Cannot get german keyboard layout in X

I use the xfce desktop manager. I do not have an xorg.conf in etc.
The policy file 10 keymap.fdi seems to have selected the right layout. Since I cannot even type a minus sign, I am heavily affected by the problem. What can I do to get the correct keyboad layout

Thanks, that resolved the problem.

  • Where is the Alt+Gr button? (German keyboard layout)

    I have an iBook from the US and use it with German keyboard layout. I miss the Alt+Gr key. For example I need it to type the @ symbol, which I used to get with AltGrq.
    Can anyone please help me how to activate the Alt+Gr key or how to type @, [, ], ~ with the German layout?

    To create an @ in the German layout, press the Option and L keys simultaneously. The [ and ] can be made by pressing Option+5 and Option+6 respectively. To create an ~, hold down Control, Option, and N.

    I am not familiar with Citrix Reciever but is it possible it is open or being used in another open app?
    Try quitting all apps then try again.
    Quit all apps: Double tap the Home button and swipe the app preview page up for each open app

  • Assign German keyboard layout to English input source?

    I have a MacBook Pro with a German keyboard layout (physical). If I change the input source to US English, Mac would not recoginze the German keyboard layout (i.e. it prints Z when I press Y). Is there a way to assign German keyboard layout to the US English input source? So I can type English using the physical German keyboard.
    The reason why i need US English input source is MS Office for Mac automatically changes the proofing language based on the input source.
    i have ukelele installed but am not sure the best way to do it.

    So I guess I have to change the keyboard layout.
    Nobody does that as far as I know. How about Tools > Language to change the language of your doc to whatever you want?
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/word-2011-for-mac-changing-the-dictionary- to-a-dif.html
    Plus for the default template if you want
    "Open a blank document. On the Tools menu choose language. Choose the language version you want to use. Click the DEFAULT button to change that to the default language. Close the dialog and then quit Word. When prompted whether you want to save changes to the Normal template (that's the default template), choose yes, you do want to save the changes."

  • TS3711 I have changed the keyboard on my iBook G4 (OS 10.5) to a Japanese JIS Keyboard but cannot get the Keyboard Setup Assisstant to run and recognise it.

    I have changed the keyboard on my iBook G4 (OS 10.5) to a Japanese JIS Keyboard but cannot get the Keyboard Setup Assistant to run and recognise it. Some symbols don't match. What can I do to get the new keyboard recognised/installed? The keyboard setup assitant looks as if it will open when clicked on but does not.

    You may need to reset the pmu.  See this article:

  • [SOLVED] German keyboard layout working in XDM, but not in E17?

    Hello out there,
    After a fresh installation of my Arch Linux box, I want to use e17.
    Everything works fine, except that e17 does not take over the german keyboard layout that I configured for X.
    This is the content of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-keyboard.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "keyboard"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "de"
    Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
    EndSection
    Under XDM, I can enter Umlauts and everything is fine. In e17, this is not the case.
    I am sure that I already had this problem in the past but I can't remember the solution.
    Any ideas?
    EDIT: Now I put this in the file 10-evdev.conf, but with still no more effect.
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "de"
    Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
    EndSection

    Solved only for basic variants of keyboard layouts. I use 'cz qwerty', but no option for this xkbmap variant is icluded into XKBSwitch module. Loading this variant manually via setxkbmap command is possible'but annoying... There is no support for XKB variants in e17 when X used and supported by e17 provide the job reliably but of extraordinary way for e17 configuration.

  • How to setup german keyboard layout?

    I am currently working on a german layout.
    If I click on the keyboard indicator on the toolbar there are a couple of already existing keyboard layouts (beside english) but not german.
    So how can I install german keyboard layout on an existing Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris 2009.06 machine?
    Peter

    It is a known bug on the Asus Transformer. Firefox works fine with it as a tablet. Though we still have some issues to sort out with the hardware keyboard. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=669361

  • Macbook with german keyboard layout

    Hello everyone,
    I'm visiting the US in next month and I'd like to buy a macbook from the U.S apple store. Is it possible to order the macbook online with a installed german keyboard? Or instead buying it in a retail store?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you very much for the quick help.
    I didn't have the kotoeri checked.
    However there was another step I had to take after making the input "thingy" appear in the menubar. If you click it and then select the kotoeri preferences from the drop down menu you get all the detailed settings I was looking for. You can specify which layout you want to use in eisuu mode and what kind of kana input.
    Thank you once again for giving me the essential tip for finding this little preference window.

  • Cannot get correct print layout for multiple page/booklet printing

    In trying to print a pdf file that is landscape, 2 pages per sheet, booklet format, I cannot get the print preview to show the correct layout.  I have tried all the options in the print menu, but either I get the pages in the incorrect order or I get what should be on the right side on the left side and vice versa. Of course, there is NO help in the Adobe knowledge base.  Has anyone else experienced this problem.  Is there a fix?  Additionally, Adobe wants me to pay $39 for assistance that they will not guarantee they can fix.  How crazy is that!
    Thanks for your response.

