I've just upgraded to Iphoto v9.4.1 and cannot import photos from my hard drive. no matter what method I use, either click and drag or through the File menu. All I get is a message 'Preparing to import' - file size is less than 300 kb

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Launch Lightroom and from the menu go to:
Lightroom >> Preferences >> general (tab)
Ensure there is a checkmark in the box “show import dialog when a memory card is detected”
Then quit Lightroom and insert the card again. Does LR launch ready for import?
If not, check that your card is mounted. You should see an icon on the desktop.
Launch Lightroom and click the import button (bottom left)
Expand the tree in the left-hand column of the import dialog e.g. from Mac HD >> Users….down to desktop.
    Highlight your card.
Choose “Copy” at the top and either a named folder on the right or automatic dated folders.
    Then start the import.

There is no "into". LR and PS just reference your photos on the hard drive.
When you import your photos "into" the LR catalog, LR can copy the images off your memory cards to the hard drive if you have not already copied them, but the photos are referenced by the LR catalog by the path and filename for the files.
If you are having problems getting the images off the cards, what steps are you using and what error messages are you getting?

I have detele the iPhoto cache from user/library/caches/com.apple.iPhoto but it made no difference.
    Any advice is welcome.

Yes, I did solved the problem. It was not with iPhoto but with the iTunes. Once I delete my phone profile all worked. I did not write the steps down but if you do it please post it here.

  • I cannot import photos from my Cannon PowerShot A80

I cannot import photos frpm my Cannon PowerShot A80. I have imported many photos from this camera in the past. I get an unrecognized fromat error message.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Sounds like the camera memory card (CompactFlash) contains one or more corrupted image files.
If the images are not important, you may be able to correct the problem by reformatting the memory card with the camera setup menu. Of course that will destroy any images currently on the card.
If you choose to do that, quickly do a few test images and try importing them to verify that the card was successfully reformatted and that the test images can correctly be imported.
There are utility programs designed to recover images from flash memory.
One of my flash cards came with a free one (for Windows) that I use.
Of course there are also paid programs and data recovery services.
A quick search revealed this link. I downloaded, installed it, and recovered a deleted file, but I have not used the free version extensively, so I cannot vouch for it, or the paid upgrade.

  • Cannot import photos or video into fcp x

I have the newest version of FCP X and cannot import photos from iphoto or video...anyone, anyone?

By clicking on the Photo Browser I assume that you mean the highlighted button in the screeen shot below:
As you can see, on my system a view of the iPhoto collection does appear. If/when you find the photo(s) you want, drag them into the the event.
So why doesn't this happen for you? Don't know. Where is your iPhoto library? Some location that Final Cut isn't expecting? Maybe searching for other posts re iPhoto in this community?

  • Cannot import photo's to MacMini iPhoto'11 (10.6.8) while they do import on MacBook (iPhoto'08 - 10.5.8)

    Gents,
I try to import photo's to my MacMini on 10.6.8. I just upgraded iPhoto to '11. It refuses as I keep receiving the message: "The folowing file cannot be imported. The file is in an unrecognizable format. (Followed by the names of over a hundred files).
I burned through Toast a picture DVD and tried though this. Same story.
Next I tried to import the DVD to my old MacBook that still runs iPhoto '08 on OSX 10.5.8. This uploads the photo's without a problem.
I tried next to find upgrade files for iPhoto '11 in Apple.com. SOme I can install, others says (when unpacking) that I should use the upgrade apps for iPhoto in the Store. No apps found of this kind.
Anybody knows what 's going on? Do you have a solution?
    Many thanks

I had them on a memory stick and an external HD. They were once delivered to me on CD's
I have the pics imported now by loading them up into the MacBook with iPhoto'08. Next I burned this part of the library to a DVD. I imported the photo's into my MacMini with iPhoto'11 without  a problem.
Still it doesn't explain why I couldn't do that directly on the MacMini.
A few days ago I upgraded the MacBook from Leopard to SnowLeopard 10.6.8 but iPhoto is still version '08 and it uploaded the photo's without a problem. So it cannot be the OSX version causing it as both are now 10.6.8

  • Cannot import photos from camera, "problem writing to the volume"

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 09 from iPhoto 5. While everything seemed ok in terms of Faces and Places and Events etc, today I was trying to import some photos from my camera and suddenly iPhoto 09 gave an error *"iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library"* somewhere mid-way through the import. I don't understand why my own internal HD would have a problem writing to.
Luckily, I had made a bootable backup before upgrading to iLife 09, so I just booted from that external FireWire disk, opened iPhoto 5 and as usual, it imported all the photos without any issues. But I do not want to go back and forth just for importing the photos. So, Apple, please update the iPhoto 09 with necessary bug fixes.
Has anyone else experienced this issue ? any solutions ?
    Thanks.

    Your stated problem
I was trying to import some photos from my camera and suddenly iPhoto 09 gave an error "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library" somewhere mid-way through the import.
As I stated I have NOT seen this problem before and it is clearly a specific problem with your system not an iPhoto bug
Then you are not watching enough. There are several reports here itself :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8971388
Issue was user had their iPhoto library on a FAT 32 formated disk - nothing at all like your personal problem
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1907134&tstart=0
User was short of disk space - one of the questions I ask you since it can cause similar problems and can corrupt your library
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1885964&tstart=0
Even with all of the thread jacks nothing in this long thread is like yours - these are mostly corrupted libraries and are solved by rebuilding
    http://forums.appleinsider.com/showthread.php?p=1372496
Not on a forum that I follow - but appears to again be a FAT32 formated disk - nothing like your issue
SInce you are mostly interested in arguing and insulting people and not in solving your problem - if you even have one e - I choose not to deal with peole with your attitude

  • (Lightroom 5.2 in MacBook Pro) Cannot Import Photos.

