Cannot import clips into imovie from samsung HMX-F80 camcorder

Hi there,
does anybody know how to import clips to iMovie from a Samsung HMX-F80 camcorder? It imports some old clips but not recent ones.
Thanks!

  • Cannot import clips into iMovie 08

I have a few clips that were spliced together with QTPro and now I cannot import them into iMovie08. I have checked the movies themselves and I do not see any specific info that would cause a problem.
I cannot drag and drop the clips into iMovie nor can I use the import function, as the .mov files are greyed out.
This didn't happen before I upgraded to QT Pro.

    AAC, MPEG-4
For the moment will assume you mean QT MPEG-4 here and not something like Microsoft's non-standard variation. (If not QT then please advise.) In the case that it is QT MPEG-4, did any of the source files contain extraneous tracks like an iPhoto slideshow with its "Tween" track. Such extraneous tracks are not understood by iMovie '08 and it will reject their import. If so, then use QT Pro to delete the extraneous track(s)

  • Cannot import photos into iMovie from iPhoto

I have used iMovie for years to make a video (and then a DVD) from my photographs.  The photographs are all in iPhoto events.  In the past, i create a new movie, select photographs for the iMovie browser and drag some of them into the movie work area.  The problem which just came up is that if I drag in 10 pictures, all of the pictures in the movie show as the same image.  They have the correct mixture of portrait and landscape according to what I was dragging in.  If I try to "run" the movie, I just get a blank screen.  I have tried:
    1. Deleting all the pictures and dragging them in again.
    2. Restarting the program. (iMovie).
    3. Rebooting the Mac Book.
    4. Reintalling iLive 11
    5. Deleting the movie and creating a new one.
I had the problem a few week ago and it went away.  Other movies in the library are wokring fine.  I don't have a clue of what to try next.

You can do this with a free app called MPEG Streamclip and a $20 quicktime component from Apple.

  • I cannot ad photos into iMovie from the ipad

I cannot ad photos into iMovie from the ipad photo roll, please help

What do you mean " back up my photos or Apps"?
The photo sync is one way - computer to ipad.
You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • Trouble importing video into iMovie from External HD

I have video from my Panasonic Full HD camera.  I have already transferred the video off the camera and onto an external hard drive.  When I try to import the video into iMovie those files are grayed out.  Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?
It is all my video of my son's first year since birth!

It is very important that when you transferred the video off the camera, you kept all files and folders from the camera. If you did, you can open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA ARCHIVE and navigate to the folder that contains the contents that you removed from the camera.
In the future, open iMovie and use FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA. This will bring up an import screen. There you can click a button that says Create Camera Archive. This will automatically get you all the files you need off the camera, and it gives you a good backup.
You can also import directly into iMovie from this screen.
If you did not preserve the contents of the camera - for example, you just copied the .mts files, but did not copy the rest of the files and folders, you will need a third party app to convert the .mts files so that iMovie can read them. Two apps that people use for this are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. They are pricey, but if you did not copy the full camera contents, this may be your best bet.

  • Can not import video clips into iMovie from Photos

I have some clips that I copied from my GoPro to my iPad via the Apple Camera Connection Kit.  When I open iMovie there are icons for the clips but iMovie will not import them.  The format is H.264.  Is there a way of tricking iMovie?

Here is the problem, Im making a movie, I took all the video on my Kodak V610 Camera. I have the clips in .mov format. The clips are stored on an external disk in my iPhoto library.
Your digital camera probably uses MPEG-4 video (compatible with iMovie '08 in combination with µ-Law 2:1 compressed audio (which is not iMovie '08 compatible). While using the MPEG Streamclip MPEG-4 conversion will work, the prefered methof would be to use the QT "Movie to MPEG-4" option in QT Pro (quicker if you have it) or GarageBand (via the "Expert Settings option) to "pass through" you video while converting the audio to AAC (MPEG-4 audio). A mono setting of 64 Kbps with a 44.1 KHz sampling rate is a bit of "overkill" with respect to the original audio but will be quality compatible with what iMovie uses for its output presets.

  • Can't import videos into imovie from movie files

I am having difficulty importing .mov files into iMovie.  When I go to file>import>videos, I can find my .mov files I want to move to iMovie.  It says it is converting.  The files show up in my iMovie folders in Finder but no thumbnails are showing up in iMovie.  Any suggestions?

