Cannot import any pictures into iPhoto 5

A customer has an iMac/G5/1.8Gig running 10.3.9 and iPhoto 5.x. All worked fine until a few weeks ago, when it would not accept any jpg's that she would try to import into her library. I have removed all her pictures from the library, trashed all prefs, caches and settings, basically starting fresh. I try to bring in her old iPhoto pics, jpgs, whatever, but I get an error for every single item. I can open all these pics in picture viewer fine. I have run Diskwarrior and fixed premissions, no change. I even created a new user account and tried, same thing.
HELP!!
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   256 MB RAM

Julie:
Where are those pictures located when you're attempting to import into iPhoto? Are they physically located inside the iPhoto Library folder? If so then that's the problem. iPhoto will import any file that's inside its folder. Move them to the desktop and try importing again.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar

  • Can't import any images into iPhoto

    Hello,
I am on my honeymoon and trying to offload pictures from my camera but have found that I can not import any pictures into iPhoto. I am unable to import any file, not just the ones on my camera. I have tried jpgs, gifs, and pngs from various sources and none of them import.
So far I have tried holding down option and creating a new library, deleting the plists, rebooting, and reapplying the latest iPhoto update. Does anyone else have suggestions for me to try?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I cannot import any video into my  Lightroom 5.4 (last version updated) for MAC

I cannot import any video into my  Lightroom 5.4
    (last version updated) for MAC
in the beginnig it was  working, just after installation and update... now nomore...
    I use .mp4 files
Already tried to use a new catalog, clean caches, and reinstalling
the error says "was not able to import video files"
    thanks

Arghhh! A big thank-you to hhps-photo, you just solved the myth bothering me for the last 2 months!
I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 from 4 and could not import any video. But when I downgrade to LR4 it worked again. I've tried so many other solutions suggested in the forum but none worked including cleaning cache, install divix plugin, install 32 bit version etc. Finally - it's because I blocked LR5 connecitons in my firewall !!!
So simply allowed LR5 internet connection in my firewall settings and LR5 worked like a charm!

  • Cannot import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3

Is it possible to import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3? I can't drag and drop them into iphoto folders without the "Unreadable Files" error. I have tried importing them through the iPhoto menu and still get the same results. I have tried importing the PDF files from several places such as my desktop because I wondered if the location of the original made a difference, but that doesn't seem to help. I didn't find anything when I searched for this problem here in the forum so I wondered if anyone else is having the same problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Morgan

No because I had iPhoto 4 open and tried to run the Save PDF to iPhoto on a book in that library. I think it's just the different data structure, etc.. It's just not compatible with Automator or at least that particular workflow. I tried printing to PDF from V4 and then do the Save to iPhoto from Preview with V4 open and I still get the error message. So iPhoto 4 is just not compatible with that workflow.
A workaround is to create a PDF file of the whole book and then manually save each page as a jpg file and import those. That's what I did for my first book. You could do a screen shot of each page in the preview mode and use those but the resolution will be limited to screen resolution, 72dip. You will get resolutions on the order of 150-200 dpi thru the Save As route in Preview or the Save to iPhoto automator method.
I'm sure you could create an Automator workflow that would take the PDF file and save each page as a jpg file and name it sequentially. I'll have to take a closer look at Automator soon.

  • Suddenly can't import any photos into iPhoto!

