Cannot hear people talking on phone

Just gotten the iPhone4 and am soooooo impressed. With incoming calls I cannot hear the people on the otherside. Even the volume buttons on the left hand side is set to its highest....
What gives?

This is a brand new iPhone 5 - did not drop it or has any other damage. I cannot hear people when I've answered. Volume on full, no plastic cover, just very poor quality of sound

I have an iphone4 that is 2 and 1/2 yrs old and the volume buttons on the side of the phone no longer work, therefore I cannot hear people who call me very well unless I use a handsfree and also when listening to music or watching footage, I cannot alter

My iphone4 is 2 and 1/2 yrs old, works fine other then the volume buttons just stopped working all of sudden. This function not working means I cannot hear people very well when they call because I cannot turn the volume up and when watching footage i.e. music video or film, I cannot turn volume up or down. This has meant I cannot use my phone like I used to, therefore not fit for purpose. Questions is - Is Apple, under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 obliged to repair/replace my phone for free?
When I went into my Bromley store today I was told because the phone is not under the 12 month warranty Apple could not help me or I could pay in excess of £100 to get phone repaired, is this right?

Pretty much. Except that Apple will replace it for a fixed fee that is far less than the cost of a new phone. In the US the replacement cost for an iPhone 4 is $149. It is comparable in the UK. Unless you can prove that the fault was present at the time of purchase. A switch wearing out would probably be considered normal wear and tear, not a "fault".

I can't hear people talking on my iPhone, however they can hear me. My speaker phone works and with that i can hear the caller. just as well, i have no problem by using the headset. any solutions? i have recovered the system into the newest version.

On going issue for many over a month now since the phone came out. Nothing fixes it and many have returned the phone for another in hopes of getting a good one...

Hey there mahmoud.qaadan,
It sounds like you are making calls or receiving them but the other party cannot hear you even though the microphones work in other apps on your phone. I would start by quitting all the running apps on your device:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

ITunes TV shows - can't hear people talk

I got a couple of episodes of the TV show Intervention and when I play it through my headphones, I can barely (if at all) hear people talking. I turn it up all the way and the music is really loud, but the voice is inaudible. Has anyone else had this problem? My headphones are kinda crappy (I left my good ones at work), so that could be the problem. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Thanks.

Ok, so I tried it without the headphones and it works fine, so I guess it's the cheap/old headphones that were the problem.

Hi tylermarie,do you have screen cover on ur phone,make sure the speaker sound are not cover from protection,check it and pull out any cover on it,the phone are not faulty.

i can hardly hear people i talk to on the phone. i can put it on speaker and hear them but that is annoying. i checked the volume, etc. and all is fine. maybe there is something i have done in settings, but don't think so. is there something i can do or is it a phone problem that can't be fixed?

When talking on the phone i can barely hear people when they talk.
This is also true with voicemail.
Phone is just over a year old and has never been dropped.
volume button is all the way up

Callers cannot hear me on the phone

I've had a problem with my Samsung Galaxy SIII almost since I purchased it a few months back. When on a phone call, people cannot hear me unless I use an external headset or Bluetooth. Occasionally using speakerphone works, but as time goes on, that works less frequently. Please help!

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am sorry to hear of your troubles with your device. We certainly want you to always have a working phone. It sounds like you have a broken internal speaker. Are you still under warranty or have insurance on the device? Is their any damage to the phone? If none, then you should be able to get a replacement device. You can try to do a factory reset to see if the issue is possibly stemming from an internal application issue, but more then like it is from the speaker. Keep us updated on this information so we can figure out the next steps to take.

I cannot hear people on my iphone 3gs when im calling people

when i make calls to people i cannot hear them on my upper speaker. i usally have to put it on speaker phone or connect my headphones. does anyone know what ribbon cable connects the speaker? any other suggestions anyone may have? i deffinitley made sure its not in headphone mode. i would be very grateful for an anwser

After Firefox upgrades, I hear people talking when I go to one website only. This is the second time this has happened..

This was my original problem--
Every time I go to the obituary page, I start hearing talking and then firefox freezes. Why? This has only started happening recently.
I can look at everything on this website without a problem until I go to the obit page. I cannot even get halfway down when I start hearing the talking and then Firefox stops responding. When I close it and reopen it, I can sometimes change the number of obits viewed per page from 10 to 25 and I can then see them. Today, it kept freezing, so I had to use Safari. This only happens on the obit page on this one web site. The web site is http://www.news-record.com/. I have no other problems with Firefox and really like it very much. I am wondering if this has starting happening since the last Firefox update. Right now I have version 3.6.24. Any help you might be able to provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

5800 Cannot Hear Caller.. Phone to be exchanged ag...

Regular forum memeber may recall that I have an ongoing problem where at random I cannot hear the caller, but they can hear me.
I had a phone call from a young lady at Nokia UK today.
Guess what..I genuinely couldn't hear her.. it just so happened, that her call to me was affected by this problem.
I'm on to my second phone with this issue.
Nokia are now to do a doorstep swap on Monday.
Monday will be my third phone.
If it happens again then I'm at a loss.
I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and identify why this is happening.
If it happens on the third phone, I think I'll sell it and buy something else.

After lots of workaround, what seems to be working for me so far was to disable call timing. I figured out that this was one of the things (should I say bugs?) I used to switch on after each of many hard resets attempting to fix the problem.
[Settings > Calling > Call > Show call duration > No].
