Cannot highlight text

Hello, I am using dreamweaver 8. I placed text into layers.
When I upload it to my website it will not let me highlight the
text properly. This is my website and will show you what I mean.
www.handcraftedcandy.com. Try to highlight the text and see what
happens.
I am assuming its because I used layers but I have spent most
of the day reading articles to fix this and am still out of luck. I
have tried to place text in the tables and than place the table in
a layer but I still have no luck. I also tried to change all layers
to tables but I keep getting errors. I am sure I could find the
answer but it will take me days of reading to find it.
Thank you in advance to the genius who can provide me with an
answer.

Absolute positioning seems to cause text selection problems
in IE from what
I recall. If you're concerned about it, you'll have to
reconsider your
layout and the use of AP divs.

Vim keeps freezing and I cannot highlight text with my mouse

title says it all. Vim will freeze on me randomly. I was having X issues earlier but stopped using the nvidia driver and that seemed to fix that, but now Vim freezes. I'll be in Insert mode and it simply will not accept any of my keystrokes or attempts to esc to command mode.
Eventually it'll unfreeze and then process all the keys I pressed while it was frozen (about 1-2 minutes later).
The only thing going on in my .vimrc is a color scheme. This happens in urxvt, in an ssh shell, and in screen.
And for some reason I can't used my mouse to highlight text in vim either in all the shells previously listed.

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM.

I cannot highlight text

My HP PhotoSmart 7525 printer came with limited Acrobat function when using SCANNER mode and choosing SCAN AS .pdf. I am able to add sticky notes to a scanned file, but when I try to HIGHLIGHT TEXT, I get the change in cursor shape (as if to begin highlighting), but dragging over the text does nothing.

HP provides a "make PDF" routine in the software it provides with HP scanners. It is no Adobe's Acrobat.
PDF is an ISO Standard (since 2008). Any software house can make routines that create PDF.
Some are even worth their salt.
Anyway, typically HP also provides OCR capability with the software it provides with HP scanners.
So, use the HP routines to get an OCR'd PDF.
Then use Adobe Reader XI (which provides the full set of Comment and Drawing Markup tools) to highlight.
You need to OCR output because the Highlight tool HAS to have actual text -- an image or picture of text does not cut it.
(Scanner output is always an image / picture of what was on the paper.)

Adobe Reader cannot highlight text

Sounds like user cannot highlight contents when viewing PDF fils in Adobe Reader

That is correct for scanned pages and pdf files without reader usage rights.

Acrobat 9 Pro: Cannot copy highlighted text unless I un-highlight the text

I have highlighted text in a document. When I go to copy that same text, it selects the entire sentence. I right-click, the menu starts with "Set Status." There is no "copy" option. Neither is control-C successful. When I next paste, it pastes a previously selected text, not the text I am attempting to copy in Acrobat. The only way I have found to copy the highlighted text is to un-highlight it, and then copy it. Are there any other solutions?

Thank you! This works. I pressed "shift," then highlighted the text I want to copy, and right-click (while still holding down "shift" key), and "Copy" finally appears in the menu.

I cannot mark nor highlight text

I have digital editions and I cannot highlight nor mark any tekst. Does anyone what the solution might be

Highlighting Text in pdf Documents using Preview

Am using Snow Leopard (10.6.3) with Preview version 5.0.2.
Tried highlighting text using the instructions in Preview help. No success.
I click Annotate; chose the Highlight Colour but then appear to be unable to select the text.
Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for the hint. I think I've just discovered why I cannot do it. The pdf document I'm trying to highlight is the result of the output from a scanner. Hence it is effectively a "picture" - not text. The only thing that I have been able to do is to choose Annotate and then choose "Add Oval" or whatever and select its size and colour and then position this over the text I wish to highlight.
Because it is effectively a picture you cannot select text. I tried it on another pdf document that IS text and your solution works a treat.

