Cannot Get Remote to Connect to Library

Question

I am trying to get the Remote app to work with iTunes on my iMac. I keep getting a box pop up on the iPhone that says "Remote could not connect to your library." and then it goes on to say a few lines about firewalls, but I am not using any. I have checked the wifi IP address listed in settings on the iPhone and it is different than the one listed in Preferences/Network/Advanced/TCP/IP.
I suspect that if I could get the IP addresses to match I would be able to use the Remote on the iPhone, but I have no idea how to change the addresses and what might happen to my wireless connections if I did. There are all these options like DCHP, BootP and Static and I don't know which to even attempt to go into to alter.
Any insight to this problem would be appreciated.

Hi SwellMax,
I think you seem to be on the right track here, however you don't want the IPs on your iPhone and Mac to match exactly. This would be an IP conflict.
What you do want is those IPs to be in the same subnet. Really this means be on the same logical network, regardless of how the network is built.
Let's do this test:
1. Have a look at the IP address on both the iPhone and Mac. Hopefully the first few set of numbers (octets) will match. Example: in my case, my Mac is 192.168.0.100 and my iPhone is 192.168.0.107. The "192.168.0." part matches. If they don't match this is likely the problem!
If they do match, we'll make some assumptions here and jump to testing connectivity.
2. Open the Terminal application on the Mac.
3. While your iPhone is awake, type in the following (without quotes and replace the IP): "+ping <my iPhone's IP address>+"
in my case, the above command would look like "+ping 192.168.0.107+"
if you are contacting the iPhone you'll see something like "+64 bytes from 192.168.0.107: icmp_seq=30 ttl=64 time=597.941 ms+"
If you are not contacting the iPhone you'll see something like "+Request timeout for icmp_seq 19+"
NOTE: btw... the ping will go on forever until you hit the key combination control+C on your keyboard
If the above works, then likely your network connection is OK, and there is something else, not your network. Make sure the iPhone is awake and the screen is lit when doing this test! I noticed my iPhone won't respond to pings if the screen goes dark.
