Cannot install Front Row update 1.3.1

Software update unloaded the installer for this update. I have tried to run it several times and each time receive an error message indicating that installation failed & I should try again.
Two questions:
1. How do I determine what version of Front Row is installed on my computer?
2. How can I install this update??

I was having trouble installing this update too. I finally went to the Apple downloads site and re-downloaded the update. I then tried installing it again and it worked! Try that. I don't know how to tell what version you have.

  • Problem Installing Front Row

Hi, when I try to install Front Row, I can open the installer, go through the agreement stuff and choose the location, but then it always says "Please try installing again." I really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help? Thank you so much!

Why do you need to install Front Row?
Front Row only comes with the new Intel macs preinstalled and there is no need to install it. You cannot install Front Row on a PowerPC machine, expect certain iMac G5's.
If you really need Front Row, wait for Leopard which has been said to include the "Complete Package" and get Front Row the legal way with it.

  • I just installed the Front Row update. When

I just installed the Front Row update. When I view photos through Front Row, the first album selection that comes up is "Shared Photos" - I set iphoto NOT to look for shared photos. I also set the slideshow NOT to play music. But every time I quit and then re-open iPhoto. those settings are not held - it says to look for shared photos and to play music...
How do I get the settings in iPhoto to stick?

    HappySwitcher,
    try the following:
Quit iPhoto if it is running.
In your user directory there is folder named "Library". Inside the Library Folder there is a folder called "Preferences". Inside this preference folder there is a file named "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" .
Do the following, click on the name of this file and change it to "com.apple.iPoto.plist" or anything else different than iPhoto.
Now launch iPhoto and adjust your settings.
See if they "stick", if so, you can trash the file whose name you changed. If not try running permissions and repeating the process.
Check back if it does not work.

  • How to install front row on mavericks ??

I'm just updated my mac to maverick, and how can i install front row ??

Yes, Front Row works great with Mavrick 10.9.2
Copy these files from a snow-leopard installation (e.g. your backup) to the appropriate folders in Mavrick 10.9.2:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BackRow.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPhotoAccess.framework
Confirm the copy process by typing in your password when required. You can then change the icon Apple Script  to Front Row's icon.
Open Apple Script Editor and type in:
    #launch Front Row
    tell application "/System/Library/CoreServices/Front Row.app"
      launch
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
      key code 53
    end tell

  • How to install Front Row on PB 15"...

    Hello everyone,
I have heard a little "trick" that allows you to install Front Row on PowerBook 15". Using Pacifist (www.versiontracker.com)to install the package FrontRow Updates 1.0.1...Have anyone tried this before?
I have tried but it doesn't work...
    Any suggestion?
    Cheers,
    James
P.S. It is supposed to work only by Key Combination like Apple-Escape or something like that but I did not see the key combination in Key&Mouse Preference for Front Row.

Hi, James - I have Front Row installed on my PB and it works perfectly. In fact, I know a couple of people who are using their mobile phones as remote controls.
The problem may be that you need to install Front Row Enabler after installing Front Row. Restart after each installation. The Front Row keyboard shortcut should appear at the bottom of the list in System Preferences:
    Other key commands are:
Arrow Keys - spin and move up and down
    Option+Up/Down - set volume
Enter or Spacebar - select menu, playlist, song, movie, etc.
Escape - go back to previous menu/screen
    Tab - return to desktop

  • I upgraded to OS X  Mavericks however I cannot access Front Row

    Hi,
I used to be able to call up the menu screen on our iMac using the remote, however I cannot do this any more.
My daughter upgraded our system to OS X Mavericks and now I cannot access Front Row.
The Red Chair icon is not in our applications list either
I tried to download an update to Front Row and the message reads that this update require Front Row so it can update.
I cannot find Front Row anywhere.
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

The $99 alternative to Front Row is the AppleTV box.  You connect it to an HDMI port on your TV and to the internet either wirelessly or wired.
You turn on Home Sharing on both iTunes and AppleTV and you will have access to all of the compatible media from your computer while iTunes is running
If you have an iPhone or iPad and depending upon the age of your iMac, it supports AirPlay, which will "move" the media you are watching from these devices to your TV through the AppleTV.  If your iMac is too old, look at Air Parrot.
In addition to access to the iTunes Store, AppleTV gives you many extras, such as subscription required services such as Netflix, HBOGO, PBS, Smithsonian, and many more that do not require a subscription (for example, when travelling I watch the NBC Nightly News as a free Podcast).

  • Front Row disappeared? Re-installing Front Row?

