Cannot install iPod

This is perhaps a problem that has been answered many times before, so apologies if this is the case.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite laptop and have installed all software from the iPod CDROM. The laptop has a USB 2.0, power save mode on the ports has been disabled.
The iPod is a 60GB version.
When I connect the iPod, the PC freezes most times. Only when I disconnect the iPod can I use the PC again. And even then I have had to reinstall Windows as the system has become unstable.
The iPod charges, but the "Do Not Disconnect" message is the only message that appears - for two days now.
iPod does not appear in My Computer nor in iTunes. iPod Updater shows "No iPod connected". I have tried each and every work around in the Apple documentation. Two long nights trying each one.
Does anyone have any suggestions? At this rate, I will be returning it and asking for a refund.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you for the link.
After following the steps in the document, and having reconnected the iPod, the laptop was frozen for a good five minutes, but the Restore option in iPod Updater finally activated.......and......after......a......very.....long fifteen minutes of a frozen laptop, the Restore was complete!
It still has not appeared in the Source list on iTunes, but given how long it took for the Restore to start perhaps it will need more than the 15 minutes it has taken so far?
Thanks again for your help!

    Hi Paul. Two more things:
    - Click the Apple logo and run Software Update. Update everything. Restart.
    - If this still doesn't solve the problem, install Cocktail. Cocktail is a maintenance program for your Mac. You can install it here:
    http://www.macosxcocktail.com/
In Cocktail, run the"Pilot" option. After it is finished, restart.

  • Can anyone tell why I cannot install drivers for my IPOD Clasic

I have iTunes installed and I cannot install drivers for my IPOD Classic while using windows vista 64 bit?

Download the apps on your syncing computer and then sync to the iPod. Note that you can only sync apps for the one syncing computer you use with the iPod. You can manage music and videos among different computer.

Over the weekend I got a new iPod Video. Previously I had an iPod Photo. This new one plugged in just fine on my two computers at home but will not install to my work computer.
It will work as I can play and transfer files through iTunes, but everytime I plug it in I get USB errors:
"Windows cannot install this hardware - access is denied"
In the Device Manager it gives me a "Code 28"
Like I said, it does seem to work, I just want to make sure this isn't going to screw anything up when I plug in each day and get these errors.

iPods use the standard Windows USB mass storage drivers. it is possible for those to go walkabout on a PC. if that is what has happened to you, the techniques from this MarkJones post may be of some assistance:

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

  • I cannot install Itunes 10.1.1 on Windows 7 x64...

    Hi all!!
I bought my ipod touch two days ago. But I cannot install iTunes on my pc.
I downloaded Itunes for x64 pc and I ran it as admin. So it starts and it stops ends the installation process and saying me -in italian language- "Si sono verificati errori prima che iTunes potrebbe essere configurato. Il sistema non è stato modificato". In english language it means: "Troubles occurred before iTunes could be set up".
I tried to delete "Temp" folder in appdata/local.
    I'm a bit sad...

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

  • Cannot install iTunes on my Win7Pro PC for several months after a long time w/o problems. Uninstalled iTunes Bonjour with no improvement.  Help?

Since October 2011 I cannot update iTunes when I receive an Apple UD notice (Win7Pro PC).  I have also lost communication with my iPod Touch.  In all cases I have attempted to download the latest version of iTunes.  Yeasterday I uninstalled iTunes & Bonjour.  I still cannot install iTunes.  What can be done to allow iTunes to install?

If you want to do complete reinstall, please follow following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Cannot Install this Hardware - The system cannot find the file specified.

I got an 8G ipod touch last week. When I plug it into USB port on my PC, a Found New Hardware Wizard box pops up with "Cannot Install this Hardware", "There was a problem installing this hardware: Apple Mobile Device USB Driver", "An error occurred during the installation of the device", "The system cannot find the file specified.", "Click Finish to close the wizard.". If I go ahead and click finish, the device disappears and a couple of seconds later tries to install again and the box pops up again. However, if I leave the box alone, the ipod does actually appear in itunes and I can sync music to it, so all is not lost Any ideas though how to stop this error box popping up? The USBAAPL.SYS driver exists - I don't know what file it cannot find. Thanks.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
if you have a Leopard OSX DVD you can use it to install the BootCamp 2.0 drivers and later use the BC Update 2.1 for XP to further update the drivers.
If not (still running OSX Tiger) there are two possibilities:
use this direct download link for the latest ATI/AMD Mobility Driver package http://ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst/
or use the ModTool found here http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php in conjunction with the ATI/AMD Desktop Driver package.
You should also consider getting and installing the latest (June 2008) DirectX 9 package from Microsoft.
Hope it helps with your gaming problems.

  • Cannot install itunes 10.6, or quicktime 7, tried the system config utility, uninstalled itunes

I've uninstalled all security programs, followed the apple instructions using the system configuration utility, run windows update on my XP SP3 system, and I've uninstalled all apple programs including itunes and quicktime.  i cannot install the new itunes (10.6) or quicktime 7 - i keep getting an installer warning.  I find it exceedingly frustrating that the installer fails so consistently and that there's no clear set of instructions to resolve the problems.  i've found 5 different sets of instructions that include remove this, do that, and i've followed them, and probably cleaned up my PC lots, but still no apple software.  very irritating.  way to go apple for customer support - i got disconnected after a long wait once i finally got to talk to a human to try to find out why my serial number on my ipod doesn't register me to get to *you guessed it* SOFTWARE customer support.  as if that requires me to have the bleeding HARDWARE.

    Perfect, thanks.
iTunes error (!symbol) "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Cannot install "iTunes Movie Trailers App" on new iPad

    Hello all,
I just got the new iPad (3rd Gen.).
I am trying to install the iTunes Movie Trailer App (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/itunes-movie-trailers/id471966214?mt=8)
For some reason, after clicking the install icon, I get an error Pop-up screen that says "Action could not be completed".
I have installed plenty of other Apps with no issues at all.
Is this App only for U.S.  users (I am from Canada)?
I suspect it is something like this because my son also cannot install this App on his iPod touch.
    Any ideas?
    Christian

I am actually seing it in Canada.
Nevertheless, it should be able to say "Not available in your region" before I even get the possibility to download.
Like for example, if I go on the MTV website, I cannot view their videos, they give a proper message.
For sure they would be able to do the same in a more user-friendly message.
Another good example, go see this App for the BBC, first thing they say: Exclusive to the UK.
