Cannot import WAV files into itunes with 8.01!

Although I see posts in this category, this question has not been answered. iTunes 8 and 8.01 have lost a critical capability compared to iTunes 7. I have an Olympus digital voice recorder that I like to download to my ipod. I could do this before 8.01! Now I cannot!
Are you working on a solution?

  • How to import large library of .wav files into itunes with tags?

I have an external NAS drive where I imported approximately 400 CDs in .wav format utilizing itunes many years ago. My itunes library was recently corrupted requiring a reinstall of itunes. The .wav files are preserved and are filed by Artist folders containing Album subfolders which contain the tracks listed by number and name. The problem is when I reimport the files into itunes the artist and album name is lost leaving only the track name, which makes it impossible to organize a library of music.
I would like to batch process and import the .wav files on my NAS drive into itunes in either a high-quality mp3 or AAC format with the songs tagged correctly to allow for an organized and searchable library. I would rather not have to reburn all of the CDs since that required substantial time and effort.
I welcome any solution to this problem.

itunes can't do what you want. It will do exactly what you said, lose everything, because wav files don't have ID3 tags. And, I suspect it dumps it all into an "Unknown Album" subfolder under "Unknown Artist".
You can try the tagFromFileName script on this page, brought to you by an apple discussion forum regular turingtest2. I have not used it myself, but have seen posts from several people happy with the results!

  • Importing wav. files into itunes on MAC OSX

I have a question, hope someone has the answer.
I am a new mac owner, new ipod owner too.
I currently have 200-300 gigabytes of SHN and FLAC files on my PC (mostly grateful dead soundboard recordings).
I am planning on converting these files to WAV. format with "artist", "album" (show date), and "song" ID tags.
I then plan on copying these WAV. files to my imac or separate external hard drive formatted for MAC OSX.
    OK THE QUESTION (finally, no?),
When WAV. files are imported into itunes are they automatically converted to the MP4 AAC format?
I have looked in the itune PREFERENCES menu I go to ADVANCED and see that there is a control for switching file formats for importing CD'S but there is no mention of importing WAV. files.
On another note it is too bad that Apple has not come up with a file conversion utility for itunes, where FLAC, SHN, and WAV. files could be converted to MP4AAC, Apple Losless, etc...
I appreciate any answers to my question, and also comments regarding the general subject of audio file conversion on the MAC OSX.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Firstly, I must point out that WAV doesn't support tagging, so there is no point in converting your compressed FLAC and SHN files to WAV before making the move over to a Mac.
Rather, it would make more sense to use the free and excellent Max to convert all these files automatically to the format of your choice, such as Apple Lossless. You can even run multiple conversions simultaneously, so you could, say, convert your whole lot of files to Apple Lossless while at the same time convert the same lot to AAC for use on your iPod. The program is highly configurable, allowing you to specify destination directories and whether or not the output files are added directly to your iTunes library. Also, the tagging will be preserved when converting FLAC and SHN files to supported formats.

  • Can't import WAV files into iTunes

I have ripped most of my music to WAV files but iTunes refuses to import them. Neither the add folder function, the add file function, nor the drag and drop will add them. It does absolutely nothing.
Anybody know how to get around this problem?

It's not altering the file. It's simply playing back different.
    iTunes prefs -> Playback.
Untick Sound Check, Sound Enhancer and Cross Fade playback.
Go to menu View -> Show Equalizer and set it to Off.

  • I cannot import any files into iTunes

When I try to add a file to iTunes by dragging it over the iTunes window, iTunes simply does nothing, no error message, no failure, the file simply isn´t copied into iTunes. Same applies when I try to select a file via the mediathek importer (shortcut cmd+O).
I has worked before but then I upgraded to version 7.7.1 and now it simply doesn´t anything. Does anyone have the same problem?

