Cannot get windows update to run after hard drive install and recovery

I cannot get windows update to run after a new shdd 1 tb was installed.
I have a pavilion dv7 4083cl. My recovery set did not work so I used the OEM set.
Any help would be appreciated

Hello kjdsynz,
Have you taken a look at the HD & SSD manual?  Did the recovery fail?  If you take a look at this page for help with that.
Please let me know if this has helped.
Good luck!

I am having sporadic issues after new hard drive install and recovery using Time Machine. The same sluggish response, start up screen pixelating...If I reinstall Lion will it wipe out other applications? My HD was formatted and partitioned correctly, I have a late 2009 iMac.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I cannot get windows updater to activate

I cannot get windows updater to activate

    Hi,
Before we go further in this issue, I would like to confirm what you mean by "I cannot get windows updater to activate".
Please let us know more details of it as Andreas Molin and Arnav Sharma mentioned.
Do you mean you cannot get Windows Update to run, you may try the following steps:
    1. Check Windows Update service's running status, make sure it is automatic. If not, change and start it. Please check the below mentioned services:
     a. Background Intelligent Transfer Service
     b. Cryptographic service
     c. Windows Update
    2. Your antivirus software may be conflicting with Windows Updates. You can test this by temporarily disabling your antivirus:
    Disable Anti-virus software:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software
    3. Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us
Also, you may follow the steps from the link below to fix the issue.

  • Had a new hard drive installed and want to move book marks to new drive

I had a new hard drive installed and want to move my book marks from the old HD to the new HD
Not sure how to access the FireFox book marks on the old HD and how to install them in the FireFox on the new drive

See [[recovering important data from an old profile]] in particular the section "Copying files between profile folders" and the one below it that describes the files in the profile folder.
The article shows how to find your current profile folder, you will need to find the equivalent folder on the old drive, the path to the current profile folder should show you where to look on the old HD for the old profile folder. The actual folder name for the profile folder will be different, but the path to it should be the same.

Help, just got a new hard drive installed and now my videos in iPhoto say, "a necessary data reference could not be found"

Not sure what happened but I was able to click on the movie, go to File then Reveal in Finder, then drag it to my desktop and then drag it back into iPhoto and it worked.

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

  • My Mid 2009 Macbook pro (Just purchased) will not turn on after hard drive change and ram upgrade

So i purchased a mid 2009 Macbook Pro from a guy with 4 gb of ram and 250gb hard drive. It worked perfectly fine when i booted it with his hard drive and ram installed.
I spilled beer in my old computer (late 2009 15" 500gb hard drive and 8gb ram) but took the hard drive to get tested and it worked fine. i later found out it was from a 2010.
Like an idiot i assumed the pro i just purchased would be able to handle the same upgrades that were in my old computer so i threw in the 500gb hard drive (2010) and the 8gb of ram.
The thing booted up fine, just a bit slow which i chalked up to my hard drive sitting unplugged for a long time.
After about 3 minutes it crashed on me. Confused i replaced the 4gb of original ram back into it. (the 8gb ram was pny i bought from ebay so i thought it could be that) It decided not to turn on or show any lights on the front except for the battery meter.
After this i replaced the original hard drive and still NO LUCK!! im really mad because i am in desperate need of the information on my original 500gb hard drive and im afraid i have destroyed 2 computers and about $1K worth of cash out the window.
HELP please enlighten me on what i have done and if the situation can be fixed.

UPDATE: Problem solved with the old hard drive in it, Now the less pressing issue:
Will the computer run my 500gb hard drive with all my information on it? I need to forward a resume and it is on that hard drive.

  • HT1349 I had to get a new computer as my hard drive went and lost everything. How do I get my itunes library back?

I had to get a needed to get a new computer as my hard drive died. How do I geatr my ituens library of songs back?

The easy way is from the backup you make of your computer so in case something happens you don't lose anything.
You can download some media files purchased from Apple:
Downloading (using iOS or computer) past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not all media formats are available in all countries (see: iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085); apps, books (not audiobooks), music, t.v. shows, and movies (some - not all studios have permitted this).  Downloading previously purchased movies and TV shows requires iTunes 10.6 or later.  Discontinued items not available. For items not included in the iCloud list (e.g., ringtones), or locations or computer systems where iCloud is not (yet?) available, you only get one download per fee paid.  Apple notes it is your responsibility to back up your purchases.
Select the store on the left side of iTunes.
Click on Purchased on the right side under Quick Links.
You can re-download your available previous purchases.
This will not reconstruct your library as it was.  It just puts the media back.  You will have to do playlists, ratings, etc.  If you have music from another source you will have to get it from there again.

  • Rebuilding library after hard drive crash AND sound quality of iPod files?

