Cannot install apps via apple configurator 1.1

error message that apple configurator "can't install app", tooltip that "an unknown error message "install prohibited" was received from the device".
Computer is authorized, app is free (iwritewords free version), ipad is supervised.  Have tried multiple apps, clearing and restoring supervision, clearing and restoring apps from configurator.  same error everytime.
Trying to determine if it is viable to deploy iPads as childrens games stations in public library branches.

What a big huge hairy deal. I had the same problem and came here to find solutions. Based on what was said, this is what I tried and what worked for me...
Even though I had the setting to remove profiles that AC didn't install, I checked the profiles and the student restrictions profile that prevents installing apps was still on there. So I guess even though I'd unchecked it, AC didn't remove it. I consider that a bug. But I digress...
I manually removed every profile on the iPad directed excect the one that says it's supervised and then refreshed in AC. That worked. So I won't have to uncheck and recheck all apps (which I tried and didn't work for me) but I *WILL* have to manually remove that student restriction profile on every single device. Grrr!! I'm considering NOT putting that one back. The iTunes store is blocked in our district filter for students anyway. I can't imaging having to manually remove that profile on every device every time I want to add a new app or update. Insane.

i cannot install apps that are upgraded to ios4. im using iphone 2g 3.1.3 this makes me sad.. why does apple need to updates many apps when we cannot update an iphone 2g anymore..

I am having the exact same problem with trying to sync my iPad with my computer. To make a long story short, I had to reinstall Windows for my computer and therefore had to reinstall itunes.
I have done back ups in the past for my ipod touch and other ipods with no problems, but unfortunately I have never been able to back up my iPad. During a sync, the iPad would always disconnect from my computer and it would never finish. it would say the connection was lost, but nothing is wrong with the connection.
So now I have over 100 apps and thousands of pictures that I am afraid will be deleted if I run the sync in itunes. I have tried to transfer purchases and it goes through the list of apps, but nothing is ever transferred.
Any help would be appreciated. I am not interested in jailbreaking my iPad to solve this problem. There should be a fix for this and I want to upgrade to ios 4.3 as the original poster. Please help

  • Install App via Configuration Utitilty

    Hi All,
I've currently got an issue with trying to install an application using the iPhone Configuration Utility.  Currently the default profile used in our organisation restricts the installation of apps so that staff can not download from idevices.  However I was under the impression that if I connect the device to the iPhone Configuration Utility and Click Install Application this would work however this is not the case, we receive the following error message
"Could not install application on device. Error: An unknown error message 'InstallProhibited', was received from the device.
Is it possible to install apps using the configuration utility whilst still having the ability to remove the function of download from the device.
This is happening on both iPad 2 & iPhone 4, if I remove the profile it then works but when re-applying the poile this requires the mailbox to be re-sync.
    Regards,
    Bryant King

Could you please check if the devices are detected in your iTunes. If the devices are not detected in iTunes, then please update  iTunes to its latest version. Hopefully, this will solve your problem.

  • HT201092 EAS Email Profile via Apple Configurator

Does anyone knows if it's possible on an iOS 8 device to switch off the option "Encryption by default" and keep the end user's encryption cert available? When this is done via Apple Configurator the cert disappears and Per Message option cannot be used.

I had the exact same problem and was deleting the profile manually...huge time waste.  Called the Apple support with another problem and they told me when the iPads are synced the last thing they do is put the profiles onto the iPad.
If your profile you have loaded onto the iPad already doesn't allow downloading apps and such, the profile already being on the iPad won't let you install apps.
So the solution is to do a double sync.  UNCHECK the profile that is on each iPad and do a quick sync to delete the profile.  Then get all apps ready and such including imagines/restore backup, then check the profile you want back on the iPad and do another sync.
Worked for me and saved TONS of time.

  • Cannot install apps or remove policies w/ strict MDM policy already in place

I installed an MDM policy through Apple Configurator.  That policy temporarily has installing apps disabled.
When connecting an iPad to my computer and running Configurator, it does not allow me to override that profile to install apps, nor does it let me remove the profile, even though the profile was installed with the Configurator in the first place.
This is becoming a hassle specifically when a student forgets their passcode and the iPad disconnects from the WiFi.  Because I cannot install apps, and in turn remove profiles, I cannot wipe the passcode on the iPad without wiping the whole device.
Is there a way to update through configurator without installing apps?  I know I can deselect them, but I don't want to uninstall them due to the fact that students have lots of work saved in some of those apps.
    Any suggestions?

