Cannot get mail even after changing password

I have not been able to get incoming mail on either of my iMacs.   I can send but not recieve.  My iPhone and iPads do get mail but neither iMac.  I have read here to change password.  I did that and it is the same.  This has been going on for 3 days now.

Replying to myself.  I went onto my iMac and manually enetered the server imap.mail.me.com in the advanced section.  It still shows the p01-imap.mail.me.com but somehow it works now.

    This is a new phone and because my new laptop is 6 weeks late I tried to access my e-mail account direct thriu iphone without using a computer in the setup. I didn't want to reset when my PC arrived.
    The mail screen is now limited to "Mailboxes" or "Inbox", the other options such as Google Yahoo etc have been unavailable since the screen stuck.
    I have a constsnt stream of similar error message "Cannot get mail" "The username or password is incorrect" and it displays my typos in inputting my e-mail address wrongly so I know it is all my own fault.
    I have used the de-freezing method and nothing happened. in the interim I borrow a laptop and at a push I can access my email account through safari but that is really slow and I would like to fix this.

    I had EXACTLY the same problem for more than two weeks, that was NOT solved by speaking to BT 'Tech Support' - they kept saying that the problem was the fault of Apple - untill I finally got some help from them today (Mon 7th Oct).
    The error message I got - despite ALL settings on my iPhone(5) and iPad(4) being absolutely correct - was this:
    'Cannot Send Mail', 'The username or password for SMTP: ***********@mail.btinternet.com is incorrect'
    The only solution I got - eventually - from BT is to delete the above account fro the device and 're-install' it again, but THIS time use the 'Yahoo' option from the list of choices rather than 'Other'.
    When I did this and entered the relevant Name, E-Mail Address, Password, and Description (you can call the account whatever you like), I selected 'next', then I got the word 'Verifying.......' appear after a few seconds, and then I saw the four 'blue tick marks' appear next to my entries.
    These 'blue tick marks' confirm the verification that your details are correct.
    The next time you open your e-mail client on your iPhone or iPad you shoud see your ****@btinternet.com e-mail account in the list of e-mail accounts on your phone (if you have more than one) with a Yahoo icon next to whatever name you chose to call it. If you already have a Yahoo! account (like me) it is probably a good idea to call the 'BTYahoo' account, BT or something, rather than keep the default 'Yahoo' name otherwise you will have two with the same name in your accounts list.
    You SHOULD eventually get back ALL the e-mails that were previously in your inbox, as well as some 'extra' folders that you probably did not have when you first set up the account on your iOS device.
    That is what happened when I reinstalled my account, so I hope this works for you.

    I got it going again... What I did was recreate my iCloud "[email protected]" email address through the "advanced" method on the ipad.
    So, it was  Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > iCloud > Then went manual from there on out. (Didn't use the suggested email address and created my own.)
    I created a NEW me.com email address. Nobody had my old one, so it's just as well... This may not work for some people...

    Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities
    Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
    Enter your user name and password.
    Select Repair and click Start.
    If any problems are found run again to verify all repaired.
    In Mail, when you add the password in the account window, you have to click out of the account to save. When you add the password in SMTP settings it saves automatically.

    i have successfully created the functionality of ibot, conditional ibot and chain ibot.
    i can see the report in the mails.and everything is working fine now.
    If i want oracle bi to send the mails (to let the ibot run ) even when i change the repository by making changes into instanceconfig.xml and NQSconfig.xml, will that be possible.
    for example
    i have created a repository Employee.
    which point to my oracle 1o g server named emp_server.
    I am using the employee_data schema out of it.
    which sends mails to employee which are there.for exampel abc, xyz.
    Now i want to create another ibot which would be different server in different schema and will be using different mailing list.
    i can do this by making changes in the instanceConfig.xml and NQSconfig.xml and can create ibots which will shoot mail to my manger list.This is also working fine.
    Problem is if i make change in above file my oracle BI will point to second rpd and mails from first rpd will not work.
    Can i make changes so that both the mails should work.of employees and manager too.

    think of merging of repositories..
    so that, all subject areas presents in single repository..
    this is common to merge different rpds, for every project. So that you need not to change each time you change the rpd...
    and all reports works fine... with single rpd..

    I have yet to find an email server that does not work with Mail.app. Your solution will be to configure its ports and send/receive protocol according to the email server's requirements.
    Try the Zimbra support forums. I found this excerpt from a relevant post:

    If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know that account password, the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
    Otherwise, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword

    You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

    Being able to to send and receive email is definitely an important feature of the iPhone.  Here are some steps that may help:
    If you are unable to send or receive email, try the following steps:
    Restart the iOS device.
    Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage to ensure that the device has Internet access. If you're unable to load a webpage, try the Wi-Fi assistant.
    Try an alternative Internet connection.
    If your email is provided by your Internet provider, try connecting from the home network.
    If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, try to disable Wi-Fi:  Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn off Wi-Fi.
    If not, try a different Wi-Fi network.
    Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    Delete the account from Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then add the email account again on the iOS device.
    If you're still unable to send or receive email, contact your email provider and verify the account settings are correct. You will need to gather this information (PDF).

    The article ends with gaining information from your Email Provider.  I understand you are entering your correct username and password into the iPhone settings, but they may have adjusted some of the other settings.

    I recently upgraded to IOS 5, as well as connected to a cable network instead of dsl, updated iTunes and sync'd my iPad to my Windows XL and got on board with iCloud. Now I keep getting a message that says, " cannot get mail, user ID or password incorrect" with options of choosing OK or going to settings. If I choose the settings, it brings me to account info with my email address and password ( dots) Then if I erase the password and put it back in, it says it's incorrect and if I save it, I may not receive or send mail. If I go directly to my account from the settings icon, and erase my password there instead, and then re- enter it, then it verifies it. Regardless of anything I do, the same message keeps popping up and is very annoying, as well as interrupting. What's wrong, please?

    Thanks for answering, but I should've clarified... The message keeps popping up every couple of minutes. Sometimes as soon as I click OK, it comes back again. I tried deleting the account and re-entering it again, but that didn't work. I tried resetting my iPad by holding both the on and the off switch down until the apple appears...still no help. I went to my PC, and logged into my account and viewed my email without any problem. Is this a problem with my iPad or Yahoo? I called a Yahoo line, and was told I had reached the wrong extension, since it was a line for technical assistance only, and then he hung up. What can I do next?
