Cannot get midi audio into 5.1 surround

Spent two days trying to get the mini to output DD 5.1 to my HK surround rec., it keeps defaulting to 2channel stereo.
The 5.1 option is gray'd out, under utilities> midi> multichannel.
Had apple tech on the phone for 2.5hrs yesterday; they made an appt. for me at the local apple store.
I'm using a toslink mini adapter to a toslink cable.(parts express)

Sorry for the lack of clarity.
You're correct, I'm using the DVD player.app.
You're also right in suggesting an option needs to be enabled in the DVD preference. It's now working fine. Thanks to you and a few others.
Relentlessly, I finally got someone high up the chain in tech support, after 40min. of waiting and one minute of skirting through the menu's, he got the 5.1 out of the mini and the screen on my HK rec. indicated 5.1.
So much for the "genius" at the apple store, insisting a two channel signal means it's also putting out a five channel signal. That's w/o a DSP hooked up, only mac to mac. This was my second round of two hours wasted. The first round was with tech support Sunday, they didn't think to look in there either, instead focused on the audio in the midi section. Yet, they keep asking if I'm ready to donate 140bucks towards the extended service contract.
Anyway, I owe thanks to a few folks on a handful of forums.
Now, my next task is finding a handheld touch screen USB device for KVM. Something on the lines of a tablet or pda, to run my audio.

Go to the Map mode in your iDVD project and make sure the blue bin at the left is empty. That's where you drag slideshows to if you want the DVD to open immediately to that slideshow and bypass the menu.

Sony PFM-42V1: I cannot get any audio from monitor

I cannot get any audio from my PFM-42V1. first: I connected independent speakers via speaker sockets - result no sound. Then after reading its Manuel it suggested I connect headphones to the monitor's audio mini jack - again no sound. What I do not understand is it said if sound doesn't work with headphones - contact computer manufacturer. Any suggestions?

From your description it sounds like your using input 1 or input 2, you will need to feed a audio source into the 1/8 mini female jack (Fig. 1) next to input your using. This will allow the audio to pass to the speakers you've connected to the monitors speakers jacks (Fig 2). Also you'll want to make sure that within the Monitor Menu under Custom Setup that you have Speaker Out: On (not off).

Cannot get any audio on spdif coa

Im using vista 64 with a regular xfi xtreme gamer. I installed the newest drivers but cannot get any audio to output on the FlexiJack. The digital i/o setting is greyed out on the creative console. Ive tried everything i can and cannot not get any sound. I am using the Z5500. The receiver is across the room and my only choice is to use a long coax cable i have.

You enabled it in your windows speaker configuration under "playback devices" ?
You probably have to set it to default by rightclicking on it and activating it and set it to default!?

Cannot get optical audio in working

Hi all,
I have a new MacBook Pro (latest 2010 version) which I specifically bought for audio recording/editing purposes.
However, I cannot get it to work at all, recording is useless except for a normal 3.5mm stereo-in jack. I cannot get the MacBook Pro to record either through optical audio in (my preferred solution) or through my EMU0404 USB soundcard. I basically have a £1,000 brick with a light in the shape of an Apple on the outside and, as it's my first Apple computer, I'm struggling to fix the issue (and struggling to avoid calling it all kinds of names on this forum!)
Any help would be appreciated. I've tried changing the settings in the MIDI setup under utilities, but it's just not recognising the input. Whenever I plug the optical cable in, the Sound preferences screen automatically defaults it to 'Digital Out' and won't allow me to select anything other than the onboard mic as the input source.

Do you by any chance have the 13 inch MacBook Pro? This has only one 3.5mm jack, switchable between input and output; but there is no optical input, only output. Inserting an optical cable into this jack will cause the socket to default to output only (since it knows you want optical and there is no optical input), leaving the internal mic as the only possible input.
The EMU soundcard claims to use CoreAudio and so should work without drivers and appear as an option in Sound>input. Are you trying to use an unsupported sampling rate? - their tech spacs page says 'Macintosh analog operation up to 96kHz and digital operation up to 48kHz only at this time.' If you still can't get any sense out of it, it would be worth approaching the manufacturer.

