  • Access Connections and Tools won't install properly

I have followed advice uninstalled the wireless driver, access connections, hotkey, power manager. . Reinstalled all ( latest versions) except access connection. Wireless connections work correctly and all hot keys function appropriately ( including Fn +F5 ). Then I let TVSU download Access connections. An icon is placed in the task tray. Clicking on it nothing happens. Also none of the hot keys work including the blue ThinkVantage key. Once I uninstall Access connection I am back in business with the wireless connection and the hot keys working. ( for all these installs I turned off the Microsoft virus scanner and the firewall).
Have similar problem with ThinkVantage tools in that I get the Icon in the task tray and then the program freezes. No problem in reinstalling  PC doctor5

    Hi dulverton,
I find lenovo drivers and software rather eccentric; since they need to be installed in a particular order to work properly.
First uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
Further this is the order in which the following drivers must be installed for each of them to function desirably:-
    1) Lenovo PM driver
    2) Lenovo System Interface Driver
    3) Hotkey driver
    4) Wireless driver software [reboot]
    5) Access Connections [reboot]
    Hope it helps.

  • Reinstall Access Connections Problem: X61s Vista32

I cannot get Access Connections (V5.02 and below) to function when reinstalled. Disk churns, takes forever to load and hangs if start is attempted. Checked required drivers all are ok.
Removed again but now wireless is off and refuses to come back on.
    HELP!

I just finished a lengthy fight with this very issue on my X61 Tablet.  I had tried all sorts of things to get it working.  After looking through the Access Connections documentation I decided to wipe out and reinstall everything it listed as being a prereq.  That seemed to do the trick.  It may not all be necessary but it worked for me.   Here is what I had to do to get it working again.
download the latest drivers for your wireless card, ethernet card, system interface driver, and power system. Also download a copy of access connections and power manager to be on the safe side.
Run the EXEs to extract the drivers to the c:\drivers directory but do not run any of the associated setups
    Reboot into safe mode
From Programs and Features uninstall the Power Manager, Power Management Driver, Access Connections (blow away your profiles as well), and the Lenovo System Interface driver as well as any Intel network drivers in that list.
From the device manager uninstall the network card and the wireless card.  my laptop listed a lot of goofy looking NICs in the device manger under safe mode, I uninstalled all of them as well.  the Thinkpad PM device under System Devices also showed as having an error in the device manger for me so I uninstalled it as well.
    Reboot
Open the device manger, update the drivers on the NIC and wireless card by pointing to the drivers you downloaded.  Verify that all other devices are installed and working properly.
I then ran system update and let it install Access Connections, Power Manager, and the System Interface Driver.  I'm sure you could manually install them from the packages downloaded in step one if you preferred.  Just make sure Access Connections is installed last.
It will prompt you to reboot.  After the reboot you should be all set.
One other side note, the Intel Proset install doesn't seem to play nicely with AC.  During one of the trials I did while trying to fix this I installed the full proset and that really started hanging things up.  Just my experience though.  YMMV.

Your problem may indeed be due to JAVA_HOME pointing to a JRE install vs. the full JDK install which is provided by the JES installer. My own test installation which I based in the installation guide on doesn't have JAVA_HOME set e.g.
    [root@server bin]# env | grep JAVA_HOME
    [root@melkor bin]#Try un-setting the JAVA_HOME environment setting (e.g. unset JAVA_HOME) and reattempt the install.

  • Access Connections fails to launch - "has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

I have an R61 with XP, SP3 installed.  The underlying functionality of Access Connections appears to be working properly (I have access to both Ethernet and wireless using profiles previously established), but when I attempt to launch Access Connections (from system tray icon, Programs, etc.) I get the error message,  "Access Connections has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience," and the option to send or not send an error report to Microsoft.  This makes it impossible to create or edit location profiles.  I first encountered this error several months ago with AC version 5.33 (might have also seen it under 5.3).  Subsequently I have upgraded to version 5.50 and have the same problem. Today I uninstalled AC, restared, reinstalled ver 5.5 (from a fresh download), and restarted.  I still encountering the problem.
Additional information:  Norton Internet Security (2010) is installed.  Microsoft and ThinkVantage patches are up to date.
Please recommend "next steps" in troubleshooting or a way to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

