i lost all my music because i thought everything was peachy and it wasnt. i tried to change my prefferences to read only from my external lacie hd. but that didnt work and i ended up loosing all my music if some one could please help me out to get this working that would be awsome. because i wanna start ripping my dvds on here as well for my apple tv and im scred im gonna end up needing a bigger computer or something PLEASE HELP

Hi, Lars -<menu>"..but is it safe to delete everything from my internal HD now.."</menu>Assuming you've been able to boot from the external, it's probably safe.
You might want to consider leaving the OS in place on both disks, though. I've found it very convenient to be able to boot from the other disk when something goes wrong with the OS I normally run - much more convenient than rummaging for removable bootable media.

An easy route would be to use the iTunes Match service such that all your Songs are available anywhere over the internet via iCloud. Once complete you can create an account on your friends PC, download iTunes and sign-in to the iTunes Store with your Apple Id, start iTunes Match and it will provide access to all your Songs.
Not quite so good, is simply to follow the steps on your friends PC as above, however, instead of iTunes Match simply access the 'purchased' songs area from the iTunes Store home page that will give you access to all your purchases without iTunes Match.
IMPORTANT: Apple only like to see a single Apple Id associated with one device - so if your friend already has an active Apple Id account on the PC, it would be wise to use an alternate machine. Apple has a 90 day lock out associated with switching Apple Ids on a common device.

The iTunes application should be installed on the system drive. You may need to repair iTunes to fix that error regarding a missing .exe.
To organize your library properly see Make a split library portable.
If you don't have a working version of the library that can be transformed into a portable shape I have tools and techniques that can repair the broken links.

Cannot get itunes to load on new computer. Widows 7 any ideas???

I have ane wcomputer running Win 7. I cannot get itunes to load. i authorized the unit and all i get is a prompt to repair or delete itunes. When i hit repair it then promps me to delete itunes and that is the only choice I have. any ideas?????

You can only have 5 computers authorised at the same time. If you won't be using the old computer you should deauthorise it.
Don't try to transfer your library via home sharing, simply copy the entire iTunes folder (and all subfolders) across the network or via an external drive. If the media folder is not a subfolder of the main iTunes folder that holds the database files (or you have any media in other locations) then these folders need to end up at precisely the same paths on the new computer as they had on the old one, otherwise as long as the media folder remains a subfolder of the iTunes folder all should be well.

I've tried updating the software, reinstalling iTunes, using different ports on the laptop, different cables...just about everything. I have NEVER been able to connect this one device, but all the others are fine. I'm at my wits end. Is there someone out there who can help a relative novice figure out what's going on? Cannot get Itunes 10 to download to macbook 10.6.8

I cannot get Itunes 10 to download on my macbook 10.6.8. when I check for updates via itunes it tells me that there is a new version and when I go to download it my computer tells me all software is up to date. I cannot sync my iphone or ipad

With that one, I'd try updating using a .dmg installer downloaded from the Apple Website:

I was having major problems too. I ended up completely uninstalling itunes then downloaded it again from http://www.apple.com/itunes/. If you're using firefox, for some reason itunes will not download and I don't know if using googlechrome will also have problems,so just to be sure that it will work on your first try, use internet explorer when you download itunes. Hope this helps...

Cannot get iTunes to recognise audiobook folder

So, I have some audiobooks I want iTunes to load onto my iPhone. No matter what I do I cannot get iTunes to recognise that the folder/files is an audiobook. The thing is iTunes was good, but now it *****. They seem to have gone out of their way to make it as difficult to use. Why? The version 10 s were OK, but 11 is a piece of ****. Is it because of this rediculous DMR obsession that punishes legit users that in turn means that I have to use not so legit means to achieve what I want? It's *****, it's crap and if it means that I have to troll through endless help files and google searches to achieve this, then surely this is against the Apple principal that I should be able to use the product without a manual. I don't buy the "iTunes is free, so don't complain". It's built into the price of the iPhone/iPad.

I cannot get iTunes 10.5.1 (windows) to burn a playlist to CD. It cancels immediately with an Unknown Error 4251 message.
I am running iTunes on both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7 and get same result on both machines.
It used to burn perfectly using previous versions of iTunes.
Any suggestions?

The 4251 isn't all that common (relative to other reported import/burning messages). So to be getting it suddenly on two different PCs suggests a conflict with something you've got running on both machines.
Could you post diagnostics for both PCs, please? (Fingers crossed there might be some commonalities in the two sets of results that might lead us to the cause of this.)
(No need to put both sets of diagnostics in one reply. Posting each set in a different reply will quite probably be much easier for you.)
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

This fix does not work for me because there is no apple software update to repair because an earlier fix said to uninstall it and all the other apple componants before reinstalling. I also can not reinstall at all now. There are heaps of people with the same problem. When I try to reinstall itunes it goes part way and then I get the same error message "there is a problem with the windows installer package". Why all of a sudden is this happening after years of using itunes?

Cannot Get iTunes Homepage to load

I am running Windows 7 and the latest version of iTunes. When it tries to load, I only get a blank screen with iTunes Store in the middle. No homepage. I have tried the "fixes" on the website, which is what the support folks referenced me to. I still cannot get iTunes homepage to appear. If anyone has any ideas I am open. I have used iTunes on this computer before.

I think I have the same problem. I can access the itunes store, youtube etc from the apple tv, I can play items on my playlist on the apple tv by switching to apple tv speakers on the bottom of my itunes page. But when it comes to loading my library the wheel just keeps on turning. There does seem to be a connection to my itunes as changes to my library name in itunes is reflected on the apple tv under "Computers"
I am not sure that this has anything to do with it, but I do not have a "SHARED" library in itunes even though my Home Sharing is switched on, which is verified by the fact that I can see my library name and play music on the apple tv.
