Cannot import layered PSD into DVDSP4

This seems to be an intermittent issue where a layered PSD will show up as either correct, where you can manipulate the layers, or just as a Quicktime Image with no layers. There seems to be no reason what causes the PSD to show up either way. I've tried standard D1 (720/480 or 486) and neither work. Is this an issue with Lion? I've never had problems with this before. I'm in the middle of a project that I have to get this working... please anyone... help!!!

I just created a PSD in PS5.1 with 6 layers and brought it into DVDSP 4.2.2 running under 10.7.3 and dropped it on the menu. The layers show up fine.
So what does my experiment prove? Nothing really other than what you have said already. It works.
But, apparently, not for every file. So, the difficulties lie somehow in those files that are showing up as un-layered.
If you save the layers out and bring them back into a new PS document, does it import?
fwiw - I also saved the same file as a TIFF with layers and it shows up in DVDSP as an unlayered file.

edit -Is there a particular effect or element on a layer that is forcing DVDSP to collapse the layers? You could try deleteing layers from your non-working psd file to see if it will import without that layer.

  • Cannot import layered PSD

Last night I updated to OSX 10.10.2, this morning I dragged a layered PSD file into the project pane, held the item there as previously had opened a menu asking me to import the layered project or a single layer, nothing happens.
I just re-installed Motion5 and nothing has changed. I cannot import the layers of a Photoshop file.
    Any suggestions?

Along with the other suggestions, you should set the following in PS prefs:
You don't always have to rasterize layers. If you create Smart Objects for layers with adjustments, etc. you can retain all of those items within the smart object. Other applications should "see" the smart object as a rasterized layer.

  • A problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash

    Hi.
There's a problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash.
If I import a layered PSD file, some part the color of the lower layer is shown at the edge of objects or shadows. Instead, if I crop each layers first and import them, there's no problem.
If the higher layer has brush or transparent effects, it becomes worse.
    Any help with this problem?
    Thanks.

How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

  • Need help--cannot import hotel.dmp into chinese characterset server

    I'm from china.Because my oracle8i use

    this file into my oracle.
    Has anybody can help me?
    Thanks you very much!!

I seem to recall that SQL*Loader was capable of doing these kinds of language translations for you. You needed to account for machine language, character set, and datatype all of which could be manipulated either via FTP parameters when a file was transferred (tell ftp not to convert between machine languages, tell sqlloader the machine language being used, tell it the character set, etc.) I found examples of this by scouring the internet for sqlloader examples, but unfortunately I no long have then handy.
    Good luck.

  • I cannot import any video into my  Lightroom 5.4 (last version updated) for MAC

I cannot import any video into my  Lightroom 5.4
    (last version updated) for MAC
in the beginnig it was  working, just after installation and update... now nomore...
    I use .mp4 files
Already tried to use a new catalog, clean caches, and reinstalling
the error says "was not able to import video files"
    thanks

Arghhh! A big thank-you to hhps-photo, you just solved the myth bothering me for the last 2 months!
I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5 from 4 and could not import any video. But when I downgrade to LR4 it worked again. I've tried so many other solutions suggested in the forum but none worked including cleaning cache, install divix plugin, install 32 bit version etc. Finally - it's because I blocked LR5 connecitons in my firewall !!!
So simply allowed LR5 internet connection in my firewall settings and LR5 worked like a charm!

  • Importing layered pdfs into Photoshop

I'm a landscape architect and use Photoshop to colour up my CAD designs. It is a big time saver if I could carry across the separate layer information in my CAD plan to within Photoshop - it would make it much quicker to colour in just the paths, for example.
At the moment I do this by creating a series of separate pdfs from autocad, each showing different layer(s), then overlay these in photoshop. This works but is rather cumbersome.
It is possible to create layered pdfs automatically within autocad, keeping the cad layers separate as layers in the pdf. However, so far as I can see, there isn't a way to get photoshop to read in that pdf and use it to create its own layered psd file.
Maybe there is a nifty file converter routine out there if photoshop really does not support this. Any ideas gratefully received!
    Thanks, Matt.