My Macbook came with Front Row installed, but I haven't used Front Row in a few months. Today, as I wanted to use it, it wasn't there anymore in my applications folder. When I searched for it in Spotlight, I found two files:
    1. FrontRow.pkg
    2. FrontRowUpdate1.3.pkg
Both are located in the Library\Receipts Folder.
When I tried to reinstall FrontRow using either of these files, the installer starts and leads me through the installation process. However, it doesn't complete the installation citing "errors".
Can anyone explain what might have happened? Is there a way to re-install FrontRow from the OSX CDs or to download it from the website? Thanks for any help.
    Macbook 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM, 120 GB HD

Yes, Front Row does not live in the Applications folder. Because it lives in the "System" folder, Spotlight won't find it. Spotlight specifically ignores the System folder.
The two files you found, in the "Receipts" folder are indications that Front Row and the Front Row 1.3 update have already been installed. (The Software Updated looks in there to see if you're up-to-date or not.) They are just "receipts" for the previous install, they're not full installer files.
If you had needed to, you can re-install Front Row only by running the "Install Bundled Software" utility on your Mac OS X install disk. There's a "customize" window where you can manually turn on or turn off the additional software, like Front Row, that was included with your Mac.

  • I cannot install the new update iOS 8.2 on my husban'd Iphone 4S

I cannot install the new update iOS 8.2 on my husban'd Iphone 4S.
    I hit "Install Now"
    "Agree" to the terms
And then it does nothing, but freezes up. I swipe away the page to try again with the same results over and over.
    Solutions I have tried:
I also have connected to iTunes, to download the new software, and no luck!
A system reboot by powering the phone off does not work. There is plenty of free space on his phone.
On the other hand, My Iphone 4S updated no problem doing exactly what it is suppose to do with updates.
So any help would be appreciated.

Try resetting the device: Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Slide to Unlock screen redisplays, hook the device up to iTunes, make sure that your husband's Apple/iTunes/iCloud ID is signed on to iTunes, then try the update again.

  • Still cannot get Front Row to work!!!!!!!!

I have tried holding Menu on the IR controller! I have tried holdin Apple + Esc! These do not work at all! Does any one have a solution?

Okay, calm down. Let us know a little bit more about your MacBook. Is it brand new? Have you had it for a little while? Did it ever work?
If typing Apple-esc does not invoke Front Row, then Front Row itself may be damaged or, if you reinstalled Mac OS X, it might not be installed. You might insert your Mac OS X install disk and double-click on the "Install Additional Applications Only" icon. You can customize this installer to install Front Row only. Does it work now?

  • Installing Front Row?

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to install front row on a mac mini, that has a powerPC G4 porcessor. thanks.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

In theory, you could, but you had to go through a process which involved (censored).
In practice, you should not try, because Apple Legal will make you disappear.
Apple's position appears to be that if your Mac didn't come with it, and you download it (or install it from iLife '06) and try to use it (with third-party remotes, etc.), you're a pirate and will be prosecuted as such. If you downloaded Front Row, get rid of it and any backups of it. NOW.

  • Does Front Row update playcount (and other attrbutes) in iTunes?

Excuse this question please which I could theoretically test myself, just don't have the resources at hand right now to try it out:
As I understand FR under Tiger uses iTunes to play music. So logically any smart playlists based on 'last played' or 'playcount' attributes will stay up to date?
However, since the new FR (Leopard) handles everything itself my question is, will it also update these iTunes attributes?
My previous quick test, seemed to suggest not. Pretty annoying cos I'm planning to use a MacMini as a mediacenter, connected to the TV and it seems to defeat the object of Front Row if I end up having to play music from iTunes in order to fully utilise my smart playlists.
    Cheers,
    Rich
PS And why do I have Front Row 1.0 installed on a brand new 10.5 iMac? I thought the Leopard version was FR 2.0 ?

...still don't umderstand why it's version 1.0 though!
The "Front Row" that is in your Applications folder may be "version 1.0" but it's really only a shortcut to the actual Front Row application that's inside your /System/Library/CoreServices/ folder. That's the application that is version 2 now and is actually displaying on your screen. I think Apple added this shortcut for people who don't have an Apple remote so it's easier to open Front Row.

  • Unable to properly install Front Row!!!

My brand new 17" Mac Book Pro is having problems installing Frontrow! It wasn't even preloaded as I thought it would be. Every time I try to install it an error message comes up1 I was just wondering if this is common and if there is something I should do to install it. Thank you
    TMC

I have just experienced the same problem with mine. I finally went to use it, and realized it wasn't even installed.
When I try to install it from the installer disk one of two things will happen. First it will say that the software was installed successfully and I need to reboot. Once I reboot, Front Row is nowhere to be found. All that I can find is the installation package in my Receipts folder.
If I try to install it again, the option is only for an upgrade, at which point it will tell me that an error occurred and I had to try again.
At no point in the process will Software Update tell me that I have any version of Front Row installed that may need updating either.
Prior to all this I did update to iTunes 7.0.1.
    Thanks,
    Clint

  • Front Row Update not updating?

I downloaded/installed latest update: 2.1.7. The problem is, when I check the version number in the Finder, FR shows up as 1.0! I've applied the update installer 3 times - still 1.0.
Info says- Created: Wednesday , Oct 10, 2007 Modified: Monday, Dec 15, 2008! So, did the update take or not???

Even though this is closed, this is for others who see this thread.
I like Douglas McLaughlin's explanation here: Re: Front Row 1.0 or 2.1.6?? which basically says the version in the Applications folder is just a Launcher for the real one in the System folder. It was needed so folks without a Remote could launch Front Row.
    Thanks Doug.
