Cannot import music (appears to be mostly .wma)

Hello,
I figured out by reading here that itunes couldn't import .flac files, so that's been sorted, but from what I can tell, I should have no problem importing .wma files.
But when I do:  file > add to library > and then select either the folder or a block of tunes within an album (i.e. foldeR) or even just one song, I get no response from itunes, it just fails to import or add to the lilbrary.
On some albums that have mp3 that I want to import, it also seemed to be doing this (i.e. not importing) but I didn't get an error message.  I found a work around where I'd put them in an unentitled playlist and move them to the Library from there.  But I can't do that with the .wma files.
I had some experience with early versions of itunes when it came out but haven't used it in years.  And now that I've got the Ipod, I'd like to figure it out.
I'm running Itunes 10.5.3 and OS 10.6.8
Thanks for insights and help,

Firstly, I purchased my first iPhone a few years ago, since then there have been a lot of apps released, a lot which I downloaded for free, tried and deleted from both my phone and my iTune 'Apps' Panel. What bothers me is when I do get a new iOS device, iPad and/or iPhone 5, and I don't want to just copy the back-up of my current iOS device to the new one, then to get the apps I want I will have to scroll through countless useless 'trash' applications in my purchase history to 'cloud download' the ones I want.
Just sync the apps you want from your computer. You don't need to redownload them directly on the iPhone Purchased list.
Will Apple be employing such a feature, a 'permanently delete/un-purchase' feature?
    Dunno.

  • Updated to 12.1.0.71 and cannot import music from a cd or from a folder.

Updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 and now cannot import music from a cd or from a folder.  I ran the diagnostics test, and itunes can find the cd, but will not import it.  Itunes will play the cd though.
Any suggestions?  Is there a bug fix coming?
    Thank you.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases.
Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
You may want to install QuickTime also. Links in the user tip.

  • Cannot import music

I just downloaded the new iTunes 7 and ever since then I've been unable to import music from CD's. The "import" button does not show up, only the button that looks like an eye appears. I did the repair on iTunes and it still fails to import. I have also had problems with iTunes freezing sometimes when I put a CD into my computer. Why does this happen?

I know where the import button SHOULD be...it takes place of the "search library for music" button that looks like an eye. , however it never changes to the import button

  • Itunes 7.2 cannot import music folders or files!

After the updates, I've installed itunes 7.2. However, when I start to import music folders or music files [mp3 and other formats], it doesn't work or try to import the source to the library! It also happens to my CDs and my backup CDs!
    What is going on apple?

I am running iTunes version 7.7.1.11 at the moment. You can verify that you are indeed using the most up to date version of the program by going to Help > About iTunes.
When you say that adding files to the library is not working, what do you mean? Is it not recognizing the files, is the application failing to convert the files other than MP3/AAC to a playable format?
Also, iTunes does not move the original media file to where it is storing the library. By default, iTunes leaves the file where it is and makes a reference to it in its library file. You can go into the Preferences dialog box, select the Advanced tab, and select the checkbox next to "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" and click the OK button in order to have iTunes only manipulate files literally stored in its library.
    Does that address your concerns?

  • Cannot import music into my itunes account

i get the following message whenever i try to import music, which i have purchased, into iTunes "you do not have enough access privileges"
I am the administrator, i went to iTunes info, selected my self, gave myself read and write privileges and made myself owner of the account.  Why can't i import?

It's pretty much as simple as selecting all, then a drag and drop into your iTunes library:
iTunes: About the Add to Library, Import, and ... - Support - Apple

  • Cannot import music from cd

    itunes 11.4 (18)  /  Mac os x 10.9.5
For some reason, itunes has stopped importing music from music cd's. It will recognise the cd, download the track names, but when I go to import the songs, the import process just skips through the tracks, witout actually importing the music. The my iTunes library will then show that music is in there, but the tracks are all between 10-80kb and contain no music.
wondering if anybody else is having this issue And / or knows how to rectify it?

    Hello Josh,
So with songs not importing I can think of two troubleshooting options. The first is change the way iTunes imports the songs; either MP3 or AAC format should work. If that still does not work then I would look at the second article for troubleshooting the SuperDrive on your Mac.

  • I cannot import music into my iTunes or import cps, getting error (-50). HELP!! been dealing with this for 2 days

I am going crazy. Got a new 2tb time capsule and have moved all my music to it and thought I was finally successful (though I have somehow lost some songs and recovered some...though some still cut off right at the end??) but now my biggest issue is itunes will not allow me to import any music, cd or downloaded files. I get the message when importing a cd "error occured while importing the file "song name" An unknown error occured (-50). I get the same error when trying to add downloaded music files also. I am really getting frustrated, itunes did not use to be so difficult to maintain. If we figure this out maybe someone can also help figure out why some songs are cutting off. I  have researched this for a couple of days and unfortunatley am not finding much help. Thanks!!

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • I cannot import music into itunes

I use the request "add folder to itunes" but the files do not appear in my library. Neither does the request "add files to itunes". I am using windows and have the newest available version of Itunes. What can I do to successfully import multiple folders into itunes?

You don't import files into the iTunes Media Folder. You import into iTunes. Post your iTunes issues in the iTunes forum:

  • ITunes cannot import music

Whenever I try to import a song file or open one in iTunes, my computer locks up. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?

I have been experiencing a similar problem however it is locking up at the very end of the last song of a CD I am putting in my iTunes to transfer to my iPOD. I just purchased the iPod about three weeks ago and been putting my CD collection on it with no problems until recently.
It is very annoying that everytime it gets to the last 1 second of the last song of the CD, it freezes up and I have to eject the CD, close iTunes and then restart to go to the next CD. Real PAIN!
I checked to insure I had the latest version of iTunes and I do. The odd thing is that it just started the past few days with no problems prior. No changes on my computer have been made.
Any help would be most appreciated.

  • Cannot import music already on my computer into itunes

I have tried dragging and dropping both music folders and individual files (songs) into my itunes music library but when I do so nothing shows up in the view screens. Nothing is being transfered.
I have also tried importing using the file tab and adding folders or files command and this does not work either.
The music files are .rmj, I don't know if this matters or not.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Thank you.

+"The music files are .rmj, I don't know if this matters or not."+
iTunes can handle AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF and Apple Lossless. You need to convert them to one of those formats.

  • Cannot import music:  "Don't Have Write Access for your iTunes Media Folder

Subject states the case. Here is what changed. I run a Mac Mini with an external hard drive with about 200gb of music (HD-1). I have a second external HD that I use to back up with Time Machine (HD-2). HD-1 crashed so I bought a new one. Well I want to use the new HD (HD-3) for the Time Machine backup, so I copied the iTunes folder from HD-2 to HD-3, erased HD-2 and then copied the file back from HD-3 to HD-2.
iTunes has now found all my music and plays great. Then I tried to add a disk and got the message above. I used Disk Utility to repair permissions on the internal hard drive, which took 17 minutes and found a ton of problems. Got one "Warning: SUID file system/library/core has been modified and will not be repaired. Disk Utility won't let me do the same repair to the external HD-2.
I also checked info and the permissions are "read and write" on the disks. I'm in over my head already to do this much and now stumped.
    Any ideas? THANKS!

Problem Solved! Thanks to information I learned in an excellent article by Jesse David Hollington, "Transferring your iTunes Library" from iLounge. Published in Tutorials, Monday, Sept. 21, 2009.
I created a new library and now I can add media.
    1) Go into iTunes Advanced preferences and change the Media Folder path to a new location. In my case I created a new folder on the same external drive as the "bad" library copy named (not creatively) "new 2011". Do this by selecting "change" and choosing this new folder.
    2) Go to File>Library>Organize Library. Select Consolidate files, then OK.
This will move all your media to the new file. I have 180 GB of music, so this took a few hours. In my case, in this new location I am now able to add music.
    3) As iTunes made new copies when it moved the files, the old "bad" music folder still exists. After you confirm that your media is in the new location and working, you can delete this old copy.
    Hope this helps others.
