Cannot install ITunes 6

Installer locks up when trying to install itunes 6
Running a G4 Imac, 800 MHz, 10.3.9.
Itunes kept locking up, so I removed the .pkg and any other related itunes info (not enough songs to worry about, so I trashed them too)
I have installed other things including the quicktime update, and had no pobs with the installer.
G4 Imac; G4 Desktop; G3 Ibook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

terribowen hello,
Go to the main boot System library and open the Receipts folder...
drag to the trash... iTunes4.pkg and check to see if any other 'iTunesX.pkg' files are there, if so, drag also to the trash but only the ones starting with 'iTunes' leave all others untouched and close the folder.
Check that your HD is in order with 'Disk Utility' ...
Run repair HD from original CD or DVD install disk...
insert disk and re-start holding down the 'c' key until you see the spinning gear.
At installer level do not continue...
Use top left menu and go 'Disk Uitility'
select your HD volume with Operating system on...
select 1st aid... select repair Hard Disk.
if errors are repaired run again until none are reported then verify your HD.
quit and return to the Finder
Check the pemissions are set correct on the Apple installed software...
use 'Disk Utility' from Applications > Utilities > select HD... select 1st aid. repair permissions... if repairs are needed run again until none are repaired... do not worry about messages 'we are using special permissions etc... they are OK Quit when finished.
Download iTunes 6.0.1 .... then install.... If you have any doubts about the integerity of your system you should run the Mac OS X Combo Update 10.3.9 ... download and install 'combo' 1st and then do the iTunes install.
Now do the HD repairs and permissions repairs again, as above, in the same order. Important
Your iTunes program should work OK now but there is one other piece which is optional but I recommend it as good thing to do and that is, Check and set correct permissions on all your music files.
Use BatChmod to set correct permissions on your home ~ Music folder
This compact GUI will perform the same tasks as a 'terminal command line'
drag the complete Music folder with libraries and iTunes Music folder inside to the BatChmod Icon and drop....
check path is correct.... tick if not already.... Owner=R W X, Group=R, Others=R,
then tick 'Apply ownership and privileges' tick 'Unlock" ... click Apply...
provide password... all done very quick...
Check you do not have any XBox / Digi setups running that do not have the latest drivers installed.
See how it all goes now after 1st dragging from the dock the iTunes Icon and replacing it with a new copy, by dragging the iTunes Icon from your Applications folder to the dock and start from there..
Any questions ask 1st and do later not the other way around... take care... TP

It will work with Windows 7 32 bit.  On a 64 bit you will have to install Windows XP Mode.  You can download it from the Microsoft Website.  The XP Mode will run Windows XP in 32 bit.  Microsoft has easy instructions on the download.  One download at a time.  Install the first download then the second download.  You will have to copy your icon from all program and paste to the desktop if you are going to use it often.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • I cannot install iTunes updates as of today.  Does anyone have any idea what changed with iTunes?

The question apparently needs to be typed in twice...  good work.  Here it is again:
I cannot install iTunes updates as of today.  Does anyone have any idea what changed with iTunes?

Is this a distinct issue from the 42404?
If so, are you getting an error message when you try to install iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

  • I cannot install itunes on windows 8.1

I cannot install itunes on my Toshiba Laptop with windows 8.1. I kept getting error 7. So i removed all of the itunes files from my computer, and did everything the install troubleshooting page suggested, but it still will not install, but now instead of error 7, I am getting error 2.

If the above steps haven't helped try installing:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for a 32-bit core program, similar to previous 64-bit releases of iTunes.
    Or roll back to:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
    as appropriate.

  • I cannot install iTunes on my computer, Winows 7. Error code -45075

I cannot install iTunes on my computer. Error code -45075

I used to have the same problem, and found a solution. It is very simple, ,just follow these steps below
Open the 'computer' file, found on start or might be on your desktop.
Click the C: drive, found on the left where theres a list of things such as favorites, desktop, etc
    Locate 'Users' and open it.
    Click your username
Go to AppData. (if its not there: on top, where theres 'File | Home | Share | View', click view, and then on the Show/Hide column, place a check by Hidden Items)
    Click 'Local'
    Locate Temp, and click it.
Highlight all the files and delete them. There might be some that you cant delete, but thats fine, just click 'skip'
Restart your computer, and it will be fixed!
    Hope I helped

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

A bit of repetition, mainly for the benefit of anyone else with the same issue. In your case the "for older video cards" version might be worth a try.
When cleaning folders you need to check both the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders, which you may well have done but didn't mention in the detail above.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if Apple Mobile Device Support won't install normally.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with third party software.
