Cannot get previous music onto itunes

I just got an new iMac. I previously had a windows 8 PC. I am struggling to get iTunes on the iMac to link with the music files loaded from a back up device. Two questions:-
1) how do I get my new iTunes to regencies the music files loaded onto my iMac?
2) all this music is on my iPad Air. Can you transfer music from an iPad to iTunes?

I've tried the steps you outlined but it's just not happening. In particular Part 5 where I copied my iTunes folder from my back-up device to my new iMac at Users/me/music, which I have linked to my Preferences in iTunes. When linking the Preferences a new folder entitled "attach all to ITunes" is created. A couple of questions:-
1) Should I drop the iTunes after Music or the new folder?
2) do I need to clean up my backed up iTunes folder, as the music files sit down the path at ...iTunes/iTunes media/iTunes music/(then artists)
3) my iTunes folders also seems to include a number of other files, including old backups. Should I strip these out?
Appreciate your help. If you cannot any ideas where might go?

TS1967 i cannot get my music in itunes to download into my phone after my update

I updated my phone. But it took everything from icloud to add to my phone again but it will not sync my music and playlists. But when I go to "On this phone" it shows my playlists as if they are on my cell. Yet when i goto "music" on my cell, it says no content. HELP!

They are not all on iTunes, I copied some over from my old Droid device when I bought the Nano,. It was my understanding that there isn't a way to get those into iTunes. Does having initially setup the Nano on a Windows machine have anything to do wish this? I've switched to a Mac mini as the Windows machine is on life support. I never had issues downloading from the Windows pc.

Cannot get my music onto iCloud

I have signed up for iCloud my pictures are uploaded to iCloud and documents work nicely in iCloud between my devices but my iTunes does not upload to iCloud. Behind every song in iTunes it has the iCloud logo followed by waiting...
When I look in iTunes>Store I do not see "turn on iMatch".
I have looked for hours now at settings etc. is there anybody out there that can give me a hint of what I am doing wrong.....

Thank you Roger, but iTunes in ICloud is that only in the States as well? All my songs in iTunes have a logo of a cloud and beside the iCloud logo it says "waiting". What is it waiting for?

Upgraded to itouch 4thgen but cannot import previous playlist onto it

Hello, I had an old ipod nano and upgraded to the itouch 4th gen. I have downloaded apps/music etc via itouch from iTunes easily however, although I can see my previous exstensive playlists from old ipod on computer/iTunes account but I just cannot get the music onto the new ipod, what am I doing wrong?? :-( I'm not a techno expert so can anyone help. I just tried loading some WAV files from ProTools and they all seem to work fine for me. I tried a set of dual mono 24-bit, 48K WAV files and an interleaved, stereo 24-bit, 48K WAV file. These had all been bounced to disk using a ProTools 7.1 rig.
If you drag the file onto the app itself or onto the Soundtrack Pro icon on the dock, you'll open that file in the audio waveform editor, not the multitrack.
If you open Soundtrack Pro, by default it should come up with an empty multitrack project (unless you've changed the preferences). You should be able to use the Browser to navigate to your WAV files, and simply drag them onto a track on the multitrack timeline.
I've just tried all of the operations that I'm describing with .WAV files from ProTools, and all is good. I'm using STP 1.1 on a MacBook Pro.

Once you have successfully done that you can go ahead and choose Erase and Sync when you plug your iPod in.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

You might consider itunes match for moving CDs you've copied into your itunes library if you dont have a way to use home sharing.
iTunes match is an optional service offered by apple that costs about $25 a year. It scans your music library and if it finds music that is already in apple's itunes catalog it'll automatically "unlock"/"store" these in the cloud for you. Items that it does not find in the catalog it'll upload and store these in the cloud for you and you can download them on your devices. See http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

Thanks for all of your help. Took the old girl in to a techie at London Drugs and my HD had failed, simple mechanical failure after 5 years of useful service. They mentioned that it was a pretty massive failure as they were unable to extract ANY information whatsoever. For those of you wondering what the warning signs were: slowing down of all processes, especially opening applications; freezing up when running an internet applcation and browsing at the same time; occasional starting up with a flashing folder with the dreaded ? (which would restart the first few times once I disconnected all peripherals, including the keyboard); finally full failure with only a white screen showing upon start up.
I am getting a new HD, will reinstall from Time Machine and there will be peace in the valley.

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet. It's not designed to. if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2. Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

if nothing else you can also go into the atv's settings and remove the bound with your computer and set it up again and start over with the sync
or if you havent tried it click on the atv in itunes on the computer and click sync

I had the same problem and the fix was so easy that I felt a little silly after spending 2 hours with an Apple Technician. At the end of it all, what I had to do was make sure ALL music was deleted from my iPhone 5 by going into usage and clearing out the music folder. All I had to do then was turn my phone off and turn it back on again. I had not done this after my phone upgraded to the new 7.0 IOS. What's the first thing you do when experiencing computer problems? Reboot! It fixed my problem and now my iPhone 5 synchs perfectly when I had it connected to my computer. I am also on iTunes version 11.1.

We are trying to move our music library stored on the Mac to a second ipad. We have already set up the second ipad and are only interested in getting select music onto the second ipad. When we plug the ipad into the imac and connect to iturnes it wants to set up or restore the second ipad. We're afraid if we do this it will remove all current information on the second ipad. Thanks
