Cannot install Flash Player plug-in on Windows Vista through Mozilla Firefox

I own a Windows Vista basic version laptop and am currently browsing with Mozilla Firefox. Everytime I try to install the missing plug-in for Adobe Flash Player (the lego image) on the Flash Player homepage it pops up as Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and I agree to the terms of use and click "Install" but then I am asked what I want to open the file with and I don't know what file it is associated with on my computer (My computer often has this problem with .exe files though) . If I close the "Open With" box the installation says failed and gives me an option to "manual install, but when I go to the Adobe Flash Player site (with all other browser windows closed of course), and click "agree and download" a small box with a loading green bar pops up titled "Installing Adobe Download Manager" and stays there for about 2 minutes but nothing ever happens when I am redirected to the "Thank You" page afterwards, no dialog box w/ run or save ever pops up. I have added "get.adobe.com" to my allowed installation add-ons and pop-ups are also allowed on this page but nothing happens. I appreciate any input for my problem...Thanks

Hi, thanks for the update of info. In that case I would download this Flash Player Installer for Internet Explorer to your
Desktop:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe  When this window opens, SAVE it to your Desktop.
Before Running, Close all browsers, disable any applications that use Flash(check system tray-area of clock), make sure
in Internet Explorer>Internet Options that Security is set to Medium for the Internet Zone.
Now your Anti=Virus/Firewall can block the Install of the Flash Player ActiveX Control that must be installed. You may want to Disable those also. Windows Firewall is ok, no need to Disable it.
After Installing, make sure to Reboot(restart) your computer. Then go to this test site:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html
Then using IE, go to Tools>Manage Add ons and check All add ons for Shockwave Flash Object...ActiveX Control..Flash10e.ocx(version 10.0.45.2) and make sure it is listed and Enabled.
If you have any questions or comments prior to beginning, just post back.
Thanks,
eidnolb

  • Cannot install Flash Player in Windows 8.1

Tried to install Flash Player in Windows 8.1 (32 bit).  Used all the instructions; i.e, disable saftey, enable scripting, etc. An install box says Update KB2934802 is already installed.  Searched computer for KB.....02 and Flash Player.  Says none exist.  Any suggestions?

Ever since Windows 8, Flash Player for Internet Explorer is written by Adobe ONLY. It's embedded by Microsoft, and you cannot:
    - Update it
    - Download it
    - Install it
    - Reinstall it
from here. You MUST update Flash Player ActiveX (for Internet Explorer) through Windows update. But... Using Windows 8.1 means you were forced to update to IE11, which has it's own problems and they can be summed up in three words...
    "User-Agent Strings"
That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser. User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video. Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome). Problem is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess thay've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE... Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
The REAL solution, like the original problem can also be summed up in three words:
    "Use another browser"
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Cannot install Flash Player for Firefox

I am running Windows XP HE with SP4.  IE and the latest version of Firefox are installed.
In both IE and Firefox, on attempting to install Flash Player with the standard link, I get an error message in a small window opens, title "getPlus+(R): Error," text "Unable to load a GUI," "OK" box.  I got around this by locating a standalone installation for IE, which downloaded an installation file to my computer.  However, this does not work in Firefox, even when obtaining access to that link from Firefox.  The file executes, but Flash Player still shows as not installed in Firefox.
I cannot find any separate standalone installer for Flash Player for Firefox.
This error message appears to be generated by the Adobe Installer, a getPlus product.  My thought was to uninstall the Adobe Installer, and try to start over.  However, the Adobe Installer shows up in the list of installed programs reached through Control Panel, BUT clicking the button to uninstall the program does nothing.  The program remains listed.  I cannot find a location for the Adobe Installer program on my disk drive.

As I said in my first message, Adobe DLM appears in the "Add/Remove Programs" dialogue box, but clicking the Remove button doesn't do anything.  The screen flickers for a couple of seconds, and Adobe DLM remains listed as an installed program.  There is no installed program listed under the description getPlus or NOS.
I found useful information at http://www.findmysoft.com/news/Patch-to-Fix-Critical-Adobe-Download-Manager-Vulnerability- Released/ .  Not to put too fine a point on it, information at various locations shows that the DLM has been a troublesome program.
IE did not list Adobe DLM, getPlus, or NOS as an addon.  Firefox listed "getPlusPlus for Adobe 16263" as a plugin. There was not other extension or plugin listed under Adobe DLM, getPlus, or NOS.
Based on the information at the link cited above, I tried the following. First, in Firefox, I disabled the getPlusPlus for Adobe 16263 plugin.  Removing it was not an option.  First, using services.msc, I disabled the getPlus Helper service.  Removing it was not an option.  Third, I deleted the directory c:\Program Files\NOS and its subtree.  I did not find anything relevant in the Application Data directories.
I then went to the link on the Adobe Web site to install Flash Player.  (I know, it's already installed, but I wanted to see if the DLM would now function.)  This time, the first thing that happened upon clicking the link to install it was that the site completed a new installation of DLM.  However, on proceeding to the installation of Flash Player itself, I got the same error message noted above, "A GUI could not be loaded."  So nothing changed.  Opening services.msc again, I noted that the getPlus Helper service had been reinstalled, and was no longer disabled.  The c:\Program Files\NOS directory had been recreated.  I tried manually starting the getPlus Helper service, and trying the installation again through the Adobe Web site.  Same result, no help.  And note that DLM is not being cleaned up automatically as part of this process, as is supposed to happen.
I'm thinking that a previous installation of DLM left behind some corrupted relic that is preventing it from running properly.  Very likely an incorrect registry entry.  But good luck finding that one without help.
NOS Micro has a link to "Contact Our Support Team" at http://www.nosltd.com/index.php/support .  Maybe as a last resort see if they would respond?  Note that I can't locate a way to get support from Adobe except by paying $39.95 per incident for telephone support.
    Thanks!

