Cannot Finalise HP Setup Assistant after Time Capsule Restore
Hi all,
I recently had to install a new hard drive on my iMac.
I restored my system using Time Capsule.
I had to re-install my HP software for my LaserJet all-in-one as it would no longer scan.
Un-installed the software then downloaded and re-installed the 10.6 Full Solution from HP website.
HP Setup Assistant launches, detects my printer etc.
But when it gets to the last screen where it is asking me to confirm all my settings, I click Continue and it just hangs. I have to Quit HP Setup App.
I can print fine and scan, however, I can no longer scan using the ADF. It is greyed out in the software.
My feeling is it is because I have not run the HP Setup App correctly.
My question is:
Is there any kind of hidden HP files I can delete in Finder that may be corrupting and preventing the HP Setup App from working?
Thanks.
I will try a Clean Install, this should resolve issue.

Macos not starting anymore after Time Capsule restore
Hello, I changed the hard drive of my mac book. Then I restored the system from my time capsule.
When I start my macbook it boots but the process seems to stop after a while.
I made a permissions repair but it didnot help.
Tried to boot in safe mode but did not help.
What can I do?
Thanks in advance.See #E8 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

Performance Issues after Time Capsule restore
Hi,
I had a Macbook Air 11 latest version which I just sold. Now I have a Mac Pro 13 with a normal 750GB Disk. I did a complete restore of the last Time Capsule back up from the Air to the Pro. After this was completed I installed Lion latest release over the restored installation.
Now everything is running but I still have the impression, that the pro is much slower than the Air - I guess one thing is the difference of performance between SSD and normal disks. But still the Pro has much more CPU power, right?
So my question is: is there any chance, that through the restore procedure I did, the Pro hardware could have been corrupted as the backup did not match the target machine (Air to Pro)? Is there any way to check of the hardware is working as designed? I have been reading in the communities about the AHT tool, but I can not locate it on Lion, the "D" key has no effect and I have no Leopard Disks containing AHT...
Thanks for your thoughts. There is a lot more to performance than raw processing power, and the way it manifests itself is in bottlenecks to performance.
A Mac can have too little RAM for what it is doing, or can have a slow old drive with everything on one drive.
Despite the fact that it may have twelve fast processors capable of dimming the lights in the entire Western Hemisphere, it will be slow. -
IPhoto is empty after Time Capsule restore
i recently got a new iMac and am trying to restore my iPhoto library from time capsule on an external hard drive. my previous macbook with the original library was stolen so the external drive is my only hope of recovering years of photos.
i have tried going into time machine and restoring the iPhoto library. iPhoto shows several of my albums but zero photos. i have tried looking for the masters file but it appears empty. both times, the file size is significant though nothing appears. i am not sure what else to try.I would post in the TimeMachine forum - this is really a TM issue - not an iPhoto for Mac issue
If the Masters folder is empty then the restore has not gone well

Help after Time Capsule restore
I had to do a complete restore on my MacBook Pro and everything went well except for a couple of problems. The main one is my hard drive space was down significantly. At first I was down around 55GBs, but I found the old user home fie and deleted it. That helped a lot, but I am still missing 4GBs of space and I have also found a lot duplicate files and I am afraid to delete them since I am not sure what they are. I am using DupeZap which I purchased from the App Store. Any idea where my 4GBs went, so I can delete them? Then should I worry about the duplicate files? I don't think they are responsible for the 4GB difference, they seem to be system files that are small. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used Migration Assistant. Is that not a good way to this?
Often it's not.
I could not find a better method; I could not access my old ID since I had created a new home user when I set up OSX. I hope this makes sense; but there was no way to access the other users back up.
Yes, that's one of the problems with using +Migration Assistant;+ you end up with an extra user account.
Do you now have data you need to keep in both accounts? If not, your best bet is probably to start over and do the full restore, per #14 in the FAQ. That will put everything back exactly the way it was at the time of any backup you select.
Why did you run +Migration Assistant?+ The reason might lead to a different recommendation.
Are you having any permissions problems (not being able to change files, or delete things, without entering your Admin password)?
If your only problem now is the duplicate files, however, what & where are they? Any that include "(from old Mac)" in the name are probably files copied by +Migration Assistant.+ -
Wiki error after time capsule restore
follow a disk failure, I restored the entire os (SnowLepoard Server) and applications from a timecapsule backup. All works except for the Wiki. The webserver is up and responds fine to other pages. However, clicking on the wiki hosted on the os server, I get the error
Service unavailable!
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 503
All the files for the wiki are restored and available (I can click on them through Finder and read them ok).
Any ideas why I have this problem ?

