Cannot import movies

Hello. Suddenly this morning, since upgrading itunes to version 11.0.1, I can no longer import m4v files into the library. I have been using Handbrake to convert dvd's into files for the ipad, and it's worked great, until today. Anyone else?

Works fine for me in the way you suggest. Some people have reported that new movies get placed under the new Nome Movies section if you just drag and drop them in. When you drag the movie file over do you see a progress meter at the top?
I also find that using subler as an intrerim step to tag and then put into itunes means they always show up where they should.

What version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the recent updates? What operating system?
Does this happen for all .mov files or just some? Has this ever worked before? What version of QuickTime do you have installed?

Cannot import .mov video files into Premiere Pro CS4

Hi Everyone,
I have Premiere Pro CS4 and cannot import .mov files into my project. When I try Premiere freezes up and has to be closed. I'm running Windows 7 and have a Gateway DX4300-11 with a Quad-Core AMD processor with 8 Gigs of ram although the Adobe CS4 programs only seem to recognize 4 Gigs at startup. How do I get Premiere to import .mov files?

What is the CODEC in your MOV file(s)? MOV is but a "wrapper," like AVI. This ARTICLE will give you some background. It could be that you just need the proper CODEC, or it could be that it is a Mac-only CODEC, and then you will need for the producer to Export in another CODEC, that is PC-compatible.

Cannot import .mov files into FCE

I bought a new Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera to use to finish a video project because my right hand is in a cast and I cannot use my HD video camera. Unfortunately for me, I have a deadline to meet.
I shot video at 720p and tried to import it into FCE 4.0.1 to edit using Log and Transfer and got the warning message, '"863_0156.MOV" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.' I also shot video at 1080p and, of course, cannot import it into FCE either using Log and Transfer.
I am still a relatively new FCE user and would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. I looked in Tom's book (FCE 4 Editing Workshop)on page 73. Will Quicktime Pro 10 convert the files? If so what is the procedure?
I have seen similar questions in this discussion forum on importing .mov files, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me. How can I convert the .mov files to get Log and transfer in FCE to accept them?

This pocket camera record H.264. So the material as to be converted to a format supoported natively by FCE as Apple Intermediate Codec 1080. Search this forum with +MPEG streamclip+ keyword.

Cannot import .MOV files with Premiere Elements 12: generic error. Using Windows 8.1 (64b)

This question was already on the forum for older version of Premiere and Windows. I'm making my videos (.MOV format) with the digital camera Casio EX-ZR400.
I have no any problems with Photoshop Elements 12 for pictures produced by this camera.

What is the source of your .mov file..(brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video)......what is the video and audio compression and frame rate?
Are you working with the 12.1 Update of 12? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. Both QuickTime and Premiere Elements need to be run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges. Are you doing that?
Narrowing things down
Are all files with the .mov file extensions the only video files that you cannot import into the program? Any exceptions?
When you open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace and go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, does that choice have its presets?

Cannot import .mov files (from JVC HM100) into After Effects CS6

Hi,
I am trying to import .mov files into After Effects CS6. Unfortunately, when I try to import the .mov files, AE tells me "After Effects error: 210_0001_01.mov cannot be imported -- this '.mov' file is damaged or unsupported." The file works in Premiere CS6. I have the latest Quicktime, and even with Quicktime 7 Pro installed, I got that same result. I would appreciate any advice on this problem.

Your footage is currently a long-gop codec, which may be giving Mocha fits. So instead of Dynamic Link, you may want to simply export the clip in question from Premiere using a lossless codec. Remember to leave handles on the footage.
To get back to Premiere you would then render in a lossless codec. It's not very handy, but it will get the job done.
Give it a try and see what happens.

Cannot Import .mov files anymore

At first I was ablt to import .mov file into iMovie and do various things with them but now I can't. These are just movies made from my Digital Camera. I have a Nikon P1.
When I try to import them I get a "Cannot Import File: Unknown Error" or something like that.
Does anyone know why that might be doing this. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Note: Bare with me I am new to Macs but I am quickly learning...I loved that I switched to Mac and don't regret it.

you will find that there are probably some files in that folder that FCP does not like, in the import dialogue box, there is a choice at the bottom left
"Show:"
it is possible that you have it set to "All Files"
change this to "Standard Files"
If there is a file that is then greyed out, eg. a PowerPoint file, you need to create the assets in a format that FCP can recognise, or as David suggests, get the codec.

Cannot import .mov files generated by Toast

Hi All,
I have a strange issue : I had old HI8 tapes that I got transferred on DVDs (VOB files). I then converted these files in HD DV with Toast 10, which generated AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) files encapsulated in mov that I can perfectly read with Quicktime X (I run SL 10.6.2). The issue is I just cannot import these files in IMovie 09 (the corresponding files are "greyed" in the finder...)
Does anyone has a clue on why this happens?

