Cannot install Exchange 2013 on Server 2012 R2

I receive the following error when attempting to install Exchange Server 2013 on the same machine running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials:
"An unsupported operating system was detected. Exchange Server 2013 Client Access and Mailbox Server roles support Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later and Windows Server 2012"
SP1 for Exchange Server 2013 was released but I'm not sure how to integrate it or whether or not I even need to. Please let me know if there is a fix or workaround.
Thank you.

This is correct, Essentials is not supported to host Exchange 2013
You need to install Exchange on supported OS:

I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012.  The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin.  There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain.  I got past
the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away.  When I came back, I saw this:
Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();

    Hi Deepak,
From the error description, I would like to clarify the following things:
    1. Please ensure that IPv6 on the network adaptor is turned on.
    2. Please check if the account that you used to install Exchange has necessary permissions to perform the installation.
    3. Make sure that DNS is configured correctly.
    Hope my clarification is helpful.
If there are any problems, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,

  • Support for TLS 1.2 over Exchange 2013 on Server 2012?

    Greetings,
We're trying to roll out TLS 1.2 in our test environment and can't seem to get Exchange to work with the protocol.
We've been using this method to enable TLS 1.2 (and disable the other protocols - TLS1.0, SSL2.0, SSL3.0, PCT1.0): http://www.adminhorror.com/2011/10/enable-tls-11-and-tls-12-on-windows_1853.html
We originally tried using Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2, but then I ran across this article saying that it is not supported: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2709167/en-us
We've since tried to set it up with Exchange 2013 on Server 2012. Still no luck. The only time Exchange wants to work is when TLS1.0 is enabled.
I suspect that TLS1.1 and TLS 1.2 are also not supported on Exchange 2013, or that I'm changing the wrong registry keys, but I wanted to find confirmation. I've searched extensively and can't find any documentation leading me to believe one way or the other
    if it's supported.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    hi All,
Even i have tried enabling TLS 1.2 on Exchange 2013 from registry. i followed the below article.

When i check OWA in chrome and check the connection information it says "The connection uses TLS 1.2.
However when i run the below command to check for TLS 1.2 i get the following O/P.

  • Exchange 2013 Windows Server 2012 NLB and DAG on the same server

Hi all, I am installing Exchange 2013 infrastructure with two servers.
Both servers have the CAS and Mailbox roles.
For mounting on High Availability, will create a DAG.
Client Access I have no external Network Load Balancer.
I thought about installing the NLB servers in the DAG members, this could not be done before.
I do not know if in Windows Server 2012 and Exchange 2013
Can I install NLB on members of a DAG?
    regards
Microsoft Certified IT Professional Server Administrator

    Hi,
I’m afraid that WNLB and DAG cannot coexist in the same server. Because WNLB is incompatible with Windows failover clustering. If we're using an Exchange 2010 DAG and we want to use WNLB, we need to have the Client Access server role and the Mailbox server
    role running on separate servers.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:

  • Error installing Office 2013 on Server 2012 R2 RDS - Error 25004: the product key you entered cannot be used on this machine

    Hi there,
I really hope someone can help me as I am tearing my hair out trying to get this resolved!
I am working on a Server 2012 R2 server with RDS running. Before it was turned into a RDS server it had a copy of Office 2010 running as a trial to see would it work for the accounting package that is running for users via Remote Desktop. Trial worked ok
so it was converted into a RDS server. Now, as its a RDS it needs to run Office under a volume licence, which I have. However when trying to install I get the message: "Error 25004: the product key you entered cannot be used on this machine. this is most
likely due to previous Office 2013 trials being installed on the system."
In summary I have tried everything I can think of and find to remove all traces of the old Office from the machine but still this message persists. I have run the Fix It For Me uninstall from MS and it cannot find any Office installed. i have manually searched
through all of the Windows directories including Program Files and AppData and removed all traces of Office from there, I have searched the registry and removed all I can find from there.
Where or what file does the installer look at to see that a previous version was installed?
I cannot scrub this machine which I would have done long ago because there is another SQL Server based application running on it.
Really really appreciate anyone that can help me on this,
    Thanks

