Cannot get exchange mail account to work

I am a very persistent person. I don't give up easily. But I just can't get my exchange account to work on iphone. After trying way too many times, I've tried to get it set it up on the Apple Mail program so that I can then sync the mail account to the iphone through itunes. I've only been able to get the incoming mail working on Mail. I've tried so many different permutations and combinations, but I cannot get the outgoing mail to work.
I know that imap is set up. And I can access my mail account through Entourage... perfectly.
Why can't I get it to work on Mail???? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated? Any settings to check on the exchange server so that I can get it to set up properly. Please. I am about at my wit's end. And I won't give up!!!!

    Ok, I briefly saw a post following mine saying that my assertion was hilarious, and if I felt that OSX 10.5 were such a lemon I should call the powers that be and lambaste them. For those who say you cannot send from a different server while showing the initial email address, e.g. [email protected] sending...then failing, then being asked if I would like to send from smtp.mac.com: [email protected], I would ask you to look at the general tab on email preferences which offers a pull down with the heading "If outgoing server is unavailable: 2 choices; Show a List of Alternate Servers or Automatically try sending later. I have done this, and the maio has ahown up on my other computer under the original address I sent from. I am sorry if I am a buffoon for noting this, but it has happened in testing 5 times today.
    I dont know what happened to the post I referred to at the beginning, it was there, then when I hit reply it disappeared, perhaps it will reappear...as the Police would put it, its a Ghost in the Machine.
    No offense to anyone, but I have been an Apple user since our high school got 2 Apple II's in 1981-82, so Im not a Mac vs PC guy bandwagon jumper. Prior to my disability I had been a Graphic Designer for over 20 years, and I was certified prior to OSX. I have a total of 5 macs from and 840 AV, an 8500, an Aqua (I guess) G3, an old Graphite G4 500mhz as armed to the teeth as can be, and of course my 1.66 duo Mini, heck I have an Ipod Nano....I have my Apple chops, I was just hoping there had been a similar experience to bounce the question off of (not wishing mail probs for anyone) before calling My Apple.

    Hi Cantonvase.
    I am going to asume that you have a MBP 13" Mid 2012 as you have in your profile.
    First check if you computer is updateing the spotlight.  Second. Make sure the Icloud acount is activated. (using your apple id and password). Once that is working, and all of these are made, repair permitions and wait be sure all programs are close. Reset the computer.
    Once that is done. Go to system preferences, Select Security and Privacy. Then select privacy and see if maps is seleccted in location services. In order to change that unlock the lock and add the password fom you computer.
    If that is check, we can see what we can do next.  Also make sure that diagnostic & usage is selected, so all these info be send to apple for making these better. 
    One step at a time. 
    I work 2 instalacion. One clean install and 1 upgrade. The clean isntall has being perfect so far. I only find 2 errors so far and i am working on those right now.

    I am trying to get my mail to work on my phone! I have had my iphone since October and am finally frustrated enough that i am asking for help since i can not figure it out myself! It says that the connection to the server has failed. Any ideas as to what i should do?

    What doesn't work? If you're trying to use the cwmx.com for the smtp server it will only work while on the at&t edge network, no ssl. If you try to use cwmx.com smtp server while on wifi it will not work. Your isp's smtp server should work on wifi and the edge smtp server will work on edge only. If you have an isp that only allows their smtp server on their network then you end up in ther situation I am in. I can only send email on the iphone when on edge since I use their smtp server, if I'm on wifi I turn wifi off for a moment, then send. Try it again, it should work.

    Mail and Exchange can be a bit iffy, but this is usually a problem with the Exchange server. Mail on the Mac uses a different method of communicating with the Exchange server (Exchange Web Services) than do iOS devices (which use ActiveSync), so your Exchange server may be having problems with EWS. I'd suggest you first discuss this with the support resources for your email provider before you spend a lot of time spinning your wheels trying to sort things out on your end.
    As a quick test, you can try this Microsoft tool:

    and see what it reports re. EWS connectivity to your server.

    Does gMail's WebMail work with the same login & password?
    Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
    1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
    2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:

    I have the same or a similar problem - after my update to the firmware on friday, i have intermittent ability to download email.
    i have 4 accounts on my phone - a mobile me account, 2 accounts through Cox servers, and my exchange account. I was able to download from all accounts just once after updating the firmware 3 days ago.
    The Cox accounts are the only ones that work - and only sometimes. outbound emails become phantom emails and go nowhere.
    I lost the domain information in my exchange account. when i go in to update it, it freezes and won't save the new domain or let me leave the settings screen unless I hit the home or sleep/wake buttons.
    i tried deleting the exchange account to recreate it, but it freezes on that.
    I lost my calendar entirely.
    i had to resync my contacts.
    this is worse (much worse) than before the firmware fixes.

    I understand that you are unable to receive mail on your iPad.  Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue with your AOL account.  I would also recommend checking with your email provider for security procedures such as two-step verification as this could cause this issue.

    Have latest version of iTunes installed and running. Also make sure you have internet access working and can access Apple websites. Also, make sure you don't have any entries in your hosts file referring to gs.apple.com....If your not sure about how to do that, go ahead and do the rest first. You can come back to that later.....Plug in phone. Put phone in DFU mode.(google put iphone in DFU mode for instructions) Then restore the phone in iTunes by highliting your device in the left column and click on the Restore button. The latest iOS version is 4.3.3. That's what iTunes will restore it to. When it's done restoring, iTunes will ask if you want to restore from a backup or setup as a new phone. I would use the Setup as a New Phone option. Once it's done, you should have a clean install of the iOS and an operating phone, as long as there are no hardware issues with it.

    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you dont receive email from one account on one device. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
    Get help with Mail on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
    Log in to your email provider's website to make sure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Make sure your settings are correct using Mail Settings Lookup.
    Restart your iOS device.
    Delete the affected email account from your device.
    Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Tap the affected email account.
    Tap Delete Account.
    Add your account again.

    I recently put on a PowerPoint presentation at DU, in Denver Colorado; signed on as DU guest to access Internet link.  SInce then I haven't been able to get e-mail on my Iphone - Cannot Get Mail, Server Stopped Responding.  I tried all previous suggestions, such as rebooting phone, updating software etc.  I went to MacBook Pro and tried logging on to yahoo e-mail.  Apparently there was a security risk to my e-mail account so Yahoo locked up my account.  I reset my password, it was verified through text message, and Voila it worked.  Don't forget you also have to change this on your Iphone: go into settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars; click on your e-mail browser, then account and enter your new password, click done and it will verify on you phone as well.  Hope this helps!!!
