Does it work? Well, the beep occurs but no mail comes through without a very long wait. If I quit mail and re-open it, all the new messages come through.
Love has nothing to do with this.

Thanks. However...these links are to basic troubleshooting. Good stuff, except I -- like it seems others -- have multiple email accounts coming into their iPhones (my case, iPhone 5 running latest version of iOS) that until this past Friday evening (September 12, 2014).... worked perfectly, then just all stopped.
In my case, I also lost access to an internet forum I frequent multiple times daily. All worked fine, until things abruptly stopped working the evening of September 12.
Seems like anything with a stored login/password got hosed.
I went into the profiles to make sure my passwords were still there (thought they may have somehow gotten wiped out), but they were there. I re-entered them just in case, no change.
Now just this morning, Sunday September 14, two emails from the same (employer) email account have trickled in. But nothing from the others (gmail, yahoo mail).
Spouse is having same issue on an iPhone 5. -

I had the same issue on both of my devices. I just deleted my account and re-entered my details and it is working fine now.

That's because the forum rules state that surveys are prohibited.
I'm just suggesting that everybody take a good look at what is installed on their phone. Maybe remove all 3rd party apps (you can reinstall later) and reset the phone to see if the problems go away. At least that is a start. I think you will find that most people are not having problems.
Another suggestion would be to take the phone to your local Apple store (if you have one) and let them try to get it working for you. -
I cannot get mail to quit on my computer, it wont even let me shut my computer down
i am having trouble with my macbook pro. I can not get the mail application to to "quit". It will not respond to anything that i am doing. I cant get it to open or close completely...also it will not let me shut my computer down until i quit mail. can someone please help me with this?
You can forcer quit the application

This would be preferred. If you have to force quit the the entire OS- press the power button for a extended period until it forces a immediate shut down. -
I'm running OSX 10.9.1 (13B42)
My problem is that occasionally my Mac wont boot properly. It gets to the background picture where the dock should open but it freezes there. The little apple shows up top left but nothing else and the cursor shows as the little spinning wheel that wont do anything. I can't click on the apple to restart, I have to switch off in back and then start up again. It usally boots all the way after that but I'm worried there's something up since this seems to be happeneing more frequently. Also I'm worried that having to manually shut down like that will somehow damage the software in time?
I tried a disk verify but there were no repairs needed. I repaired disk permissions too just in case but it still seems to happen every once in a while.
I've noticed recently that it happens the next reboot after I've been streaming movies online if that helps. Is there any reason for this and anything i can do to stop it in the future?Thanks Paul, just ran the etrecheck you recommended and got this:

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

I am perplexed where you read that. It isn't true. The iPad is synced to the data available to all devices using the iCloud account if you have authorized it in the settings; PhotoStream, Contacts, Mail, Calendars, etc. That is how the iCloud works. -

Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
Relaunch the App and try again.
Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step. If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem. -
I get an intermittent " Cannot Get Mail. The user name or Password is incorrect" I haven,t touch any settings. Any ideas?
That usually means that the mail server is busy and rejects the Mail App's request for a mail update.

I have tried to set up iCloud on my Mac which is running Mavericks. The Calendar program is blocked by a message saying "moving calendars to server account..." which has been running for days. I can only get out of Calendars by using force quit. Any ideas?

Go to iCloud.com on your computer. Log in and open the Calendar App, to verify that your events are still present. If so, follow the Calendars Archive/Copy procedure listed in iCloud: Archiving or making copies of your iCloud data.
Then Quit/Force Quit iCal on your computer, and paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Next open the Calendars Folder in the User Library Folder and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Also open the Preferences Folder in the same Library Folder, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open iCal. -
hey all, I have been getting the "cannot get mail" error message on my iphone5 suddenly.
ive been using iphone to check two email accounts for months now, one is gmail and not troubled. the other is mail from thunderbird and i get this error message now saying it is not responding. no settings have been changed or anything, it just suddenly stopped receiving mail on my device as of Tuesday afternoon.
Does anyone have iny ideas about why? i have yet to update to the new OS7 yet, could that be it?'The installer has insufficient privileges to modify this file C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\Web kit.resources\inspector\Images\Spinner Inactive Selected.gif.'
That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
IPad cannot get mail any longer
I setup my iPad (3) and iPhone to access my ntlworld and gmail email accounts about 2 months ago. Everything worked fine.
Suddenly this week, I get the message 'cannot get mail' the mail server imap.ntlworld.com is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account into mail settings.
I ONLY get this message on the iPad - I still get my messages on the iPhone ... Even when they are next to each other & both using the same wifi.
I still get my gmail messages with no problem (on both). I am able to send emails from both ... I just cannot receive!
I have made no changes to settings - nor has my mail password or account been altered by the ISP. I checked the settings on the iPad against the iPhone - there is no difference between them.
Any suggestions?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
