Cannot get rid of "google updater" & I did not install it.

Firefox 3.6.10. called Google Update 1.2.183.23. I went through the troubleshooting for uninstalling plugins but google is not listed in about:config (nor almost ALL my other ones). I deleted profile.dat but all that did was enable all plugins that are listed & that I had disabled. I did not install this plugin-google update either. WIN xp srv pk3

I'm not seeing Google Update in your above posted system details.<br />
Did you disable that plugin?
You can use this method to see the location of that plugin.<br />

I wanted to give privoxy a try. For starters, I'd like to do some adblocking, so I followed the wiki instructions for adblocking with privoxy. In particular, I used the privoxy-blocklist script the wiki mentions to download and use the following adblock lists:

easyprivacy
fanboy-annoyance
fanboy-social
fanboy-antifacebook
malwaredomains_full
void-gr-filters (for ads in Greek sites)
Also, again as per the wiki, I added

Textual ads are harder to get rid of - this is where greasemonkey is useful.
Thanks.. Though adblock plus would get rid of those. Also I wonder if installing privoxy and greasemonkey
slows down my firefox.. All in all, for ad blocking, I'm thinking of going back to adblock plus.

I want to use Firefox but I can't stand the new Google, even when I select Bing as my search engine Google comes up on my home page. I will not use Firefox if I cannot get rid of Google

Ever since the "improved Google" came out I hear a constant irregular clicking in the background as if Google is updating or checking Data. I cannot stand their new format either, giving me junk advertising that I did not want or ask for. I was a huge Google fan before they really started going for maximum profits now I just want them out of my browser. I tried Opera but like Firefox much better, except for the fact that I cannot extract Google from the home page no matter what I do, it apperas to be in the registry too.

It is known as newsstand and is a part of iOS.
It is per installed and cannot be removed. Just ignore it as it does not take a lot of memory. It is just a folder.

Cannot get Download Assistant to stop, Acrobat did not load, need to try again

For 15 hours the Download Assistant has been trying to load Acrobat XI Pro Mac. Under the status bar is the message "Extracting...this might take a while". Also, a warning message appeared during download stating, "The following disk images couldn't be opened"; (Image) AcrobatPro_11_Web_W, (Reason) error -4960. How do I get Download assistant to quit so I can reload the Acrobat download?

Need to get rid of iTunes update but can't install earlier version

I'm having the same problem many other people are - I installed iTunes 7.4.2 but my computer is running OS X 10.4.5. I've tried to reinstall earlier versions, but the when I go to install it tells me there's nothing to install - there's no application under the .dmg download.
I'm sure this is extremely elementary to everyone but I'd appreciate any help you all can lend. I can't upgrade my OS X because this is a work computer and I'd like to stay away from the wrath of IT. Thanks.

Use Pacifist to extract iTunes and the iTunes support files from the earlier installer or the Mac OS X installation disks, whichever is newer.

Shut down and remove that media.
Download and install 10.5.8 combo from here:

Repair permissions from Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> First Aid, and selecting the hard drive.
You should now be able to use Software Update for any updates that work with 10.5.8 PowerPC. Any that only work with Intel macs, you'll need a newer Mac.

This has been a problem for 6 weeks now, I retry when I have time and patience and use my other laptop which is also Windows 7 and runs with no problem.
Every attempt fails when all seems fine on the desktop and I try to log on to Itunes I get the errors.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (If this won't uninstall press on)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store notice. For example, if the App Store says you need to update "Twitter," the hacked app may be "Angry Birds" or something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you have to carry out a systematic search.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

After repairing and rebuilding the iPhoto libary/database, I attempted to rebuild the thumbnails on an older Mac Book (10.7.5) and iPhoto 9.0. you need a minimum of 10GB of free space just for normal os - with little or none y0u risk damaging yoru iPhoto database and other important system components - you must make space immediately
Exporting photos is not the solution - unless you can delete some large files that are not needed The fastest way is to purchase an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended and move your iPhtoo library to it -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
I would not put my iphoto library on a flash drive - and usually they are not formated correctly wso will nto even work

All my text in Google and all emails in Gmail is bold text and I cannot get ride of it. Tried to uninstall and re-install without success

The Goggle Seach and Gmail text is always bold. This happened as part of upgrade to Firefox 6.0 and the 6.01 upgrade did not help.
Strangle this webpage present the text in a proper way and not bold.
I tried to change the settings but cannot get it to work. It is not zoomed in or out (I tried that) and Windows is up to date (Windows 7).

With an ATI graphics card like the OP of this thread has a possible cause and solution is to disable "Morphological Filtering" in the Catalyst display driver.
