Cannot get 5.1 sound using Audigy 2, SPDIF output, coaxial cable, Digital/DTS recei

I'm having trouble getting my receiver to play 5. sourround signals from my Audigy 2. The receiver has all the required decoding options (DTS, Dolby Digital, etc.), I have a coaxial digital connection from the Audigy to the receiver, I've selected "Digital Output only" and set the Audigy to bypass the ac3 decoder (SPDIF output). However, the receiver only ever detects the front left and right channels. I've tried lots of tweaking (speakers settings, decoder settings), but still cannot get a multi-speaker sound.
If I'm using the Audigy's built-in ProLogic system to simulate 5. output from standard stereo sources (wav, mp3, etc.), should this not result in a 5. signal being transmitted to the receiver over the coaxial digital cable? Still, no luck when I try this.
I've read that it's not possible for the Audigy to transmit 5. signals over the digital output -- it can only decode them and pipe them to the analog 6-speaker outputs. Is this true?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Patrick

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing such pain with this card.
After 3 connectors, I have my SPDIF of my Audigy 2 ZS connected to my Recei'ver and passing sound. However, it is NOT passing the 5. AC3/DTS stream. Playing a movie through Media Center 2005, if Dolby Digital 5. is selected, I hear the movie, but the Recei'ver does not indicate it is in Dolby Digital (like when I play it through my standalone DVD Player). When selecting DTS in the Audio Options of the DVD Menu, I hear no sound at all.
I have a minijack to RCA Stereo connector with a Digial Coax cable going from the White connector to my Recei'ver Digital Coax Input.
I have set the Device Decoding Options for SPDIF Passthrough.
What am I missing? This is going on a week now to get something going that worked right out of the box with a $40 DVD Player. And the $40 DVD Player sounds better than this $00 sound card....because it passes the AC3 stream flawlessly.

  • X-Fi: cannot get multi-channel sound or SPDIF passthrough

I've owned an X-Fi XtremeMusic since it first came out, and have been running it with a MCE2005 system. I've had it hooked up to a home theater receiver via SPDIF and 5. analog, but have only had stereo speakers until today. So, right now I'm trying to get multi-channel sound to work. I'm using the latest drivers (have also tried the original drivers) and have all Microsoft patches applied.
First, I cannot seem to get it out of stereo mode. Using the analog outputs to the 5. analog input on my receiver and setting the X-Fi to 5. speakers refuses to produce sound from anything except front left/right. I've used the Speaker Connection Wizard, the THX Console, the Speaker & Headphone console... and no matter what speaker icon I click on the sound comes out of the front left or right as if it is downmixing. I've also tried 4.0, 6. and 7. modes - no improvement. Also, multi-channel sound does not work in MCE setup, games, etc.
Quite by accident I discovered that if I enable CMSS I can get *some* sort of sound from the rear speakers, but only in the sense of an effect. Also, with CMSS enabled, when testing the front center I get the word "front" out of the left/right speakers which then fades out before "center". If I test it again I get nothing (except a slight effect from the rear).
Finally, I cannot get the SPDIF passthrough to work (it DOES work just fine passing out stereo 48khz sound). I've enabled SPDIF on the flexi-jack, I've set Dolby Digital and DTS to "external decoder required", and NONE of my applications present me with an option to use the SPDIF. This includes MCE, VLC and the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. Basically it seems that they can't see that there is a SPDIF on the system to use.
Anyone else experienced this? I've spent 5 hours testing everything I can think of and trying different combinations of settings and I am completely at a loss!

Well, I guess I'll answer my own problem in the hopes that it might help someone else.
It seems that hour 8 of frustrated troubleshooting turned up the cure: all of this boils down to Logitech's stupid Quickcam Fusion drivers. With Logitech's "AEC" echo cancellation mode enabled for the built-in microphone, their drivers automatically turn audio acceleration down to second from the bottom. This results in the X-Fi performing nearly no hardware processing (later testing with DXDiag also said I had no hardware buffer). This results in no multi-channel audio, and no SPDIF passthrough.
There are a couple of solutions...
) Disable "AEC" mode from the Logitech Quickcam control panel applet's Audio tab (and reboot). This worked for me.
    2) If this doesn't work, go into the Device Manager and disable the Quickcam's microphone (and reboot). This worked for me, but then I tried # which also worked and still let me use the microphone.
    3) Logitech's site (which mentions this problem/solution but only in the context of it causing BSOD crashes, not with it messing up multi-channel sound cards) mentions renaming one of their Audio directories to disable the microphone, although I don't see why this would be better than #2 (see http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=4066 for more).
    4) Unplug the camera.
So, I'm back in business - or rather, I'm only NOW in business!
Interesting that the Creative diagnostics utility turned up anything amiss. It claimed that everything was hunky dory, when the card was obviously in a mode where it could not possibly work correctly.

