This is a known problem with Windows 7 Enterprise using certain Group Policy settings. Solution for me was to use another machine running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Genius results can't be updated right now. An unknown error occured (13010)
Hi Folks,
I have been getting this error for some time everytime I turn Genius on. I have tried deleting "iTunes Library Genius.itdbi" from my iTunes fold as some have said but this does not fix it. I have now registered with iTunes Match and it connot get beyond the first stage on information collection and I suspect it is linked to the same issue.
Can anyone help.

PeteI decided to check whether genius would work on another log on account on the same computer (in xp) and it worked like a charm (syncing w/iphone works too). So I simply rebuilt my itunes library on the other account by redirecting itunes to my old library. It still ***** that I had to do that, but at least it works now. I don't know why it didn't work in my windows account, it's exactly the same library! Oh well...

Photo sync error- can't update because the required file cannot be found
After setting preferences for updating photos, i get the error-
"can't update ipod because the required file cannot be found"
It seemes to update all other stuff like music and podcasts, but will not update photos.
This is driving me crazy!
Any help would be appreciated
Sheila
Windows XPThe same problem exists with the German Windows version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
The error message says nothing!
I wasted a lot of time checking the photo files but there was nothing wrong.
Then I monitored the hd-access to find out WHAT a file is missing: it seems to be about the cache files of the program that isn't orientated right about it's own files!!! It seems to be a big fat bug!!!
The hint here really helps but it also means that all compressed files will be deleted and compressed again. That takes hours of time and lots of GB temp-space on the drives.
I think Apple should deliver a bug-free version of iTunes as soon as possible. And Apple should talk to the customers for that they must not waste their time because of bugs in Apple software.
Will Apple read this?
I can't find an email-adress to send it directly to apple.

When I attempt to sync my nano I get an error message: "The ipod cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."
This is getting frustrating. Every example of my problem has the same reply:
Try deleting the iPod Photo Cache folder. This is normally located in your pictures folder. Once this is done, try syncing again.

I have NO photos on my Ipod Nano. I select "Photos" and the Ipod goes to a blank screen with the msg "No Photos" at the bottom. There must be some other file missing. Itunes won't connect to the Ipod, I keep getting the same error over and over. It would be nice if it told me what file is missing.

I keep getting this messae when I try to share itune to my new mac The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed.
Doublechecking. In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the instructions from the following document?

When I connect my iPhone (ios 4.3.3) to my Desktop Mac I get an error message. "iPhone cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." This happened while I was downloading photos from iPhoto.
Close "iPhoto" if it is open. Open the "Pictures" folder and right-click on "iPhoto Library." Select "Show Package Contents." Right-click the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, select "Move to Trash" and sync your iPhone. The error message should no longer appear.
if that doesn't work,
uninstall itunes and download the lastest version -
I went to sync my iPhone 4 as usual with my iTunes account on my MacBook Pro and when it got to the end stage of the sync where it syncs with iPhoto, I get a pop up message that says, "The iPhone cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found." What do I do?
Hi. I am having the same problem.
I have updated iPhone software and carrier settings, OSX Lion on the comp and in step 4 of 4 during photo sync about half way through, the error message comes up and now my pics are gone from the phone. I did empty the cache and the problem still persisted. I changed cables, I restored the phone and synced from the back up and even restored and created a new phone identity, still no love.
I am puzzeled, any suggestions? -

I am trying to load iTunes and keep getting a error 126 and reinstall program. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice and keep getting the same error message. How can this be resolved?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

When I synch my ipod touch I get the following message "The Ipod touch cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found". Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it? this error occurs at the point it is syncing the photos - all other things seem to be syncing fine.
Hello sanbrunostew,
Try trashing your iPod's Photo Cache. See this article for information on where to find your iPod's Photo Cache.

To those users with Windows 7 and iTunes that cannot turn on Genius due to a 'required file cannot be found' or have begun getting the error stated above and can't find the solution.
Well the solution is on this post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10554450 (Windows 7 RTM (Build 7600) and iTunes 9.0), but is more complex to put into practice than the mere command given on the post.
*You must disable (not just stop) the Branchcache service on windows _and reboot_* the machine for it to take effect, after that Genius will update without any problems.
If you like me and have a corporate notebook with Group Policy setting this service to run then you must disable it from the services menu within Administrative Tools in the Control Panel (rather than the command in the previous post).
If you don't have administrator access then you must speak with your IT department and have them disable it for you.
Now this is what really annoys me - *APPLE really should get their act together and fix this error, as it's caused by a conflict in between the Genius update routine and a genuine windows service and has been around since the release of Windows 7 (perhaps Vista)*. It really can’t be that hard to fix since it’s just a simple data exchangeI found more info here:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/geni us-results-cant-be-updated-right-now/ab98e076-50a8-4dd0-b9d1-ee4399030236?page=1 &tm=1322094589886
It looks like updating Match and updating Genius are both incompatible with the branchcache service. I disabled the service, and was able to fetch Genius and Match info to this PC. I then re-enabled branchcache, and once again, "update (Match, Genius)" fail with this error message--however, I can play my Cloud library from the PC, I just can't update its contents. -
I tried to sync my Macbook Pro photos in iPhoto with my iPod Touch. I have done this numerous times, but today I got an error message saying the required file cannot be found. At the same time all of my photos on my iPod vanished. Can anyone help me?
Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