    Hi all,
I had a hard drive crash and hadn't done a back-up in awhile. My iPod was up-to-date though. I used third-party software to grab the music off the iPod. So now I a good portion of my library back up to another hard drive AND the entire library pulled off my iPod. Should I just direct iTunes to the files I pulled off the iPod or direct it to the backup and add the missing files from my iPod files? Clear as mud?
Also what will be the sound quality of the files I pulled from the iPod?

If you copied the files from the iPod to a folder on your computer then open iTunes and go to File>Add Folder to library and add the songs back into iTunes (or simply drag the folder from it's location to the iTunes Source pane, - the long pane on the left. They should sound fine since they are simply copies of the originals. Before you add them check your iTunes preferences, go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced and make sure the boc "Copt files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" is checked.

  • Mac OS 8.6 Cursor Frozen after print driver install and restart.

Installed Epson SC 980 Print driver on Mac OS 8.6.  After install, I was prompted to restart the computer.  Upon restart the window that contained the "Installer" button remains onscreen and the cursor is frozen.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

Strange. Starting up with Extensions Off is supposed to prevent most extensions, including all 3rd-party software, and anything in the Startup Items folder from loading.
Can you tell if it is an app itself which is running? Or is it a window for a disk image or something similar?
You can also try resetting the PRAM while booting with Extension Off, just in case some non-valid instruction got set in PRAM (that should be a no-no for software, but mistakes do happen).
To do that, restart or boot. Immediately press the Command-Option-P-R keys, keep them held down until you've heard a total of three sets of startup chimes. Then release those keys and hold down Shift, keeping it held down until the desktop appears. If you have control over the machine then, you can do some hunting for the Epson software that's causing the issue and get rid of it.
Next level of user control to try is booting to a CD. If you have an OS Install CD, such as one for OS 8.6, which is valid for that machine, try booting the machine to the CD. This should render any software on the hard drive inert, and thus give you an opportunity to hunt the culprit down and remove it.

  • Windows 7 64-bit update won't run after hard drive replacement HP G62-144DX

Replaced hard drive, ran recovery discs, everything OK except that windows 7 64-bit would not update. Services showed windows update to be running, but update gave error message: service not started. Reinstalled old hard drive which before all tests had showed drive to be defective and tried again, this time all ran Ok and windows update ran. This time all tests showed the orginal hard drive to be OK.

    Hello jzerener,
Is there a question in here somewhere?  I'm happy everything is working again, but I certainly can't explain why you encountered these results as you updated.
    Thank you for sharing.

  • New Mac Pro - Best way to get Windows XP on 2nd Internal Hard Drive?

After 16 years, I'm back to a Mac. I picked up a second hard drive for my Mac Pro that I have not installed yet and would like to solely dedicate this drive to running XP Pro. What is the best way to do this please? Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome to Discussions and also welcome back
for running Windows XP you can use the BootCamp Assistant which is part of OSX Leopard (in the Applications/Utilities Folder).
Print out the Installation Guide found either inside the BC Assistant or from here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ and follow it to the letter.
While maybe not neccessary but advisable, make a backup of your OSX volume.
The BC Assistant gives you the choice to use a secondary harddisk fully for installing Windows (page 7 of the guide).
Make sure that during installation of Windows you re-format the destination with the Windows Installer (page 9+10 of the guide).
Also be aware that with XP you can only use the 32-bit version, since the 64-bit XP version is not supported.
Only with Vista you can use the 64-bit versions, when you have a 2008 or later model of the Mac Pro.
Once you have installed your XP, insert the OSX Leopard DVD while in Windows in order to install the BootCamp Drivers.
And download the appropriate BC Update 2.1 from here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/
Other possibilities to run Windows on a Mac are the Virtualization apps like Parallels, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox.
    http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/
    http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
    http://www.virtualbox.org/
And the specialty Crossover Mac http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
When running Windows on a Mac be sure to use a decent Anti-Virus solution.
    Hope it helps

  • How do you get Windows 7 to recognise AE Hard drive?

I have an AirPort Extreme with an external hard drive in HFS+ format. I can access it fine on My MacBook Pro, but Windows doesn't recognise it.
I don't know how to use Windows 7, can anyone tell me how to get the hard drive recognised on it?
    Thank you =)

    yes, worked fine under WinXP.
now i am able to access the TC using the AirPort Utility app, that's some progress.
but still unable to map to it with File Explorer (had it mapped as Z when running WinXP)
this is my first time with Win7 ... here's what i'm doing to map
    open file explorer
    select map network drive
    drive = "z"
    folder = "\\<NAME OF TC>
    select 'connect using different credentials'
    select Use Another Account
it then prompts for User Name and Password
... i input the TC name for User Name and the password ... error message that windows cannot access the device
i had not problems setting it up in winxp, but that was a long time ago and it was all saved in local memory, i'm sure i'm missing something obvious, but can't see where i'm going wrong
    thanks!
