Cannot identify IPOD Gen 6 in ITUNES.  IPOD sometimes appears in My Computer, sometimes not

Have windows 8.1 and IPOD NANO Gen 6.  Used to work OK.  Now, cannot see Nano in Windows, when plugged in starts ITUNES but get message 'cannot reciognize device".

Hello Arthur,
It sounds like your iPod is not recognized in iTunes and in My Computer (sometimes) on your Windows computer.  I found an article with steps to address this:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
Best,

    Hi Kevin,
Have you authorized the Computer to your Apple ID?
If not, sign on to iTunes.
Then got to the Store menu option at the top of the screen (CTL+B if it is not showing), and click on it to display the dropdown, and select Authorize this computer.
If that doesn't work, then sign on your Dad's iTunes ID and repeat the Authorization process.
    Cheers,

    Hey Babetta94,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, the iPod is not recognized in iTunes. A frustrating situation to be sure. You haven't mentioned what OS the computer you are using uses. You can choose what article to use either OS X or Windows from this quoted section.

  • My 2nd Gen iPod Touch won't show up in iTunes but does appear in My Computer

When I connect my 2nd Generation iPod touch to my laptop it will not appear in iTunes. It does, however, appear in my Computer.
I have worked through all of the troubleshooting guides on the Apple Support section, and have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice.
This message appears every time I plug my iPod in, and frequently whilst it is still plugged in charging:
'MobileMe Service has stopped working.' This is a pop-up window produced by Windows, I know this is the 'service' that picks up an iPod's prescence but stopping and restarting the service does nothing. My iPod still won't show up.
Please help, I am willing to faff around a bit. Might it be a problem with Windows itself? If so, how would I go about fixing it?
    Thanks in advance,
P.S I have the latest version of iTunes, and the operating system of my iPod is 4.2.1.
My version of Windows Vista is 32-bit.

I have the same problem with my 2nd gen itouch.
I've tried other computer and my childrens iPods work on my computer so not a windows problem.  I've tried reinstalling iTunes and resetting itouch as per apple support pages but nothing, it doesn't even show on my computer. Any help greatly appreciated :-)

I am sure this problem has been brought up many times before, but my iPod is not showing up in my iTunes but does appear in my My Computer folder. hi haptic!
I had it all working fine until I formatted my pc. Now windows recognizes it but not iTunes or the updater, and I don't get any error message.
just checking. have you investigated these possibilities yet?
Strange iPod behavior when Windows confuses iPod with network drive
iPod for Windows: Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported
iPod not recognized and Windows Device Manager is empty
... another thing to check if your Device Manager is blank is this possibility:

otherwise, try steadily working through this document (apologies if you've seen this one already, but there are things in this one that you didn't explicitly mention having tried.)

  • HT1768 why can't I charge my ipod gen 2 on my new Windows 8.1 computer?

why can't I charge my ipod shuffle gen 2 on my new Windows 8.1 computer?

    Hello, jmjapple.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is some information you may find helpful when experiencing issues charging an iPod shuffle.  Make sure to test with another charging cable and avoid using adapters.
    For iPod shuffle (2nd generation)
To charge the battery using your computer:
Connect the iPod shuffle dock's USB connector into a high-power USB port on your computer.
Note: To charge a iPod shuffle battery, connect the device to a high-power USB port. Please be aware that USB keyboards and non-powered USB hubs generally do not have high-power USB ports. If you connect to a low or non-powered port, iPod shuffle will not charge.
The computer must be turned on and set to not go to sleep.
Insert the iPod shuffle into the dock.
Verify the iPod shuffle is seated securely in the dock.
Once the iPod shuffle is plugged in, it will take about 2 hours to charge the battery to 80% capacity and about 4 hours to charge it to 100%. Find out how to check the battery charge here. For information on status lights while connected, click here.Note: The computer must be turned on and set to not go to sleep or hibernate. To charge the battery using an iPod USB Power Adapter:
Connect the AC plug adapter to the power adapter (they might already be connected).
Plug the USB connector of the iPod shuffle USB Cable or Dock into the power adapter.
Plug the power adapter into a working electrical outlet.
Connect the iPod shuffle to the dock.
Verify the iPod shuffle is connected securely.

  • Itunes wont sync error message this computer is not authorized

itunes will not sync my purchased songs to my new ipod touch, i get an error message that says, "some of the songs purchased cannot be transferred, this computer is not authorized, go to store, then authorize this computer."   I have done this over and over again, I have even deauthorized and then RE authorized again and again, I still get the same message. Can someone please please please HELP ME?

I have been renting movies on my MBP and a previous MBP for years, and have always been able to transfer the rentals to an iPhone.  I always rent on the MBP and not the iPhone.  However due to a NEW authorisation problem recently I have not been able to play these movies through the Apple TV (V2) like I have been doing.  Others on the Internet have also started having this problem.  I have to resort to airplaying the movie from the MBP over to the Apple TV, which is a royal pain.  What's the point of having all this gear in the family room when I have to get up and go to the office and start the movie playing from there?!  Anyway, also recently I have not been able to move rented movies to the iPhone.  I have tried recursively chmodding the Shared folder as described here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1277
    and it didn't help.
So now, if we go on a long road trip or flight, we can't bring the rented movies on an iPhone/iPad.  This is a big problem.  No I am not going to bring the laptop on the trip.  The iTunes library is on an external disk on the LAN anyway.
Re the country comments, I'm in Canada.

  • My ipad was disabled, now working after i put in recovery mode. The computer i had the itunes in crashed , put in a new itunes now its telling me my computer is not authorized when my ipad is hooked up to transfer apps from itunes?

after i put my ipad in discover mode from being disabled, i cannot tranfer app from my itunes .i keeps saying computer not authorized. is there something i have to sign to on my ipad after discover mode?

    Hi naanek,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The following articles may be able to help you with this:
iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.
Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90 day timer. The timer must complete 90 days from the day the device was associated before it can be associated to another Apple ID.
    Cheers,
    - Judy

    Hello, Welcome to discussions.
I am sorry not much anyone here can do to assist. As 64 bit of Windows XP is not supported with iTunes. The best we can do is provide some articles that are used with normal XP in hopes that it will work again.
You may wish to update the iPod Touch on a machine that is supported with iTunes. At least then the update may apply. From there you could reconnect and Sync iPod Touch.
    Again my apologies.

  • Windows crashes when ipod syncs to itunes&blue screen appears

Hello and thank you all in advance.
This all began when I disconnected my ipod because it attempted to delete all of my songs. Long story short, I restored it because it kept saying the ipod was corrupt. when I tried to to connect to connect it to desktop, the ipod wasnt being recognized on itunes but my computer recognized it I think in disk mode or something because the folder showed calender, contacts, etc and was under /f. (This may have been due to itunes needing to be updated.)
I decide to try on my laptop and I connect the ipod and it is fine until itunes recognizes it and then a blue screen comes up and it restarts.
    It says: "Stop: OX000000023 (OXOOOE100, OXA6ECD548, OXA6ECD244, OX805278AE)"
When I tried to then use it on my desktop again, it too shut down when itunes recognized it.
I have no idea what it is but I have a feeling it is due to my laptop because it didn't shut down my desktop until after I tried with my laptop (which I defragmented the night before.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    It says: "Stop: OX000000023 (OXOOOE100, OXA6ECD548, OXA6ECD244, OX805278AE)"
that's a fairly rare one in this sort of context.
is the laptop a Windows 2000 PC? (most of the documentation on that FATFILESYSTEM error at Microsoft refers to Win 2000 boxes.)