I cannot get any photos into Photo Stream

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 updated to Mountain lion, an iPad 2 and the latest Apple TV. I have followed the instructions on all devices to the letter and followed the help instructions in the Apple Support Section, but I cannot get a single photo to appear in Photo Stream. I managed to get an album name to appear in iPhoto Photo Steam shared with my apple ID, but there are no photos. I have dragged and dropped, selected single photos and chose the Share icon, then Photo Stream in iPhoto and chose both My photo stream and the one I managed to name, but it just keeps showing photo count as 0.
Photo Stream is activated correctly in the Mac iCloud settings and also in the Settings on my iPad, but not one single photo has made it to my Photo Stream fromf iPad or Mac! I am signed into my ID on Apple TV but Photo Stream has 0 photos.
I have been doing this over and over for a couple of hours. Everything has been followed correctly, but it just wont add a single photo no matter if I do manul or autmatic.
Any ideas from the community?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion last night, and everything seemed to go OK. iPhoto is 9.4.1

Try this basic troubleshooting fix: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it doesn't then your current library is the culprit.
Post back with the results and we can go from there.

Ok. I have my garageband2 going and i pretty much have got the hang of making music using virtual and real instruments. I just don't know how to get Real REAl sound (such as my vocals) into it. my g4 has no mic imput but I have a didgidesign 01 sound card that i would want to use.
where to start?

Try going into your utilities folder and look for Audio/Midi setup utility. This may be where you would set the soundcard as your input.

Can't get mic audio into PP CS5.5

I'm trying to get PP to record audio from a mic. Everything is registering input including studio audio monitors and the mac's internal audio meters are bouncing, but nothing is registering in PP. Here is the setup:
Shure SM58 xlr to dbx mic preamp xlr in. dbx xlr out to M-AUDIO Fast Track Pro xlr in.
Fast Track Pro connected to mac pro via USB (directly, no hub)
Studio Monitors are run off Fast Track Pro via 1/4 bal. lines.
Prem. Pro Prefs audio hardware is set to Fast track pro
Prem Pro audio mixer mic enabled on track two.
Everything is registering audio except Prem Pro. the meters are dead.
I was thinking about running unbalanced RCA Red/White audio out from the MA Fast Track Pro to the analog breakout cable inputs on the Mac Pro's internal Black Magic Intensity Pro card and seeing if that would work. Was thinking it had something to do with the Fast Track Pro being connected by USB.
Final Cut Pro 7 registers the mic audio, but it's been End-of-Lifed, so don't want to use it anymore for any new post.

I have been searching for answer for a while and have found none. My Microsoft LifeChat lx-3000 will not work with premiere pro. It does work on the mac, and in Final cut..but final cut is terrible and I would like to record in premier.
Things I have done:
1. gone to premier pro>preferences>audio hardwear
     - In this menu I selected the "Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000" as my default device
     - in the Audio mixer I changed "Audio 3" to "Touch" hit the Microphone button and nothing happened, when I switch the input to "built in" premier recognizes the built in mic and allows me to record using this...but that one sound really bad.
2. I also went to Utilities>Audio Midi Setup
     - here I selected Premeir Pro cs5 and checked the box next to the "Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000" to indicate that Premier would use this device.
     - still does not work, and every time I open the Audio Midi Setup the box next to "microsoft LifeChat LX-3000" is unchecked....not sure why it wont save.
I am at a lose, if anyone has any suggestions or has dealt with this problem i am all ears...if this has already been covered in another thread, point me in the direction!

Cannot get the audio tracks to stay in sort order

Grrr... I importted CD #1 of an audio book and it looks fine in the playlist and fine in the shuffle. But, when I go to play it, it tries to start with the last item. Then, when I go back into Itunes, they are in reverse order. I sort them (did look thru the threads here before posting) and get off and boom, they are in reverse order again. Go back to itunes and they are in reverse order on thte shuffle. How do I get them to stay from 1 to 99 instead of 99 to 1? I have spent ALL evening on this and am not a happy camper.

PS - it worked fine on the first audio book but not the second or third...

This is not an option in itunes. The only way to rectify the problem is to rename each track with a prefix so that the alphabetical order is the actual order. I have been trying to solve this problem for a couple of years, hoping that each itunes update will come with a fix, but nothing. As it turns out, if I had spent less time searching every forum and discussion on the web to solve this problem and just changed the names in the first place, I could have saved myself a ridiculous amount of time. Good luck.