  • Cannot get or send mail using Apple Mail on iPhone and iPad

Everyone in my household cannot get or send mail on their Apple Mail for iPad and iPhone. We all get the same message: "The user name or password for [account] is incorrect." This just started happening yesterday afternoon. No problems before that. I called my hosting company and Apple, and both blamed the other. My Apple system is always updated, so I have the latest version of Maverick. Had no problems with it up until now.
However, I awoke this morning to find downloaded emails in the same program, but when I go to "get mail," it says the same thing, and still won't allow me to send or receive.
Here's the kicker. I also use Gmail with the exact same accounts (yes, I need both since Apple Mail does things that Gmail doesn't, and vice versa). No problem! I get all my emails and can send with no problem. So, my hosting company claims it can't be them (makes sense). It only happens using Apple Mail, and I have several email addresses. None of them work (other than the strange phenomena of suddenly getting some of them downloaded for no apparent reason).
What do I do from here? I've changed passwords, deleted and tried to set up my emails, only to get the message that they probably will not work. And they don't. I have shut down and restarted my iPad and iPhone, to no avail.
Thank god for my Gmail account, or my business would be closed.
Again, this is happening on four devices in my home: 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

I have a comcast account I use on my phone and use it for receiving and sending mail. When you look at the account in settings, you need to check each of these
    incoming mail server: mail.comcast.net
username: the part of your email address before the @
    password: your password
    outgoing mail server: smtp.comcast.net
    Under Advanced
    Use SSL: On
    Authentication: Password
    Server Port: 995
If you cannot make it work from changing settings in the account, delete the account and start over. Use the "Other" setting when starting the account. It is a POP3 account and make the entries I gave you. Once you do that, it should check the entries and validate the account. You shouldn't have any trouble from there. Those settings will work from either the iPhone on cell, or wireless. Mine will even work when I'm at home on my wireless there, which is on the Comcast network.
    Hope that helps you.

I also have Norton 360 and have unstalled and disabled it but still cannot get home sharing to operate so that i can use the remote APP on my ipad to control music through the house. does anyone have a solution or experienced similar issue?

    Hi Pat,
Yes I marked the question as Assumed Answered. I needed to move on. I have never taken part in a forum and couldn’t wait any longer for any input so not wanting anyone to waste the time answering me, I marked the question as assumed answered. I guess this was the wrong thing to do and I apologize to the forum.
I did go another route and loaded and enlarged the photo in Photoshop Elements, Then cropped the photo to the area I needed to reprint. I probably should have done this in the first place!
Again, my apology to the forum for my lack of patience in waiting for a reply.

  • Anyone getting message "cannot get mail" on iphone using yahoo?

Couple of days back when I tried to log into my yahoo.com mail account, I received a full screen message that yahoo.com thought my password was compromised and requested I supply a new one.  I didn't look at the url to see if it was from yahoo.com or trustworthy (darn it!).  I decided not to change my password and was allowed to go on to yahoo.com mail.  Then later when I tried to check my yahoo.com email from my iphone4, I got this message that "cannot get mail" and my password must be incorrect.  I went back to the yahoo.com mail on my Macbook and, after getting the same warning message as before, I did enter a new password.  Then tried to get into yahoo email on the iphone4 and succeeded.  The next day, I tried to get into yahoo email from the iphone4 and I got the darn "cannot get mail" message on the iphone4.  I've tried deleting the yahoo mail account on the iphone4 and reinstalling it, but no luck.  Still get same message!  Anyone know what to do?

    Thanks
So how can I fix my iPhone Yahoo email?

    Hi
I have PCMCIA Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook audio card with my Thinkpad laptop.
I have bought Onkyo HT- S580 Hometheater system. I was hoping to connect the Line out, Line out2, Line out3 jacks to the receiver's Front, Surround(rear) and Center in jacks.
The color on the Onkyo Recei'ver end are Center - Green , Surround(rear) - Blue , Front - White
The color on the Creative Card end are Center- Orange , rear - Black , Front - Green
There is color difference between these two ends . Is it advisable to connect these two jacks ?
Please recommend the suitable cable type and name for this connection
    Thanks

    Hi
Colours may vary --> just connect by the instructions from both manuals.
    There are good explanations for
    - Stereo and 4-Pole Jack Diagrams
    - Connecting a multichannel home theater receiver
    - cabletypes needed on connections
    on User's Guide.
NOTE: This User's Guide can be found on your driver CD too.
Also, here is the Onkyo HT-S580 manual.

