Cannot get Firefox to open AtAll since last night but windows says it is open

I can onlyy say that last night firefox was working even though it has
closed for no reason at times but suddenly it seemed to stop working
I click on the icon on the tool bar and Nothing happens. I tried to uninstall in order to reinstall but it would not let me kept saying to close Firefox first..do not know how to do that when It will not connect I should also say that since I installed Firefox my Adobe flasher has crashed three times?

Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

• I cannot get firefox to open, could security setting interfer? I use AVG

On Wednesday 9/28 Comcast changed my modem and now I cannot get Firefox to open, when I click my mouse on the icon I get a brief hourglass and that quickly goes away and Firefox doesn't open.

The extension(s) that AVG installs can certainly be a problem, disable "AVG Safe" for a temporary solution, but it is better to reinstall AVG without the Link Scanner component, and as always be vigilant in rejecting additional crapware, please review all of the following but particularly information concerning "AVG Safe".

• I was no longer able to click on my Firefox icon and open . I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled and I still cannot get Firefox to open. It says that the download was successful. What should I do?

I attempted to open Firefox as usual and when I clicked on the icon nothing happened. I uninstalled Firefox and then reinstalled. It said that the download for Firefox was successful but it still does not open. When I click on Firefox it now just says to upgrade Firefox. What should I do to get Firefox up and running again. I have a Mac and my Safari is linking me just fine to the internet so Apple says it is not a Mac problem but a Firefox problem.

I notice you turned off the setting that diverts new windows to a new tab. Since the new window will open in front of your current tab, it may appear that the current tab was closed, when in fact it is behind the new window. This hard to explain in words.
Do you want to switch the setting?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
Check the box for "Open new windows in a new tab instead"
Does that help?

• I cannot get Firefox to open using Startup folder with the shortcut

I placed the Firefox shortcut in the Startup folder but it will not open Firefox automatically when I initially boot up.
I tried putting other Applications in the Startup folder, such as IE, and they all work properly. It is only Firefox that will not open up. Firefox is my default browser.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, there and thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I ran a very thorough 'scan and fix' with my Glary's Utilities and afterwards Firefox now opens properly. I'm not sure what the exact problem was but am just glad it is fixed.

i have restarted computer and then I can uninstall firefox. when I reinstall it I can open it a few times but then it will not open. I have tried to turn off firewall and reinstall firefox and that did not help. I turn fiewall off and firefox will still not open

Hello fireguy7542, you mean the Mcafee Cox firewall (inside the suite), check also if you can make exception in antivirus, otherwise try to disable the suite to see if the firefox works.

• I cannot get Firefox to open so I can browse.

Firefox will no long open up to browse. It has been getting slower and slower and tonight it will not open at all. I tried to download it but it keeps telling me I have to close it first in order to install. Close what? It's not running. I tried to uninstall it, same msg. Please close before uninstalling. I am confused and upset over this. I tried several times, checked the plugins and only flash was not updated. I tried to update it but it keeps telling me I have to install Norton and I cannot do that as I have an operating MS Essentials which does not tolerate another anti virus program. How do I get my Firefox to work again?

Do you see any passwords in the Password Manager?
*Firefox > Preferences > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
In not then there may be a problem with the files that stores the passwords, see Troubleshooting in this Knowledge Base article:

• Tried everything, cannot get firefox to open new tab rather than new window. set options, cleared cache, rebooted. win 7 firefox v26

Win 7 64bit desktop.
Set tools --> options --> tabs OPEN new windows in new TAB instead checked.
apply/save .. tried from there, tried exiting firefox. tried clearing cache.
what else???

Hello leelassow, Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Cannot get firefox to open.

I get a crash message when I click on firefox icon on desktop. Firefox will not open in safe mode either. This string "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted" does not work either.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

If you have submitted Breakpad crash reports then post the IDs of one or more Breakpad crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page. You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

After a power outage, I cannot open Firefox 3.6.10.

• Cannot get Firefox to open on my selected home page [MSN] instead of Search

On my desktop which has Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Firefox 4, when opening and launching Firefox, the "default" page is Search instead of MSN. I have followed your instructions as to how to fix this, but it does not work. I have to manually click on Tools, then Options and change the home page...each and every time I launch.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the affected files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

• I cannot get firefox to open at all. I tried doing the thing through task manager but it doesn't have anything firefox running at all. Why is it not opening and how can i fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what to d to open it i've tried all i could think of!!!

OK - undo the changes you made to DEP.

• I have reinstalled 4 times and I still cannot get firefox to open in a screen I can see; it is transparent and I can see my background screen though hazy.

I have gone into every help thing I could find and tried everything I could but nothing changes. I hate chrome and IE but I am going to have to switch to them if I can't get it to work. One person who seemed to have a similar problem said something about reset but I can't find any place where I can reset firefox.
I am frustrated and have lost a whole day because of this and can't find any one real I can talk to.

Hold shift and double click the firefox icon, hit Reset Firefox.
