Cannot get ATV to go beyond initial screen

I have an ATV 2nd generation.  I have been using ATV with no issues other than the typical poor internet connection that causes me to restart or reboot ATV.  I was having problems using ATV, so I performed the latest system update.  However, after performed the update, I am now no longer able to get ATV to go beyond the initial screen displaying the Home Sharing and General icons.  I have successfully connected to the wireless network, which is the same network I am currently using with my laptop and other wireless devices.  I have made several attempts to reboot the router, modem and ATV, but every time I am stuck at the same initial screen after connecting to the network.
1. Is the ATV only showing this screen because because it is not recognizing the internet signal?
2. Is there any solution or recommendation that will allow the ATV to connect to my wireless network?
BTW.  My Roku box is connected to the same wireless network and is working just fine!!! 
Someone please tell me what I need to do to see all options available with ATV after performing the last system update to 5.0.2!!

Try Safari from another user account. Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If Safari operates without problem in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.
Post back with results.

    I have had your exact problem with my old 3GS, now I cannot even get it to turn on, I still see that it is supposed to be charging though, but it never charges any so it seems.
    I replaced the Lower Dock Connector Assembly back when it still charged while hooked to my PC, and it found it made no real difference.

    Press your home button, then scroll the home screen all the way over to the right. I found all my purchased apps were moved to a different home screen. Might be a similar issue.. let us know what you found out!!

    Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPad.  I recommend following steps in the tutorial below to address an issue like this.  I think the step to reset your iPad may be particularly useful in this scenario:
    To reset iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

    can't get rid of podcast capture screen?

    When I open the download with the "Get Info"..it is described as a Podcast Capture Document...which is NOT how it was downloaded. It was downloaded as a PDF file. When I try to open the download in the "Open With" option I can not use any application except i photo, mail, textedit, i tunes and utilities...none of these options will open the download...which as I said was a PDF file when I originally downloaded it (it was a magazine). It appears that the download has been converted into a Podcast Capture Document....and I want that to stop..
    Any ideas how to keep this happening to future downloads??? If I can figure out how to stop this conversion (from PDF to Podcast) I'll be happy, because I can just down load the magazine again.

  • I had my IPod rebooted at a store.  My 9yr old put a password on it and had to set it back to factory settings.  Now can't get it to open beyond the screen with the white apple.  I've tried to sync with Itunes, the it won't recognize the device.  HELP!

    Apple store reset my Ipod to factory setting, now can get Itunes to recognize the device.  The I Pod won't turn on past the first screen with the pic of the apple on it.

    Try the following:
    - A reset and then connect to your computer and try to restore.
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - See if placing the iPod in Recovery Mode will allow a restore.
    - The see if DFU mode will allow a restore.

    - If you can't turn the iPod full off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for at least a hour try the above again
    - If still not successful time for an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
    Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
    Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • I have reinstalled 4 times and I still cannot get firefox to open in a screen I can see; it is transparent and I can see my background screen though hazy.

    I have gone into every help thing I could find and tried everything I could but nothing changes. I hate chrome and IE but I am going to have to switch to them if I can't get it to work. One person who seemed to have a similar problem said something about reset but I can't find any place where I can reset firefox.

  • Somehow I cannot get the import tab on my screen! I seem to have moved the screen and cannot find a way of getting to the import button!

    I have somehow moved the workspace on the import screen of Aperture
    I am now not able to see the import button and also the full areas to fill in for keyworks etc
    I have looked for a place to increase the screen but am having no sucess!
    Help!!

    Try - from Aperture's main menu bar -
    View > Inspector (or Browser) > Swap Position.
    Does that bring the "import Settings" panel back to its customary position?

  • After updating iPhone 4 to 7.0.6, apps say "open" and work, but I CANNOT get them back on the home screen as icons.

    I can only downloaded apps that I deleted before the update, not the ones that were already there. This is driving me nuts and I can't find the solution ANYWHERE.

    again and again
    itunes keeps wittling on about "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. You do not have permission."

  • Just installed OS 8.3, it opened and locked into iTunes connection logo as opening screen.  I cannot get to any other screen.  Hard close down has not solved it and I cannot get to usual homescreen to access the reset options. Ideas?

    Earlier today my iPad which was using OS 8.2) kept shutting down every few minutes. I thought it might be some new incompatibility connected with the recent release of OS 8.3,.  So, I updated to OS 8.3.  It took many attempts and a very long time - over an hour - because the iPad kept shutting down mid-process.  Supposedly 8.3 is now installed, but all I get is the Apple logo followed by a screen showing a connection, cursor arrow pointing up-screen to a box reading "iTunes".  I cannot get out of that screen to any other screen and can only close by hard shut down, fully powering off (home button + power button). When I restart the device it shows first the Apple logo for a few seconds, then the iTunes connection logo.  Nothing else. This has been going on for about three hours now.  I am not an iTunes user so I am not sure what to think or what to expect..  Is it maybe something to do with iTunes being updated in the background?  3 hours seems a long time for an update whatever it is. Is anyone else encountering this problem?  Does anyone have any suggestions, bearing in mind that I cannot get to the usual opening home screen, so can't get to settings or anything to do a reset. I hope someone can help me with this problem.  Many thanks, Glenys2

    If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
    If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
    At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
    If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

    I don't use netflix yet on mine but the slow startup I might be able to help. I just restarted mine and in maybe 5 seconds is restarted.
    If you have a lot of programs running in the background that may be causing the slow start or shutdown. To close those running programs, 4 finger upto get to the running programs and to close them, tap one and hold for a second and flip upwards,, it will go off the top of the screen, closing it. Do this with all that you want closed, there will only be the main screen you can't close that will be left.
    I also shut off location services, Bluetooth and under safari there a use data option which for some reason turned on but I could have clicked yes somewhere and those got turned on, but I turned them off since I don't need them on.
    Then try a restart.
