Cannot hear or be heard on my iphone

My iphone has suddenly gone mute I cannot hear callers and they cannot hear me.  I cannot also hear any voice messages.  Please help.

Here we go again, with the same problems as before. Needless to say that FIOS never came..It's in the area but not to mine. Just about every other month I have had noise on the line and dropped calls. This unacceptable since I pay my bills without fail and when repairmen come, they try their best, but what can be done with bad input cables. You try to find the date that Fios will replace the main cable, with no help.  WHY CAN'T VERIZON NOT KNOW WHAT FIOS'S IS DOING WHEN!!! You Verizon are BIOS!!!!
Three days ago I have had same problem with the phone, spoke to phone rep yesterday, today repairman came. He rerouted the wires on the pole , stated to wait two hours for activation. Phone now working even worst than before. Called to advise of problem...work order called in for December 11th. Almost two weeks without full service...

  • IPhone 4 software issue. Cannot hear or be heard when making call

    Hi there,
A few days ago, out of the blue, I lost the ability to be able to hear or be heard when on a call on my iPhone 4.
On a call, no matter which output I use, earpiece, earphones or speaker, I cannot hear the person on the other end speaking, and they cannot hear me talking. My phone will ring if someone is calling, and if I call someone their phone will connect, but from there I am completely muted/in silence.
I do not believe this is a hardware related issue as I have tested both the microphone and speaker/s by making a Skype call to a friend which worked absolutely fine. I can also play music from my phone successfully through all of the iPhone outputs mentioned above.
This is a super frustrating issue as I haven't dropped the phone or damaged any of the hardware.
The only one software related thing I notice that is out of the ordinary is that when I do make a call, the 'speaker' icon is selected by default. Obviously I have attempted to deselect it, but have had no success in this making any difference.
    Any ideas?
Of course where I live I don't have access to an Apple Store, and everywhere I take it locally I get the response - 'Sorry, we don't repair iPhones'
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I forgot to mention that I have reset all settings and restored the phone twice - once as a restore from a back up, and then a restore as a new phone. None of these methods worked and I'm still stuck with the same issue!
Looks like I might be posting my phone to Apple

  • Cannot hear iTunes streamed over Airplay from iPhone 4.3.5

Hi, I have an AppleTV with the latest updates, and an iPhone 4.3.5.  I have successfully configured AirPlay and have used it to both stream iTunes music as well as Vimeo Videos (launched from the Safari browser) to the AppleTV.  I attempted to stream music after successfully streaming the video and ran into an issue in which music no longer streams.  The iPhone AirPlay icon highlights blue and looks as if the iPhone thinks that it is successfully streaming, but I hear nothing out of the AppleTV.  However, if I do this with the Vimeo video everything works fine.  I have rebooted both devices, I factory reset the AppleTV and reconfigured everything but still am unable to use AirPlay for music.  I have even tried turning it off and on and reseting the password as well.
I attempted updating both devices, but I am on the latest version.
    Help please!

Some models can only be updated to certain versions.
    - https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do.  This will show the make and model of the device.  To find your serial number on an iOS device, simply tap settings / general / about - and you should see your serial number of your device.
If you iPhone can be updated, you would need to connect it to a computer via a USB cable, and then update it through the applications iTunes.  If your computer does not have iTunes installed on it, you would need to install it first.

  • People cannot hear me using FaceTime or Speakerphone iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1

I just noticed this today.  I tried blowing out the headset jack and other areas with compressed air, restarting the phone, and also did a factory restore and still only when I use the speakerphone option when on a call or using Facetime no one can hear me at all unless I plug in my earphones.  Anyone have any ideas??  By the way, if I use the voice record feature in the accessories, I can record my voice so it makes no sense.....

Whether it makes "sense" to you or not (do you really know everything about the phone?), if you've restored as new (without using a backup), you've done all possible software fixes.  If this was a bug in the iOS, others would be having it as well,   yet no other reports...
Again - restoring as new brings the phone to a blank slate, and if still not working properly, there is nothing further you can do.  Take it to Apple.
There is one exception:  If the phone was EVER hacked to jailbreak or unlock, there can be permanent damage that not even restoring as new can fix (i.e. altered baseband firmware)

  • I can hear callers, they cannot hear me unless on speaker

i can hear callers, they cannot hear me unless on speaker
    New iPhone 4
    Have already done full resets

    Hello Lorilynn63,
It sounds like you have already restored the device as new and the issue persists. If thats the case, then I would say that you have ruled out software as a possible culprit, and would reset the device with this process:
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists then I would take a look at the Service Answer Center - iPhone found here http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipho ne.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • My callers cannot hear me, please help

I can hear my callers but they cannot hear me, should I reset the iPhone?

    ·        I'm having the same problem with my iPhone4 S. First, I'll dial out and the I hear absolute silence but my phone indicates that it's sucessfully calling out (oh...and the party on th other line can hear me but I can't hear them). I thought my phone wasn't connecting to the caller. I'll call again and but this time the callers cannot hear me but I can hear them perfectly. I hang up and make repeated attempts and then reset my phone. It works but then I have the same problem with my next call. I don't want to reset my phone before every call! Very, very irritating.
Is anyone else having these specific problems???

  • Major Problem iphone 4. I can hear them, they cannot hear me.