Hmmm... could be a corrupt profile.
    Try this.
    1.  Uninstall Access Connections (but don't delete the profiles)
    2. After the reboot, open REGEDIT.
    3. In the left pane, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then SOFTWARE, then Lenovo
    4. Still in the left pane, right click on Access Connection and choose export
    5. Assign an appropriate filename and click Save (I suggest somewhere on the Desktop).
    6. Right click on Access Connections again and choose delete.
    7. Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Thinkpad\ConnectUtilities directory.
    8. Delete any files in this directory.
    9. Reinstall Access Connections v5.50
    10. Try and create a profile.
If you still get an error trying to create a profile, then something else is broken.  Be sure you have .NET 3.5 SP1 (it may be under optional downloads in Windows Update).
If it works fine, then you have a bad profile.  Unfortunately, there isn;t an easy way to figure out which one other than try and error of delete profiles and trying one at a time.
    To restore your profiles.
    1. Unistall Access Connections. Reboot.
    2. Double click the saved .reg file on your Desktop and answer Yes to merge it into the registry.
    3. Install Access Connections. Reboot.

  • T42 Showing Incorrect Adapter Name in Access Connections

I am working on a T42 laptop and installed Access Connections 5.12.  I have gone through and did all the prerequisites prior to installation of Access Connections (wireless driver update, UltraNav Driver upgrade, Video Upgrade, BIOS upgrade, LAN driver update, etc).  I have created a profile for a wireless network that is in range and operational.  My problem is the adapter is showing incorrectly within Access Connections.  This wireless adapter is identified correctly in device manager as "11b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter".  But in Access Connections, it is showing as "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN".  I am needing this to identify the correct adapter to get Access Connections to work.  Any ideas?

    Hi jeremieolson,
Unless you need to use Access Connections to switch among multiple *wired* networks, I'd suggest simply un-installing Access Connections and using the built-in Windows tools for establishing your wireless connection. Windows will let you establish wireless profiles just like Access Connections does. AFAIK Access Connections doesn't add anything to the built-in Windows wireless networking, and in your case it's misbehaving, so...

  • Access Connections Application Tray Problem

I have brand new Lenovo series T61. Plenty of RAM and diskspace. New install. XP PRO SP2. When I change locations the first crash item I get is Access Connections Tray. Followed by several other tray items and then any open applications that require an internet connection. If I use ethernet I do not get any crashing. It is hard to reproduce at one location as it only happens when the laptop is moved between home and work. It happens at either location. It seems to be wireless related. Anyone else seeing this? Thanks, Kevin

    Hi,
This is a common situation, when there is only an upgrade of once component upgrade, like Access connection and the ret is not upgraded.
In this case I would advice to perform following steps:
    - uninstall AC
    * reboot the machine
    - install the latest version of following apps in following order (don't use TVSU)
        .NET 3.5 SP1
    * reboot
        Power management driver
        Power Manager
        System Interface driver
        Hotkey utility
Wifi driver (NOT from intel.com, but from lenovo.com)
    * reboot the machine
    - install Access connection 5.6x
    * reboot the machine
This will inicialize the Wifi driver components with the latest version of AC.
Let me know, your update on this one.
What is the system, that you are using? T60?....
    Cheers

  • Install cisco connect on multiple computers

    Hello all,
I've installed the cisco connect software on my laptop because I thougt it was only for the installation of the router. But now I found that you can also change settings with the software.
So I want to install the software on my desktop pc. But everytime I start up the software it wants to set up my router for the first use.
Isn't is possible to install the software on multiple computers?

I was interested in installing this utility on more than on PC at home so I called Cisco tech support. Let me tell you Cisco's customer service quality is not what it used to be. The rude representative who I ended up talking to said, I cannot install Cisco Connect on more than one PC. Then she kept telling me my free tech support 90 day period is over. Once I heard that, I forgot why I'd called them in the first place as it hasn't been even 30 days since I bought the router.
Anyways, next day I tried to chat with Cisco support. First person said I can then since I had lost my confidence, I chatted again and this time the second person I chatted with told me "YES you can install it on more than one PC". Honestly, I don't trust them and have to continue my research. I am very interested in the answer.