Suddenly and inexplicably, I cant import any photos into my iPhoto program. iPhoto has worked fine for years. Now, all of a sudden, no matter how I try to import them (either from my desktop, or from my digital camera), I get the error message: Couldn't create: /Volumes/name of external drive/iPhoto Library/2006/08/21/name of photo. When I click "OK" on the error message dialogue box, I then get the error message "Unreadable files: 1 The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)." I am reasonably certain that of the 250 or so J-Peg photos I'm presently trying to import, from 2 different cameras, ALL of them can't be corrupt.
First, I tried repairing my disk permissions on my G4. Then, I tried reinstalling iLife 5.0.2. Then I tried reinstalling the OSX 10.3.9 combo pack, and iPhoto 5.0.4. Then I tried again repairing my disk permissions with disk utility. All proved useless to solve the problem.
I also tried dragging my iPhoto preferences to the trash. But I found to my horror that this action completely obliterates all of my iPhoto albums and photo groupings. I did not attempt to import any new photos once I discovered this, as I was fearful doing so might render my loss of my albums permanent. So I retrieved my old preferences from the trash, thus saving my albums and groupings, but also keeping the original importing problem.
What can I do to fix this importing problem without obliterating my albums and groupings? Lots of work has gone into the grouping and categorizing of my albums and photos. Though it would be easy to reimport all of my photos, I would not want to begin to take the time to recreate all of my albums and groupings from scratch. Is there any way these groupings can be preserved? If not, there should be! It's idiotic to think that Apple might not consider all of the time the grouping of albums and songlists represents to the typical user of iPhoto or iTunes.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I've found a solution to this problem, thankfully. But it didn't come via rebuilding the iPhoto library.
I didn't want to to a manual rebuild of my original iPhoto library, since I was cautioned that it would involve losing my albums and all notations and filings I'd made concerning my photos. Before I first tinkered with the library, I made a backup copy of the original-defective library onto another external drive. Then I did one more complete "automatic rebuild" of the original/defective library, and found to my horror that the library wouldn't even open any more. It would send up an error message when I'd try to click on it's icon to open the library.
I went back to the backup copy of my iPhoto library (containing all of my albums, groupings, and etc.) and did what I hadn't thought to do in the first place: I simply attempted to import photos (my original difficulty) into this backup iPhoto library. It worked perfectly!!! All photos imported into this backed up copy as if it were the original. And now that I have trashed my "original" and totally defective former iPhoto library, this backup copy is now my new iPhoto library.
I guess whatever was wrong with the old library was shaken out just by making a backup copy. I'm afraid that's about as technical an explanation as I can offer. But maybe doing the same process will help another of you suffering from a similar problem with importing photos. Anyway, a hearty thanks to everyone who responded to this original query of mine. Mac users are truly the best!!! Cheers!

  • I imported my pictures into iPhoto and they were all there. I checked again a few minutes later and they weren't all there. What should I do?

I need to import my pictures to iPhoto, and I imported my camera roll. It was all good and all the pictures were uploaded and then I checked again a few minutes later and they weren't all there. What should I do?

Get a flashlight and see if there is something stuck in the iPhone jack you can remove and do so if you can.
If not, make a Genius Bar appointment at your neares Apple Store. Backup your iphone before you go.

  • Cannot import jpg photos into iPhoto'09

Before posting, I tried to read previous posts and Google'd the issue, but I have not found a solution that works.
Someone sent us pictures from our recent trip to Disney World. I downloaded the pictures to a folder under the Download folder. The pictures come up fine in Preview. Here are the specs. for one of the pictures -- the Document type is JPEG image. File Size: 702KB, Image Size: 2048x1536 pixels, Image DPI: 144 pixels/inch, Color model: RGB, ColorSync profile: Adobe RGB 1998 (also tried Generic RGB and sRGB EIC61966-2.1).
When, I drag the photo to the iPhoto window, I get the error popup about Unreadable Files -- "The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)
    I am running Mac OS 10.6.2 with iPhoto'09, version 8.1.1 (419).
    This is really frustrating!
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    George

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Download the Automator workflow application *+Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile+* from Toad's Cellar, unzip it, drop a couple of files on it (use backup copies) and see if those will import into iPhoto.

  • Cannot import old library into iPhoto '11

When trying to import a backup of my iPhoto '08 Library into iPhoto '11 it says the file is unreadable. Any suggestions?

you open iPhoto libraries - depress the option key and launch iPhoto and use the select library to point to the old library you want to upgrade (you will no longer be able to use it with iPhoto '08) and iPhoto '11 will open and convert it
If iPhoto '11 will not see it then it is corrupt - try iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and see if it will rebuild it so it will work

  • I cannot import any pictures anymore. Iphoto says "preparing to import" and then nothing happens. I have to force quit and shut the Macbook. Any solution?

Thanks! I am on Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Iphoto 8.1.2

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • I can't import my pictures into iPhoto?

