Cannot get Macbook Pro to internet for more than 5-8 minutes. Why?

Greetings Apple board, this will be my first.
I have recently bought a Macbook Pro and I love everything about it. The only problem I'm having with this laptop is connecting it to the internet for more than 5-8 minutes. I have two PC's in the house which are connected to the internet via wireless Linksys router. I'm not to tech-advanced so if somebody could explain step-by-step as to what to do, that'd be great and very much appreciated.
A note: My Macbook works at other people's houses.

Model #, have you updated the firmware? Are you using a security protocol? If so which? The other thing I would try is:
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS. Put the following in the DNS Servers box:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
hit OK. Then hit Apply

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one. If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

HP 3050 will not stay on the wireless network for more than a few minutes at a time.

My HP DeskJet 3050 J610 is constantly dropping the wireless connection. It won't stay on for more than a few minutes. If I power cycle, it comes right back on, but drops again after a few minutes. It will print fine from a USB. When it drops off, pings time out even though the device shows "ready" in Windows 7, Windows XP and OSX. I've done everything HP suggests - static IP, upgraded firmware, diagnostic tools, etc. I am out of options.
I can hit print right now, printer shows as ready, then I will get a print error. If I go over and power cycle the printer, my document will print - most of the time. It will remain on the network for a few minutes, then stop working. As soon as I power cycle it, I get a few more minutes before it drops. It has always done this from day one.

I don't have another wireless network close by that I could test it on. I'm a little isolated. i might be able to work out a time when I could take it by a friend's house, but he's over an hour away.
I have a Win 7 laptop, a Win XP desktop and an old Mac Powerbook as well as an iPod Touch and iPad 3 that use my wireless network without any problems - besides the fact that hardly any of my devices will talk to the other... But that's an OS issue. They all see the network, and the printer after I cycle the power on it.
My wireless router is a Netgear WNR2000. I remember monkeying with the channels when I frist got this printer a few months ago, but I don't remember what all I did. Since I did a firmware update on the router, the channel is now set to Auto. If there's a channel you think I should try, let me know what it is. The printer shows up on the list of devices in the router, but that may be because I have its address reserved for the static IP. Interestingly, the router sees the printer, even though my devices cannot. I did a ping just now while checking that, and got this - which is unusual. Normally they all time out.

Is there a possibility that the printer is going into a standby state and having trouble waking when traffic hits? I don't know if that's possible, just seems like it looking at this.

In Yosemite, I can;t operate for more than a few minutes with Keychain or Safari asking for my login password. How can I turn this off, and still be safe?

Using Yosemite, I an't seem to work for more than a few minutes without being asked for my login password. Keychain wants it, Safari wants it, iCloud wants it..the list goes on. Then in 10 minutes or so, they all want it again. Passwords are being stored by Safari as usual, but new tabs or pages bring up the request. How can I turn this off and still have protection?

Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
3. Click the "First Aid" tab
4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
5. Close the Preferences window
6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
7. Enter your username and password
8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:

2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
"New Keychain"
7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

Playing music through nano and auto stereo, while traveling...nano is set to shuffle, but if vehicle is stopped for more than a few minutes, nano restarts with same song everytime! How do I make it really shuffle the songs

Having trouble with Nano shuffle while traveling. It's connected to my vehicle stereo and set to shuffle. When I stop the vehicle for more than a few minutes, the music resumes with the same song it always starts with. How can I get it to keep shuffling after restarting the vehicle?

Is the iPod actually doing the music playing? If the iPod is connected using a USB port (on the car audio system) and docking cable, the car audio system is doing music playing. The iPod is just acting as a storage device (like a USB flash drive) with song files. So, in that setup, it does not matter whether the iPod is set to shuffle or not, because the car audio system is playing the songs. Any change to how it plays songs would have to be a setting on the car audio system.

Sounds like a hardware failure.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and take it in for them to look at. It will probably need to be replaced.

[SOLVED] Cannot start X: Xorg.bin blocked for more than 120 seconds

I just rebooted my desktop after a couple of months and now I cannot run Xorg. When I run startx, I get a black screen for two minutes and then a backtrace pops up. At that point I can no longer interact with the console, but I can still ssh and run commands. I've tried setting Xwrapper.conf to needs_root_rights = yes and I have tried just running startx as root, with no help. I'm not sure how to isolate what would have broken this as I have updated so many packages in the last two months. Any ideas what I can try next?
If it helps, I am using the open source ati driver and my xorg.conf.d is empty.

Ok, so I tried unplugging my HDMI monitor and that seems to prevent the hang. When I plug the monitor back in and try to have it detect, it hangs again. I tried connecting via DVI (desktop)-HDMI (monitor) cable instead and have the same issue. I wonder if my monitor is causing the issue (it is pretty flaky, taking several tries to turn it on,) although I find it odd that a bad monitor would cause the driver to hang. Maybe the monitor is not sending the right data to the driver to set the mode. I'll try to find another monitor and see if that resolves the issue.

How do you get a song to play for more than one slide???

I'm new to mac and I am trying to create a birthday video but the audio will not continue for more than 1 slide. I can do it in powerpoint but I want to burn the presentation onto DVD. Thanks for your help!

I just created a slideshow using Keynote and I just moved the song from iTunes into the inspector --> document --> audio. There is a small box that you just put the song into and it automatically plays, either once or looped.