I am trying to setup my new time capsule but it is not working. after entering the airport utility and locating the TC, after I tell the program to continue, the unit just disappear from the menu and the setup menu says there is an error. I tried using the wireless connection, and also the cable, but none worked. Any idea of what could be happening?
What are you setting it up as.. join wireless network .. the very worst setup, it will disappear.. reboot the whole network in order modem. router TC.. clients and it will likely reappear.
Tell us what network setup you are using..
If you setup with cable to a computer completely isolated from the network with TC also isolated.. finish the setup of everything you want. .before update.. then plug it into the network. .then restart everything in correct order.. it will work most of the time. -
After time capsule 7.6 Firmware upgrade I can't set up Access Control / Timed Access using mac adresses.
I have a Time Capsule and an Airport express and when I change access control parameters on whatever one of those
two devices through Airport Utility its duplicating the same setup on the other device !
What a mess !
I had to choose "Not Enabled" in the Access Control stup window.
Has anyone experienced same problem ?
Jean.I did downgraded firmware to 7.5.2 ...
and the Acess Control Setting from Airport Utility is back to normal behaviour.

Can't get past setup assistant after installing leopard...
i am having trouble getting past the setup assistant after installing leopard on my other computer which is a 1.25 ghz G4 desktop. Everything seems to be going fine then the setup assistant comes up and i go through the exercise of filling it out and at the end it says click on done and then you can use the computer. unfortunately it goes right back into the setup assistant like i had never gone there before. it is in some kind of loop. would it be wise to reinstall leopard? if so, does it know that it was installed already and rewrite over the first install? or is there something else i may try. i tried resetting the PRAM and some other things recommended but nothing seems to work. any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance...mr_magicman,
I can imagine how frustrating this must be for you. It sounds like you went for the (default) Upgrade option.
Okay, how about trying this:
1. With the *OS X 10.5 Install Disk 1* still in the bay, Restart your computer. Without access to menus, you'll have to use the power switch to turn it off. +[Alternatively, if you do have access to menus, select the Restart command (in the Apple menu) — always the preferred method.]+
2. If you're using the power switch method, here, wait about 10 - 15 seconds then depress the power switch again for about 5 full seconds (or until you hear the computer come back to life). +[Alternatively, if you had selected the Restart command in Step 1, the computer will start up again on its own.]+ *Either way, as the computer starts up, press and keep pressing, the Mouse until the disk ejects.* By the way, if you're using a Mighty Mouse with a left and right option, press down on the left side only. Hopefully this will get you out of the loop caused by your Install DVD remaining in the drive.
Finally, to be fair to you, I must tell you that there's a more suitable Forum for your particular kind of problem, viz., *Installation and Setup* (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219) I recommend you check out the questions/answers in that Forum in case your question has already been asked and answered.
PS. If you do re-post your question in that Forum, don't forget to mention whether or not you internal hard disk has been backed up.
GOOD LUCK!

Migration Assistant or Time Capsule?
I have a Macbook pro w/ Mountain lion on it which I back up using time capsule. I will be buying a new iMac to replace the laptop. Should I use Migration Assistant or Time Capsule to move everything to the new iMac or both?
ThanksThe Time Capsule is a router with a hard drive inside to make Time Machine backups or store whatever you want, and Migration Assistant is an app that helps you to migrate files from another PC, Mac or a Time Machine backup. They have nothing to do.
As you are using the Time Capsule, you have a Time Machine backup, that you will use to restore the data from your MacBook Pro to the iMac. During the first startup of your iMac, it will ask you to restore a backup, so choose the option to restore a Time Machine backup and follow the steps -
Optimal Setup for New Time Capsule with Wireless AC
I'm curious to see what the hypotehtical optimal setup for my Time Capsule. I understand that wireless speeds depend on a ton of factors and that part of getting the best connection is just trying different options. I have a new Time Capsule that's connected to the following devices: iPhone 5S; new MacBook Air with wireless AC; old iMac from 2007; old AirPort Express that only supports b/g and a newish Apple TV that supports wireless N, I believe. I was connecting to the network (which was not designated with the 5ghz) and I recently chose the option to label the 5ghz. I'm using that now to stream music with the new iPhone and the Apple TV with no problems, but I have no longer have the option of using the old Airport express because it's an old one. I'm thinking of just getting a new Airport Express and leaving it at that, but wanted to know if anyone has some thoughts on this. I'm sure there's a more concise and direct way to ask this question, but my knowledge is pretty limited here. Thanks in advance.
The Time Capsule is already set up for optimal performance when you open up the box.
You can assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network and point devices that are capable to that network. This works well if the device is located close to the Time Capsule.
But, 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so once you move a room or two away, or the signal has to pass through several walls, the 2.4 GHz will be stronger.....and probably faster as well.
But...your device will try to stay locked on the 5 GHz network since you set it up that way.
This type of setup may or may not work best for you. For most users, it is simpler and more effective to use the default settings on the Time Capsule to have both bands use the same network name.
Then, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the signal with the best quality. Best quality may not be the fastest signal since there are lot of factors involved with signal quality. But, if you think about it a bit more, don't you want to have your wireless device connect to the signal with the best quality?
Some users swear by assigning a separate name to the 5 GHz band. I'm not one of them, but If it works well for them and they are happy, then there is no reason to change.
An older AirPort on your network is going to drag down the speeds. You need the new AirPort Express, or better yet an AirPort Extreme if you want to be able to extend the new 802.11ac signal. -