The audio codec looks fine. The video codec is h.264 which is usually good for iMovie, but there can be variants that iMovie cannot handle. Another interesting thing about the h.264 is that it is anamorphic, which means it stores as 1440x1080, but simulates 1920x1080 by using rectangular pixels.
If I were trying to make this work, I would try converting it using a free tool called MPEG Streamclip, available here. I use the Beta version. http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip into MPEG Streamclip. Then click FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. For Compression, choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Leave the audio codec unchanged.
    For Frame size, choose 1920x1080.
Check Interlaced Scaling, and for Field Dominance use Upper Field First, but if it looks bad, you can try checking "Deinterlace Video".
Click Make Movie. Give it a name and store it where you can find it.
Now try importing into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.

  • Has anyone tried to import video into iMovie from a DSLR camera?  I can't get it to work

My problem is simple.... as should be the answer!
I recently tried to import video from a dslr into iMovie but all I get is rubbish.  What am I doing wrong?
    HELP!

The only simple answer  without more information is RTM for camera and iPad. You are in the iOS forum so you must be trying to input to an ipad. Tell us what camera, what video format and exact destination.

  • Hi, Importing video into iMovie from Windows XP

HI, Can anyone give me advice or point me to an instruction manual on how to import videos from Windows XP into iMovie. I just bought a new iMac and would like to include some of my old videos. thanks!

Can anyone give me advice or point me to an instruction manual on how to import videos from Windows XP into iMovie.
I would probably use MPEG Streamclip (free) for this. There are versions for both Mac and PC platforms and if the PC version works the same as the Mac version, it will allow you to convert your files to DV, AIC, Motion-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 video with Linear PCM, MPEG-4 (AAC), or other audio compression formats know to be accepted by iMovie '08.

  • Cannot Import Back into LR4 from PS

I've been working on my macbook pro for years now exporting files from LR into PS, doing my edits, then saving and having the file automatically import back into LR.
I just upgraded to an iMac and have everything set up, but, now, when I do the EXACT same process, I recieve the error "Could not save as "IMG_1445.tif" because write access was not granted." when trying to save my file in Photoshop.
I have never had this problem before...Any help would be greatly appreciated! It seems pointless to have a workflow that doesn't work!!!
If it has anything to do with it...I also get an error before exporting from LR: "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw Plug-in version 7.4 for full compatibility"
I checked my software and it is up to date. Why would I receive this error when exporting?
    Thanks for any insight!!!

Thanks for the tip. I actually figured it out by luck. Turns out that for some reason my external drive was showing as "read only" on the iMac even though it has has full permissions on the MacBook. So, I went to the Seagate support page and downloaded their Mac DNG file for the drive. Works perfectly now!
Thanks for the response, I appreciate the support!

  • I cannot import video into iMovie 11 -

I am using iMovie 11 for the first time - trying to capture video footage off my Panasonic NV-DS38 DV Tapes. The Event Screen only shows the screen shot from  Facetime HD Camera on top of Monitor Screen. How do I set it up to show the video footage off the camcorder. The Camcorder  is connected to the iMac by cable (small firewire socket on camcorder / USB socket into back of iMac). Something very simple that i amclearly doing wrong. Grateful for any help.

For a DV Tape-based camcorder, ou must use a Firewire Cable. The USB cable is only useful for moving still images that you have taken on the camcorder into iPhoto, but USB will not work for DV.
You will need a 4 pin to 6 pin Firewire Cable if your Mac only supports Firewire 400.
Most newer Macs support Firewire 800, so you would need a 4 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable.
Firewire cables are available for reasonable prices here. http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10301
In addition to getting the right cable, make sure your camcorder is plugged in to wall power, not batteries only.

  • How do I import movies into Imovie from my HTC sensation?

I have an HTC sensation.  am trying to use I-movie for the first time.  My flip videos are all good, but the movies that i emailed to myself from my android are not compatible with i-movie (even though they are .mov files).  is there a program that can transfer them so they are usable in imovie?

    Did you try the
Menu Bar -> File -> Import -> Movies
command in iMovie?  From the dialog box, locate and select the movie (or movies) you want to import.

Is it possible to do this?
    If so how

That depends. Streaming video can not be saved as a file on the hard drive and can't be imported.
