Cannot get n to enable.

Ok, so I have a brand new macbook pro w 2.16 intel core duo, and a new 802.11n airport extreme base station. i have installed the new 2007001 airport update and supposedly have installed the n enabler from the disk that came with the base station. When i check my network utility in th en1 screen it just says a/b/g enabled. How on earth do I get the n enabled? I called apple support, and they said, hmmmmmmm. . . . good question. Instead of screaming I just hung up and decided to ask the experts here.

Magpie's correct. The CD portables didn't ship with 802.11n ready Airport cards.
You can verify this by following the following procedure:
Open Network Utility (found in the Applications > Utilities folder)
Under the Info Tab, choose Network Interface (en1)
In the section "Model: Wireless Network Adapter," if it says (802.11a/b/g/n), you already have the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), you do not have the 802.11n enabler installed.
You can, however, obtain an 802.11n Airport card from a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro (not MacBook) and swap out the Airport card in your Core Duo MacBook.
Mine arrived today and I should have it installed sometime tomorrow.

It seems like I cannot get GPS only to work on my ipad3 (4g version, but not on an active cell plan, and wifi off).  Is there some new requirement in 7.1 or 7.1.1 to have cell and/or wifi enabled for GPS to work? I am testing with MotionX, garmin blueChart mobile, and a GPS monitoring tool. All show no signal. If I turn on cell and wifi,  it says I get gps signal, but can't tell if that is from the GPS chip, or just from cell and wifi only (maybe with some gps mixed in)?  Any ideas on how to get iPad working with GPS only??

Roger that.  Thanks for your time.

Yes. tried the one ram stick, no go.  I have been trying to boot off/install the windows 7 disk but am unable to get to the point where windows starts installing after its gathering information portion of the install.  I can get to the disk selection screen of the install with the WD HD on SATA port 2 but then get the "cant install messages" when I try to select the Vertex 3.  Yes I can see the Vertex 3 Drive as well as the WD drive at this point.  some times I have to hit "scan" a couple of times.

I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport wi-fi to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is disabled.  What to check next?

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • I cannot get iDVD, what is the best alternative app to enable me to burn my projects to DVD?

I cannot get iDVD, what is the best alternative app to enable me to burn my iMovie projects to DVD? why do Apple think that no one needs to burn DVDs?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their new Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.

  • I cannot get scrolling to work on DV6-6172nr. The 2 finger scroll is enabled & new drivers install

I cannot get scrolling to work on DV6-6172nr.  The 2 finger scroll is enabled but doesn't work. I have downloaded the latest drivers and still no vertical scrolling.  This could be a deal breaker. I have only had this laptop for 2 days and if I can't resolve this issue, the laptop is going back to the store.  Please help.

    Hi,
First, download the latest Synaptics driver installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54483.exe
Next, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' and select Uninstall.
When this has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has fully reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click the Synaptics installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.  You may have to check that Two Finger Scrolling is enabled in the device settings tab under Mouse.
If this fails to correct the problem, I think I would agree with what you suggest yourself and simply return the notebook.
    Regards,
    DP-K

  • Cannot get xorg to work at all

Granted I have yet to try vesa, but frankly if I cannot get the fglrx driver to work then I am not interested in this distro. Following the wiki instructions has gotten me nowhere and forum searches have turned up 4 year old posts. I have installed Xorg 1.11 from the repository listed on the catalyst page. I have installed the drivers also from the repo listed on the wiki page. I have a Dell XPS 1645 with an AMD HD 5730. fglrx module is running radeon is blacklisted and is not running. nomodeset is on my kernel line. running Xorg -configure says no devices to configure. fglrxinfo says unable to open display (null). If I delete xorg.conf startx says failed to load module ati, vesa, and fbdev, and then says fatal error no screens found. If I run aticonfig --initial it creates xorg.conf, but startx still will not work. The screen will go blank like it is about to load but there is an error fglrx: no matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI :0@2:0:1) found and xinit: connection to server lost. Running Xorg -configure still states no devices to configure. I'm really hoping this is something stupid that I have missed doing, as I do want to use this distro but my time is not infinite, and ubuntu and friends are just so easy. Not like I've never run Arch or Gentoo before either. If my tone is off I'm sorry, it's 2:30 AM here and I'm tired

