Cannot get Wireless Printing to setup on OfficeJet Pro 8500A

I just purchased the OFFICEJET PRO 8500A and am not able to setup the wireless to work properly
I ran the wireless setup through the printer - it found my network, I entered the WEP - it says it's connected and lists the IP address as 169.254.24.215 .  I've run the wireless network test report and there are NO ISSUES on it.
When I load the software and enter the IP address above, it can't find it.  I'm running Windows XP.  I also loaded the software onto my wireless laptop running Windows Vista and I get the same issue there.  The software does not find the printer on my network.
I have a verizon ACTIONTEC wireless router.  When I go to the Verizon Broadband page that shows all my active connections I don't see the printer or any device with the IP address of 169.254.24.215.  In fact, ALL of the devices (wireless, ethernet and Coax) that I have setup and listed have IP addresses starting with192.168 so this seems odd to me as well.
I've run the diagnostic software and it can't find the printer either.  I've loaded, unloaded and downloaded the software from the HP site - same issue.  I've turned off ALL firewalls, shut down, etc.  Still nothing.
Can anyone help?  I'm sure I'm not the only person experiencing this!  Thanks!

Hi,
a 169. ip adress actually shows you its not connected as this is whats called an apipa adress which is assigned when not connected or when connected directly to a pc or other network device. To be on your network the units need to get an ip adres like 192.168 as well.
So go into the setup menu of the unit and find the network menu. In there select restore network default and run the wireless wizard again. But before doing this you can try turning the router security off temporaraly (wep isnt that safe anyway as it can be cracked with free software within 10 minutes, so you might want to change to a WPA key). When the security is turned off run the wizard and see if you get a 192.adres. if yes open your browser and go to the so called EWS of the printer by typing in the ip adres of the printer in the adres bar. From there go to the networking tab and fill in your security data and press apply. you will loose connection to the printer now. Restart the routers security and and the connection should return. You might need to restart the printer first btw.

  • Why can't I print to my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus All-in-One from my wired PC?

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A Plus All-in-One on my network.  My router is wireless, which several of my devices (laptops, ipads, etc.) use to get an internet connection, but I have one desktop PC that is actually wired to the router via ethernet cable.  For some reason, when I attempt to print to the 8500 from the wired PC, the doc just sits in the que, eventally registering as an 'error'. But all of my wirelss devices can print to it just fine.
Oddly, this is somewhat of an intermittent issue, as I have printed successfully from this PC before, but I can't right now.  I'll also throw this in: I have at times, plugged an ethernet cable into my wireless-capable laptop and had the same issue.  But then I just unplug the calbe, reboot, and turn on wireless, and can print without any issues ... so I suspect it has something to do with the fact that the PC is wired to the router.
Don't know if this has anytthing to do with it, but my wireless network is called 'FrogNet', but my wired PC doesn't see 'FrogNet' like all my wireless devices do.  It just indicates that this is part of a generic network.   Ideas?  (All computers run Win7.)

  • Cannot fax from my iMac to my Officejet Pro 8500A Plus A910g

I have researched HP help and followed the directions on how to add the fax to my available printers, but when I try to fax a document, the printer prints 3 pages with one line ofcode on each but does not fax the document. If I use the fax feature on the 8500A, it works as designed. I can scan from the 8500A to the iMac and print from the iMan to the 8500A. I would like to be able to fax documents from the iMac without printing them and then faxing.

    Hi A-BPlumber,
I would like to help you be able to send a fax from your mac without having to print it. Please ensure you are choosing the Fax driver next to the printer selection in the 'print' dialog box.
Please take a look at the following document to ensure you have all of the appropriate settings correct; Sending Faxes Using the Fax Utility - Mac OS X
    I hope this helps.

  • My wireless computer unable to print to hardwired hp officejet pro 8500a plus

My wireless computer is running window Vista home.
    1. I have tried to print from several programs and have resulted in a print error in the printer que.
    2. I have gone into the printer properties and verified the correct IP address and driver are installed.
    3. Attempted to send a test page from the properties window, same result.
    4. Uninstalled and Reinstalled the printer software and drivers from the CD. It prints one time than, same results.
    5. The printer is directly connected the wireless router and is connected the the HP service. I am able to email the print job and have it print, but I want the printer to print over the network not the internet.

Download and run this utility: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-104282-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

  • I cannot get the Firmware update to my OfficeJet Pro 8500 (A909a) to work.

I first downloaded the FW update 1006BR to replace the 842BR installed at the factory. (On Firefox I was given the option to download or cancel). After the download, I double clicked, the program self extracted, I got the box asking for permission to allow the program to run and I clicked OK. Then I got the box saying the program stopped working, I clicked on find a solution and then the program closed.
I then switched to IE9, it allowed me to run the program directly, but I had exactly the same results.
As per the instructions, the printer is directly connected to the network (always is) and the Windows Firewall was off.

Took me all day to get the old XP working. But, I had success in flashing the printer.
    1. Installed the software from the original DVD that came with it. Had Norton antivirus and firewall turned off and installed the printer using USB.
Note: Win XP does not have User Access Control (UAE) and I did not think to turn this off during the unsuccessful flashing on the Win7 PC. If you are running an AV program, I would turn UAE off and disconnect my internet connection. You dont need it to flash the printer.
    2. I updated the HP software via the HP solution centre. Open it and you should see a choice to update the software. When updating it tells you that it will fix a communication problem with the printer. Run it. I usually tick the box to "shut down the computer after completion". This way, I can walk away and if it has shut down, it usually has updated successfully. If it is still running and hangs then there is a problem. Make sure to print a test page from the printers property window. If it does, you know it can communicate after the update.
    3. Flash the printer. It will happen as per the instructions from HP. I had the .exe on a usb stick and it did it from that.
    Hope that helps.
    Werner

  • I cannot open the middle part of the Officejet Pro 8500A

I just bought this and it appears stuck and will not open (4a) of instruction sheet. It looks in the illustration as if you simply pull up but I cannot open it at all.

