Cannot install iLife '11

I just got my update disc, but when I put it in, it just sits there cranking for a minute or so and then ejects the DVD. I made sure my software was updated first, and did a shut-down ... but it still just ejects it.
I realize this is probably not the right forum, but I couldn't figure out the best forum to put it in.
Any ideas on why iLife '11 won't install?

a. A DVD/CD cleaning disk is one thing that might help
b. Using an external DVD-reader/burner might also help.
My Superdrive has problems with some DVDs from Apple too and I used an external one
instead. And it works.
c. Of course it can be a faulthy DVD - Apple Store should in such case re-place it.

Cannot install iLife 04

For reasons which I cannot remember, I have only installed iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie on my iMac when I first got it second-hand a few months ago. I now want to install iDVD and so I inserted the iLife 04 DVD. After a second or two, a window appears asking for permission for the installer to run a programme to determine whether installation is possible, or words to that effect. I click on the "continue" button and after a second or two another window appears which says that iLife cannot be installed because one of the following must be open: GarageBand, iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto or iDVD. The message implies that I should shut down these applications.
However, I never have any of these programmes open when trying to install, and I cannot get beyond this stage. I have repaired permisiions and run DiskWarrior but I still get the same message. Can anyone tell me how I can progress further?

For how long do I hold down the shift key?
If you press it just after the restart, until the computer says it's in safe mode. You'll need to restart again afterwards. If you press it when your account begins logging in, continue until the desktop's been visible for 5 seconds. No restart is needed.

Cannot install iLife '06

I bought iLife 06 this weekend, but when I put the DVD in to run the install program I get a blank page icon where the iLife 06 install icon should be in the DVD window. I get the correct icon for installing the iWork trial on the iWork DVD, but it bounces a couple of times and then returns to the desktop.
I am running 10.4.4 and have the lower slot memory defect. I have 512 megs memory in both slots. I don't know if that is causing the problem. I have rebuilt the desktop, repaired and verified permissions.
Any ideas?

If you can take the Lower slot memory out.
Run the Apple for a day or 2 and try to put heavy tasks on it for at least 1-2hours.
If anything will go wrong it will be in the 1-2hours.
If all is well do the same with the memory in both slots.
You should very quickly get an idea what is going on.
If you have to and can not get Apple to replace the Pbook then buy a bigger memory chip and place it in the slot that you know works.
You don't maybe have a friend or another Apple you can pop the disc into to see if it is not the disc or at apple store ask them to check if the CD is working or not.

Cannot install iLife '08

I've never had a problem installing anything before on my mac - but I brought home iLife '08 and can't install it - it gets to the end and says there was an error and I should try to install later. I have done that 3 times, deleted the old '06 apps in effort to do a clean install, no good. It does appear to install a working copy of iPhoto and iMovie, a non-functioning version of iDVD, and no copy of Garageband or iWeb.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Duh - thank you. I'm so used to my mac just working I don't even think about doing simple maintenance once in a while. Repaired permissions, installed perfectly, no sweat.

Error installing iLife 09 - "run preflight script for Registration"

Hi,
I am trying to install iLife 09 and am getting the error above (run preflight script for registration) and cant figure out how to fix it. I have run a permissions repair, rebooted and it just doesnt want to let me install. My Install.app is present in /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and have installed all the latest updates for 10.5
Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. I cannot instal Ilife on my new Imac.
I first tried to install all programs together via the installation guide. but it kept crashing without any reason.
after that I tried to install each program seperately via the customized installation guide but again the installation guide crashed.
for each program the following messages appeared:
run preflight script for iphoto, Imovie etc.
So what can I do about this. The warning message said I had to contact the manufacturer.