The GPO message turned out to be a complete red herring. Here's how I resolved it:
Go to the Add or Remove Programs section of Control Panel and remove the SQL Server Setup Support Files.
    Browse to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootsrap\Cache\SQLSupport\x86\1033 and run SqlSupport.msi
Run the Service Pack 2 installer again, the Setup Support Files should show status 'Upgraded' on the feature selection page. The rest of the installation should complete successfully.
    I hope this helps!

  • Cannot install apps directly; no error msgs; AppleID okay

Yesterday, in the middle of upgrading an app on my iOS 7.1.1, I tried to install another app and it prompted me to enter my AppleID password. From that time selecting any app from the App Store on my device would SILENTLY not do anything, ie. Click on FREE --> Click on INSTALL --> after a few moment the icon would revert to FREE, ie. No error messages, nothing, ziltch, nada !!
I then spent hours not finding any exact same problem on numerous forums, but found a similar problem, albeit with Apple actually bothering to give an error message, on this blog:
    [LINK#1]
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/102935/cant-install-apps-from-app-store -on-iphone-with-ios-7
What disgusted me all the way through my search was the IDIOTIC advice that Apple was consistently giving users with similar problems – they had them upgrading to the latest iOS (what a waste of time, as when you happily have a stable platform, you have to deal with a whole new set of things not working – theoretically could be okay, but Apple have consistently proven they ****-up every iOS release), and then fully resetting their device and wiping out all their settings (doesn’t seem to bother Apple to waste their customers time).
After successfully fixing the problem, you realise when reading the other blogs that Apple knows what the problem is, but due to their obsession with a sealed user-de-enabled environment, they don’t want to provide access to the tools (why not? You’d think by iOS 7 they could have by now integrated soft recovery tools safely in the OS), but would rather make users corrupt their devices by dancing them in circles rather than admit what the problem is, and that 3rd party tools can fix.
The solution? This linked blog indicates Apple get a corruption in their SQLite database that manages downloads. I installed macroplant.com’s iExplorer (I have no affiliation) and voila! renamed the offending file, and after a sluggish 30 minutes (where is was likely rebuilding the file), I could then install apps  again on my device. NOTE: no upgrading to later buggy iOS version, and no resetting my device and wiping out all my good work.

    SYMPTON:
Cannot install apps directly on Apple iPhone / iPad / iPod with no error messages.  User AppleID and other settings are correct and confirmed.
    RESOLUTION:
Used 3rd party tool (get it and install it now before they remove the free DEMO mode) – macroplant.com – “iExplorer”
    QUESTION:
If Apple insist on having a closed / sealed user environment, why (given how many iOS iterations they have gone through) haven’t they included the tools in the iOS to fix database corruptions without dancing users through timewasting upgrades and wiping out their settings, when this won’t fix the problem?

By god, it works!!!!!!!       Thanks Tim
Now this would not be a permanent solution - disabling zonealarm everytime I want to sync. What is the perrmanent solution?

  • Cannot install apps (IPhoto etc) after full OS reinstallation

    Hi All,
After full MacOS reinstallation (10.6.4) I cannot install apps (IPhoto, IMovie, etc) from DVD - "Unknown error" ("Pls contact soft producer") just after admin password during instalation process.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hello Carolyn,
I've found finally your hint very usefull.
Actuallu the full explanation is available here :
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3866345?start=0&tstart=0
But what you've said is a part of it.
So - all pending updates must be made (several restart and update check) - after that there is no more porblem with apps instalation.
    Thank you very much!
    Mark

Is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.
    And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

  • Just bought ATV. hope http proxy setting will be in UI instead of via apple configurator

i just bought apple TV and loaded latest firmware 5.2.
from the knowledge base, understand that http proxy can be setup via apple configurator after ver 5.1.
it can only be installed in MAC.
i am really hope your developer team could bring the said function out to user interface instead of going through all the hassle.
looking forward for your early reply

Thanks for the idea. I had already thought about using aliases but that wouldn't stop the Application folder showing a looooooooooong list o applications. As I said, having things clear is just a crazy habit of mine. Now that I know the trick I will just "survive" having FCS applications in their default location. I know I'm the only one here doing things differently. It's just that I have never had that problem with any other application and it was turning me crazy.
By the way, if anyone would like to use aliases, using an underscore as the first characters help having things on top of the list. For instance, the alias "_Multimedia" would appear before "Adobe".

You can turn off iTunes match from settings> music> iTunes match> off. However you may wish to simply hide the content which is not on your phone until you are in a location where you are able to download content that isn't. You can do this at settings> music> show all music> off.
