Cannot get Samsung ML1740 to print wirelessly

Hi everyone,
Am new to the Apple. I have a Dell PC running Vista with my Samsung ML1740 printer attached via USB. I have a router and wireless network. I have a MacBook Pro and would like to be able to print wirelessly through my network. Right now I can print if I use the USB port. How can I go about doing this? If you can walk me through the process it will be appreciated.

The following is several steps you can follow. Note that I have made the assumption that you already have your MacBook Pro connected via wireless to the same network as the Dell. If this is not the case then please reply.
First thing you will need to do is share the printer in Vista and keep the share name to something short and preferably without spaces, such as ML1740. You should also check that the Guest account is enabled, as you will be asked to authenticate when you connect to the share from the Mac.
With the printer shared you can then open System Preferences > Print & Fax on the Mac and click the + to add a queue. With the new window that appears you will see several icons, such as Default, Fax, IP and Windows. Select the Windows icon. This will show a window with three columns. The first column will show the workgroup names of the computers on the same network as the Mac. If you don't see any workgroup names then you don't have the Mac on the same network as the Dell. If you do see the workgroup name then select it and this will show the Dell computer name in the next column. When you select the Dell's name you will get prompted to authenticate. Select Guest and OK. This should now make the shared name appear in the third column. Select this and see what the Print Using menu does. This could be the last problem as many vendors printer drivers are written for direct connections only - not for connecting via Windows shares. So if you do select the ML1740 in the Print Using menu but find you cannot print then the problem is most likely due to the driver. See how you go with the above and if you get stuck at any point then please reply.

I have tried to get my computer to print wireless with the HP6600. I have tried all the trouble shooting things and still does not work. The printer is contected to the wireless network. I can print from my phone and Ipad fine without a problem.

@ minipinny26 - When you downloaded the drivers and attempted to install the software I am guessing the software could not find the printer. Is this correct?
If so, then did you try a power cycle on the circuit?
* Unplug router and wait 30 seconds
* Plug router back in and wait for it to completely repower up
* Restart the PC
* While the PC is restarting: Unplug the printer while the unit is on
* Wait 30 seconds and plug the printer back up for power
Can the software find the printer at this point?
If not, then can you ping the printer?
* Open the Command Prompt screen by typing CMD in the Run command box
* Type ping followed by the ip address of the printer.
Also, take a look at the steps in the document found here. Let me know what happens.

Is your printer listed on this page as supporting AirPrint : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 ?
If it doesn't support AirPrint then you could see if the printer manufacturer has their own app in the store which supports it (e.g. Epson have an iPrint app, and HP have an ePrint app). If not then there are third-party printer apps such as Print n Share and PrintCentral Pro which might work with it

Cannot get pdf file to print actual size

I recently had to reinstall my printer and now when printing PDF files I cannot get the page to print in full size. This is necessary because I am printing a pattern and the size has to be accurate. I am not even given the option anymore to be able to do this. I did have the option before the reinstall. BTW the reinstall is because the computer crashed and I had to take back to factory settings. I appreciate any help given. Thanks.

Assuming you have installed the Full Feature Software for the printer
and
Assuming that you have at least a recent version of Adobe Reader or Adobe software installed so you can download and open PDF files,
then
it may only be that the PDF print setup needs to be adjusted for the file prior to printing

Cannot get ipad, iphones to print using wireless on Photosmart estation e510

I have a photosmart estation e-510 and I am trying to get my assorted ipads, iphones to print wireless using this printer.
I have downloaded the iprint apps, and I have the wireless feature working on the printer. The Apple products will not recognize the printer. i am using a Cisco dual band router.
I have searched on the forums,on HP website no help.

Let's start with a restart of the router. Pull its power plug for a few seconds, plug back in and wait for it to start up.
If that does not do it, restart your printer and your iOS devices. Make sure all devices have the lastest firmware.

Cannot get computer to discover printer

Okay so a couple weeks ago I got an HP Officejet pro plus 8600 and have been having connectivity problems.
a bit of background
I have a macbook pro running 10.7.5
and a belkin n150 router
we also have an older desktop mac running snow leopard
Okay so from the beginning I was having problems getting the printer to actually print wirelessly. I was able to discover the printer by adding it to the print & scan under default. However at the time which was a few weeks ago it would give me the error message that it was offline and wouldn't print. Now heres the tricky part. I did something dealing with IP address that was recomended to me on an HP forum and it worked! That day I was able to print no problem.
A week later I open up my macbook and attempt to print and I am getting the same problem i.e. when I looked at the print que:
1. Menu says "looking for printer"
2. Menu says printing job 1% complete, barber pole scrolls
3. Menu says printer not responding
so I looked online for what to do.
I went to HP and followed the instructions from the link below.

Because it seems that the printer is connecting to the wifi, I deleted the printer from the que and restarted my computer. I then did a power reset on the printer.
Ever since I deleted the printer from the que I have not been able to discover anything at all when I click the + in the print and fax menu.

Thanks for replying. Just to claify, when we try to connect the iPod to the computer via usb, when using the usb cable that came with the iPod, nothing at all transpires. I check and the computer does not recognize the device. When using another usb cable she purchased locally, we get the notice that the device cannot be loaded. It will be a day or two before I get down to them, so just wanted to run this by you. In the meantime, I will try your suggestions.