I have a imac and a pc laptop set up with my wireless lexmark x7675 printer through my bthome hub network, but cannot get macbook pro to work

i have a lexmark wireless printer, its connected to my imac via wireless bthome hub connection, works fine, so does my pc laptop. but when it comes to connect my macbook pro aswell it wont work. i have installed lexmark drivers on macbook, i have follwed the wireless connection setup and plugged in via usb port. it says it has connected successfully, but it will not print. i had it connected at one point, but would only print if the imac was on, but now it wont even do that.
please help, it seems like instead of connecting through bthome hub it wants to connect to my imac, how do i change this?

Well there would probably be different settings for the wireless.
For example, with a Lexmark printer although I needed to do nothing to get it to work via USB, to get the wifi working I had to use a special setup option for getting the wifi to work on my pc.
You can probably download the manual for your printer from the manufacturers website, and it should tell you how to get it to work with your printer.

How to automatically log in on a MacBook Pro when there is more than one user

We have 4 users on our MacBook Pro.
How can we switch between users without having to log on each time?
I have found the "Disable Automatic Login" option in Systems Preferences have have unchecked it but I still get asked each time we switch between users - is this setting universal for all users once set, or does it need to reset when in each user profile?

You are correct about iPhoto - sorry. It does look like local sharing has been removed in favour of iCloud sharing. It's something I did so rarely that I thought it was still there. You can export & copy items between libraries but it is less useful now (I'm not a fan of iCloud).
User home folders are designed to prevent other users seeing your stuff. It's why each user gets their own password.
You can give another user files via their /Users/username/Public/Dropbox folder (or go via the /Users/Shared).
The 'Shared' folder is within /Users - that can be used for all users. Some apps store media in there when it is needed by all users (Apples Motion did this for a while).
Applications are 'system wide' so any user can use them so long as they have access to that folder - all users have access to /Applications by default.
To be honest the default behaviour is generally setup correct with all of this… just install apps to /Applications & all users can use them.
If you need some privacy - put it in your home folder.
If you need everyone to access - put it in shared.
If you are having to think hard about how to make something work you may be going about it wrong - ask for a sanity check of your workflow via these discussions

My iPhone5 has terrible Network connection. It rarely works at the normal speed-if ever. I usually get 3G or 1x network dozens of times a day. My phone also gets pretty hot when i try to use any data for more than a few minutes.

My iPhone5 network connection has been terrible for the past week and a half. My phone is no more than a year old so I don't see why it would be a problem with the phone. When I try to use the internet or look for apps or anything like that, anything that uses data really, it takes FOREVER if it even loads! Most of the time it won't even load. My network changes from LTE(which doesn't work well) to 3G(which works even less) and then to 1x(which basically doesn't work at all). This happens dozens of times a day. It's getting quite irritating. I've tried turning my phone off and letting it sit for a while and that does nothing. I'd really prefer NOT to restore my phone. What is the deal??!

Are you broadcasting your SSID? Sometimes this can cause a problem connecting. Is this Cisco router running any turbo modes or special preparatory protocols.
There are no know issues with Wi-Fi connectivity except on first connection; and the chance of 2 devices having the exact same issue is very unlikely. This sounds like something to do with your wireless router.
Have you tried to connect to another Wi-Fi hotspot elsewhere?
Do you have any 2.4 GHz wireless phones or security system that could interfere with connection?

MS Office Professional Plus 2010 cannot verify the license (in use for more than a year)

After more than a year of use, I now receive the following error message for all Office Applications ....
"Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 cannot verify the license for this product. You should repair the Office program by using the Control Panel." When I Click the OK button, the application is terminated.
I tried using the Control Panel to repair Office, and I have tried to re-install Office. I still get the same message. Note, during repair or installation, my Product ID key is accepted.

I cannot get my Apple TV to output more than 720p on my Sharp 32" 1080p TV

I have an Apple TV connected to a Sharp LC-32GP3U-B 1080p but cannot get it to display any higher than 720p? I have tried different cables and even tried another Apple TV on the same TV no difference. I also have an XBOX 360 & a PS3 both display at 1080?

First of all, you need to evaluate a script-based module (workflow). You need to find answers to following questions:
– What is the target for this script-based workflow?
– How many instances of this target class are exist on the affected computer?
– Does this script leveraging a cookdown concept?
– How long it take for script to complete?

MacBook Pro Freezes while using more than two applications at the same time

Over the last two weeks my MBP has been freezing every time i use two or more applications at the same time. For e.g. my whole system freezes from time to time when i use itunes and safari at the same time. This problem never existed before and has just started recently and is really annoying. What can i do to fix it?

Rather than re-installing Safari have you tried simply "Resetting" it (head to "Reset safari" under the "Safari" menu). It is possible that something in your user folder that supports Safari is really the cause of the problem. Re-installing Safari won't deal with this, but re-setting it can.
In fact the first thing you should try is simply choosing "Empty cache..". If your cache files are corrupted then this in itself could explain the behaviour.
If you choose to do the Reset first try it with just "Empty cache" and "remove all website icons" selected. This will reduce the amount that you will "lose" in the process. (Cookies, history, etc). Add in additional options if the first attempt doesn't fix it.