    Hi,
I have just purchased, downloaded and installed adobe lightroom 5.2 online. I was trying to discover it since it's my first time using lightroom. So I tried clicking on the "Import" button and it showed me different folders from my library. However, I cannot find the folders that I 've created in iPhoto. I saw various online tutorials about importing photos but it's only for those photos that are coming directly from either an inserted memory card or direclty from a camera.
    Please help.
    Cheers!

    Hi Jaiho787,
Take a look at this post here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1070026
It should help you figure this out.

  • Since downloading Iphoto 11, we now cannot import photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ-15 camera. Any ideas out there as to why this is occuring. I can still import them onto my laptop which is running Iphoto9

Since downloading Iphoto 11 onto our desktop computer we now cannot import the photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15 into Iphoto. However I can import them from the camera onto my Macbook which is still running Iphoto 9.
When I connect the camera and IPhoto loads, the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning and nothing happens, I have to Force Quit Iphoto to get out of the program. Totally frustrated, it would seem that it is an Iphoto 11 software problem.  Any suggestions out there?
    Regards
    Phil

    Terence,
not sure what happens here right now, I didn't mean to be offensive. So please let's stay calm. There are some issues with Panasonics described in these threads, and they do sound similar to the issue I'm facing (somewhat hard to say, as a) these people do not use exactly the same camera as I do and b) the descriptions of their problems are not very detailed). I would retract the term "a LOT of issues". Sorry.
Back in September I described my issue here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?start=0&tstart=0
but then the discussion there stopped. Since we were still able to import images manually into iPhoto (and took care of leaving out already imported pictures ourselves), we could live with this as a workaround.
Since everything worked well recently on my machine with the latest iPhoto version, I decided to upgrade iPhoto on my wife's Mac (where the import problems occured) from '09 to latest '11 (9.2.1). However, after that iPhoto still could not import from the Panasonic's SD card (rotating ball when inserting the card reader, and rotating ball after starting up iPhoto afterwards even w/o card reader plugged in, until the next reboot). So I re-built iPhoto's database (32000 images - 12 hours). Didn't help either. It worked however with a Casio Z-1000's SD card. Thus I re-formatted the Panasonic card yesterday and it seems to work since then.
My point is that I consider it weird that a SD card works with one Mac and doesn't work with another, although both use the same version of OS X and iPhoto. And, I'm somewhat doubtfull that re-formatting the card will  solve this issue permanently. I believe that I tried to re-format the card already back in September, when I dealt with the issue for the first time, but I have no prove of that.
I will keep an eye on it and will report here if the problem comes up again.
    Thank you for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Thomas.

  • HT201302 I cannot import photos from my iPhone to pc since downloading iOS7.  Any suggestions?

I updated to iOS7 and I cannot import any of my photos from my phone to my pc.  Any suggestions on how to do this?

try to follow the step below the article you are following:
To copy the photos to your computer using Windows Explorer:
Connect the iOS device to the computer.
    Choose Start > Computer.
Double-click the logo for the device to browse its camera folders.
    Navigate to [iOS device]\Internal Storage\DCIM\100APPLE.
Manually copy the content in this folder to your computer, wherever you would like to store it.
Disconnect your device. Open the Camera Roll and manually delete all the pictures from the iPhone Camera Roll that you just imported.

  • Cannot import photos from iPhone 3GS

For some mysterious reason I can no longer import photos or videos from my iPhone 3GS. I have iPhoto'09 (v. 8.0.4) on Mac OS X 10.5.7. Upon launching iPhoto my phone is recognized and the correct number of photos and videos is displayed, albeit without previews. Any attempt to import either photos or videos results in the error "The following file could not be imported. The file is in unrecognized format." (for photos) or "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image." (for video files)
Of course all photo and video files display just fine on my iPhone. The "Image capture" app is also unable to import anything - it goes through the motions of importing, but in the end nothing gets imported (but it does not display any error message.)
I restarted both the computer and the phone a few times, no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    I've managed to fix this.
After 3 attempts, Image Capture (instead of iPhoto) was finally able to pull my photos/video off my iPhone. There were a few shots missing, I'm guessing those were the "corrupt" ones. No idea how or why I could end up with corrupt images, the only shots on my phone were ones that I'd taken with my phone.
After that, I opened up Photos on my iPhone, selected every photo and every video and deleted them all.
Then I took a couple shots with the phone, re-opened iPhoto, and everything seemed to work dandy.
    Still. Lame.

  • Cannot import photos from iPad2

I cannot import any photos from my ipad2 into iphoto; my mac has os 10.5.8. The photos do show up when the ipad is synced to the mac but will not import.

That photo is already within your iPhoto Library ->
    /Bibliothek iPhoto/Import/Masters/Roll 1/IMG_5742.JPG
iPhoto won't import images already in the Library.
