Cannot import Tiff files

a few days after importing my folders the import dialogue window has changed and I cannot import TIFF files anymore, only jpg and raw!! what can I do???
Thanks Axel

I am guessing then, done as an Export to TIFF with the Export Dialogue, not Export to PSCS, then. Are they named the same as the Raw file except fot the Extension? If so, change the name by adding something like -edit.TIF and they will be imported. LR maybe seeing them as sidecars to the RAW and like JPEGs generated as a pair with a RAW by a camera, LR ignores it.
There are a number of very long threads on this issue. Most are titled impart 'RAW - JPEG'.

  • In iPhoto 11 imported tiff files remain tiff after editing.  I need to convert to large file jpegs. How? using the "export" function they become too small

I thought imported tiff files would be converted by iPhoto to JPEGS in previous versions of iPhoto.  this might have been a disadvantage but my current project requires JPEGs as the final product.
    thanks for any guidance
    Jim

Drag the photo from the iPhoto window to the desktop or export as kind = JPEG
As to too small - what is too small?  The pixel dimensions of the exported JPEG will be identical to the original TIFF - the file size is smaller because JPEGs are compressed - which of course reduces file size - which of course is the reason that JPEG exists

  • Cannot import any files on Lightroom 4.2

I have been having problems with importing all files to Lightroom since my Macbook was 'healthchecked'!! I get the message 'cannot read files'.
This started with Lightroom 3 - where I have tried to delete the preference file and then recreate - no luck, after alot of other things tried, I then
uninstalled Lightroom 3 and installed a fresh version of Lightroom 4.2 - and the problem still exists.
I suspect it is a configuration problem but am not technical, so I need some non-techie suggestions please, I am getting very very frustrated!!
    Can anyone help, please.

    Victoria,
Thank you for you reply, it must have been something to do with the
permissions of the folders as I just decided to create a new folder as
the destination folder and that worked!!
So thank you so much, I just now need to organise all the photographs.

Which folder are you setting as the Destination, for the files to be
imported into?  Does it work if you set it to, say, Desktop?
That "cannot be read" error message more often means "cannot be
written" (yes, I know, that's stupid!!!), so it's probably a folder
    permissions issue.

  • I cannot import .mov files to Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder.

I cannot import .mov files to Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder.
How do I around this problem?

We need to know a lot more if we're going to help you.
What happens when you try? Do you get an error message? If so, exactly what does it say?
What version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the recent updates? What operating system?
Does this happen for all .mov files or just some? Has this ever worked before? What version of QuickTime do you have installed?
Here's a page written for After Effects, but the information is relevant to Premiere Pro and AME, too:

  • Cannot import Illustrator files - crash to desktop

    Hello:
I've been experimenting with the Catalyst beta at work, but it seems I cannot import Illustrator files (yet phototshop files are fine). What happens is the following:
    1) Click "From Adobe Illustrator AI File..." link on the start screen.
    2) Choose an AI file in the file selector (I used the one found at http://www.insideria.com/2009/06/flash-catalyst-beta-1-top-bran.html)
    3) Catalyst begins the process and shows a progress bar, but then immediately crashes to desktop without warning.
I've tried several other AI files, but the results are the same. Is anyone else having this problem?
System specs (if it matters) are:
    Windows XP SP2
    Professional x64 Edition
    Intel core 2 Duo
    2.33GHz, 3.93 GB of RAM

Ok, this is going to sound strange, but here's what happened:
    1) I went to the Catalyst directory to retrieve the log file you mentioned. It seems I had generated about nineteen or so of these logs. I've gone ahead and attached them to this post.
    2) I deleted all of these logs out of my Catalyst directory.
    3) I went back and performed the above steps, and it worked! I even tried another AI file, and it imported successfully.
The only thing that has changed since yesterday is the fact that I deleted these logs. I'm baffled...

  • Cannot import .mov files generated by Toast

    Hi All,
I have a strange issue : I had old HI8 tapes that I got transferred on DVDs (VOB files). I then converted these files in HD DV with Toast 10, which generated AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) files encapsulated in mov that I can perfectly read with Quicktime X (I run SL 10.6.2). The issue is I just cannot import these files in IMovie 09 (the corresponding files are "greyed" in the finder...)
Does anyone has a clue on why this happens?
    Thanks!