    I highly recommend Quite Imposing. It can create nearly any booklet you want as a pdf file. Then you will have no problem being sure it is what you want before you print to paper.

  • Missing characters in german keyboard layout

    I'm using Gnome 3 on a PC with a german keyboard with a physical layout like this one. The german layout is configured in the settings and mostly works as intended, but one key is mapped wrongly. The key next to the left shift key in the second row from below is supposed to have the characters "<" and ">" on it, but instead it produces "-" and "_", duplicating another key. As a result, there is no way to type the "less" and "greater" characters. The built-in keyboard layout viewer shows an US physical one (like this one, notice e.g. the "enter" key which occupies only one row instead of two in the german one and the wider left "shift" key), regardless of whether the german or an english (logical) layout is selected.
    So, if there is a way to change the physical layout, how do i do it?

    Hi, I have had that problem a while ago...the other way around. I'm from Germany and was missing German characters on my US keyboard. I wrote about how I solved this here: https://myubuntux.wordpress.com/2012/01 … d-in-xorg/
    I'm pretty sure this will help you solve your problem...at least introduce you to the tools I used.

  • [SOLVED] trying to get my keyboard layout to work, & hal to mount..

    hi,
    prior to the recent xorg upgrade, i had my xorg.conf set my keyboard layout, and hal would automount my phone in pcmanfm. since the xorg update, for the sake of not having to to set up the new hotplugging, I disabled it in my xorg.conf so my keyboard would keep its layout.
    obviously though, with hot plugging switched off, hal wont mount my phone, so i am trying to get my keyboard set up and get hal automounting.
    i have set    Option       "AutoAddDevices" "True" in my xorg.conf
    i have edited /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi as follows;
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!-- -*- SGML -*- -->
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keymap">
    <append key="info.callouts.add" type="strlist">hal-setup-keymap</append>
    </match>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keys">
    <merge key="input.xkb.rules" type="string">base</merge>
    <!-- If we're using Linux, we use evdev by default (falling back to
    keyboard otherwise). -->
    <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">kbd</merge>
    <match key="/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer:system.kernel.name"
    string="Linux">
    <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">logiaccess</merge>
    </match>
    <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">gb</merge>
    <merge key="input.xkb.variant" type="string" />
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    basically, my keyboard is still in us layout, and hal still wont mount my phone even after restarting X! what have i missed?

    ok, i managed to fix the problem. i edited the .fdi file as follows;
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!-- -*- SGML -*- -->
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keymap">
    <append key="info.callouts.add" type="strlist">hal-setup-keymap</append>
    </match>
    <match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keys">
    <merge key="input.xkb.rules" type="string">base</merge>
    <!-- If we're using Linux, we use evdev by default (falling back to
    keyboard otherwise). -->
    <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">evdev</merge>
    <match key="/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer:system.kernel.name"
    string="Linux">
    <merge key="input.xkb.model" type="string">evdev</merge>
    </match>
    <merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">gb</merge>
    <merge key="input.xkb.variant" type="string" />
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    for some reason, logiaccess and kbd work in xorg.conf, but no in hal? instead, evdev can do everything!

  • How can I use premiere pro cc in english language with german keyboard layout/german shortcuts on a mac?

    Hi,
    how is it possible to use a german keyboard with its german shortcuts on premiere pro cc in english language on a mac?
    I use all my softwares in english.
    But aside adobe I can use or change in other softwares (Avid, FCP7, FCPX) to use german keyboard shortcuts on a german logic keyboard.
    With After Effects CC I could add a german .txt to a language folder to the installed english version and tataaa:
    I could use german keyboard and the german shortcuts on an english installed AE CC.
    And in PS there is also a trick.
    But in Premiere Pro CC this language .txt doesn´t exist.
    And there are many shortcuts that differ from english to german.
    Last Job I worked on a PC with the english installed language version, and I could work with the german QWERTZ Logickeyboard
    and use the german shortcuts.
    I googled and googled and even talked to the support. But no real helpful answer.
    Maybe it was easier to do in Premiere CS6. Was it possible there?
    So how is it possible to use a german keyboard QWERTZ with german shortcuts on Premiere Pro CC in english language on a mac?
    Thanks for your help.
    David
    MacBook Pro 2,6 GHz i7, OSX 10.9.3 english

    I'd also love to have the answer on this.
    It's really bothering. All Training material is in english and I have setup my complete system with all apps in english.
    With all the apps shortcuts work just fine, just with Premiere Pro CC it doesn't do it at all .....
    Please fix this!
