Cannot find BT master socket to test broadband

House is less than 18months old and had all phone sockets installed prior to moving in as first occupants. BT line connected after 2weeks. Engineer did not enter house. Now have problem with broadband and have been told I need to connect the router to the BT master socket for test purposes but cannot find one! All internal sockets are standard phone sockets.
BT line comes up from ground outside on front wall near door in a BT 'Openreach' box which is a flip-down, secured by a screw. On opening this the BTincoming  connection is sealed, then there is a plug, which if removed disconnects the internal lines. Then there is a connector to which the blue/white/orange leads coming out from through wall from inside the house (white covered cable) are connected. The other side of this wall is underneath the built-in kitchen units and has no master socket anywhere.
Have been banging my head trying to explain to ISP that I cannot connect to a master socket as cant find one. Should I have one or is the outside box all I get? If so, how do I connect the computer to the (6 pin) socket outside?

New build properties are now being fitted with a new Network Terminating Equipment box, the XNTE, instead of the previous NTE5 master socket. This is fitted outside the property and BT responsibility ends at the XNTE. This is the box you referred to with the flip-down cover. It contains all the master socket components. The socket in the XNTE is a BT test point and requires a special plug - it is for BT use only.
In order to eliminate your internal wiring you would need to connect a standard slave socket at the XNTE in place of the white covered cable. Make a note of the way the existing cable is connected. The official connections are pin 2 - Blue, 3 - Brown, 4 - green, 5 - Orange.

  • Cannot find BI master system

    Hi everyone,
we are developing bex queries in our BI (NW2004s) system. However, when we create an iview in our Enterprise portal containing such queries we always get the following error when trying to run them.
"The initial exception that caused the request to fail, was:
    Cannot find BI master system"
We have our BW system configured into EP under System Administration section.
    Every connection test is successfull.
On the other hand, if we run the queries from BW ABAP system using  the Java Preview they run ok.
So there seems to be something missing in our EP system...
Has anyone faced this before ?
    any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Ernest.

    Hi Elliot
You can edit this setting under the following path:
System Administration -> System Configuration ->
here you browse to find your BW system , double click it and there you'll be able to change the propery value at the right hand side of the screen.. (7th item)
Let me know if this worked for you also.
    Regards.

  • Using master socket to test Home Hub 2

I've been having problems with my broadband dropping out. I've tried 5 different ADSL filters so have now decided to test the hub using the master socket. I'm not wireless. My question is do I need to also connect the ethernet cable to the hub whilst testing or is it just the power and broadband cables? Thanks

Thanks for your help. I don't think the lead is going to reach my master socket from my pc so I suppose there's no other way of testing it.
Does anyone have the following problem:
When my connection drops, the only way I can keep it going is by making a phone call! I just dial 1471 and leave the line open. Not very satisfactory but at least it works lol.
I don't have any other electrical items in the room except the printer, I use a simple extension socket that seems ok and I've changed the ADSL filter - have tried 5 - and I'm now thinking of calling out an engineer but don't want to incur the £129.99 fee before I've completely eliminated internal wiring problems and thought that by doing the test it would tell me if my wiring was the problem and not something outside.

  • Continuos Ring, cannot find main socket, Leviton p...

Hi, I'm new to this country and have not been experiencing any issues with BT, but recently my cordless phone started to give out a continuos ring for no reason. I contacted BT via email and they asked me to check the BT main line socket to test my phone equipment through the 'test' socket. Quite simple to follow but simply cannot find the main socket in my flat.
Now, I discovered a classy Leviton Phone distribution system in the utility area which sort of explains that I most probably don't have a main socket inside my flat, as the mains must be down in the basement somewhere which is obviously not accessible to me. I went through the internet and found out that BT probably wont be able to help anyway, so what should I do now??? There are chances that even if I somehow (chances are bleak given the security issue) manage my way in the flat's basement, there is no gurantee that a proper BT Opensource box would be identifiable.
Alternately, I've checked every piece of equipement running through the lines and nothing seems to be a problem so far....what should I do? Obvoiusl;y I want to avoid (if psbl) to fish out pounds for no fault of mine!
PS: The flat is rented, do you think my landlord might take ownership of this issue per chance?

