Cannot hear effects untill after I've recorded them

Hello,
I'm using GarageBand3 and a guitar plugged into an M-Audio interface, then the output is into an amp.
However, when I play the guitar as a real instrument in GarageBand, if I have any effects on I can't hear them through the amp (I can hear just the normal guitar) but if I record something and play it back it DOES have the effect on it (I play it back through the amp and this works fine).
I've also tried it using headphones plugged into both the audio interface and my macbook itself.
Does anyone know how I can make it so that I can hear the effects as I play them?

You have to turn monitoring on in the track info window. It allows you to monitor wet signal (the sound being recorded with FX). You are now monitoring the dry signal (the sound before being sent to garageband).
If your using the Fast Track after turning monitoring you can then adjust the signal wet or dry with the input playback volume control.

I"m using photoshop cs5 and the liquify filter dosen't show any effect until after I've clicked ok. I've checked, and unchecked "show backdrop" and the opacity is set to 100%. I'm stumped.

I solved my own problem. I reset my preferences by closing photoshop, then re-starting the program while holding ctrl-alt-shift. I then unchecked "show backdrop."

the restart of weblogic server¡£Why? How can I solve it£¿

Check that your classpath is not set up to this class when you start the
          server and check the ProductionDeploymentMode to false in the starting
          parameters!

Alex, thanks for the reply but it did not answer my question. I only want to turn off notifications & interruptions while I am on the phone. For this desired result, the only way the Do Not Disturb feature would help is if I manually turned it on before each phone conversation. Since my phone rings at random times, this is not possible. Basically, I just want to "opt out" of call-waiting. When I had a landline I never had call waiting. I don't want to be interrupted. But beyond that, even if I am being interrupted why are these notifications preventing the other party from hearing my voice?

Cannot hear musical typing.

I added an audio track to a blank Garageband project, and attempted to play a virtual instrument track over that audio track using musical typing. When the audio track is inserted, I cannot hear anything from the virtual instrument track. Whether the audio is playing or not, no key I hit makes noise. However, I can record on the virtual instrument track, and hear back what I've recorded. I simply cannot hear it otherwise (including as I record). Im hoping that this is just a quick fix because I am relatively new to the program. Thanks!

In iChat 6 there was some cross over between the Bonjour Account's "Send As I type" and any Yahoo login (which has it in the Yahoo for Mac app but not in iChat) and actually allowed some form of staggered Messages to be sent over Yahoo.
The Bonjour Option has now disappeared in Messages and it now cannot be done.
If on the other hand you mean that the chat window is not displaying the 3 dot ellipses to indicating someone is typing that is a different matter.

People often can't hear me until I restart - why?

Very often when I do a video chat with people they cannot hear me until I quit and restart iChat or, in worse situations, until I restart my computer.
Why would that happen?
It happens with my new iMac G5 / iSight and also happened with my PB17 with a separate iSight camera.
I am on a fiber optic network with 100 MBps up and down, so I don't think it is a network speed issue on my end.
I usually can hear the people on the other end just fine.
Any ideas?

Hi Doug,
Check these places.
iChat View Menu and make Show Audio Status is ticked.
iChat Video Menu make sure Microphone Enabled is ticked.
System Preferences > Sound Input tab has the 'right' mic slected and the volume is adjusted to move the bars to at least halfway.
In iChat > Preferences > Video > Microphone drop donwn make sure the same Mic is slected as above.
System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab > Connection Spedd setting should match your download speed.
iChat > Preferences > Video > Bandwidth Limit drop down shoud be set at NONE.

I cannot hear ring or other person talking

I can hear my iPhone 3G ring but cannot hear the caller talking unless I put them on speaker. Also can't hear it ring when I call out to other person.

im thinking it was a network issue...my phone is now able to hear incoming and outgoing calls. i hope all of your phones are now doing the same too.

Can't hear track after it's recorded

I'm recording a bass track and can see the wave form while it's recording and after I've stopped.
I can also see the volume meter moving. When I go to play the track back, I cannot hear it. The record button on the track is turned off. I imported a previously recoded song (without bass) and have it on one track, I'm trying to add a bass track. When I play back, I can hear the first track that I imported but not the bass track. Is there a button I should be pressing or what. The volume level (green light indicator) is not showing on the bass track and the volume knob and L-R are disabled for some reason.
I'm using a XENYX502 with a USB interface to my tower.
any help would be much appreciated

After connecting my blue tooth it works for a few incoming and outgoing calls. Then for no reason when i make a call the other party cannot hear me and even if i try to click on the speaker phone or hand set they cannot hear me. rebooting required

Blue tooth operation and lock up. After i connect my bluetooth it works fine foe a few calls. Then if i place an outgoing call, I cannot hear the reciving party but they can hear me. Other times i can hear them but they cant hear me. After rebooting the phine it works again for a few calls. This is consistent with 2 diferent blue tooth devices?

Sorry about the delay, I have been away from my computer for a couple of days.
Since you are able to use Siri and dictate notes, that indicates the mic itself is working.
I would suggest fully quiting the Phone app and resetting the iPhone.
Double click the Home button (bottom center of the display with square icon on it) to get the fast switcher. Press and hold on one of the icons so they start "shivering" and the red "-" icons. locate the Phone icon and press the red "-" on it. Then press the Home button again to stop the "shivering".
Then Reset the iPhone, press and hold the Home and Sleep/power (top right edge of iPhone) buttons until you get the Apple logo. Wait for it to finish restarting and then test again.

Regarding Facetime on my Ipad. I get started on a call and after 10 or 15 minutes I cannot hear whom I am talking to. They can still hear me and I still have picture on the screen but my sound stops working.

Using Garageband and I cannot hear previously recorded tracks on headphones. Prefs are set to output on EMU0404 my audio device - this did work but now is not working.

I cannot see anything wrong with the EMU0404. This is what puzzels me ... Garageband looks OK - headphones are OK - EMU looks OK.

PROBLEM: Cannot print from Photoshop
After restart error message appears:

• All print commands are greyed out and unavailable — even to call up the printer commands cannot be done.
The printer printed fine until about 2 weeks ago when this error message appeared. Printing continues from Pages, I-photo, preview etc. — only Photoshop fails.
The printer has been turned on and off, as have open documents been closed and open etc.. Preferences reset. Repeatedly I have read through blogs and forums and attempted to contact Adobe — all without results
Epson support struggled to find reason and several solutions were tried and they assume this is an Adobe problem.
Running Mac Powerbook X 10.10.2 / Photoshop CS6 13.0.6.x64
Attempting unsuccessfully to print to Epson 3880
What Adobe support will be of help.

Most movies have Dolby surround sound. Seems like you don't have all sound channels coming out of your speakers.
Is the AppleTV connected to a receiver or to a TV?
If you have a receiver that supports dolby surround you should configure the sound settings of the Apple TV and receiver accordingly.
If it's connected to a TV the audio setting "Dolby Digital" in the Apple TV should be set to off.