    Yes, thanks for that.
Autocad 2010/11 does indeed produce pdfs with a mapping of cad layers to pdf layers. So, for instance, I can have all the trees on a CAD layer and they appear on a separate pdf layer. I can switch visibility of the pdfs layers on and off within Acrobat.
Actually, you have been able to do this since about 2006 if you have both acrobat professional and autocad. When you install acrobat it creates a little menu bar add-on inside autocad for creating pdfs, and an option within that allows preservation of layer information.
What it seems I cannot do is to ask Photoshop to import that structured pdf file and keep the layered structure. Which seems a little daft given that Adobe make Photoshop and are the originators of the pdf format.
Oh, and yes, you are right that it is possible to manually save multiple pdfs out of autocad, each one having different layers visible, then reassemble them within Photoshop to re-create the layered structure. That is what I was describing as our current approach in my question. As I pointed out there, it is rather laborious. The sort of thing you would rather hope software could do automatically. Never mind!

    Matt

  • Importing layered .psd's - DSP 4.0 thinks its a quicktime single layer file

I'm trying to import a layered psd, menu buttons for a custom menu. studio pro 4.0 doesn't recognize my photoshop CS2 files and imports them as quicktime files, which of course doesn't import the layers. The manuals says DSP wants an independent 24bit format for each layer. Problem is Photoshop doesn't have a 24bit setting, only 8, 16 and 32. I'm stumped. How do I get a layered psd to be recognized by studio pro?
    thanks,
    George
    PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Do you get the PSD into the assets, and then fail to place it as a layered background? If that's the case are you dragging it into place, or choosing the layers that should show for each button combination? Also, was it a layered menu you made?
If it doesn't get into assets in the first place, have you used any advanced folder arrangements in the Photoshop document? Can you save out as Photoshop 6 compatible, or something like that?
Don't worry about it being 32 bit when 24 bit was asked for, it should still work. But perhaps make sure that the Mode in Photoshop was RGB, and not CMYK.

  • Missing color when I import layered psd in FCPX

I just created a simple .psd file with a background and two layers of text. I have added effects on the layers to give color and texture to the text.Looks nice in Photoshop, but these effect do not seem to follow when imported in FCPX. I just have plain back text.
Is it possible that I cannot import those effect in FCPX?

Duplicate your psd file and open the copy. Rasterize all the layers with effects, then save. Import the copy and see if that works.

  • Cannot import 1 clip into iMovie

I'm a newbie so I'll try to give as much detail as possible on my current problem and hope some more experienced users can offer some suggestions.
This has been a recurring problem since using iMovie '09.  I'm using '09 on an iMac with OS-X.  When I try to import video clips from my card reader, iMovie will import SOME but not others.  These were all taken at the same time from the same event (a concert) so the formatting didn't change.  The one clip I'm really struggling with right now is the one I need the most - it's quite big - about 60 minutes of video but I have a new external 3 TB hard drive so space isn't an issue.
No matter how many times I try, I get a "Cannot import 1 clip" message when trying to add this one to iMovie.  The thing is - that message occurs at different points.  At first, I would get it within 5 minutes of importing.  Sometimes, I get it halfway through and once, I almost got to the end of importing the whole 60 minutes before that message popped up.
I've had this problem in the past with other video clips but after rebooting and trying again (sometimes several times) - eventually it DOES import.  I can play this problem clip within iMovie from the reader, play it in the camcorder and on the TV and there's no problem with it.  Why won't iMovie import THIS clip but will import other clips around it?  (Other clips are quite large too!)
Before I invest in upgrading to iLife '11 - I want to feel comfortable that iMovie isn't going to keep giving me these same headaches.  As I said before, this problem has occurred in the past with other events.  After trying and trying many times, I've finally gotten those clips imported.  But with this one, I don't seem to be making any headway.
Any advice would be appreciated.  And if you need more info, please let me know and I'll do my best.
    Thank you!

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • Cannot import .mov files into FCE

I bought a new Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera to use to finish a video project because my right hand is in a cast and I cannot use my HD video camera. Unfortunately for me, I have a deadline to meet.
I shot video at 720p and tried to import it into FCE 4.0.1 to edit using Log and Transfer and got the warning message, '"863_0156.MOV" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.' I also shot video at 1080p and, of course, cannot import it into FCE either using Log and Transfer.
I am still a relatively new FCE user and would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. I looked in Tom's book (FCE 4 Editing Workshop)on page 73. Will Quicktime Pro 10 convert the files? If so what is the procedure?
I have seen similar questions in this discussion forum on importing .mov files, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me. How can I convert the .mov files to get Log and transfer in FCE to accept them?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
This pocket camera record H.264. So the material as to be converted to a format supoported natively by FCE as Apple Intermediate Codec 1080. Search this forum with +MPEG streamclip+ keyword.