    Hi sandrayannetta,
If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, or you cannot see the paper either at the paper output slot or at the front tray, remove the paper from the transport unit.  Remove the paper following the procedure below:
Turn the machine off, then unplug the power cord.
Stand the machine with the right side facing down.
If you can see the jammed paper at the front tray, stand the machine with the front tray open.
    Important:
When you stand the machine, confirm that the document cover is closed.
When you stand the machine, hold it securely and be careful not to hit it on a hard object.
Push the open lever to open the transport unit.
    (A) Open lever
When you open the transport unit, support it with your hand so that it does not fall down.
Pull out the jammed paper slowly.
    Note:
If the paper is rolled up and it is difficult to remove, grasp the edges of the paper, then remove the jammed paper.
If you cannot remove the jammed paper from the transport unit, close the transport unit, stand the machine upright, then open the paper output cover to remove the paper.
    . Close the transport unit.
Note:After you close the transport unit, do not keep the machine standing upright.
Plug the machine back in and turn the machine back on.
Reload the paper.  All print jobs in the queue are canceled. Reprint if necessary.

  • Wireless printer is setup, but the HP Installer Setup program is in a never-ending loop

Wireless printer is setup (HP Officejet 4500), but the HP Installer Setup program is in a never-ending loop.  It says "Fatal error during installation." and keeps trying to uninstall/reinstall/ etc etc etc.  Printer is setup and runs fine, just need to get rid of this crazy loop - any guidance?

    Which OS is installed?
I recommend that you uninstall the printer software from the HP folder in start-->All Programs -->HP --> uninstall software
After the uninstall is completed and your system restarted install and configure the printer again.

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8500a Plus won't print. Paused queue cannot resume. 'Doctor' fails to solve.

As a Windows 7 Admin user I can print to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500a Plus but other users cannot. Their prints go into the 'Print Queue' and neither Resume or Restart will work. Resume merely deletes it from the queue and Restart does nothing.
Print and Scan Doctor doesn't resolve the problem. It refers to the 'stuck queue' and restarts the computer. Even then it does nothing to solve the problem.
There appear to be many instances of this problem on searching the Internet, most suggesting highly complex solutions. Surely it shouldn't be that difficult to solve.

It sounds like it could be a permissions user since the admin account has no issue printing to it.
Are the other users printing from the same computer, but different accounts or are they printing to the networked printer from different computers?

  • Officejet Pro 8500A unable to connect wirelessly to Ubee Modem/Router

I recently upgraded to a new "all in one" Ubee Modem Router (Model DDW366) and have spent hours attempting to wirelessly (both using Wizard and entering info by hand) print, but nothing has worked.  The only way I am able to print at this time is by printer cable connected to my MacBook Pro.  I'm unable to print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad.
HP will not advise me on how to solve this problem as printer is no longer under warranty and Cox Cable who sold me the Modem/Router combo are not willing to assist with this problem.
Can anyone advise me on how to print wirelessly again?

    Hello @drlogan0,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are encountering problems with getting your Officejet pro 8500A onto your new wireless network.
    I would like to help.
i would try restoring the network defaults. This will help erase any 'old' information that may be stuck in the printers memory. I would like to give you specific steps for this, but I am unsure if you have the 8500A, 8500A wireless, or the 8500A premium.
Basically the steps are, go into the network menu, and select restore network defaults.
If you have tried restoring the network defaults already, please review the following troubleshooting documents.

  • Officejet Pro 8500A - unable to print on odd-size paper

After a couple of hours of frustration, I have decided that I an unable to print on odd-sized paper on our brand new HP printer!  On an older string in this user forum, one suggestion was to make a paper cut-out from regular sized paper to put on top of an envelope to "fool" the printer into thinking it was using standard sized paper.  I am trying to print odd-sized wedding invitations, and in order to to do this, I wouldn't be able to use the paper guides intended to keep the smaller paper in the middle.
Another suggestion would be to create a "custom size" paper in the printer properties, which doesn't seem to be possible in Windows XP as far as I can see.
    My card-stock paper measures 4 3/4" x 6 7/8"  Neither 5 x 7" nor 4 x 6" will work and I have tried numerous others, such as Janpanese postcard, Index card 4 x 6, etc.
Any suggestions?  This is frustrating enough to look at other namebrand printers next time, but I guess I'm stuck with this one for a while!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500a problem with printing black ink

I have an Officejet Pro 8500a printer. When I print documents, it will not print anything in black ink. The colors work fine, but black just won't print. The printer claims that the black ink cartridge has plenty of ink, and when I shake it I can tell that there is something in there. So, I don't think it is an issue of the black ink being out. Is there a chance that something is blocking the ink from coming out? Any fixes to this besides buying a new ink cartridge?

  • Can't get Officejet Pro 8500A to print using a Bigpond wireless network

I phoned Bigpond for assistance and was told that the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A needs to use a wireless router.  Is this the case?  I reinstalled the HP software on the computer but when I selected the Router/Wireless connection wasn't able to detect the network, even though I was logged on to Bigpond.  Would appreciate assistance please.

    Hi Ruski,
Wireless is just one of three ways you can have the printer attached for printing from your computer. I am unaware specifically what Bigpond is, however a few questions would narrow down which connection type would be optimum:
What devices do you want to print from?
Do you have an established wireless network at your home/business where the printer is?
Are you wanting to use the web services of your printer (ePrint, AirPrint, or Print Apps)?
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