    Hi Khannas13,
Welcome to the forum. I can test your line for you if you like. Please could you email me your BT account details and a link to this thread? My email address can be found by clicking on my profile.

  • Master socket broken?

    Hi guys,
had the second line in my house activated today.
Checked the master socket and test socket as when I plug a phone in, I don't seem to be getting anything. Phone doesn't work and neither does my new broadband
Here are some pics of what it looks like:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/30/pz6h.jpg/
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/11/8iy3.jpg/
Is this right? The black and green wires aren't even connected to anything! I know this line used to work though, and im pretty sure the line hasn't been touched.
Excuse the wall, we're having it replastered lol.

Right okay, BT said that the line had been reconnected.
    I guess not!

  • External Master Socket

    Evening all,
Read some really useful posts on here and wanted to get some feedback from some guru's.
I have recently bought a new property and I am looking to setup broadband on a fibre level, sadly I have found that I couldn't find a master socket (which was weird) I searched only to find one outside my front door! (that I don't use ever) With my scope for Fibre in the ether I would like to ask would it be beneficial of me to get a BT engineer to come round and move the master socket from external to internal (my PC is effectively directly above where the socket is outside so couldn't see any troubles there)
    What are your thoughts??
Thanks in advance for the feedback...

Hey, As far as i know all sockets are wired to the external, see pic attached. I know its not going to be free by any stretch of the imagination what i am asking is if i catagorically NEED and internal for fibre i may as well do it. Plus this will also give me better control for any config i am required to do.
If i do decide to do it what would the implications be for the rest of the ports in the house?

  • Identifying Master Socket trouble

Hey I'm currently having trouble with my BT line with it being extremely noise and crackly I'm try to identify my master socket so I can test to see if its my equipment/wiring or BT's problem (and I cant get an engineer out until Monday) but I can not seem to find a master socket that they describe I can only find 3 things. 2 normal sockets one in the kitchen and another in my lounge none have the BT logo as described and the one from the lounge is definitely fed from the one in the kitchen the only other thing I can find is a very small box by my bathroom window where I can see that the wire from the telegraph pole enters my house. I've opened this up but all that is in it is some wires that just seem to be terminated or go into a little connector there is no plug to test from and it doesn't match any form of master socket I've seen on the troubleshooting? I've scoured the rest of the house and outside for another socket but cant find anything do I have an unusual type of master socket? Or any suggestions to where it might be? I could link pictures of the box I'm talking about if need be.
    Regards Craig

Sounds like old instalation the master sockets of differing design is the first socket the external wires connect to within the house
The external box is a BT junction box  it should only be opened by bt
BT will no doubt charge you for fitting a new socket
If any post helps tick the star box on the left
Just cause Im paranoid dont mean they are not out to get me

  • Have to use TEST socket for fast broadband but ext...

Hi, this is my first post, would be very grateful for any help as I am getting nowhere fast with BT.
Have had broadband here for several years without too much problem until recent months when the speed seemed to be getting slower and slower. I contacted BT on several occasions about this, and tested the equipment, with the upshot that connection is definitely faster IF the phone etc is plugged into the TEST SOCKET. Hurray for that - BUT it means that my (only) extension line upstairs in my house doesn't work (I've tried plugging two different corded phones in, with filters, and there is no dialling tone).
This is really inconvenient and I have contacted BT yet again this morning to be told the same thing, ie test the equipment and it is probably an internal wiring problem. What they don't seem to take on board is that the extension line was fine for ages until I started using the test socket.
    Help someone please! Thank you.

    Hi ConfusedofSurrey and welcome
Is the extension lead exposed or has it been run under floorboards?
Phone wiring has a Bellwire. This makes the old style phones ring. Modern day phones don't need this wire and it WILL slow your connection down. Have a look at http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/bellwirenutshell.html
Also any extensions WON'T work if you've removed the face plate from the master socket to use the test point as it isolates any other extension wiring.
    Hope this helps.

  • Broadband speed / lack of master socket

My broadband speed according to all the speed tests is around 0.5Mb/s - sad, I know.   One of the things I wanted to try to bump it up a bit was to plug the router into the master socket.  It looks like we don't have one but one of those old junction box things above the front door.  Has anyone had any luck trying to persuade BT to replace a junction box with a normal master socket?  All advice welcome.

