Cannot get symbolic link to work in maverick

i have a symbolic link of my contacts to a removeable hd where the data is kept -- symbolic link to the directory addressbook.
this way, i am able to sync to one source whether i am on my work macpro or home macbook. this method has worked since mountain lion, but no longer works after upgrading to maverick. contact opens with no data -- not a single contact name, zilch, nothing.
is there anything i need to do so maverick and "see" this symbolic link? why is it not working? (i did same with calendar and 3rd-party mail, and those still work). quite puzzling.

Cannot get Apple Mail to work on Mavericks - Synching not working intermittently with Gmail account

Like many others, I am having issues with Apple Mail on Mavericks. I have a gmail account and an account that uses IMAP on godaddy domain. When I do things on my Macbook, they are more or less OK although sometimes there is a delay when deleting mail and having it synch up with my other devices. However, if I go to my iphone and go thru my mail and then go to my macbook in the evening, i am finding that all of my mail is showing up like I never looked at it before. All mail is showing up unread, deleted e-mails are in my inbox, etc. I installed the mavericks update for mail last week, and still things are not working. I really need some help in resolving this issue. I expect this kind of stuff from Windows OS upgrades...not Apple

I have windows XP, firefox 5 and cannot get "send link" to work in the file menu or the right click menu.

I cannot get annotation link to work

I have a document that I created with apple word, included the links, saved it as a PDF.
The links no longer work in the PDF format (which I see is a problem for others)
I tried the "add a text link" directions in help.
1) the window does not always pop up when I click "link" to choose either page or URL and to type in my URL
2) if it does, I will delete the default "apple.com" and put in the URL of the link I want. It DEFAULTS back to the apple.com URL. I DONT KNOW WHY? So when I click on it it takes me to the apple.com website.
it doesn't seem to save for some reason??

Ok, Maybe give resetting the device a try and see if that does anything. Hold the Home And Power buttons down (Ignoring the Slide To Shut Down). Just keep holding the two buttons until your device restarts. Let me know if it is still not working.

Cannot get screen sharing to work long distance...

I set up an AIM account for my mother-in-law so that I could remote screen-share her MacBook and help her with learning how to use it and trouble shoot it (it's a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook hand-me-down from my wife).
I've set up the account, but cannot get remote screen sharing working. Screen sharing works fine over bonjour, but no go over the internet using AIM. I can control my wife's MBA from my iMac and vice-versa, but neither of us can control her MacBook. When we choose "Ask to share users screen...", we get the pop up window stating "Waiting for response from user", along with the spinning gear icon. If she chooses "Share my screen with...", the pop up window appears on our Macs and we're able to choose accept. But then the pop up window switches to "User would like you to share his or her screen" and just sits there. Nothing happens. On her screen, she gets the message "waiting for response from user" and nothing else happens.
After a long wait, my screen will say, "There was a communication error during your chat. Messages didn't receive a response from..." and gives me the option to report the details to Apple.
What am I doing wrong?
Her MacBook is running Mavericks, as are our machines.

Hi,
@mac.com and @me.com ID works as AIM Screen Names (you add them like they are and existing name) but only if you are using Messages 7 or 8 plus later versions of iChat 6 in Lion.
You should be able to use the Apple Issued IDs in Mavericks.
If you using an AIM Registered name try using it without the @AIM.com or @AOL.com suffix (User Name only)
As AIM can "read" the Apple Database it will think the Apple IDs exist already but may not tell you that is the reason you can't re-register them.
Can you post the info being sent to Apple here ?
However stop the log after about 10 lines of the Binary Images (I will not need it all).

I determined it has to do with motion and tablets. I placed slideshow on sub page and it viewed. I had scroll effects on home page and it does not work on tablets. You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion. This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it. I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date. It is usually correct, to within a few weeks. A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.

I would delete the account and try to re-enter it. Also, you have to let your firm's IT department know that you want to sync work email on your personal devices before they actually work.

Yes. tried the one ram stick, no go. I have been trying to boot off/install the windows 7 disk but am unable to get to the point where windows starts installing after its gathering information portion of the install. I can get to the disk selection screen of the install with the WD HD on SATA port 2 but then get the "cant install messages" when I try to select the Vertex 3. Yes I can see the Vertex 3 Drive as well as the WD drive at this point. some times I have to hit "scan" a couple of times.