    Hi,
I have definitely heard your frustration, and I’ll try my best to help you.
Since Office 2010 installed on it before, you need to remove Office 2010 completely.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

  • Error installing Exchange 2010 on Server 2012 R2

I have the immense displeasure of trying to install Exchange 2010 (migrating from 2003) onto our new Server 2012 R2 server. I get to the install screen when I get this error immediately upon pressing the "Install" button:
    Organization Preparation

    Error:

Unfortunately there is NO help on the Microsoft site about this error so I have NO clue how to fix this or what file is missing. What do I do next? I'd like to get this installed and running over this weekend. Can anyone shed light on this problem? It's
2012 R2, just patched the 15 updates that it found BEFORE installing (or attempting I should say) Exchange 2010.

    Hi,
The support version of Operating system for Exchange 2010 is as follows
64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Standard with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 Enterprise with SP2
64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1
64-bit edition of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SP1
Windows Server 2008 Datacenter RTM or later
Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter RTM or later
Windows Server 2012 (Requires Exchange 2010 SP3 or later)
Officially Ms not announced to have Exchange 2010 in Windows Server 2012 R2. Check it out the service pack you are using in Exchange server 2010.
Try to download new iso image from the Microsoft Volume licensing page or from download site..may the image can be corrupted.

  • Some Outlook clients getting internal FQDN of newly installed Exchange 2013 CAS server as Outlook Anywhere Proxy address

    Hello Folks,
I have this problem and is making me crazy if anyone have any idea please shed some light on this:-
    1. Working Outlook 2010 and 2013 clients with webmail.xyz.com as Outlook Anywhere proxy address.
    2. Installed new Exchange 2013 server (server02)with CAS and Mailbox role, Exchange install wizard finished and server is rebooted.
    3. Server came up online started changing internal and external FQDN's of Virtual Directories and Outlook Anywhere to webmail.xyz.com
    4. As soon as Fqdn's changed some outlook clients create support request that Outlook suddenly white's out and after reopening it is giving error  cannot connect to exchange. upon checking Clients Exchange Proxy address is set to http://server02.xyz.com,
even though OA/OWA/ECP/OAB/EWS/Autodiscover/ActiveSync FQDN's Point to webmail.xyz.com, on all servers if i create new outlook profile for same user it picks up correct settings through autodiscover and connects fine, this is happening to about 20% of outlook
clients every time i am introducing new Exchange 2013 server in Organization. we have around 2000 users and planning on installing 4 exchange servers to distribute load and everytime changing outlook profile of close to 150-200 users is not possible.

  • Still cannot install the agent on Server 2012 R2 Core

    Hi
I'm using the latest build of the agent (that I could find - 2.0.8692).
This KB http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2997692/en-us says that 2.0.8689 and above should be supported on Windows Server 2012 R2 Core.
The installation works, but when I'm about to do the postsetup (Register Server Wizard) I get an unhandeld exception and cannot continue.
    The error reads:
Creating an instance of the COM Component with CLSID {DC1C5A9C-E88A-4DDE-A5A1-60F82A20AEF7} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80040111 ClassFactory cannot supply requested class (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040111 (CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE))

I am getting the same error, Hyper-V Server 2012R2
    Full error
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

  • Cannot uninstall Exchange 2013 from Server with REFS file system

EX2013 SP1 installed fine on the 2012 R2 server with REFS, but now I need to remove it and reinstall. When I go to uninstall it, I get an error that "the specified installation directory must be located on a NTFS file system". I have tried
via control panel and command line.
I could avoid the uninstall if I could replace the Enterprise Edition license key with a standard key. the "Change License Key" option only allows you to go from standard to enterprise.
Any advice on either issues? (uninstall from REFS or change enterprise key to standard key)
According to the below TechNet article REFS is supported for an install, but maybe not an uninstall

    Hi,
    1. I suggest romving previous Exchange server via ADSIEdit.
NOTE: It is better to try the steps with the assistance of a MS support. Do remember to backup the AD.
    2. Then reformat the file system to NTFS.
    3. Last, reinstall the new standard Exchange version.
    Thanks

  • Is it ok to install Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 Standard?