Normally I just plug in my phone or camera, go to iPhoto, and hit import, but as of today it won't work. Earlier today I plugged in my iPhone 4, and it wouldn't let me import my photos. Thinking it was just my phone being slow I unplugged it and went on with my day. And now tonight (after being at a family party) I plugged my camera into my computer, but it won't let me import those photos either! I've never had this problem before and am wondering if anybody has any ideas as to what's wrong? Thanks!

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • I cannot import any files into iTunes

When I try to add a file to iTunes by dragging it over the iTunes window, iTunes simply does nothing, no error message, no failure, the file simply isn´t copied into iTunes. Same applies when I try to select a file via the mediathek importer (shortcut cmd+O).
I has worked before but then I upgraded to version 7.7.1 and now it simply doesn´t anything. Does anyone have the same problem?

    I'm having the same problem.
For over a week now, I have not been able to import songs into my library by dragging them on to iTunes. Whenever I do, I get the following message:
*"Attempting to copy to the disk “XXXX” failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.*
*iTunes could not save to your Music Folder because you do not have write access. Check the permissions on your Music Folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try copying this file again."*
I can still buy and play songs from iTunes, or import from a CD – but if it’s a music file from somewhere else (like a digital album I bought straight from a band’s website, and NOT through iTunes), then it won’t allow me to import it to iTunes. I was able to do it a few weeks ago, but now I get the above error message. Since then I have upgraded to iTunes 8 — however the error message started happening right before that, so it can’t be that. The one major thing that has happened to my computer since then, and which I think could possibly be the culprit here, is detailed in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1686803&tstart=0
Basically I was having trouble accessing my account, and I had to delete it and rebuild it. I’m pretty sure the problem with importing music files happened after that.
I looked online for ways to fix this problem, but none of the suggested solutions have worked:
I made sure my Music Library folder, and ALL the folders within, had “read & write” access for my account, but that didn’t work.
I used Disk Utility to perform Repair Permissions, but that didn’t work either.
So I’m at a loss for what else I should do. Any suggestions?
(FYI — my music is all located on my external hard drive).

  • Have Photoshop Elements 12, recently purchased Epson Workforce WF-7620 Printer/scanner , cannot import scanned pictures into Photoshop, does not see the Printer/scanner.

How can I get my Photoshop Elements 12 to import scanned images from my Epson Workforce WF-7620 ?. The program does not recognise the Priner/scanner.
    Bruce

Is it trying to get you to join photoshop.com? The easiest way around that is not to use the welcome screen. Go into the program files and make direct shortcuts for the organizer and/or editor and start PSE that way from now on. Photoshop.com is dead and gone so the welcome screen will hang up trying to connect to something that no longer exists.

  • I cannot import pictures into iphoto?

I tried importing them from finder&safari, but the importing page never appears! It worked yesterday. Help!
Its iPhoto 09 by the way !

    - What version of iPhoto. --> the newest (i bought my macbook air three weeks ago)
    - What version of the Operating System. --> OS X mavericks (i bought my macbook air three weeks ago)
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on. --> i import them in the iphoto...like, i connect my iphone5 to my macbook air, the iphoto opens automatically...then i select the pictures and click import...but it doenst create a new event and doesnt import any picture...and if i try again, there is a warning pop up that appears and it tells me that i have to wait because the pictures are importing (but they're not)...i also disconnected the iphone, made a reboot etc. but it appeary again and again..
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages? --> since yesterday...nothing has been changed
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue. --> reboot of iphone5, macbook air, update of the iphone5
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto? --> i use it normally, connect my iphone to my mac and until yesterday i had no problems
i hope those information can help you and me..

  • Hi, I was importing pictures into iPhoto from my sd card and suddenly iPhoto quit.  Now it just won't open.  When I click on the iphoto icon in the dock, nothing happens!  Does anyone have a solution to this problem please?

Hi, I was importing pictures into iPhoto from my sd card and suddenly iPhoto quit.  Now it just won't open.  When I click on the iphoto icon in the dock, nothing happens!  Does anyone have a solution to this problem please?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does then your current library has been damaged and should be repaired: apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