I have kind similar issue ,I try to convert .mts from canon in toast 9 to .mov but for iMovie 09 it's not good...there is slight difference in some parameters of AIC what iMovie use on it's own when you do import directly from camcorder /this codes is that Litte Endian/ and output of tast9 is /AIC ,ACC/...so all my files on hard drive are not importable for now ,looks like the compatibility of .mov container is terrible...it's frustrating I tried also voltaic converter and few more but they output is useless...it's rough & cranky...so I'm looking for solution as well....

Cannot import movie

Updated itunes on my Mac Pro 3.1 and I cannot add (import) any MP4 movies into itunes 11
Previous I was able to drag and drop. Now I cannot drag and drop nor use the menu to import the file.
All movies have been run through Handbrake with Apple TV 3 preset.
What did Apple do to the new update that itunes will NOT import my movies
Songs will import via the menu but will NOT drag and drop.

I have also found out that I can drag and drop a movie that was converted from AVI to MP4 but cannot import an MKV file that was converted to MP4
Can someone explain that please.

Cannot import Movie into Event

My camera records MP4 files. In the past, when I create an Event, and choose 'Import Movies,' iMovie would convert and import. Lately, it goes through the motions (and takes just as long), but when it is done, there is nothing in the event. If I go through the process 4 or 5 times, it may work.

Cannot import .MOV files into PE11

I am using PE11 on a Windows 7 OS laptop. When I attempt to import .MOV files taken with a Kodak Easyshare z980 digital camera, I get the following error screen "The importer reported a generic error." According to iTunes, the .MOV files are stereo, 320x420, 753kbps, using H.264 video codec. Please help. I tried updating my codec, but it appears H.264 is an older standard and it is not easy to figure out exactly how to update that codec correctly, and safely. Thanks

Cannot import MOV files

Can anyone please suggest what I am doing wrong ?
I use Final Cut Express v 4.0.1 to edit my films, then export as a Quicktime movie *.mov file. The file shows ok in Finder\Movies\Quicktime exports. When I open iDVD (v 7.0.4) the movie does not appear in the Media Browser and therefore cannot be imported into the project. How do I import it ? Please ? I need to make a DVD of the movie.

Note it ends by saying "A QuickTime file that references your Final Cut Pro movie is created on your hard disk. This is the file you will add to your iDVD project. When you are ready to add it to your iDVD project, you can simply drag the file from your hard disk directly into iDVD. "
It also applies to Final Cut Express.
That's what you need to do - drag the file from your hard disk directly into iDVD

It sounds like the kind of error one my get if the QuickTime
movie was a "by
Reference" movie rather than an all inclusive or standalone
movie. The
reference it is looking for is an OMF file. OMF or Open Media
Format files
are created by a number of programs including Pro-Tools and
Avid Media
Composer. If you are exporting from one of these programs,
that may be the
problem.

Hi, I recently re-installed 10.3.9 (about 2 days ago).
imovie was working just fine until i opened it this morning only to find I couldn't import anything other than picture files.
I get this message when i try.
"can't open file (insert file name here) skipping it and continuing"
When i re-open imovie i get a message telling me
"there are x amount of files that don't belong in this project would you like to move to trash"
I'm given the option to leave files alone or trash unused files.

When you reinstalled 10.3.9 did you repair permissions before and after, as well as repairing your hard disk with Disk Utility on your Install Disk?
After which I tried doing what was suggested but still have the same problem. I even tried using pacifist.
Is there an newer version of imovie available for download?

Updated DVD studio pro 4.2.1 and now I cannot import .mov files?

I just updated to OS 10.5.7 and DVD studio pro 4.2.1 and now can only open half my previous project files (yet others open fine still done at the same time) and also can no longer import any 1920x1080i HDV files exported from Final Cut Pro, where I could before, if I didn't want to deal with the 17 hour compressor m2v export. On a deadline and of course the 2 files I need to update no longer open. Help!

yes. its bizarre as I can only import m2v's now vs .mov files before. Keep getting error messages, as well as only opening about 50% of my DVDSP project files, yet all have the same basic elements & settings. Exporting my files as m2vs which should work, but wondering why this is and if I'm the only one experiencing and if there is a fix?

My iPhoto cannot import .mov-files

I just bought a Mac mini and want to import all my pictures, stored at an external hard drive. Unfortunately iPhoto can't import the .mov files. At first it looks fine but next time I open iPhoto it says it has discovered pictures in the iPhoto library that has not been imported (sounds like a contradiction to me) and these pictures are .mov-files. I am asked either to import or not import these files but no matter what action I take ioPhoto creates Recovered pictures-files (which mostly seem to be empty). This happens every time I start iPhoto so the number of recovered files grow rapidly. It doesn't matter if I import the files to the compuiter first and then import them to iPhoto.

Yes, Apple probably intended that you alone of all iPhoto users should have to do this with every import.
In the (admittedly unlikely) event that this is not what Apple intended, it might be that you have some local glitch in your set up.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
