Cannot hear music or sound thru speaker

Not hearing music/sound in the speaker with the Adobe tutorial pack, hotel tycoon, angry birds and some others.
Is the an on-off in general controls I am not seeing?

Aha! So by "hardware error" do you think they are saying it's the way the iPad is built, as opposed to a fix-able software or firmware issue?
Here is the weird thing. Last night (after I had pretty much gotten over it), I popped on the tutorial and the speaker worked! Same with Angry Birds Rio, but not Angry Birds HD. Oh, well. By that late at night I had to go back to ear buds anyway, so as not to wake anybody up.
Might have been the reset I performed yesterday. I was not really in full diagnostic mode when trying to fix the issue, so I kind of muddied the results. Sounds like it is something Apple is aware of at any rate, if phone support knows about it.

I had the same issue on iMac. My resolution - I opened Quicktime Player and under File opened 'new audio recording'. Then, playing from my Onkyo cassette player into the receiving headphone jack, I hit the center button of the Audio Recording and it recorded all. Now to save and have in itunes, I hit the red closing button and up pops the save window. At bottom of screen changed Movie to Audio Only. Then hit arrow to right of Save As window to open up to creating my own file as to location. Placed appropriate title in Save As. And it was in that file and in iTunes with my title.
I recorded from the Onkyo cassette into the iMac with rca wires, coupling into one cord & into the 'in' of the headseat on the backside of the iMac.
Everything in sound said was reading incoming sound but the speakers had no reaction, but after doing this recording process, no issue on the sound. And now I can put to CD these old tapes.

Are you sure that it is 2nd generation? (it would have an external volume control, and the tapered edges on the body). The 1st generation has no external volume control button, no speaker, and squared-off edges.
If it really is 2nd generation and you can't hear the external speaker, of course make sure that the volume is turned up. If you still can't hear anything, then Reset the iPod (press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Apple logo, then release). If that doesn't work, then Restore the iPod using iTunes.

My wife had this problem with her 4S for 2 weeks. I got her to do a hard re-boot --holding down the home button and the power button on top until the apple symbol appears after the reboot. (be sure to ignore the power off slide and keep holding down both buttons.)
That fixed the problem for her. She had the phone 2 months before this started, but now everything is fine.

1. Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
2. Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
3. Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
4. If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose Music > Now Playing, then tap Play.
5. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
6. Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. HT1414 I have the iPhone 4s. I have tried restoring my phone and cleaning out the ports, but I still cannot hear music or my videos playing. This happened after I did the last update on my phone. Is there anything else I can do? This is really irritating.

I have the 4s. I have recently restored my settings and cleaned out the ports. I still cannot hear my audio for music or videos. My volume on the side of the phone does not work either. Everything workds in the setting menu. It is not a speaker issue because the ringtone works when people are calling and I can listen to the different ringtones as well. My notifications and text message audio does not work. My phone does not say that it is on a dock. When I try listening to music, the volume adjustment appears, but it is gray and unusable. Everything works when headphones are in plugged in and when it is on the dock. This started with the last iPhone update. What else can I do... this is becoming very frustrating.

Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

To troubleshoot your iPhone's speakers please go through the following steps:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.

People cannot hear me properly, problem with speaker?

I think there is a problem with my phone when I talk to people, they say I sound like I am far away I have to shout, or cup my hand to the bottom of the phone in order for someone to hear me.
I have done, i have restarted my phone, removed the battery, checked the settings. Still people cannot hear me. It has only been seven months, I never had a problem with my old BB Bold.

First, make sure your mic isn't full of pocket lint. It's right below the "k" in BlackBerry on the front of the device.
Then go to the Help app. At the bottom go to Testing. You can do different diagnostic tests in there and one of them is the mic. Does the test pass for the mic?

Callers cannot hear me, unless I use the speaker feature. Mute is not turned on, so what might be the problem.
I had been using the phone normally and on the next call, the caller could not hear me reply.
Eventually I tried using the speaker function and then callers can hear me - but not using the normal functions.
Any suggestions as to what button I might have pushed inadvertently. The mute feature is not turned on.

can anyone help?
everytime i transfer a video onto my ipod i cannot hear the music is there anyway of sorting this problem out. Also when i state a file to be a music video it does not transfer onto the ipod is this due to format of the file? I have tried to convert the file so it would go on the ipod but the problem is still the same it will not transfer.

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