I also had trouble with my ATI Radeon after the upgrade and solved the problem by a revert.
For this I used (for "extra") the repository http://arm.konnichi.com/2012/03/10/extra/os/i686/
The archlinux wiki explains for "xorg" how to do reverts using such repositories ;-)
I now run upgrades like this (example as of today):
$ sudo pacman -Syuw --ignore ati-dri,libgl,xf86-input-evdev,xf86-video-ati,xf86-video-fbdev,xf86-video-vesa,xorg-server,xorg-server-common,xorg-xinput

I am trying to find the culprit. Besides xorg, I also blocked ati-dri and libgl. But they work fine on my PC.
    Thus, this is ok:
    ati-dri: package upgrade (7.11.2-1 => 8.0.1-2)
    libgl: package upgrade (7.11.2-1 => 8.0.1-2)
    In /etc/pacman.conf I entered:
    # Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup
    IgnorePkg = xorg-server-common
    IgnoreGroup = xorg

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Cannot ping local traffic and local hosts cannot get out

I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something.
Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209).
There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off.
The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue.
Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out.
Any ideas? Sanitized Config is below. Thanks !

    Hi Martin,
Which way you are trying. Sending traffic via site to site is not working or traffic which you generate to outside world is not working?
But you say ASA connected interface to PC itself is not pinging that is strange. But try setting up the specific rules for the outgoing connection and check. Instead of not having any ACL.
If it is outside world the you may need to check on the NAT rules which is not correct.
If it is site to site then you may need to check few other things.

    Aprreciate help on this.

To resolve this, you need to reconfigure the "Oracle Application Testing Suite Helper Service" (OATSHelperSvr) to start as a user who has privledges to run open script tests rather than the default SYSTEM user.
    Reconfiguring the OATSHelperSvr Service:
    1. Open the services panel (Start > Run > services.msc)
    2. Find the Oracle Application Testing Suite Helper Service
    3. Right Click > Properties then select the Log On Tab
    4. Specify an interactive user that has rights to run OpenScript (test by logging in as that user and running tests):
    5. Click OK
    6. Restart the service after dialogs are closed by Right Click > Restart
    7. You should now repeat this process for the "Oracle Application Testing Suite Agent Service" (eLoadAgentMon) Service (Two services in
    total)
You should now retry running the test in Oracle Test Manager

  • HP Smart Web Printing / IE8 / Windows Vista: Cannot get icon to appear!

I've installed HP Smart Web Printing 4.5.1 in IE8 running under Vista SP2.  I cannot get the icon to appear.  Under Tools/Manage Add-ons, "Show or Hide HP Smart Web Printing" is reported as "enabled".  When I select "Show or hide HP Smart Web Printing" under the double arrows at the far right of the tool bar, nothing happens.  I see others have had some success at getting through this, but nothing seems to be working for me.  I've tried removing and re-installing the utility to no avail.  What do I have to do?

Hey HP ...  Does anyone from HP monitor these posts and provide answers, as one might expect?  Is anyone listening?  Is anyone there?  Does anyone CARE?

  • Cannot get Win8 Pro computer run the Connect a Computer to the Server Wizard (computerconnector) of Essentials 2012