This has been happening for the last 3 days. I make or receive a call on my iPhone 4 and within seconds the party on the other line cannot hear me at all. I hear them perfectly but they cannot hear me. Sometimes it happens right away sometimes it takes several seconds but my voice completely drops out. This happens 50 to 80% of the time.
Went to the apple store and they checked it by using the recorder app which worked fine and then by making a call which also worked fine. They did not perform any diagnostics. I'm on the road all day and my business depends on my phone. I am now afraid to make calls for fear of the person on the other side losing me mid sentence or not hearing me at all. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. This happens whether I'm on speaker, mic or bluetooth.
I upgraded to the latest software on Sunday and to no avail. Am I alone? 32gb iPhone 4 4.0.2 software. Any ideas?
Could this be iPhone problem or ATT?

    Hi
This has also been an issue with my iphone 4, 4.0.1 also.
It worked well for a week but then the person I am talking to can no longer hear me or my voice sounds muffled. This seems to be an intermittent problem but very frustrating. If using speaker phone it works well, for now.
I went into the Orange store and the guy said he has heard of the problem but it's very rare. He told me that Apple can do a diagnostic to see if it is a problem they can fix.
Will let you know if this works.

  • IPhone 4 - I cant hear or be heard on phone calls

I cant hear or be heard on phone calls. I have done a soft reset and a full reset without resolution. Everything else works. It is not a phone network issue either. Does anyone have a fix?

    Hello Paul,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPhone.  It certainly is impossible to make and receive calls if you can't be heard and cannot hear the other person.  You have taken some really good troubleshooting steps already.
I found a couple of articles with a few additional steps for the issue you described (you can skip the steps you have already taken):

  • Cannot hear iPhone Ring with Headset

I just started using the V-Moda Vibe II wired headset but I usually prefer to leave the earpiece hanging from my shirt while I'm not making calls. This is because the earpiece interferes with my hearing as it blocks outside noise. The problem is I cannot hear my iPhone ringing because it only plays within the earpiece and not from the iPhone's speaker. I set my phone on vibrate but sometimes while having it on my holster and walking I cannot feel the vibration. Is there a way for the iPhone speaker ringer to work while using a headset? If not, Apple should make this an option in Preferences>Sound.
    Thanks,
    Alexander

You're right! You know what's weird? Whenever I charge my iPhone to my iHome alarm clock radio, my iPhone's sound settings get all weird. Perhaps because when I connect it, my iPhone says that "This accessory is not compatible with iPhone", even though it should according to the alarm clock box. Keyboard clicks disappear. So maybe my sound settings got screwed up because of that. I just tested it and heard the ringer from my iPhone. Thanks guys!

  • Iphone 4 during a call can't hear or be heard. But I know both the speakers and the phone call mic work fine.

I bought an iphone 4 and have been having multiple issues since the moment I got it. My biggest issue when I received it was that the noise cancellation mic didn't work. I sent it back to the people I bought it from to fix it and they fixed the other mic but not the noise cancellation mic. So I know that one doesn't work with apps, speaker phone, that sort of thing. I've been just dealing with it and using headphones with a mic on them.
Well once I put my sim card in and had to go through a huge debacle with AT&T to do it, I got a phone call and I couldn't hear anyone and they couldn't hear me. I tried switching it to speaker phone and using my headphones and still nothing. I first tried factory reset and network reset and it didn't do anything. So I tried the fix where you put a piece of cardboard in the phone and the other fix where you loosen and then re-tighten the grounding screw. Now I can hear the other person but only on speaker phone, the call is choppy, but I can hear them so progress! They still couldn't hear me. However, when I took the call off of speaker phone it was back to dead silence. I tried putting in my headphones to see if they could hear me, they still could not hear me even with the headphone mic. I'm not sure what else I can do!! I know the speakers and mic work because I listen to music and play games and I hear those and when recording on voice memo the mic and playback work fine.I also know that it isn't any issue with signal because it happens where ever I am, low signal or all 5 bars! I guess I'll try cleaning them and try putting a thicker piece of cardboard but I don't expect those to work. If you can help with any suggestions at all please let me know! I have been having the worst luck with this phone and i'm getting absolutely fed up.

  • HT1414 I have the iPhone 4s. I have tried restoring my phone and cleaning out the ports, but I still cannot hear music or my videos playing. This happened after I did the last update on my phone. Is there anything else I can do? This is really irritating.

I have the 4s. I have recently restored my settings and cleaned out the ports. I still cannot hear my audio for music or videos. My volume on the side of the phone does not work either. Everything workds in the setting menu. It is not a speaker issue because the ringtone works when people are calling and I can listen to the different ringtones as well. My notifications and text message audio does not work. My phone does not say that it is on a dock. When I try listening to music, the volume adjustment appears, but it is gray and unusable. Everything works when headphones are in plugged in and when it is on the dock. This started with the last iPhone update. What else can I do... this is becoming very frustrating.

    Hi shanny202.
Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

  • I cannot hear ANY music on my iPhone

I cannot hear ANY music on my iPhone. I can make and receive phone calls even in speakerphone mode, but I cannot hear any of tracks that synced from iTunes, not even with the headphones. Is anybody having the same problem? Does anybody have any idea on how to fix it ? I do not want to reset the phone for fear of having to reactivate it. Is Apple aware of this critical problem ?

  • What to do about some one that cannot hear the iPhone ringing?

My mother has an iPhone 4S.  When she is in her aprartment alone, she takes out her hearing aids.  When her phone rings she cannot hear it.  We've tried putting the phone in an empty glass to amplify the sound, but it's not loud enough, still.  Is there a device we can purchase that will connect to the phone when she is at home that will amplfy the ringing sound?

i do know that apple is working on some hearing aids that work with the iphone directly. so that should help her out a lot when it comes out