    I'm having the same problem.
For over a week now, I have not been able to import songs into my library by dragging them on to iTunes. Whenever I do, I get the following message:
*"Attempting to copy to the disk “XXXX” failed. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.*
*iTunes could not save to your Music Folder because you do not have write access. Check the permissions on your Music Folder and folders in your Music Folder, then try copying this file again."*
I can still buy and play songs from iTunes, or import from a CD – but if it’s a music file from somewhere else (like a digital album I bought straight from a band’s website, and NOT through iTunes), then it won’t allow me to import it to iTunes. I was able to do it a few weeks ago, but now I get the above error message. Since then I have upgraded to iTunes 8 — however the error message started happening right before that, so it can’t be that. The one major thing that has happened to my computer since then, and which I think could possibly be the culprit here, is detailed in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1686803&tstart=0
Basically I was having trouble accessing my account, and I had to delete it and rebuild it. I’m pretty sure the problem with importing music files happened after that.
I looked online for ways to fix this problem, but none of the suggested solutions have worked:
I made sure my Music Library folder, and ALL the folders within, had “read & write” access for my account, but that didn’t work.
I used Disk Utility to perform Repair Permissions, but that didn’t work either.
So I’m at a loss for what else I should do. Any suggestions?
(FYI — my music is all located on my external hard drive).

  • I cannot import 5.1 WAV files into iTunes

    Hello
I'm running iTunes 11.1.5 (5) 64 bit on OSX 10.9.2. I'm trying to import some wav files into iTunes, they are about 6-11 minutes long each, they have 5.1 (6 total) channels, 16 bit depth and are sampled at 48,000 kHz. I can run them in QuickTime Player 10.3 (727.3) without any problems, but iTunes will not run them. This stil happens if I try to import the same files when they are in Apple Lossless format as well. I have several other surround sound files sourced from other stuff and they wil not import either, but they still run in Quicktime Player just fine. I don't have any pluging installed for iTunes or QuickTime Player. Does iTunes just not support surround sound audio, or is there something wrong with the files that I'm trying to import?

    Hi Michael,
I bounced a PCM 5.1 WAV Audio File from Logic Pro X, This File alredy plays 5.1 surround from desktop just with the space bar preview and also with QuickTime ok? But Itunes 11 doesn´t import PCM 5.1 (multi) Wav audio files as you know, so I Knew that in the Itunes 11 for the movies tracks the 5.1 surround audio is automatic.See this link below
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4072 -
    What I did?
I just imported my audio file to Apple COMPRRESSOR, and choose the H.264 output format and I changed from .MOV to .MP4 (This one Itunes import with multi audio 5.1)
and also select 48 Khz and 720 Kbps. After encoding my audio file from ( 226 Mb) PCM 5.1 Wav about 4.20'  went to a AAC 6 channes 48 Khz / 720 Kbps  .MP4 file with 24 Mb size. Itunes import withou problem and played 5.1 surround as I wish.
I hope you understood my explanation,
    Regards
    Paulo

    JohnAndKel,
That's odd because the CD reading test that the diagnostics runs didn't report an error. What happens if you select a song from the CD in iTunes and play directly from CD?
(Just a note, the filter trick doesn't do anything for CD import, just CD burn. iTunes doesn't use the Gear drivers for reading the CD.)

  • How to import Flac files into itunes

    Hi there,
the title say it all. How can I import Flac files into Itunes?
I have a lot of them. I click onto add to library select the flac file, click on open and nothing happen.
    Many thanks for your help.
    regards

Hello CESNET the best bet is to try http://blowintopieces.com/fluke/ I myself don't use Flac files but to any audiophile it's important to hear sound at it's best. Also WAV or AIFF & ALAC you will need to use http://tmkk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/xld/index_e.html to convert into ALAC.
P.S. their is also a simple FLAC player but can't remember it one more thing converting FLAC to WAV will not give you full TAGs. Best bet is to try just one file you've copied ether straight into iTunes or convert & see what's best for you.