I've spent 1/2 the day trying to troubleshoot this problem and finally give up.
My client has a Windows Server 2012 Essentials server (with all updates installed - no errors in error logs nor SFC /SCANNOW).  Purchased a new Windows 8 Pro computer, which we installed all the updates from Windows Updates and are now trying to join
the domain using the "Microsoft way" (i.e.:  http://[servername]/connect).
The site comes up and it prompts us to download the software and run... so far so good, but when we get to the screen where it asks, "Type your new network user name and password" - the next screen after that we get the error, "Cannot connect
    this computer to the network...".
I've been looking at cases all day long through Microsoft and Google - all pointing to problems with the SSL on the server - that's not the problem here (as other workstations have, in the past, successfully connected and we verified today that the local
server certificate is what is the default, as it should be).
I've tried just about everything I can think of and cannot get this silly wizard to work (why Microsoft, WHY!??!?!).  Yet, I can join this domain just fine doing it through normal means.  I've even tried joining the domain this way, and tried installing
the software afterwards (as the Essentials Console won't reflect the new workstation, thus it won't add it to group policies etc... though yes, I could manually do that and have - but we'd still like to get it to show up in the console).  I even
tried the trick noted in a KB talking about running the connect software without joining the domain (registry key that gets added) - that didn't work either.
I'm out of ideas - and at this point had to get the client online and working today - so we joined it manually, configured it and left it.  But I would like to get this fixed the "proper" way.  Help?
I do have the clientdeploy.log file - which only points out an internal error, but I'm unsure how to enable the improved logging it suggests (I'll gladly post the logs if someone tells me how - I'll skip posting the log file here for now):
    [1544] 140204.203620.0794: ClientSetup: MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus had errors: ErrorCatalog:NetworkError ErrorCode:-1
BaseException: Microsoft.WindowsServerSolutions.Devices.Identity.MachineIdentityException: MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error.  For more
information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the <serviceDebug> configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on
tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs.
Suggestions?  Thoughts?  I hope Essentials 2012 R2 improves this - as I've had this error for other various reasons with other clients (and spent 1/2 days troubleshooting to clear those up).  Essentials Connect, IMHO, needs a re-write - as
it's been nothing but a hassle... miss the SBS connect.

    Hi slemay,
Before going further, please uninstall the Connector software from Control panel. Then connect again, will
the same issue persists? Would you please use another client to connect with the Server 2012 Essentials by using this way? Then monitor the result. Please make sure the computer has a physical connection to the local network.
Please refer to the TechNet article (Here)
and troubleshoot, then check if can help you to solve it.
In addition, please refer to the following articles and enable
WCF tracing to go further. Please check if you can find some clues.
    How to enable WCF tracing

  • WRT610N - Cannot Get 5GHz Radio to Work

I have a WRT610N (firmware 1.00.00 B18), and I cannot get the 5GHz wireless radio to work under any mode (Mixed, A-Only, or N-Only). 2.4GHz radio works fine on all modes.
As far as I can tell, the 5GHz radio isn't even coming online. Settings are:
    Wireless Configuration: Manual
    5GHz Wireless Settings:
    Network Mode: Mixed / A-Only / N-Only *
    SSID: linksys-test
Radio Band: Auto / Standard / Wide **
    Wide Channel: Auto (DFS) ***
    Standard Channel: Auto (DFS) ***
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
    2.4GHz Wireless Settings (Disabled)
    * Tried all different network modes
** Tried standard for .11a and both standard and wide for .11n
*** Tried leaving on Auto, as well as forcing channels to 38, 46, 151, 159 (for wide) and 36, 40, 44, 149, 153 (for standard)
Tried with several different clients (MacBook Pro, various Dell and Lenovo laptop PCs), and none of them can detect anything at 5GHz from the WRT610N. All the clients are known to be working, as they are able to see other 802.11a and 802.11n (5GHz) wireless networks on other routers I'm testing (Apple Airport Extreme and D-Link Xtreme-N).
Could it be I have a broken WRT610N? Or is there some other setting needed to activate the 5GHz radio?
    Thanks.

Why do you think that your 5GHz isn't coming online? Not all devices can connect to the 5GHz BAND. So if your trying to SEARCH for your 5GHz network and it's not showing up in the list along with your 2.4GHz network then perhaps your device doesn't support the 5GHz band.
For example, on a PS3 if you try to search for a wireless network, a PS3 will only find the 2.4GHz network because the card inside the PS3 doesn't support the 5GHz band.

  • I cannot get my iPhone 4S to show up in iTunes. (tried EVERYTHING!!)

Well, I've read countless threads about this.
However, NONE (and I repeat NONE) of those other options (ie: UpperFilter, reinstall, restart service, et al) are working for me.  I am on my 6th reinstall

Let me say, too, I *HATE* this newer version of iTunes.. (ok, that felt better!!)
I'm using Win7 system, everything is enabled.  iPhone shows up in My Computer but NOT iTunes.
Please assist..  (oh, and please do not refer me to other threads..especially those pertaining to methods I've already tried and addressed).  Thanks.