I have kind similar issue ,I try to convert .mts from canon in toast 9 to .mov but for iMovie 09 it's not good...there is slight difference in some parameters of AIC what iMovie use on it's own when you do import directly from camcorder /this codes is that Litte Endian/ and output of tast9 is /AIC ,ACC/...so all my files on hard drive are not importable for now ,looks like the compatibility of .mov container is terrible...it's frustrating I tried also voltaic converter and few more but they output is useless...it's rough & cranky...so I'm looking for solution as well....

  • Aperture 1.1 will not import tiff file if name is the same as the raw file

Before Aperture I would open up a raw file in Photoshop, edit it and save it as a tiff or a psd file keeping the same name. When I import a folder of images saved like this the only files I see imported are the raw files and any tiff or psd file I renamed to something else. I tried looking under Images> New version from jpeg and it's grayed out with no option to see a tiff file.
I took a quick look and searched through the forum and found nothing. I can't be the only one doing this!

That's a ridiculous bug and the fact that you cannot see the entire filename (.nef, .tif, .psd) on the light table (except in tooltips) is pretty incredible too. It's like they were assuming there was no other previous workflow.
A workaround seems to be putting all the like named files in another folder before importing into Aperture. Time consuming if you have a few hundred projects and it could result in losing a few files here and there plus you need to manually add them to the proper stacks.
The concept of Aperture is still brilliant it just needs a lot more beta testing. It's kind of like Apple making Spotlight the default without giving you the option of using the clean straight forward old Find.

  • Show stopper: can't import tiff files with camera raw adjustments

For RAW NEF files (coming from a Nikon D80), Aperture doesn't pick up adjustments I've made in ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) when I import them, even though the .xmp "sidecar" files are sitting there in the folder next to the them. Do I have to do something to get Aperture to pay attention to the .xmp files?
Similarly, Aperture doesn't read ACR adjustments I've made to TIFF files. I've read on the web that adjustments made to TIFF files cannot be stored in "sidecar" xmp files. That's clearly true since I don't see the .xmp files sitting next to my tiff files in my image directory -- but my ACR adjustments are stored when I reload the TIFF files in ACR.
In any case, Aperture doesn't seem to recognize either RAW files with sidecar .xmp info, or TIFF files that have ACR adjustments baked in.
This is a show stopper for me and I'd love to use Aperture for its 'Faces' functionality. Does anyone know a fix for this issue?
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply, Kirby
the kind of conversion you are talking about is likely a pipe dream.
I gave it a quick look myself just now. the .lrcat file that lightroom has isn't binary & looks just like a huge list of adjustment data for entries in the database. For example, the curves on one of my images looks like this:
    ToneCurve = { 0,
    0,
    37,
    38,
    93,
    148,
    167,
    223,
    255,
    255 },
So it wouldn't be difficult to write a .lrcat > .xmp exporter (basically going back from one Lightroom database to many .xmp files) or a batch .xmp > .lrcat exporter (going from many .xmp files to one Lightroom database).
Looking at the contents of Aperture's .aplibrary package, there's an xml record of all files entered in the database, and I found what looks like image edits in the 'versions' folder -- but unfortunately the edits are stored in a binary format.
Oh well, I guess this is why Aperture is a bit faster than Lightroom -- but will make it very difficult to write a converter to get edits into Aperture. & unless Apple adds edit info to their .xmp sidecar exporter (Export Masters) & includes a batch mode.. we wont be able to get info out of Aperture. So, for the moment, this apparent lack of an open format keeps Aperture from being a professional tool imho, compare to Lightroom.
..but for me there's no reason to switch from ACR to Lightroom because there's no facial recognition, and the curve editing utility is better in ACR.
    Thanks for the comments, David.
I'll be sticking with ACR/Bridge for now -- I'd rather not split my library -- & hope that Lightroom adds some facial recognition functionality
Besides this, Aperture seems like a really nice product.
    Cheers,
    Raphe

  • I have used lightroom for years on my PC and just installed it on my new iMac.  I cannot import NEF files from iPhoto or from my Lacie hard drive into Lightroom.  I have tried Lightroom Help but still cannot import NEF files.  What am I doing wrong?

I have always used Lightroom with a PC and now have installed Lightroom 3.6 on my new iMac.  I cannot import raw (NEF) files from iPhoto (or from my Lacie drive for that matter into Lightroom. I have tried Lightroom Help to no avail. How do I import NEF files from the iMac into Lightroom?

If they are the same nef files that you were importing into your PC, see if the reason is an error message like the thread above this one. Permissions issue.

