Cannot initialize photoshop CC

Suddenly Photoshop CC does not open anymore. Every time I try to open PS it says: could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error.
This is becoming very frustrating. Does anybody knows what is going on.

I just chatted with Adobe support and got this resolved on my Macintosh with Mavericks. I probably had a corrupt preference file and so we trashed my preference folder and all is now swell. This is what he walked me through:
To get to the Adobe Photoshop Preferences folder on your Mac in Mavericks, you need to get to your Library folder (it is a hidden folder by default). Here's a brief description of how to get there: Mavericks Makes It Way Easier To Access Your Library Folder [OS X Tips] | Cult of Mac
Once in "Library", navigate to the "Preferences" folder. Find the folder "Adobe Photoshop CC Settings". Drag the folder to your desktop.
Now try and relaunch Photoshop while holding down the shift key. It should ask if you want to disable third party plug-ins. Stop holding down the shift key and say yes, disable. Photoshop should launch (it did for me). Once you quit Photoshop, it should now relaunch without any problems.
The Adobe Photoshop CC Settings folder is now rebuilt fresh in your Library, so you can trash the version on the desktop. It's best not to trash it until this step in case it actually isn't the problem.
I hope this is helpful to someone else. Good luck!

  • Cannot initialize Photoshop because preferences file was deleted

Hi. I recently had problems with startup disk being full and had to empty Cache.
Now, when I go to open up Photoshop CS5 for the first time after rebooting, I get this error message:
Cannot initialize Photoshop because preferences file not found, it was deleted.
Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem?
    Thank you,

  • Cannot initialize photoshop disk not available.

I have 3 HD's. My Mac OS runs on HD 1 as well as my applications.  I use HD 1 & 2 as storage for photos and video. I switched my scratch disc order to HD 2 and HD 3 but clicked off HD 1 as a scratch disk in photoshop extended CS4.  Now I cannot open photoshop not even to reset my scratch discs.  It will not open because it says it cannot initialize photoshop because disk is unavailable.  The weird part is that I cannot open photoshop in CS3 because of the same reason even though I did not touch that.  I uninstalled and reinstalled both from disk and time machine but does not help.  How do I change back to what I had before I screwed this up.  I can't believe the program allows itself to be obstructed so easily without any warning.
    Thanks
    Scott

Go back in Time Machine to before you did this and restore the Photoshop folders and preferences in the HD\Library\Preferences, HD\Library\Application Support\Adobe, and Home\Library\Preferences folders.
Or you can just dump the preferences and then try to restart PS.
I suggest the Time Machine method in case you have custom workspace settings or paths you don't want to lose and have to reset

  • Cannot initialize Photoshop due to program error

My Mac OS is 10.9.4, I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014, at first it was working fine, now I get the "cannot initialize Photoshop due to program error". I've uninstalled, reinstalled, ran disk utilities from the recovery hd, ran onyx, ran fontnuke, reinstalled photoshop from a time machine backup, reinstalled Mavericks OS and I still get the same error message. Any thought? Any ideas?

Thank you for pointing that out.
It should be added that this action is what is generally known as Resetting Photoshop Preferences and is the usual method for dealing with unusal behaviour when all obvious remedies have failed.
It is more fully documented in the FAQ: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
It is useful to keep a "good" copy of the content of the Settings folder in a separate location on the computer, This can be copied back after a reset to save having to get your individual preferences how you like them.

  • Photoshop CC2014 does not launch. Error message ' cannot initialize photoshop because of program error

Hi, I get this error message (cannot initialize) after the splash screen.
I have chatted with Adobe staff and spoke to one. I have un-installed and re-installed, created new administrator and installed, fixed permissions, deleted preferences, you name it.
In previous chat on a forum I read about the PsErrorLog.txt file.
    Mine says:
    2014:08:23 10:50:20 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_15_Mac_Daily_Retail/20140730.r.148/photoshop/main/photoshop/sources/ UColorState.cpp : 737 : REQUIRE failed
    2014:08:23 10:54:42 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_15_Mac_Daily_Retail/20140730.r.148/photoshop/main/photoshop/sources/ UColorState.cpp : 737 : REQUIRE failed
I cannot locate the ColorSettings.csf in the photoshop preferences folder  and my System Preferences / displays / color says iMac.
Any tips how to solve this issue?

Either your default color settings files are corrupted, or they are missing (they're in the system application support folder).
Uninstalling and reinstalling should put the default files back in place.

  • Cannot initialize Photoshop CS2 "not enough memory" error

I had Photoshop CS2 installed and running fine on a MacBook Pro (10.5.4, 2GB RAM), until it suddenly crashed and now will not open. Gives the error message: "Could not initialize because there's not enough memory." I have 1.5 GB of memory free, and 70 GB of disk space free. I've reinstalled, tried creating a new user to run it, but nothing is working. I've found a couple of mentions of the same problem online, but no solutions. Can anyone help me?

    Hi Jen,
I don't know how MacBook works but it sounds like I just had basically the same problem which John Joslin had the correct answer.  He said, "Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ at:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)"
I have windows vista ultimate so I'm not sure if this will help you but my preferences were at:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings. I just renamed my pref's and photoshop opened right up.
    Good Luck!

