Cannot hear singing - only muffled background music

I downloaded some new cd's to my computer, synced it, and forgot to hit the disconnect button on my itunes, but my computer was off and i unplugged it anyways. I don't think this is the problem seeing how i've done that before w/o an issue, BUT, now all my music (not just the new stuff) sounds muffled and I hear other weird sounds and ringing. Most of the time, all i can now hear is the background music, with very little if any singing.
A day later I plugged my ipod back into my computer, synced it and unplugged it and disconnected the appropriate way. Someone please give advice, my songs sound horrible and I have no idea what to do or what is wrong. Thanks!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE HELP. I did both of these things. I completely restored and wiped out my music and resynced it to my ipod. I was having trouble in my car with the ipod, and i think it ended up being my cord into teh auxiliary jack. I used my ear phone and could hear the music like normal, so I unplugged it and switched ends and it is now working.

IPod mini only plays background music! Can't hear the lyrics!?!

I don't even know how this happens... but my ancient iPod mini, the battery of which i had replaced a few years ago, has never failed me until now.
Every time I play a song, the lyrics are inaudible and all I hear is the background music, backup vocals, etc. This would be great if I were playing karaoke. But I want to hear the full song! Does anyone know how I can fix this? I thought maybe the EQ or soundcheck was messing with the mp3 so I turned both off but the problem persists.
Any ideas?

First of all, me being a instrumentalist would say: Who cares? Vocals suck! All they do is add meaning to a song that the instruments can't portray by themselves.
Anyways, it's a probaly with the headphone jack of your iPod. I bought a dock once and the headphone jack in the back got unsaugheted a bit and it started doing it. I suggest taking it to the store and asking them to saughter the headphone jack on properly or taking your ipod apart (I assume you have before since you replaced the battery) and giving it a good look, push it down a little bit and see if that helps.

IMovie only show background music after connecting to my external iMovie Mediathek, no video!!! desperat, i potentially lost a big project...

I work with an external iMovie-Mediathek so my big project don't mess up my macbook. I was working on a big project (45 min.) after the program crashed. Now, when I try to connect again to the external Mediathek, it will only show the background music I used, no video material at all... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But in the "events"-section, it looks normal with the preview just like always during the last couple of days... It even shows the size of the file with 146GB (which is correct), but still only the music is displayed (about 7 tracks).
I need urgent help. Same thing happened to the security-backup I make regularly...

Background music option in slideshow has ceased to work in iPhoto

I have followed the instructions in the "Setting slideshow options" page to the letter and am unable to hear or prelisten to background music for a slideshow from within iPhoto. I have no problem seeing my iTunes library from within iPhoto and the music I am selecting is not protected. This functionality used to work in iPhoto and I can listen to music directly in iTunes (not a hardware issue). The symptoms are that the slideshow starts as if no background music has been selected (it has of course). I have updated to iPhoto 6.0.5, I'm running iTunes 7.0.2 and I have all OS (10.4.8) and firmware updates on this MacBook Pro. I am starting to think that this functionality stopped working as a result of updating Mac software but I'm ready for something more obvious. Anyone had the same problem? Can anyone please help?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Did you repair disk permissions after each of the updater were run? It's important that it be done after any software installation or update. I'd give it another go and see if that helps. Also Terence's question regarding Quicktime is important.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Most movies have Dolby surround sound. Seems like you don't have all sound channels coming out of your speakers.
Is the AppleTV connected to a receiver or to a TV?
If you have a receiver that supports dolby surround you should configure the sound settings of the Apple TV and receiver accordingly.
If it's connected to a TV the audio setting "Dolby Digital" in the Apple TV should be set to off.

I added background music to the video clip in iMovie, the playback runs ok on the right corner preview screen, if I share it to movie clip or itunes or theather, I only hear noise, no video clip audio or the music audio
If I don't put additional audio to the clip. audio effect or music background, the video plays normally
I detached the audio from the video clip and deleted it, that way it was possible to listen to the music background and see the actual video clip, but no audio from the video clip.
How can I have both?

Where are the original Audio file ?
If it was on an Audio-CD then the CD is Ejected and one tries to play the movie - it can not find it = Silence.
You are using an Non-Destructive Video editor - meaning that You have raw material - Video, Audio and photos but no Movie in Project - only a text document directing How You want it to be played. So if Audio is not where it was when this document were created - iMovie can not find it and e.g. audio goes silent.

One song on my iPhone only plays the background music on the build-in iPhone speakers. The song has been on my phone for a while and it used to play just fine. With the headphones on it plays normally.

Please help! (I'm actually doing this for a friend but still)
All you need to know:
- iPhone 4 16GB
- iOS 6.0.3 (I think, not the latest iOS but the one before that)
- Song which started to act strange: niggas in Paris
- All songs work fine on headphones (including above)
- The song has been on the iPhone for a couple of months and used to play without any trouble
- When you play it on the iPhone's speakers you either only hear the background music, no sound at all (for a few seconds) or a weird old FM-radio noise
- Plays fine on iTunes

I have this issue too. Same specs, newest OS. Happening on "O.N.E." by Yeasayer, but doesn't play the vocals through the speaker or headphone jack, unlike your issue. I just get all but the vocal track no matter what. Plays fine in iTunes. If you never get that distortion through the speaker any other time, maybe you can delete the song.
In my case, I can't delete the song through the phone since I use iTunes Match, but if you actually sync the songs/download them, that would be my first suggestion (swipe across, hit "delete."). Maybe that would work? Then resyncing or redownloading.
If not, maybe resetting or restoring may be the fix.

Cannot hear anything in calls only. Works for Skype.

I am facing a strange problem. I cannot hear anything when making or receiving a call. Neither the earphone or speaker would work. The person on other side can hear me so the mic is working. Strangely this seems to be only a problem while calling via network. Can use facetime, Skype, play music. So assuming there is no hardware issue.
I have tried restarts, restoring to factory settings, none have helped.
Any idea or help will be greatly appreciated.

everytime i transfer a video onto my ipod i cannot hear the music is there anyway of sorting this problem out. Also when i state a file to be a music video it does not transfer onto the ipod is this due to format of the file? I have tried to convert the file so it would go on the ipod but the problem is still the same it will not transfer.

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.

You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.

The first things to try are these basic troubleshooting steps.
The Five Rs.

I had the same issue on iMac. My resolution - I opened Quicktime Player and under File opened 'new audio recording'. Then, playing from my Onkyo cassette player into the receiving headphone jack, I hit the center button of the Audio Recording and it recorded all. Now to save and have in itunes, I hit the red closing button and up pops the save window. At bottom of screen changed Movie to Audio Only. Then hit arrow to right of Save As window to open up to creating my own file as to location. Placed appropriate title in Save As. And it was in that file and in iTunes with my title.
I recorded from the Onkyo cassette into the iMac with rca wires, coupling into one cord & into the 'in' of the headseat on the backside of the iMac.
Everything in sound said was reading incoming sound but the speakers had no reaction, but after doing this recording process, no issue on the sound. And now I can put to CD these old tapes.

Cannot hear music through my BH-111

I have one BH-111, and I always use it to listen music.
From this morning, I only can use it to answer phone calls. i still can operator all functions (e.g. Play/Pause music, Fast forward, Back forward), but i just cannot hear anything from my headset.
But it is okay if i plug my headset to phone directly, not via BH-111. so i can say there is no problem with my headset, it should be something wrong with my BH-111. Please help~
