Cannot install 8.1.7 Linux Oracle

Hi,
I downloaded the 8.1.7 Oracle linux version from ORacle.com.
But when i tried to install it it does not work.
I created the oracle and apache users.
I de-tared the file on the hard disk.
- I can launch X11 apps from the user oracle (so it's not a problem with the DISPLAY) -
I launched the exe runInstaller but nothing appeared and no error message. The lonely message is :
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from ../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait...
And I still wait...
So I asked for questions such as :
- What version of jre should I use ? The installer seems to have one
- And if I need one how must I install it ? Should I set a link jre in the /usr/local. Or set the path to the jre in the PATH variable environnement.
- The documentation given with the version is not clear at all about this subject.

This site indicates that you need to use jdk118_v3-glibc-2.1.3.tar.bz2 from www.blackdown.org. Although I have heard of people using IBM's Java as well. Furthermore, Sun has a java implementation that works as well. Just make sure you obtain the right version. I recomend reading the installation documenation that comes with Oracle 8.1.7. It tells you what java version to use. I believe Oracle recommends Sun's java implemenation for Oracle 8.1.7 on the Linux Platform.

I'm trying to install PPC Arch on a Power Mac G4
Everything is fine until the point where I need to Install the packages.
It asks me to select another server (There's 3 available), because Pacman apparently cannot download? But the other two seems down.
The error the first one gives: "Error downloading pacman! Try another server."
There's:
1) ftp://ftp.archlinuxppc.org
2) ftp://xentac.net
3) ftp://ftp.archlinuxfr.org
When selecting 2, and 3 it says: "Error fetching package list from server".
Also "INIT: ld "c0" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"
What do I do?

SqlDeveloper - Cannot install - Win XP MCE + and Oracle 10.2.0.1

I am running Windows XP Media center edition 2005.
JAVA sdk 1.5 update 6
Oracle 10.2.0.1
I have extracted all the files into /tmp dir from zip file : sqldeveloper-v1.0.0-no-jre.zip.
Every time I launch, /tmp/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper.exe - It displays a blank window but nothing else. If I close the window, I lose control of my machine and system reboots.
Any suggestions....

4. kernel-sourcecode (.rpm) - source-tree for developing custom kernels
are four different packages.
If you are running OEL-4 (2.6.9 kernel) and you have an ULN account, you can download kernel-sourcecode rpm from ULN. There is no kernel-sourcecode for OEL-5 available on ULN site.

I have been trying to install DBD::Oracle perl module on a Centos 5.7 server which is running Oracle client version 11.2.0.3. I have installed all dependencies prior to attempting installing the same and I am running into the following error -

Fyi.. I've tried to install DBD::Oracle version 1.24 and 1.50 but that doesn't seem to make any difference. I couldn't find any related thread either for this error so I desperately need a solution to the same(if any).
If anyone can help here, would really appreciate it or else, I will have no choice but to install previous version of oracle client.

Oracle Install/Path Error in linux.sh

Ok...
I have installed Oracle 8i on a Linux system. I
have also downloaded the latest patch. Before I
patch it I was told to run the linux.sh in
$ORACLE_HOME/install/utl/.
I am trying to do that howerver...almost every
gmake call that is running errors out with the ld
call. Specifically on some of hte calls that use
"lserver8" and "lclntsh". I don't know enough C to try and debug the install scripts, and was
hoping that someone may have run into this before.
Any help would be appreciated.

No classes12.zip included with Linux Oracle 8.1.7 client install??

I noticed on the linux client install - it includes a
lclasses11.zip, but this is not the JDBC classes that come with
Windows clients.
1.) What is the lclasses11 or 12.zip files for?
2.) Do I need to copy Windows client classes12.zip, etc to a
linux client? What aren't these included?

Cannot install JMF under Linux Mandrake 10

I simply cannot install JMF under the Mandrake 10 Official Linux distribution. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin file and tried to execute it as root. It unzipped some files then showed me an error message about AWT and GTK+. I found a hack consisting of modifying the .bin file to have the PATH variable point to SUN JDK, the error does not show up, but the installation still does not work. In fact, the installation works, but the Diagnostics applet keeps telling me than class files are not present. My Mozilla 1.6 Java plugin is working and displaying the applet. My JMF lib directory does not contain sound.jar, such jmf.jar. I set the CLASSPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH according to the readme.html file. I would like to know if it is a compatibility problem with Mandrake 10, the 2.6 kernel or if JMF just DO NO work under Linux. In the latter case, JMF is a violation to the Java portability philosophy and I would never use it on my own initiative, just if I were asked to.