  • Audigy 2 SPDIF output - again, asking for any help.

Some time ago I asked question about my Audigy 2:
[size="">Hi, I am using Audigy 2 soundcard connected to Altec Lansing ADA885 speakers. These speakers have built-in Dolby Digital Decoder, and of course SPDIF input for this. Additionally, they have inputs for analog front and rear speakers signal. They can be switched to different operation modes : Dolby Digital decoding, Dolby ProLogic decoding, stereo, and quad modes. I have connected them to my Audigy 2 using analog connections, and also digital output. The problem is, that they process both kind of inputs (analog and digital) all the time in most modes simultaneously. For example, when I set them to "quad" mode (for gaming) they process analog signal that Audigy deli'vers them, but also they attempt to decode the signal from digital input. This produces some kind of phase distortions (basses dissappear and the sound becomes slightly muffled). Possible solutions could be : - disable digital decoding in speakers when using analog output from Audigy - this can't be done, these speakers' decoder is not configurable, - disconnect digital cable when using analog output from Audigy - obvious solution, however not very comfortable - disable "ON-DEMAND" spdif output on Audigy card and enable it when necessary. This would be most satisfying option for me. But.... is it possible at all ? Just something similar to the "Digital output only" setting in soundcard panel, but in my case i'd like to have an option of "Analog outputs only". Thanks in advance for any help <img title="Smiley Happy" alt="" src="http://forums.creative.com/i/smilies/6x6_smiley-happy.gif"> Greetings, Martin
    No-one answered me, unfortunately
Yesterday I moved to Vista Ultimate and newest set of Creative Drivers.
To my surprise, there is an option of SPDIF output volume and mute in system mixer. However, it also doesn't work.
Can anyone confirm, if I can mute digital output whenever I want ?
    Best regards,
    Martin

  • Cannot get 6.1 Sound working with my Audigy 2 ZS Plati

Currently the Onkyo HT-S770 system I have is set up properly and works fine with my Xbox. However, when playing music from my computer it only comes out as 2.. When I run all the speaker tests from the THX setup console, I can only hear noise from the front left and right speakers. They are set up for 96 khz Digital Output(using digital optical from the front panel) and are set to 6.. I have also checked the CMSS3D box in the EAX console.
Any help is greatly appreciated.Message Edited by sjabarri on 0-0-2005 06:33 PM

  • No Sound Using Audigy 2 With Vi

Hi all.. I know there's probably tons of these dumb questions about cards not working with vista but I'm stuck. I've searched the forums and haven't found anything obvious that fixes the problem. Anyways, I just upgraded my XP machine to Vista and everything works fine but the sound. I've made sure I have the 32-bit vista drivers and everything looks alright in the device manager, but I just don't get any sound. I just have a two speaker setup, so they're attached to the black jack of the card and I just get this kind of dull low hum. When I plug into the digital jack, I get lots of white noise but if I turn the speakers up all the way I can barely make out proper audio, though it is distorted. If anyone else has had this problem or has any ideas, they'd be welcome. The computer is a Dell Dimension 8300... I'm not sure what the motherboard is. Thanks!

You can download the iso for the Creative installation cd for the Audigy 2 ZS from here. Use Winrar to extract it and then burn it to a CD. Then use it to install the Creative software. Installing the Creative software might fix the problem. If not, there is a diagnostic utility on there. Run that and see what it says.

  • I cannot get the file download using 1.6

    Hi,
I am using HTMLDB v1.6 and I have followed the example to upload and download files. I was able to get the file upload working but I am getting the page cannot be found error message. I am using a package to implement the page download can I do that? The URL I entered when I set the ID files is
    #OWNER#.JobManagement.Download_Submitted_File?p_file=#ID#.
The URL Generated when I click on the download link is:
    http://aseera:7777/pls/htmldb/BFAYEZ.JobManagement.Download_Submitted_File?p_file=4.
Anyone has any idea why the download is not working?
    Thanks,
    Bashar

    Sergio,
I looked at the log files and I was able to figure out what was wrong. I changed my parameter name to p_job_id for the stored procedure but I used the p_file parameter name from the example. I also switched to use the package instead of the stored procedure and that worked too. The only thing I need to figure out is why the downloaded file name is packagename.ext for the file name.
    Thanks,
    Bashar