  • Sudden problem with importing tiff files with alpha channel (CS5)

OK this is driving me nuts. For years I have been importing image files that have an alpha channel  into FCP as.tiff files. I use Photoshop files only when I want to use the layers as they are too cumbersome otherwise). I have recent upgraded Photoshop, etc. to CS5 and now FCP won't import them anymore. I get a message saying: "File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown"
I am not doing anything different and tiff files created in just the same way in an earlier version of Photoshop import and work just fine. Is this a CS5 bug? Does anyone know of a work around. I want to keep using tiff files as they seem to work best for me with alpha channel work (and I don't see why I need to reinvent the wheel).
    Thanks
    A

I've had a similar issue recently. Same TIFF files downloaded from the same server, different FCP project, new error. I either see"File error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown" or I get the even stranger, "Unrecognized file type."
I can open them in PS and save them again as TIF, same results. I know these are not CMYK files but even if resave the TIF as RGB, I get the same results, they are not recognized by FCP.
But if I open them in PS and save them as PNG with alpha, they improt fine.
I have no idea what's going on.

  • Cannot import video file from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11.

Hi this is my first post on this site.
I am having trouble trying to import video files from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11. The computer does not even recognize this camcorder. When I do a PC connection, iphoto comes up, but all it tells me to import are the pictures that I have taken.
No matter what I do, I cannot find the folder for my camcorder in the device section in the finder.
When I try to import it on imovie, I only get an option for facetime camera and not my vixia.

  • Upgraded to Lightroom 3.6, cannot import NEF files from D700

    Hi!
I just upgraded my Lightroom to 3.6 on my MacBook pro running Lion. Since then, I cannot import my pictures anymore, either from the camera directly, through a compact flash reader (SanDisk) or by adding the picture directly from my hard-drive. The standard Mac utility to download images work fine.
Lightroom tells me that it cannot read the files, with Lithgtroom 3.5 it worked (nothing changed in the meantime Camera profiles, OS X, etc.).
You can find one NEF file I cannot import here (dropbox link) : http://db.tt/6zSiNzYK
    Any idea?

    Thank you Sean,
I'll try that once I'll have managed to get the import working. I created another catalog since last time I thought the import worked but again I got stuck.
Do you know anything else I could try? Ideally, do you know how  I could get a better diagnosis? By the way, I already got in touch with the CS but all I got was a lousy answer (update my ACR... for Lightroom -_- )
I'm using Lightroom since the first version and I start to really be discouraged.
    Thanks for your help,

  • Importing TIFF files (Portrait) into iPhoto '11

Since upgrading from iLife '09 to iLife '11, I can't import portrait photos in TIFF format into iPhoto! JPEG versions work fine but as most of my photos are TIFF I'm left with a lot of photos that I can't see/use. Landscape photos are fine.
I'm using a Nikon D300 camera. I have 2 iMacs and a Mac Book - all running Mac OS X vers. 10.6.8 - and they all have the same problem.

I had a similar problem, which I suspect is going to be off little help if trying to get photos into the mac from a camera.
I had all my pics on a USB drive external to my old windows machine. When I moved to a mac I started to import into iPhoto 11. The only images I could not load were portrait tiff files, all of which have an Orientation: 8 (Rotated 90° CW) setting as oposed to Orientation: 1 (Normal).
Fortunately I have Photoshop which will open them, so open and save as does the trick. I suspect there's a setting in the camera to turn off auto rotation which is what I'll try next before I try to load my next set.
I'm using a D300s so if I can solve this it should work for the D300 also.

  • Cannot import .mov files into FCE

I bought a new Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera to use to finish a video project because my right hand is in a cast and I cannot use my HD video camera. Unfortunately for me, I have a deadline to meet.
I shot video at 720p and tried to import it into FCE 4.0.1 to edit using Log and Transfer and got the warning message, '"863_0156.MOV" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.' I also shot video at 1080p and, of course, cannot import it into FCE either using Log and Transfer.
I am still a relatively new FCE user and would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. I looked in Tom's book (FCE 4 Editing Workshop)on page 73. Will Quicktime Pro 10 convert the files? If so what is the procedure?
I have seen similar questions in this discussion forum on importing .mov files, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me. How can I convert the .mov files to get Log and transfer in FCE to accept them?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
This pocket camera record H.264. So the material as to be converted to a format supoported natively by FCE as Apple Intermediate Codec 1080. Search this forum with +MPEG streamclip+ keyword.