Even if I do not have a working video capture card (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 but it is not working under 2.6 kernel), JMF should work because some people do not have a video capture card. I also tried with the cross-platform ZIP file, but this one does not contain sound.jar either and the Diagnostics applet keeps complaining about missing class files. I tried to search on the Web for solutions to this problem or for a way to change the CLASSPATH used by the Mozilla Java plug-in (if it uses a different CLASSPATH than the one from the environment variable), but nothing, nothing. Is there a distribution from which JMF would work better than Mandrake 10? Or can JMF work only under Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris? I have it working in Debian, and JDS.(JMF is setup automatically in JDS).(2.6.6 kernel)
I looked at the installation structure of JDS, and was able to duplicate what they did for Debian.
Maybe it will work for Mandrake two??
ok, all you have to do is copy or create soft links from your Mozilla directory, just like you did with the java plugin, and link to all the *.so files in JMF-2.1.1e/lib directory.

I also read that not haveing the native files only matters if you are doing Capture. not play.

SOLUTION MANAGER 7.1 install on linux/oracle java error on ABAP IMPORT

Hello sdn experts, Im trying to install the Solution Manager 7.1 on linux/oracle, but It always stops at the abap import,
The error is in the Program "Migration Monitor", that exit with error.
Reviewing the logs, it seems that is trying to execute a java command line with a unrecognized option:
"Execution of the command "/opt/IBMJava2-amd64-142/bin/java -classpath migmon.jar -showversion -Xmx1024m com.sap.inst.migmon.imp.ImportMonitor -sapinst" finished with return code 1. Output:
JVMJ9VM007E Command-line option unrecognized : -Xjvm:j9vm23"
Usage : java [-options] class...
As you can see, the sdk used is from IBM, and it works for all other saps we have here.
Is the wrong jdk? Which I should use if its wrong?
If is the right jdk, how could I get rid of this option and change it?

But I don't know where to download and how to install X Window System for Oracle Linux 5.
Can any folk provide a link to download X Window System and tutorial to install it for Oracle Linux 5 ?

You can address the problem in a number of different ways.
You can install X-windows from the installation DVD or setup access to the Oracle public software repository as described in http://public-yum.oracle.com. In which case, the command to install X-windows is: yum groupinstall "X Window System"
Or, you login remotely and and use SSH with X-forwarding, in which case the software on the server will use the X-Windows server on your client system. This is probably the preferred way since you do not have X-windows installed on the server. Cannot install oracle 9i database on windows XP

I am a beginner to oracle. I cannot install the oracle 9i database on my computer. I cancelled the installation as it appeared to be hang at 48%. I wanted to remove the folders created during this and install it fresh. But i cannot delete the folder oracle as it gives the warning that "some files like oci.dll cannot be deleted. Make sure the disk space is not full or the disk is write protected" How can I delete all these files and start the installation fresh. Even if i start the installation keeping the previous files as it is and ignoring some errors during installation finally the installation is unsuccessful. Please suggest me how to delete all these files and to start a fresh installation.

I had a similar problem - was your install from CDs or download?
I Downloaded 9i AND installed from the proprer Disk1, Disk2, Disk3 setup.
To extract the .zip downloads (BIG MISTAKE) I used XP's built in extraction - XPs .zip extraction does Not stop on errors - it whips right past them.
I attempted to re-extract from the .zips using Winzip - and it detected CRC errors in a couple files.
After re-downloading Disk2 (where the CRC errored files were) via dial-up... Install went fine.
If you did download, and used XP to extract - check your .zips with Winzip or a CRC supporting extraction program.
With the exception of it just doesn't work anyways - Apache crashes and restarts every 10 minutes or so with MS Error box 'Send report' boxes - annoying, but that's another bug...

Problems Installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0)

I have problems installing Designer 6.0 over Oracle 8i (Linux SUSE 8.0). When I try to create the repository the installation hang up. I try over Oracle 8i (WIndows 2000) and the problems remain.
Please any body can help?
Is it possible to install Designer 6i and generate forms 6.0 (I mean for using Developer 6.0 (NOT 6i))?

I had the same problem. Oracle gives as an answer that Designer 6.0 is not supported against 8.1.7. In the specified package a statement is issued which is a problem for 8.1.7. I changed that package and now it works fine.
Comment as below and replace with the delete statement, then it compiles fines.
I don't know if any problem can occur after that, but a Migration from a 1.3.2 repository to 6i works fine through this repository. Hope this helps.

Or is Xeon only for windows?

You can contact IBM for older Blade / xSeries/ Netfinity models not listed under the above URL as mentioned to confirm if supported for your planned OS install.