Hi guys,
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
hope somebody can help me with this issue with TM.
I decided to restore my entire system from a backup I got in an external hard drive ( formatted mac Os Journaled). I didnt exclude any folder from the backup.
Basically using the mac osx installation disk
Which one? If you used a Leopard Install disc, that's the problem. You need to use a +Snow Leopard+ disc to restore a +Snow Leopard+ backup. (Unfortunately, Apple doesn't exactly make that clear -- you are far from the first!)
If your system is not too large, and didn't take more than an hour or so to restore, just do it over.
If it's a lot larger, though, you can just install Snow Leopard. Your Mac should boot up normally, but don't use any apps yet. First, download and install the 10.6.5 "combo" update. Info and download available at: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324 Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards. -
How fast would Time Capsule restore 500GB over wi-fi, Thanks
How fast would Time Capsule restore 500GB over wi-fi, Thanks
Using Ethernet, you normally get around 30 GB per hour transferred, so about 16-17 hours that way.
Wireless would be about 3-5 times slower, on average, so a very rough estimate would be 50-80 hours over wireless. Much depends on your actual wireless connection. Do you know what that is? -
After Time Capsule setup ethernet connection works but not wifi
Time Capsule 2GB 5th Generation ME177LL/A model
Create a new network not matter what setting I use for wifi WPA/WPA2 or none when I go to connect it says invalid password on every device.
Everything plugged into ethernet works, bridge mode static IP and DNS setup. Firmware version 7.7.3 tried any combonation of android, iOS, Mac and Windows all same result. Any thoughts?Take to apple store for testing.. it is not a very reliable model.

Cant log in to Macbook after Time Capsule Full Restore
Hi,
I upgraded to Yosemite the other day and after doing so, I realized it locked me out of aperture, vmware fusion, and a few other programs which evidentially needed to be upgraded. I had a recent backup(pre-Yosemite) on my Time Capsule so I just chose to do a full restore from that backup. Everything went fine until it was time to log in to my profile. None of the passwords work. I even tried to reset the password with the master to no avail. It keeps popping up this error message; "You are unable to log in to the user account -insert name- at this time. Logging in to this account failed because an error occurred."
So I chatted with apple support. They came up with the solution through the recovery mode to reset the password via the command line. I went through the process and the system said it was successful. Still to no avail. Same error message.
I have a call with Apple support scheduled, but I'm impatient.
Any ideas?Does it matter that the old OS(circa 2008) is pre-maverick? The time capsule file is certainly maverick. Also, does it matter that I was running file vault on the profile previously?
The old OS won't matter in terms of disk utility.. but it might affect the result for changing the admin user password.
File Vault though is a total pain.
I actually stay well away from using file vault because there is no way you can fix it.
Mess up that password and you are dead dead dead.
I recommend you have another go restore to a USB drive.. and then see if you can access it..
If you had have asked me a few days before you installed Yosemite I would have said.. DO NOT TRUST TM.
Create a bootable clone of your computer using CCC.
TM is now so buggy and so difficult to use it cannot be relied on for more than an occasional deleted file.. it is great when it works.. but trusting your files to it as a backup .. no way.