For example, if a page has been scanned in (and has not had OCR performed on it) you cannot highlight the text, because Acrobat views the page as a raster image, not as text (because there are no fonts). Similarly, if a document was prepared in Auto CAD, and has no true fonts (but uses vector representations of letters), you cannot highlight the text. In Snagit, the highlight tool is actually a bow-drawing tool with the transparency set to multiply. I was able to achieve somewhat of a workaround to this problem by creating custom shapes in lllustrator, setting the blending space to multiply, and importing those files into Acrobat as custom stamps. The native transparency is retained. However, the proportions are locked, and the only way to change the color is to make a whole new stamp. It would be nice to have another type of highlighter tool in Acrobat, which mimics the bow-drawing highlight tool in Snagit.

Highlighting text won't stay on

When I highlight text it often won't stay on, and when it does and I try to move the selection, it just beeps at me and sits there. What's up?

Ok. In System Preferences > General, Apple applies the term “Highlight” instead of “Selection” color.
In Pages v5(.2), I select a passage of text and it reflects my first sentence color setting. You can leave this alone and visit any menu or side panel setting, and the selection in the body text will remain selected. It will remain selected, if you leave the Pages document and click in another application. When you return to this Pages document, click anywhere but the body text to regain document focus. The next click in the body text should be a click/hold/drag on the selection to move it, or a press of the space bar to remove the selected text. This is mouse-based behavior.
If you are using a Trackpad, whether built-in or external, you must be very careful not to brush against it while in your Pages document, or your selection focus will be lost.
I am using the above Pages on OS X 10.9.4 and do not experience a loss of selection, or an inability to drag/move or remove the selection. I have tried with both mouse and Trackpad following the preceding guidelines and cannot reproduce what you have stated.

not get the highlight tool to work. I tried countless times before posting
my query on the website. You assumed correctly; I was/am working with text.
I was using Adobe reader to highlight text in an Adobe doc I had created
and need to forward to a third party. I wanted to highlight that text in
the document that is salient to the actions I am asking of the third party.
Perhaps the highlight tool cannot be used in a previously created Adobe
document. In any event, I do appreciate your reply.

I am trying to use a find function that will search through raw data and highlight a match to a search string. Is there a way in which I can do this or do I need to setup a table and use cells?

It depends on what you want to do when you say highlight. You can select any substring from a textbox programmatically with SetCtrlAttribute setting the TextSelectionStart and TextSelectionLength properties. Remember to make the text box the active control though with SetActiveCtrl in order to see the selection. You cannot highlight by color though.

The simplest way is to use a span and set a background-color for the text you wish to highlight.
e.g.

css for above -

This would give you a gray background.

Cannot copy text from DRM-free PDF on PC

I can on my Mac. Both use Adobe Reader v11.x. I think the behaviour started when I updated to version 11 on the PC.
I cannot copy text from DRM-free PDFs that I read. I can switch to the Select Tool cursor but drag-select does not work as it did before. Double-click can highlight (and copy) a word. A triple-click can do so for a line. This is clumsy and inefficient and I cannot grab more than a line of text.
File > Properties: Security shows 'No Security'. I am stumped. Is there some detail I am missing? (I downloaded and switched to FoxIt Reader to take notes now but prefer my knowledge of navigation shortcuts in Adobe Reader.)

How are you "re-printing" the PDF? Once you have a PDF file, it shouldn't be necessary to re-create it just because you've made changes. You could simply save the file at that point. But it sounds like you're concerned about preventing changes to the comments. If that's the case, rather than reprinting, you could assign some document permissions to the PDF to prevent people from changing the content. To assign that security, choose File > Properties and click the Security tab.
I'm guessing here, because I'm not sure what process you're using, but it sounds as though that second iteration is being printed as an image. That would change the searchable text to an image, and could certainly cause the issue you're encountering.

Is it possible to add highlighted text in an iBooks interactive textbook using VoiceOver?

The only way you can add read aloud to an ibook is by using easy epub code editor. (Go to itunes and look it up). This app works on the ipad and is the ONLY app that can generate smil/xml code for read aloud. The only thing is that you cannot use it on anything but a raw epub file. You cannot use it with ibooks author or with any other file. Hope this helps.