  • Cannot Import Deep Hierarchy into MDM?

    Hi All,
According to the MDM online document of importing source data into
hierarchy table, it seems that the maximum number of levels of the
hierarchy is fixed. The example used by the document is like the
    following:
    Field1___Field2___Field3
    A
    A________B
    A________B________C
That means, the maxium number of levels would only be 3. If we use the
following table in the data source to represent a deep hierarchy, it seems
that MDM cannot import it correctly:
    Name___Parent
    A
    B______A
    C______B
    D______C
    E______D
Can you confirm whether this is the fact? If not, how can we import a
    deep heirarchy into MDM?
    Thanks + Best Regards

    Jerome,
I'm not an expert in this, but I have been able to create more than 3 levels of hierarchy using a code structure (for example):
    <u>CODE                       DESC</u>
    1000000000     FOOD
    1010000000     DRINKS
    1010200000     ALCOHOLIC
    1010201000     BOTTLED
    1010201010     HEINEKEN
    1010201020     SHIRAZ
    1010202000     CANNED
    1010202010     CARLSBERG
    1010202020     KRONENB
    1010202030     TIGER
    1010300000     NON-ALCOHOLIC
I was able to create a Hierarchy Field within Import Manager which derives the parent-child relationship from the above code structure.
    Or import file with structure:
    HIERARCHY01
    FOOD                                                              1000000000
    FOOD\DRINKS                                                  ....
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC                               ....
    FOOD\DRINKS\NON-ALCOHOLIC
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\BOTTLED
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\CANNED
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\BOTTLED\HEINEKEN
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\CANNED\KRONENB
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\CANNED\CARLSBERG
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\CANNED\TIGER
    FOOD\DRINKS\ALCOHOLIC\BOTTLED\SHIRAZ
    and use Split into Hierarchy
    Just my 2 cents!
    Cheers,
    Foh

  • When importing the PSD into reflow it looks messed up

  • Cannot import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3

Is it possible to import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3? I can't drag and drop them into iphoto folders without the "Unreadable Files" error. I have tried importing them through the iPhoto menu and still get the same results. I have tried importing the PDF files from several places such as my desktop because I wondered if the location of the original made a difference, but that doesn't seem to help. I didn't find anything when I searched for this problem here in the forum so I wondered if anyone else is having the same problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Morgan

No because I had iPhoto 4 open and tried to run the Save PDF to iPhoto on a book in that library. I think it's just the different data structure, etc.. It's just not compatible with Automator or at least that particular workflow. I tried printing to PDF from V4 and then do the Save to iPhoto from Preview with V4 open and I still get the error message. So iPhoto 4 is just not compatible with that workflow.
A workaround is to create a PDF file of the whole book and then manually save each page as a jpg file and import those. That's what I did for my first book. You could do a screen shot of each page in the preview mode and use those but the resolution will be limited to screen resolution, 72dip. You will get resolutions on the order of 150-200 dpi thru the Save As route in Preview or the Save to iPhoto automator method.
I'm sure you could create an Automator workflow that would take the PDF file and save each page as a jpg file and name it sequentially. I'll have to take a closer look at Automator soon.

  • Cannot Import some iTunes into FCE - not a standard file?

Trying to import some music into FCE from iTunes.
Browsing window only will highlight certain music as "standard files" and only import those songs. Others are"greyed out" and when I switched the files list to "all files" and try to import then I get error message "1 files recognized 0 files access denied 1 unknown"

Ahhhhhhh! It's starting to make sense now. If the CD was properly formatted as an "Audio CD", the tracks should be recorded at 44.1khz. You can use QuickTime Pro, iTunes, SoundTrack Pro (any several other apps) to convert the tracks from the CD to AIF, 48khz, 16 bit Stereo.
If you use iTunes to do it, make sure you set the encoder to AIF (with the proper settings) in iTunes preferences before you begin.
Note that AIF and AIFF are the same - you may see it listed either way, depending on the app.