CANNOT OPEN OR EDIT PHOTOS SINCE INSTALLING iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5

I have recently installed iLIFE 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I cannot open or edit or use any of the photos in iPhoto. I get a white circle with an exclamation point in the center each time I try open open a photo.
I did back up iPhoto before installing the new software. Should I reinstall from the back up or is there another fix for this problem. Thank you in advance for the help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I believe that's an indication of a permissions issue. Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the option to repair permissions.
If that doesn't fix it download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name, long or short, in the owner section and the current group in the group section. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. Did you install the iDVD Extra Content on the iLife 09 disk when you installed iDVD?
Check in your HD/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder. In it will be the iDVD themes.
Make sure that folder is selected in iDVD's Advance preference pane.
Also run Disk Utiltiy to repair disk permissions.

Help, I cannot install iPhoto from iLife 04 cd, i always get a message that one of these programs are opened itune, idvd, iphoto...
Iphoto is not installed in my computer.
What should I do?

I had this same problem. There is probaby a iTunes help file or something like that running in the background. I think you can look in system profiler and find what is running and shut it down. Once you do this you should be able to load iPhoto for the iLife disk. I am not at my mac right now. I will check this evening when I get home and see where I found the file running and post a more detailed response.

Using OS X 10.8.4. Installed iLife 11 to get iDVD. iMovie ready to burn through iDVD. Attempted burn. iDVD says burn is complete. Burn lines are on DVD R. Same disk cannot be read and is considered blank by computer and DVD player. How do I burn properly?

Cannot play music since installing iLife 08 and OS 10.5

I have just installed iLife 08 and OS 10.5.1 and I now cannot list to my music on iTunes or update my iPod.I get a message indicating that the song could not be used as the original file could not be found.
I backed up iTunes before installing new software. Should I re-install from the backup or is there another fix for this problem? Thanks for the help.

When I click 'install bundle software' on my Mac Applications disk to install ilife, it says it cannot install

I am trying to install iLife onto my mac using the original application disk, but when I click install bundle package it says it is unable to install?

Unable to access iPhoto after installing iLife 06

I installed iLife 06. After doing so, my iPhoto folder cannot be accessed. I get a message saying "There is a problem accessing 1 or more files in iPhoto library folder. In the Finder, select iPhoto library folder. Choose File >Get Info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all enclosed items." I have done this, but I still can't get it to open. Any ideas?

Installing iLife '11 on MacBook Pro with no Disc Drive

I bought a 2nd hand late 2012 Macbook Pro with Retina Screen. I reinstalled from a Time Machine back up. This laptop should have come with iLife '11 but since it has no superdrive it didn't come on a DVD with the laptop, so how do I get iLife '11 without just buying it off the app store?

If it's second hand then it cannot come with OS X, iWork, or iLife because they are all attached to the Apple ID and password of the seller. If you want iLife you will have to purchase your own copy from the App Store or already own your own copy of iLife.
If the seller was smart enough to remove the computer from the list of registered devices at Apple, then you may be able to re-register it under your name which would enable you to install iLife without having to purchase it. If you have used iLife on your other computer, then you can re-download it freely for this computer.

Version 2.0.4 is iWeb 08 and direct publishing via ftp is not available in iWeb 08 and never has been. You have the option of publishing to MobileMe, but you can publish via ftp, but you need to select the option publish to a local folder instead and then upload using Cyberduck, which is a free and dedicated ftp client.
If you want the inbuilt ftp function, then you will need to upgrade your iLife package to either iLife 09 which contains iWeb 09 or iLife 11, which also contains iWeb 09. For this, you need to purchase both of these packages. Either go to Amazon and try and get a copy of iLife 09 more cheaply or purchase iLife 11 directly from the Apple store.
This is what you will need to do and iWeb 08, which is the version you have, never has had built in ftp so that option will never be available to you unless you upgrade which you will have to pay for. Upgraded and updates are different things. Updates are just your normal run of the mill software updates and address bug fixes etc., whereas you will need to pay for full upgrades to other packages such as from iLife 08 to iLife 09 or 11.

Trying to install ilife 04

everytime I try it keeps saying cannot install because iphoto, idvd, imovie, garage band, or itunes is running. Please quit applications...but the funny thing, THERE'S NOTHING RUNNING!!!!! HELP ME BEFORE I THROW THIS MACHINE OUT THE WINDOW!!!!

You need to quit the iTunes helper before you can install iLife 04.