I cannot get my iphone to print on 8500 officejet.

Just bought an Office Pro 8500A got it all set up but, cannot get my IPhone to find the printer. I have turn off the bluetooth, loaded the lastest software on the IPhone, turned off and on the printer, router, phone, and reset the WEP secure code on the printer for my wireles router. My compac laptop print wireless. Lost.

What router? Do not use WEP, it is not in the least secure. Switch your security to WPA with a 13+ character password.

I can't get my iMac to print wirelessly...

I have a 2009 intel-based iMac and a g5 IMac that connect to the internet via a wireless N+ Belkin router. I have two HP printers (a 2605 color laserjet and an 6500 officejet) connected with an ethernet cable to the router.
The g5 machine quickly identified both printers as "Internet printers" so I added them and was able to print wirelessly to both printers.
The newer iMac g5 prints wirelessly to the officejet, but does not "see" the laserjet as an internet printer (only as a "bonjour shared" type printer). I have tried everything, including setting up the printer manually by entering its IP address, and I can add the printer this way but I won't print.
If I select and add the laserjet printer under "Bonjour Shared" kind, it is unable to print (I either get a message that says "connecting to printer", which can last for hours, or I get a message indicating "Job accepted" but still nothing prints).
Before I switched Internet providers, both Macs could print wirelessly to both printers (I recently switched from a DSL provider to a cable provider, and then back to my old DSL provider).
Any help would be appreciated - very flustering!!

I connected a small photo printer to the router's USB cable and somehow this allowed for the iMac to once more see the HP Colorlaserjet as an IP printer. I happily tried adding it however, I get an error message indicating that the software is currently unavailable.
I still have the installation CD that came with the Colorlaserjet printer and I re-installed it last week so am unclear as to why this happens. I also tried downloading it from the Apple website but not luck either. I tried uninstalling the software (maybe this is the problem), but I can't seem to find the files in Finder (the manual recommends finding and deleting all PPD files, but must admit don't know how to search for these)
So I'm closer but still unable to print... hence my nickname...

Canon MX860 get error 300 when printing wirelessly from MacBook Pro

I've been printing wirelessly for several years and most recently after an upgrade to OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite it was printing fine until this morning. Something changed and I get error 300 when I try to print. If I connect my MacBook to the Canon MX860 printer using the USB cord it prints fine so I'm assuming it's some sort of wireless connection issue. I powered down and up both the printer and the Macbook and still get the error. I tried the "Reset Printer System" from the System Preferences and now I can't add the printer back in. I tried using the CD that came with the printer to reinstall the wireless connection and the set-up program says it's incompatible with my operating system and refuses to run. Any assistance to help me print wirelessly again would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

After further investigation, we believe this is due to an intermittent modem problem and is not the fault of the printer or MacBook.

What error messages? What router? What operating system? Is the printer connected to the router (print a Network Test from the Setup > Network menu on the front of the printer)?

HELP: MacBook cannot get IP from DHCP wired/wireless

Hi, everyone.
I recently bought a TP-LINK TL-WR340G route and added it into my home network.
My iBook and PCs are albe to connect to network and internet, but my MacBook even cannot get a IP from the DHCP. I tried both wired & wireless connection.
I've tried to give my MacBook a static IP address, after that it can ping to the gateway and other devices on the network, and the DNS is working fine. But the MacBook just cannot connect to internet.
My MacBook can connect to internet at my office and my relative's house.
Please help to fix the problem. Thanks a lot.

What is the device type?
I have seen this with 4 android 5 devices. I think its something to due with misconfig on android and mfp settings. Although I'm not sure why I have hundreds of other android 5 devices working ok. I see this same when I debug one of the devices that is stuck in DHCP_REQ

Netgear DGND3300 Router and HP C4780 cant get set up to print wireless

Ok I've read just about every networking post and cant solve my issue.
History: I recently upgraded from a 2Wire DSL router/modem to the new Netgear dual band 3300.
After I made the change, I went through all the reinstalls and network configurations and all worked great.
Then one day while working from home the printer stopped printing wireless for both the Apple Laptop and my Lenovo laptop.
So I uninstall all the HP software from my Lenovo and reinstall, go through all the steps plugging in the USB cable from the printer. I locate the correct SSID and enter the WEP on the HP printer install.
This is where I lose it, in the printer set up a this point it tells me the SSID on the printer and the machine have different SSID. I know they are both on the same network as I confirm on my wireless setting on the Lenovo and when going through step by step on the printer install.
I read where you can log into the printer with the IP address to edit settings. so I print the HP Network configuration page, it gives me the IP address. when I try to log onto the IP it does not take me to the printer....it goes to some google page.
I'm no tech but this isnt my first rodeo. Any help would be greatly apprecaited, this is day 3 on my own. Need the big guns.

OK, here are a few ideas:
1. Don't use WEP. It is not secure and can cause connectivity problems. Use WPA or WPA2
2. Make sure that 802.11g is available. 802.11n and others can also be available, but g must be present.
3. Broadcast your SSID and do not use MAC filtering.
4. Make sure the firmware in your router is up to date.

Make sure BT is turned off on any other devices that use the speakers, put them in pairing mode and try again.