  • Cannot install flash player partially uninstalled

    Dear community members,
I successfully installed Flash Player back in April. It was working well until a couple of weeks ago, when video clips wouldn't work sometimes, but did with a bit of coaxing. The sites affected were - Facebook, Iview (TV), Youtube, and my bank's website. The same applied when playing games. The situation has now degraded to the extent that I cannot access any of the sites listed, and get video/voice.
I downloaded the instructions to uninstall, and downloaded the .exe file and ran it (no problems). However, the instructions said to delete files in the system32\Macromed\flash directory, but when I tried to I was told I didn't have the right privileges. I have administrator rights. How higher can one Go?
I tried to install again, only to be told that Flash Player is already installed. How do I fix Flash Player, when I cannot uninstall or install it? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Regards,
    Gazza

You have Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 installed already.

  • Cannot install Flash Player ActiveX plugin

It's very interesting that I am able to install Flash Player for Mozilla but not for IE (ActiveX). As I'm a web site designer, I need to surf my design at different browsers to ensure compatibility. I tried many of solutions (such as uninstaller, reset_fp10, ccleaner, registry cleaner) but still not work. I hope the attached install log file may help to find out what's wrong and the solution.
    Joe

Hello, I did not look at the install log. However, the first thing you want to do is go to add/remove and find out what of Adobe is listed there.
When Adobe Flash Player 10 is installed and is listed in Add/Remove is says: Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX.
List everything that is Adobe in Add/Remove
Next list each add on that is in Manage Add/Ons and whether it is enabled or disabled.
You need to know what you have before you do anything else.
(I use an 8 year old Dell, running XP3 with IE 6 and I have never used registry cleaners or anything of that nature. I keep Windows updated and never once has Microsoft told me I needed to use a registry cleaner because I've installed an update or an upgrade. I was told long ago to leave the registry alone and have done so. This is just my opinion. I am not a programmer and would never do anything with my computer that I have no knowledge of. )
Sometimes users go where angels fear to tread so to speak with their computers.
Let's see what you have installed and what add/ons you have and go from there.

  • Cannot install Flash Player without a password and I don't have one.

I cannot seem to install Flash Player without a password and I do not have one.  What to do?

The password that's being requested (required) is your user account password ON YOUR SYSTEM (not for Adobe). You CANNOT install without an administrator account, and you CANNOT set up an administrator account without a password.

  • Cannot install flash player due to internet explorer

I am running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10. I have disabled activeX filtering, made sure scripting was enabled, and temporarily shut off my antivirus software as instructed by Adobe website. None of these things have fixed my problem. I try to download the flash player and in the middle of downloading it says to close internet explorer. I close all open windows of IE and push continue. It keeps telling me to shut down internet explorer even though it is not open. Please help. Thanks!

  • After installing Flash player updates, Recently Closed Windows in History menu lost

    Hi Friends,
This is just an annoying problem, not really serious, I guess. Whenever I download and install Flash Player updates, History > Recently Closed Tabs, and History > Recently Closed Windows, are wiped out.
This is a problem for me, because when I log on to my computer every morning, I use History > Restore Previous Session, to get back all the tabs I had open the night before. And often also Recently closed Windows, if I had a 2nd and/or 3rd Ff window open last night. After I install Flash Player, the previous session becomes the Adobe update site. I think I can avoid losing the previous session, by making sure I open my previous session before I start the download and installation.
(I don't use fully automatic updates for Flash. I have the system alert me when it's ready, and then the next time I log on to the internet, the download popup window appears. I don't know why it waits until the next time I log on, instead of right after I click ok (and also ok on Spybot S&D and WinPatrol alerts). And I know you can't provide support for that part. But just to let you know all the relevant info :-) .)
So normally, if I've done something to lose my previous session (with all my usual tabs) (usually when I'm in a hurry and don't notice that I've opened Ff without restoring previous session) I can still get that session because it shows up in Recently Closed Windows.
But after I install the Flash update, Recently Closed Windows (and Recently closed Tabs) are both wiped out.
I'm hoping someone can sort this out, and I can just change some setting somewhere, to prevent this. Or maybe like the previous session, and remembering to open it, before I start the dl, it might just be a matter or altering my habits. I can't think of any habit changing that would work though. So that's why I'm asking all you wise Ff users :-) Hopefully it's not a bug?
Thank you very much for any insight, comments or suggestions :-D
    All best.

hello, this problem happens since the adobe installer triggers the opening of a browser window once the update is finished, which then overwrites the last session...
you could try if adding ''SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1'' to the adobe mms.cfg configuration file addresses that issue, as described here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/administration-configure-auto-update-notification.html

  • I cannot install flash player updates

I get the prompt that asks me to update flash.  I give it the ok and when it goes to install the updates, I get a script error.  It's been going on since last week.  I've gone directly to adobe's website to try and dowload that way without success.
    running XP SP3, Internet explorer,
adobes website says"You have version 11.6.602.171 installed"
flash player says "active x version 11.602.180, plugin version not installed"

Please try installing from the appropriate "stand alone" Windows installers located here:
