Cannot import/open ppt files

Question

I can't seem to open any powerpoint files. Just bought the license for keynote yesterday and want to bring in a ppt presentation. Tried both methods in the pdf instructions as well as other methods. No luck what so ever. Must be something real simple I'm not doing.

1. Open Keynote
2. As Keynote opens, your first screen will be "choose a theme" (unless you already set it to not show that dialog again. In that case, do #3, below, instead.). At the bottom, click on "Open an existing file ...", then navigate to whatever KN or PP you want, choose it, and it'll open.
3. If KN's already open, FILE (in the menu bar) > OPEN, then navigate, as above.
alternative:
Highlight the PP presentation you want to open. "Get Info" (Apple-I). In that window, there's a window for "Open with", which will alredy be set to PP. Change that to KN, then open the file.
If all these fail, try re-installing KN, and try again. If you fail again, get back here with an exact description of what you're doing and what happens.