  • I can't import mp3 files into iTunes

Just recently, I find that I can't drag/drop (or import) .mp3 files into iTunes (12.1.0.50).
I did confirm that the files aren't locked.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

No mp3 files from any source, including iTunes itself, or just some particular batch of mp3s files from some unspecified source?  It isn't unusual for some encoders to produce mp3s that are not compliant with iTunes.  You can try using the application MP3 Scan+Repair (http://triq.net/mac/mp3-validator-mac-os-x) to fix them but sometimes you have to re-encode them.  Try playing with Quicktime Player instead and report if it will play the files.
Oh, it also isn't unusual that files do not have labels built in.  They are adding to iTunes but not ending up where you expect them to be.

  • Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it renames all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

Since updating iTunes and Mavericks, every time I import m4v files into iTunes it re-names all the files to "Avidemux". what's gone wrong?

(By the way, would I need to use also the red and white phono cables also to get sound?)
Yes, S-video cables do not carry sound.
When you import 16:9 into DV Widescreen, make sure that you have UNchecked 'automatic letterboxing'.
In Preferences, is the project set to the correct standard?
    29.95 fps = NTSC
    25 fps = PAL.
BTW, this is actually the iMovie 5 forum, but no matter!

  • Can't import .m4r file into iTunes 10.0.6.40

Hi. I have a new iPhone 4S with AT&T (first iPhone ever!) and I'd like to create a custom ringtone. I have an .m4r file that is 29 sec long. I'd like to use it as my ringtone. Should be easy enough, right? I've tried dragging and dropping my file into iTunes, and also tried importing it through the menu, but it won't import. I can double click on it and play it in iTunes, but it doesn't import it into the library. Also, I have no RingTones folder. Do I need to create one somehow, and how would that work?
    Thanks!

Okay, I wrote up a tutorial on what I did to make my own custom ringtones so that other newbies don't get confused.

  • Importing WMA files into itunes 4

Is there a way to import my windows WMA files into itunes 4 on my mac? I tried upgrading to the new itunes but the system upgrade of 10.4.9 slowed it down to where it would barely run so I have to keep it with the older version of 10.4.

Ok, I upgraded to itunes 8 and still can't import the WMA files. It says it is importing for a while then just quits. I have over 10gb of music files in WMA format and they are all sorted into folders. Is there a free program to bulk convert all of them to M4A formats so itunes will work with them?

  • Cannot import wav files

I'm relatively new to working with captivate and am trying to
import a .wav file into a slide. According to a book on Captivate
from Icon logic - it says that captivate supports mp3 files and wav
files. It also says that that when imported, WAV files are
converted to mp3 format. When I try to import a wav file I get a
message that says "unable to decode and import the selected sav/mp3
file". Does anyone know how to address this? thanks!

    Hi Sue
The answer to that is a definite "it depends". Here's the
deal. Captivate does import WAV format. But it only understands WAV
format that has been what is called "PCM Encoded". There are
different encoding types for audio files.
You may find that you never encounter this again. Or, you may
find that nearly every file you choose to import has to be
converted. It all depends on the original encoding of the file.
I realize this answer is a bit on the vague side. Apologies
for that. Unfortunately there is no definite one size fits all
    answer here.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How do you import .WAV files into Presonus studio one pro on a Mac Mini

I am new to this type of forum and I don't know how to ask a good question but here goes.  I have a Mac Mini and I am getting very frustrated with my presonus DAW software.  I was able to import .WAV files int o my PC Real easy but I don't seem to be able to find out how to do it with my Mac Mini.  I clicked on import files and the files would magically transfer themselves into my DAW on my PC, but with the mac it doesn't want to do it the same way.  I E-mailed the software company but they told me to do lit just like I have been importing with my PC but it doesn't work.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I might also mention that this is my first Mac and I am not too familiar with the operating system yet, and besides all that I am fairly new to computer recording.  Please help I am going nuts.
    Thanks Abel

Convert the DVD's VOB files into a format that works natively in FCE.  For DVD footage (which is SD), use MPEG Streamclip to do the converting.  Here's a tutorial on using MPEG Streamclip: http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739
MPEG Streamclip is freeware, but you may need to purchase the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple if you don't have it already.
