Cannot hide filename extension with Finder Advanced Hide Extensions

I am unable th hide filename extensions enmass with the Finder>Advanced>Hide Extensions option. All extensions, key, pdf, page, etc show. This behavior began about three weeks ago. I sync my files through an external drive and MobileMe with another MAC at home. I can hide individual extensions with the File Info command, but not hide all with Finder Preferences.
Does anyone have a suggestion.

this morning I encountered a strange problem:
In Finder, I cannot change the file name extensions any longer. When I hit enter and change e.g. Example.txt to Example.taskpapertheme, it will automatically be renamed to Example.taskpapertheme.txt as soon as I hit enter. I _can_ rename it via the Get Info-pane, on the other hand. I tried it in the Applications folder too, and it will always add the "correct" extension to the one I chose instead of just asking me whether I really want to do this.
Then again, I just renamed an .taskpapertheme file to .txt, and it worked. I could even reverse this, so the problem seems to be limited to some files.
I have no idea what to do, so I'd really appreciate your help!

Thank you, but unfortunately that didn't help.
I know about extensions and file types, but normally OS X will let me change it if I really want to do it, even if it's stupid like renaming .app to .txt.
The problem is, that OS X doesn't ask me any longer, but automatically adds the previous externsion to the filename after the extension I need to make some program recognize it. In my example, the theme files for TaskPaper are plain text files, but only load if they are named .taskpapertheme - unfortunately I cannot rename it in Finder as it will always add .txt when I finish editing the filename.

When I go to Finder Preferences Advanced and uncheck the Show all filename extensions I expect not to see file extensions thereafter, but this doesn't happen.
I've restarted, but still no joy.
Any ideas,please?

no, that's not quite how it works. when you uncheck that option it will hide some extensions but not all. I don't know how it decides which type of extensions to keep showing. it always shows .jpg extensions for some strange reason for example. if this happens you pretty much have to hide extensions on files individually using the "get info" panel. there is no automated way to hide all extensions on all files. it makes sense in some situatuions like for files with multiple extensions (e.g. all plists) but I can't think of a good reason why jpg files won't hide extensions automatically.
but this doesn't happen.
I've restarted, but still no joy.
Any ideas,please?

Report Painter - cannot hide an element selected for the drill-down report

I am using report painter to modify a report by trying to hide a row but getting the following error.
You cannot hide an element that you selected for the drill-down list
Message no. K7186
Diagnosis
You cannot hide elements that have already been selected for the drill-d
System Response
The function was canceled.
Procedure
Deselect the relevant row or column from the drill-down list.
It says to deselect the relevant row from the drill-down list, but not able to find out how do i do it.

If you are asking me whether i am trying to hide the row in the report painter form or in the output of the report, then, yes i am trying it in the report painter.
I copied this standard form '0SAPRATIO-01' for Cash Flow statements-Indirect method(tcode FSI5) and trying to modify the copied one. I tried to hide an existing row but it gave me the above message.
any help?

Cannot hide Safari 8.0

I cannot hide safari since I updated it to Version 8.0 and the OS X to Yosemite 10.10.1
I've tried using the usual keyboard buttons (cmd H) and the menu in the pop up on the dock icon.
I've restarted my laptop, but it still doesn't work.
Another problem is it fills the whole screen, I cannot reduce the size of the window or see the usual menu items above, e.g. preferences.
Can anyone help with this please?

Cannot Hide {This App} or Hide Others

For one of my users on my Powerbook running 10.4.7, I suddenly cannot hide the current app or hide the others because both lines are disabled in all apps, regardless of how many apps are running. When I switch from one app to another, no window of the first is visible when I'm in the second. Preferential Treatment says that I rehave no corruped plists. Applejack reports that everything is OK after booting into single user mode. I can find no item in any plist using PlistEdit Pro that seems related to the problem. Also, the problem does not exist if I logon as another user.
I've backed up the fubared system and restored another backup. However, since this is the second time this has happened to one of my machines, I'd like to know why it happens and how to fix it with something short of major brain surgery.

2. Do the keyboard shortcuts for Hide (Command-H) and Hide Others (Command-Option-H) still work, despite the fact that the menu choices are unavailable?
3. In the System Preferences > Speech > Text to Speech tab, if "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is selected (checked), then click "Set Key..." and see if Command-V has been set as the keyboard shortcut. If so, change it: the default is Command-Option-F13.
4. In the System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts tab, be sure no keyboard shortcut has been set to ⌘H or ⌘⌥H. If so, either:• Change the shortcut to another: click the value in the Shortcut column, then press the desired keyboard combination for the new shortcut.
• Click Restore Defaults to reset all shortcuts in the list to their default values.5. An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
6. Are you using an external keyboard with your PowerBook? If so, does the problem occur if you startup without the external keyboard?
7. Are you using any third-party software for defining your own keyboard shortcuts? If so, see if this has redefined or disabled the shortcuts.
8. One of the applications you use regularly may be redefining these keyboard shortcuts or otherwise prohibiting their use. I suggest troubleshooting your regular, particularly third-party (non-Apple) apps by process of elimination to see if one of them is causing the problem.
9. If none of the above, after pressing Command-H or Command-Option-H fails to operate correctly, check the ends of these Console logs for clues.

To open an INDD file in the older version (CS4-CC), you need to save it as an IDML. For CS3 & older versions, save it as an INX.

How do I hide my bookmarks menu? Since I upgraded to 8.0.2, I cannot hide this menu since I opened it!

EEver since I upgraded to 8.0, I cannot hide my Bookmarks/Favorite menu. Also when I type emails, my keyboard covers what I type!

Try hiding them via your computer's iTunes : click on your name towards the top right of your iTunes and then click Purchased on the popup
Or click on the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage.
Select the Apps section and hover your mouse pointer over the top left-of the app that you want to hide and click and it should disappear from that screen and from Purchased on your iPad and iPhone. (An 'x' should show on the top left corner when you hover your mouse pointer over the app, but on my Mac's iTunes, which is up-to-date, the 'x' doesn't show in the Apps section, but does show for music, films, TV programmes ; it still appears to be there as clicking the top left hides the app, it's just that the 'x' is invisible.)

Referee.java is a interface. I implemented it in the class RefereeMyName.java and made a method in that class to be static. Thats why I received that error message.
But can't I use static methods when I have implemented a interface in that class? I want to have a Player.java class which I want to access RefereeMyName.getTarget(). I cannot use a instance instead because I wouldn't receive a valid return value then (RefereeMyName is the client class).
What is the solution?

Well i do not think that you can do that b'cos that way you are not giving the same signature for the method as that exists in the interface. I do not know how other way it can be done but if something urgent for you then you can remove that method from that interface and only define in the class.