  • Hotkey - Access Connections dependency

This was already mentioned in another thread, I will re-state it explicitly. In som cases, you get a strange dependency: Fn-F5 doesn't fully works without Access Connections installed.
I'm setting up a new T410i with Intel 5150 WiFi/WiMAX adapter, putting 32-bit XP onto it. I couldnt' make Hotkey package control radios: only Bluetooth was available via Fn-F5, no WiFi, no WiMAX. All drivers are in place and are fresh new from Lenovo site, all devices are detected.  WiFi driver with Intel PROset, WiMAX driver, Bluetooth stack, power dirver, Lenovo System Interface driver, hotkey package, recent BIOS - nothing helps. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling packages several times in different sequence, all to no success. Finally, installing Access Connections make it work. This is unexpected and strange dependency, in past it always was possible to control radios via Fn-F5 without TVAC installed.

did you see the note under the hot keys download Notes
•(For Windows XP only) If this software is updated to version 3.02.0000 or higher, it is also required to update the following software.
◦Access Connections to version 5.50 or higher (for the Fn+F5 key function)
◦Power Manager to version 1.70 or higher (for the Fn+F3 key function)

  • Lenovo Access Connections Program Dead

Hi, and thanks in advance for any suggestions.
I'm running Vista Business on a T500.  I've always used the Lenovo Access Connections program to switch wifi locations.  Access Connections now doesn't appear to work.  The program opens normally but there is now (hadn't noticed it before) a location profile named "Windows Wireless Service," and when I click the "Find" button Access Connections doesn't find anything the list and graphic screen show no networks even if there are a dozen WiFi routers.
When I FnF5 the Wireless Radio window opens indicating that my Bluetooth is "on" and the 802.11 is "off."  If I click the "Power On" button nothing happens.
But my internet works normally and it's even switching WiFi locations automatically!  Somehow the machine has switched to using the Windows WiFi manager - the only thing I can think of that could have precipitated this is that I plugged into my work ethernet.  First time in about a year that I've done this and these problems with Access Connection seemed to start shortly after that (no indication at the time - Access Connections seemed to work).
If I go Control Panel > Network & Sharing > Connect to a Network I see a "find" window similar to the Access Connections list, but on this Windows program the routers are all "found."  I see in a few places that two network connection managers can't be running at the same time.  I tried turning off the service "WLAN AutoConfig" but that did not allow Access Connections to run.  Maybe I didn't shut off the right thing or maybe I didn't turn it off correctly.  Since Access Connections doesn't work I turned WLAN AutoConfig back on, but it would be nice to have Access Connections functioning.  I've looked everywhere and can't find an answer.  Any suggestions appreciated!

I have Access Connections working in Windows 7 and had it working in Vista before that. I use it to change between wireless connections as well.
If you want it working, try the following:
    1. Document your profiles (SSID, WEP or WPA, security key) in a small Notepad file.
    2. Download the latest copy (5.85 if I remember correctly).
    3. Uninstall Access Connections. When it asks, delete the profiles as part of the uninstall.
    4. Go to Windows Wireless Manager. Delete any left over profiles in it.
    5. Restart.
    6. Install Access Connections (use a wired connection first if you can).
    7. Now install the first wireless connection and ensure that it works.
    8. Assuming so, install the remaining wireless profiles.
    Good luck.

  • Access Connections 5.21 corrupt - The contents of this file cannot be unpacked..

Access Connections 5.21 as posted on the ww-307.ibm.com web site is bad... if you try to install you'll get an error dialog: "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked.  The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted.  Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again.".
I think I see why... the files are being truncated at about 16 megabyates, perhaps by the web server?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4ZLNJB is the page for the Windows XP version and it points to file 7xcx23ww.exe, which is supposed to be about 26 megabytes.  But when you download the file, it gets truncated to about 16 megabytes.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67283 is the page for the Windows Vista version and it points to file 7xcv23ww.exe which is suposed to be about 35 megabytes.  But when you download the file, it also gets truncated to about 16 megabytes.
The complete files are on ftp.software.ibm.com.  Connect with your favorite ftp client, log in as anonymous with your email address as the password... then cd /pc/pccbbs/mobiles, type binary (to ensure binary transfer) and hash (to get progress hash marks) and you can use the get command (i.e. get 7xcx23ww.exe or get 7xcv23ww.exe) to fetch the file you need.
The Windows XP version appears to extract OK now (haven't installed it yet though), and the Vista version appears to be the right length.
    Good luck,

    Hi Bill,
Hmmm.  I just tried it again couple of times, and still get truncated file 7xcx23ww.exe via http download.
I could imagine an issue with my browser (Firefox) on Windows, Netgear access point or cable modem ISP and I would be reluctant to point finger at the web server.  But as I verified yesterday, 2nd download attempt with wget and linux in a shell account (accessed via ssh on box hosted far away by an entirely different ISP) also gets the truncated file.
Hope this is helping someone - if I'm only one getting the corrupt files I'll delete the post... is anyone else seeing this?

ps: good news - Access Connections 5.21 seems much more stable than 5.20