  • On Mac OS 10.9.5 : impossible to initialize Photoshop because of an error of the program

I downloaded Adobe PhotoShop CC and Lightroom 5 (paid version). Lightroom 5 seams to work but Adobe PhotoShop gives an error message "impossible d'initialiser Photoshop en raison d'une erreur du programme" (sorry it's in French, in English this could be "impossible to initialize Photoshop because of an error of the program". Not any additionnal error code or comment.
I tried to uninstall, dowload and install again, but I still get the same message after the new install.
Has anybody experimented this problem ? Thanks for your kind help.

Thanks for tour suggestion, but unfortunately  it does not work. I get a dialog box about virtual memory and the disks I want to choose for, but I cannot trash the prefs. I changed the disks to see and I still get the same message.

  • Could not initialize photoshop because there is not enough memory

    Hello there
i am using Windows XP in Bootcamp on a MacBook Pro. This system goes phantastic without any problems since more than half a year now. Now i decided to use this MacBook for my work as well, but unfortunately my CS2 Photoshop can not be installed because of "could not initialize photoshop because there is not enough memory". Which is not true, it cannot be the memory, i never had any problems on my other computer and even after a restart with all 4GB free it is the same. Trying to get closer to the source of the problem i tried out some other verions of Photoshop, with the same results, so for sure it is not a preference or something similar. Does anyone had the same problem with his XP on a MacBook?
    Thanks for your support,
    Sofian

Sounds like a mapping problem in Bootcamp itself. Either it prevents access to prefs and certain configuration files or the bootloader does not correctly map the different memory offsets. If so, only completely re-initializing the system would fix it. I never had any problems with Vista, though, so this may be an unfortunate combination of an old operating system (XP) with teh specifics of the half-PC that such a Mac is.

  • "Could not initialize photoshop" CS4 on Mavericks

Every time I try to open Photoshop on OSX Mavericks, I get an error message that says, "Could not initialize Photoshop because of a program error." I have deleted the preference file several times, updated Java, first from the Apple site, then from Oracle, uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop twice, and still I get the same error message and PS will not open. Error Log says: 2014:01:03 09:42:53 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_11_Mac_Daily_Retail/20100519.r.592/photoshop/main/photoshop/xcode/.. /framework/sources/UTEView.cpp : 4269 : REQUIRE failed How do I get Photoshop CS4 to work with Mavericks? I cannot find any solutions that work. I'd appreciate any help!

    Boilerplate-text:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.

  • How do you get of hold of anyone at Adobe for help?  Cannot download Photoshop CC.

I could not update Photoshop CC from Creative Cloud desktop or online. I need Raw 8.3 to be compatible with Lightroom.  It is impossible to get a hold of anyone at Adobe for help.  Found their chat link once after much searching, someone finally answered then told me they were closing for the day and to call back the next day.  Could never find the chat link again.  Tried uninstalling PhotoshopCC because I saw that somewhere in the forum but still cannot download Photoshop CC.  Got error code U43M1U49 and said to retry or contact customer support.  Yeah right!  Totally frustrated with Adobe.  Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi Triste,
If you're having difficulties getting updates for your tools using the Creative Cloud Desktop app, then you can try downloading them without it by using the direct links for the CC updates on Windows or on Mac OS, for all CC apps.

  • Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked

I have the problem where you get the Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked, where the solution was to fix the properties in the jpg. I did that and tried the Ctrl-Alt-Shft thing too. I pressed them in time and got the message to delete the settings. When I click yes, I still get the "file locked" message. If it is the scratch disk setting problem, I can't get PS open to change it. This problem started when I was opening a locked jpg from a relative. (Now none of my previous pics will open either). Any other ideas other than these that are already listed in the forums? Thanks for any help.
Technical: Windows XP 5.1, HP7680, Photoshop CS2, 2g ram, more than enough work drives. (no Vista)
Sequence of events: 1) recd a jpg from a relative in an email and saved it to hard drive. 2) with Photoshop unopened, I rt clkd on the jpg and chose "open with CS2". 3) PS started loading and then stopped with the "file locked" msg. Clkd on OK and PS closed. 4) tried to open PS from the shortcut (and from explorer) and got same result. 5) researched the problem and then used the Ctrl-Alt-Shft approach, got the window that asks to "delete settings" and chose ok, PS closed again. 6) went to the jpg and displayed properties and saw "This file came from another computer and might be locked....", so I clicked "unblock". 7) retried step 2, then 4 with same results. 7) tried to open an old jpg with step 2 and same result (got file locked msg). 8) no longer can bring up the "delete settings" window with the the Ctrl-Alt-Shft approach as it looks like it deleted the settings the 1st time.
    Any ideas???? Thanks again.

    Bob,
I do not know why a locked JPG would mess up PS. I could see if you always tried to launch PS, by dbl-clicking on the JPG in Windows Explorer, but not from your Desktop shortcut, or from the PS.exe file.
For the locked file, there is a freeware utility, Unlocker. I do not have a URL handy, but Google should find it for you. It has worked on some network assets, that seemed to lock up on me.
Good luck, though this might not address your PS launch issue.
