Cannot import anything to iPhoto

Hi,
I've seen this problem in various guises but not an exact match for my problem.
iPhoto will not import any images at all. Anything I try - from my camera, iphone, off the web etc. gives the same message:
'The following file could not be imported. (the import failed)'
I have tried using time machine to restore the application from the point where I successfully loaded a photo - no joy.
Hope someone can help.
Mat

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Where is your Library?
As a test:
Create a new Library: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and see if you can import to that one.

  • Aperture cannot import anything from iPhoto and other bugs!!

Aperture is buggy. Recently, I just updated Mac OS X to 10.4.5 and also updated iLife 06. Now I cannot import anything from iPhoto. I tried import images from iphoto or import iphoto library, both not working. I can import images from other directories but jut could not see anything display under iphoto library directory. Trying to use import iphoto library, click choose and then nothing happens.
If you create a smart web gallery, all photos will be automatically duplicated.

I used Pacifist.app to find iPhoto in the iLife '06 install package and then installed the app in the default location replacing the bundle that was there.
the normal method gave me an install error.
Thank you to the person who discovered this.
I was going nuts trying. I have 6 iphoto libraries with 30,000 photos in total and some would import fine and others would not. couldn't tell the difference between them and had forgotten the update. just got a new iMac intel and wasn't paying attention. Causality

  • Cannot import anything

    Like the subject says...
I cannot import photos via drag-n-drop either from the finder or from iPhoto in the media library.
Similarly, I cannot drag and drop any movies (which open fine in Quicktime)
Did a search here but couldn't really find an answer.
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Anyone?
I literally cannot import anything new. Only some existing content from the previous version can be seen, but I also can't seem to edit or work with that.

  • Import problem II (cannot import anything)

I can see and play my clip in the Import windows.
I can drag and drop thing from the finder but my movie from my Sony NXCAM AVCHD cannot be drag and drop.
I'll try to import my media from Sony «software tools»... but i prefer work with FCP.
I tried in a new project, in new event and in a new library but nothing work.
    Thanks for your help !

Yes, my window is active. I can browse in it, play the clip and change settings . My 1st screen shot is odd because I used «Grab» to capture the window. My active application was Grab instead FCPX... There is the good one.
I did trash prefs and repair permissions.

  • Cannot import or see iphoto slide exported movie in imovie

I made a movie from slides in iphoto. I then decided that a caption might be nice, and went to imovie to add it. iMovie '08 is not able to read the file. It is a .mov, and other movies it reads are .mov, so I cannot fathom why it cannot be read. If I use import, the title is not highlighted - as if it is not a recognized format. QT reads the movie just fine of course. iDVD sees the file just fine too.

I concur, I also exported a slideshow from iphoto and cannot import into iMovie08. Looking at the info for the .mov file its an MPEG-4 file which is supposed to be supported so this is not good. ... unless there is some trick (which we shouldnt have to do of course).

  • Cannot import files into iPhoto

I have home movie files on an external hard drive that were downloaded there from my old Windows XP computer.  They are ".mov", ".mpg", and ".avi" file extensions.  When I try to import them into iPhotos on my iMac, running OS X Mavericks, I get a dialog box stating that they cannot be imported.  How do I get these movies onto my iMac.  Thank you for your help!

There must be compatible with Quicktime formats:
Media formats supported by QuickTime Player
If you can open the movies with Quicktime, save or export within the app to a compatible format. Otherwise you'll have to use another 3r party software to convert those movies, or use another player to view the movies without converting them, but does will not fix your issue with iPhoto.

  • Cannot import Raw1 to iPhoto -Help!

I have used Raw format and have no problems importing to iPhoto ‘09. I now tried Raw1 (Canon 50D) and cannot import. Can use image capture to bring to desktop but still unable to import into iPhoto ‘09. Elements 6 has no problem with this format. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

sRAW is not an option for iPoto at tis time
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA25114?viewlocale=en_US
You will either have to accept the size limitation of the RAW choice, get larger memory cards or shoot JPEG
You can suggest support to Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
I have read that Canon will not release the specs and that until they do Apple will not provide support - but that is purely rumor

  • Cannot do anything in iphoto

All of the sudden, when I open iphoto, the options below the menus: file, edit, photos, share, view, are almost all gray. I cannot see my photos anywhere, nor can I do anything IN the program. In other words, it is as if everything is happening off screen. I can only open my photos directly from my hard drive. I don't know which version of iphoto I have either...
Sometimes I can't even close the program and I have to force quit.
I tried opening the program while holding down apple+control, and the some of the gray menu options showed up black and I was able to quit the program, but I still cannot find my photos within the program or do anything with the photos.
    Please help.

As a first attempt at a fix delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and try iPhoto again. If still no luck run the three fixes below in order as needed:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open Photo window
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Cannot import photos to iPhoto

    Hi, everyone!
I am experiencing iPhoto unexpectedly quitting for a long time. Each time I plug in my iPhone 5s and it will read my photos. It can read all my photos from the process bar. However, it will go to furher processing before I can do any uploading work. After waiting for a long time (about 10 min), it will suddenly quits. And the problem has lated for half month. I tried other iPhone with my pro, it doesn't show the same problem and I also tried to connect my 5s with other mac it also works fine. Only connecting my 5s with my mac pro, the problem appears.
I have successfully uploaded photos from 5s to this pro, from half month before, it suddenly fails every time. Feels really sad:(
My iphone has a lot of photos (about 30,000). Does it will affect the processing? I see someone saying to clear the caches. But I did not see any caches I can clear. I also tried to restart my iPhone and my mac pro. Nothing helpsTT Is there anyone experiencing the same problem?
    Do u have the solutions?
Really appreciated if you can help! Because I found rather troublesome to use the image capture. Because it cannot separate the photos by date automatically>< I want to import my photos to MBP and to release some storage in my iphone!

  • Cannot import photos into iPhoto

I can't get my .jpg files to import into iTunes. Everytime I try to import one it says "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain Valid data).

    Hi Lori,
I am having the same (i think) problem as el pinguino. With many of the photos I have on CD's I am getting this error for most of the photos... iphoto will usually import a few of the photos. I tried dragging onto the desk top first, but an error came up saying "you cannot copy 'name of file i'm trying to copy' to the destination because its name is the same as the name of an item on the destination, except for the case of some characters." Do you have any thoughts on how I might deal with this? Or does anyone else?

  • Cannot import photos to iphoto because it says there was an error downloading an image.

I cannot access my photos through image capture either. I'm trying to import from my iphone 5 with the latest update to a macbook running on 10.6.8.

if neither iPhoto nor Image Capture can import from your iPhone, the problem may be with the iPhone. Is the iPhone properly charged? Are you using the original cable?
    Restart or reset the iPhone:
See this page:  restart your device  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    reset your device
Try to transfer one of the photos by Wi-Fi - put it into a Dropbox or use the Photo Stream. Then you can try, if iPhoto can open the transfered photo, and you can check, if the photos are problematic -wrong color profile or something.

  • Cannot import photos into iPhoto - Unreadable format????

When I try to import photos from my Original iPhone to iPhoto (software 3.1.3) I receive an error message that says :
    Unreadable format:
The following files could not be imported. (The file is an unrecognized format.)
    IMG_0279.JPG
And lists all file names. I have imported pics from the phone many times in the past with no issues.
Please help! I really want to import these pics.

Thank you for your advice. I tried image capture and it will not import either. I know that I can email myself the photos and that is fine. My concern is that not one photo will import. I just took a new one to test. So I guess there is an issue with my phone or camera.