That thing above your door will just be a block terminal, they have them in place because the external cable can not extend inside your premises for more than two metres. This is because the plastic sheathing on it releases chemicals when burns, but to be honest if your house is on fire there are probably 101 other plastic household items that will also release harmful fumes on top of the already harmful fumes from the fire itself.
By the sounds of you will just have a LJU for your NTP, aka master socket. Will probably have the old T logo on it?
Anyway, as mentioned above you can't just ask they come and replace it. Openreach operate a 'if it ain't broke don't fix it policy' so if you called an engineer out they will charge you £130 for a wasted visit as it will have been right when tested. Depending on the engineer, he may replace it while on site but chances are he might not as it will be an easy close for him and he can get to his next job.

  • The system cannot find the file specified.Windows sockets error code:2.

    Hi All,
      I am on MDM 5.5 SP6.
I am getting the following error message when trying to logging in to the DM.
The system cannot find the file specified.Windows sockets error code:2.This application will now exit.
    Runtime Error :
    Program C :\Program Files\SAP MDM 5.5\Data Manager\Datamanager.exe
    R6025.
    -Pure virtual function call.
And in console also the MDM server is stopped after getting the above error message.
Can anybody tell me what could be the problem?
    Thanks & Regards
    Sireesha.

    Hi Sireesha,
According to me, there can be 3 problems,
    1. Kindly check whether the MDM server is stopped. If it is, then restart the MDM Server and Load the repository with Update indices.
    2. If this error is coming with every repository, the problem will be either in the Version mismatch of the Server and the GUI's you are using. Kindly ensure that the versions for the MDM server and the MDM Gui's Match.
    3. If only Data manager Client is giving the problem, then you can un-install and install the DM GUI again.
Along with this, please refer to the link below :
[[The system cannot find the file specified.Windows sockets error code:2.;]
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Cannot find photos in iPhoto master folder?

    Hi there
When I first bought my Mac I imported a photo library from an external hard drive into iphoto. I cannot find the files in the master folder?
I can see and open all the photos in iphoto.
There are files in there for all the most recent imports to iphoto but not the original photo library import from when I was setting up my new mac.
Would really appreciate any assistance with this - cheers

Please explain (remember we only know what you tell us
I cannot find the files in the master folder?
I can see and open all the photos in iphoto.
This is not clear at all?
First off you should never be going into the Masters folder - you never need to and doing so is dangerous
see this user tip for details on how to access your photos if that is your question

  • I had to do a master restore on my computer but I cannot find any bookmarks. Are they lost forever?

I had to do a master restore on my computer (because of a problem with Firefox 4). After the restore I downloaded Firefox and the Firefox Sync App again. I thought I would find my bookmarks. However, I cannot find any of the bookmarks I had, nor were the tabs restored. I also downloaded the app Foxfire app to my iPhone (same day). Yet after I signed in, I was able to see the tabs I had before the master restore, but again - none of the bookmarks. I don't know how (if) I can recover them... Please Help?!

If the photos were not backed up with a recent backup, there is NO way to retrieve them.

I have a custom main function for my application module. Launching the tester is fine

    Thank you,

Completely new workspace doesn't fix the problem.
If I move the common folder to where jdev is looking it runs fine (I get a runtime error, but it runs none-the-less).

  • Cannot find Master Data folder in the SAP Netweaver

    Hello,
I need to create Open Catalog Interface (OCI) punch out system for our web shop. In order to test it I need SRM server that can call our web shop. I have downloaded this SRM software and installed it in my local computer:
    ABAP_Trial_7_02_SP11_Win_64_bit_Version_with_Gateway_2_0_SP04
But I cannot see the Master Data folder inside the SAP Easy Access. Does that mean SAP SRM server has not been installed on my computer? If yes, how can I install it? Can i have it for free or I should pay for it?
    Best regards,
    Kevin

I'm having the same problem. As far as I know the only version of ODAC that I have installed is 11.2.0.3. What version did you ultimately install?
    What I have:
    - Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate
    - .Net framework 4
    - Entity Framework 4
    - 64 Bit ODAC 11.2.0.3
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
