Cannot find the proxy server even after following the advice in the help section
I successfully downloaded the latest version but I cannot connect to the internet. I get a "cannot find the proxy server" prompt. I have followed the advice in the help section but nothing seems to work.
You can check20the connection settings here:
*Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection > Settings
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy" if the default "Use the system proxy settings" setting doesn't work.

I changed out my wireless router, from a Linksys to a Netgear. Everything seemed to work fine, but shortly afterward Firefox could not be used to find any websites, and gave me the message above. The same happened with Internet Explorer, but a tech representative for my ISP directed me to the page where "proxy server" was incorrectly checked and it fixed the problem. I don't know where to go in Firefox to find the same or a similar page. My laptop continued to work fine for some time after, but eventually developed the same problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, with no luck, and all desktop shortcuts based on Firefox are inoperative. I just keep getting the message that the proxy server is rejecting connections. Since I did not select a proxy server, I don't know how to deselect it.
No idea what "tried everything" means.
Here is how you troubleshoot a password problem.
Go to your email providers web mail page and verify that you have a working username and password by logging into your account there. If you cannot log in there, look for the link to reset your password. Your email password is administered with your email provider.
Once you have a working password you need to remove any stored passwords in Thunderbird and replace with the new, working password.
From the menu bar select''' Tools-Options-Security-Passwords-Stored Passwords'''
Remove the passwords for the problem account. Close Thunderbird and restart it. You will be asked for a password. Enter the new password.
No menu bar with Tools? Press the '''alt '''key.
FYI: Thunderbird settings are stored in a different file from the program. Removing the program and reinstalling just keeps you busy for a little while and rarely fixes anything. As you have seen the old settings are picked up when Thunderbird is reinstalled. -

System Update -- Cannot connect to proxy server - SOLVED
I'm on a ThinkPad T61 running Windows Vista. When I try to download from System Update, I always get the error message "Cannot connect to proxy server."
I have tried connecting to the Internet directly via Ethernet rather than through a wireless router--it doesn't make any difference.
I have also uninstalled System Update and then installed the version I downloaded from lenovo.com--same result.
System Update is an exception in Windows Firewall, and I have even tried running System Update with Firewall disabled--ditto.
Can someone please help me?

Solved!
Go to Solution.I have discovered one other potential cause of this behaviour.
If your computer is attached to a Domain, ensure you are connected to the Domain using a profile that has administrator rights when attempting these upgrades.
I was using a local profile with administrative rights, on a network connection that was outside of the corporate LAN, and I was getting the "Cannot connect to proxy server" error.
When I connected to our Corporate LAN and logged on to the machine with an administrative profile, the Proxy Server error went away, and I was then able to connect and download my required updates.
Just an FYI if you are doing this inside a large, firewalled LAN running from Active Directory. -
Can't access the web on lap. It's networked form main computer. The problem started just after I downloaded/updated to Firefox 3.6.6. That may be a coincidence. I get "The proxy server is refusing connections". Restarts don't help. My main computer is fine. I didn't update it.
== This happened ==
Just once or twice
== just after an update to 3.6.6Firefox 3.6.6 made a change in prefs to use system proxy settings.
Check your proxy / network setting in Windows and change it to No Proxy, if you don't use a proxy.

Accessing Distributed Queue In a Cluster via the Proxy Server
I am running WL 8.1 SP2. I have a configuration where I have 3 servers (on two
different machines) running in a cluster. I have a separate server on a 3rd machine
running the cluster proxy server for a single point of access to the cluster.
I have configured a distributed queue and a distributed topic, each targeted
to all servers in the cluster.
Now I have a JMS client which is a separate java application that is trying to
connect to the distributed queue and topic in the cluster. If the client connects
directly to one of the cluster machines, it is able to successfully interact with
the JMS queue and topic. But if it attempts to connect via the proxy server it
gets an error saying the queue and topic does not exist.
So what am I missing? Do I need to configure a separate JMS server on the proxy
server and add that as part of the distributed queue & topic (this didn't seem
to allow me to add anything outside of the cluster). Is there any special configuration
in the proxy to pass through JMS requests? I'm currently using a WL logic server
as my front-end proxy server but does anything change if I want to use Apache
with the WL Proxy plug-in??

Yup... That makes sense...

One option I have used frequenly is specifying java.naming.provider.url as
cluster address (e.g. t3://server1:7001,server2:7001
You may also want to look into tunnelling...

When I relaunch firefox 8 the proxy server settings reset back to Manual even after I change to autodetect
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

My web proider is Verizon Fios. I've contacted Verizon 4 times about this. I was instructed to delete Firefox and then download again. It didn't help. I'm able to get to your main window. Then, when I try to go to any website, the following window comes up: "The proxy server is refusing connections. Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections. It tells me to "Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct." I tried that w/ my Verizon support person but how is one to know what "settings" are "correct"? Finally the window instructs: "Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working." Who would my "network administrator" be? It wasn't Verizon as they told me they don't support Mozilla.

When I click onto the "Read Full Article..." tab I go to the Mozilla Firefox page which says there is a problem loading page - Mozilla Firefox, and then get the "The proxy server is refusing connections" and the o2 Broadband assistant then kicks in and starts trying to find the connections even though o2 broadband is connected.
I have tried re-installing Firefox but this does not improve the situation which is frustrating as I have to send everything to my work account so that I can read any further information. You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection<br />

Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Could it be this:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