    Hello everyone,
I'd like to know if it is ok/safe to install Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012 Standard?
As I started doing some research and noticed a page where Microsoft states they don't recommend running Exchange on Server 2012 Standard, and recommend making 2 different servers one for Active Directory and another for Exchange.
On that page they also listed some features that wouldn't work in case of Exchange is running on Server 2012. And that it may put a larger data load if setup this way.
I am hoping someone knowledgeable can explain and tell me if it is safe to use such setup or if it is better to use something like SBS 2011 Standard instead, which has Exchange included?
Has anyone installed Exchange 2013 on Server 2012 Standard successfully and used it for more then several months without problems?
Also just to give an idea on my background, I've been in IT field fairly long but haven't really updated to newer versions much and mainly used SBS 2003 and 2008 only with a few clients so haven't used 2008 too much.
    Thanks in advance.

    Few things to note.
    There is
    NO SBS in 2012
All you need is a Std edition of Windows for Exchange 2013, as there is no difference in features between Std and Datacenter as far as Exchange is concerned.
For 10 users, you can have one box with both AD and Exchange. It is not MS recommeded, but it IS supported.

  • Installing Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2

Now that SP1 has been released, it is supported to run Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2
But since it is not yet possible to download Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed), is the following installation procedure supported:
    - Install Exchange 2013 (without SP1) on Windows Server 2012 R2
    - Install SP1 on top of Exchange 2013
If this is not supported, can someone tell me when the Exchange 2013 with integrated SP1 (slipstreamed) download will be released?

yes the SP1 is the full product. if you need step by step instruction to migrate to this new version you can get info here : http://buenoflex.com/install-exchange-2013-sp1/

    Any advice please !!

I can't answer your question but I had a similar issue when I was trying to move our mailbox database off the C: drive.  Our environment still has an Exchange 2007 server in it and when I was trying to move the database on the 2013 server, I would get
error messages saying the database does not exist.  It seemed like it was trying to move the database on the 2007 server from the similar error messages that I was getting.  To get around it, I deleted the database and created a new one on the drive
    where we wanted it.
I discovered this when I was configuring the Antispam settings.  I deleted our 2007 settings, added them to the 2013 shell, the settings appeared on our 2007 server.  The shell on 2013 was making changes to 2007.
I'm not sure if there is a "Get|Set or New" command that I/we should be using when this happens.  Or maybe my issues will be fixed if I just remove the Exchange 2007 server?  I'm not ready to do that yet because I can't configure the spam filtering
on 2013 yet with its shell not being able to make the changes that we need.
I don't know if your environment is in coexistence mode like mine.
Hopefully someone else out there has an answer or can tell us when/how the shell can make the appropriate changes to the 2013 server.  Does this happen after the 2007 server is removed?

  • How to to make Cluster between two server 2012 Datacenter with share storage and Hyper-V role then install Exchange 2013 on each server datacenter then make DAG between Exchange servers

    Dears,
I have IBM Flex server with built in storage,
HOW to to make Cluster between two  server 2012 Datacenter with share storage and Hyper-V role then install Exchange 2013 on each server datacenter then make DAG between Exchange servers?
If there any prerequisites of the Share storage types ?and any configuration guide to deploy Cluster between two Server 2012 datacenter ?

Microsoft Failover Clusters require shared storage.  If you wish to create a failover cluster with local storage, you need to use third party software to mirror the disks and present it to the hosts (siog.com, datacore.com, starwind.com).  If you
use third party software, you will need to follow their instructions for configuring the environment.
Questions on how to configure Exchange environments are better asked in an Exchange forum.