Cannot import midi files into GarageBand 2.02

Same here. Now that I think of it, I recently put in Logic Studio 8 and Garageband didn't open on it's own anymore. That was iLife'06. I then up-graded to iLife '08 and Garageband still doesn't open to a new project. The only way I can still open Garageband is to make a "template" out of one of their demos, then when that opens I strip the tracks out and start with new ones. By the way, I just tried to install XLN Audio's Addictive Drums. They work in Logic Studio, but do not open at all in Garageband. Error message says the plug-in is not "valid". So much for Garageband being easier than Logic.

Hi How do u get Midi & Audio Trks to Arm and Record together

I yesterday I had to connect a Dr Rhythm Drm Machine to logic in Auto sync mode which meant it would have a master slave relation ship via my unitor 8 with Logic Pr0 7.1.1.
However once in logic once arming the midi track I had assigned along with 3 other audio trks for live bass guitar and vocals, I found that when I went into record mode the audio trks would just stay there blinking in stand by mode whilst the midi trk went ahead and recorded this was in sync mod. when I came out of sync mode I could record stuff in logic but not the Midi.
My work around for the moment is to record the midi Drm trk in its interiority down the trk and then record the rest of the stuff on the second pass. If any one can help me with a step by step run through of how to do this successfully I would be very great full ahead of time

Hi Thanx for all your help in this matter last night finally cracked it I had to highlight the audio trks i needed in the trk mixer along with one of the trks on the arrange page then using shift key whilst selecting the midi channel I was able to do what I needed. I do hope that come logic 8 there is a simpler method still trying to see if I can asign a key command to a select group of chosen channels. which should be as easy as selecting group record in group settings.....but apparently not so as this function doeent appear to work even when it comes to doing group automation so if you have any ideas on correct proceedures please let me know and again thanx for your help thus far

I cannot get the audio to work using my new P221 HP monitor. Can someone please help me?

I wrote once before but I must have mislabeled my message. Haven't been able to even find my question much less any replies. I purchased an HP 221 Monitor with installed speakers, I am a novice at computers and didn't really know what I would need to install the monitor. I find that I can connect the VGA cable with no problem. But th DVI-D cable cannot be installed on my computer due to no connection there. My computer is an HP Model P 6600Z, desktop PC. It is operating on windows 7 and browser is Internet Explorer. I purchased an adapter with a female cable adapter to attach to the monitor cable and then I connected it to my PC using a the USB supplied with the
adapter. It still doesn't work. I guess I can install external speakers but the main reason I bought this monitor was becasue it has internal speakers. Thanks.

I am sorry for the confusion. The reason I asked about the speaker bar is that I can't find any information that shows built-in speakers on your monitor. I have looked everywhere, including in the HP specifications.

The way that I have always connected speakers is to the port labeled # 5 (Audio: Front speaker/Line Out). This port allows sound to be sent to speakers. The VGA port is for video only. There is no audio capability. The only connection that sends Audio and Video is the HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors.
This is the type of connector that I would expect to see coming from your speakers:
The male one at the bottom of the picture.
Please check the monitor carefully to assure that there are actually speakers built-in. I just don't want us to continue fighting a problem that doesn't exist. There may have been some incorrect information in the advertisement that you read.

I cannot get an Audio insert to work

I have tried to follow the instructions explicitly but get nowhere when I try to insert on a page with other stuff. If I insert it on a blank page it works fine. What's the trick? The file is .m4a - and as I say it works fine on a blank page.

I don't know what I did different - but I started the page over (it's a photo/slideshow page). This time I used the media insert first to put the slideshow background song in position THEN I put the photos in. Actually, the order of events was 1) create the blank photo page; 2) move the photo frame down to allow lots of room to put the media in position and text block about the audio.; 3) position the text and media frames as high as practical next to page header and size them down to smallest with readability intact;4) finally, move the photos frame back p tight under the sound areas and fill the photo album.
Doing it in that order it worked fine. The first time, when I posted my question the pictures were in place and I was trying to insert the media. I tried moving the picture frame down. just as in the successful method. But, for some reason when I did it in that order, the audio controls never showed after publishing.
So the problem is solved. Now I have a new question, which I am entering separately - looping?
